My five-year old students are learning to read. Yesterday one of them pointed at a picture in a zoo book and said, "Look at this! It's a frickin' elephant!"
I took a deep breath, then asked, "What did you call it?"
"It's a frickin' elephant! It says so on the picture!"
And so it does...
" African Elephant "
Hooked on phonics! Ain't it wonderful?
Good Moaning~
ReplyDeleteZona~ that was cute....thanks for sending it~
ReplyDeleteBarry~ Good day, sir~ :D
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteTina you got first....again.
That was cute Zona.
I just got up and I am listening to african liar get grilled by Parliament.
Good mornings ladies!!
ReplyDeletecute Z....
Nothing I enjoy in the morning like an African liar getting grilled....good times...ahhh...
Lynn darling...whose feet are in your avatar?
Good Morning Tina, Lynn and Michael. Wishing you a terrific Tuesday. Be back later when I have settled the cleaning lady.
ReplyDeleteZona - As a former grade one teacher I can tell you that is why we stopped relying entirely on phonics when teaching kids to read. It isn't very reliable. There are many other techniques to add to the process.
Good Morning!
ReplyDeleteWell surprise, surprise..I didn't know you were going to use this TINA! It's just a lil' bit of a joke..but it made me laugh!
TINA: Gorgeous..as always.. :)
LYNN: I haven't seen the news yet..I'll have to check out FB to see what you're referring to..
MICHAEL: I thought the blog you sent in yesterday was funny! I always thought Donna Fargo's song was kind-of a parody..even when it wasn't..kwim? Did you get your commission on the corn song?
TINKA: Are you having 'TINK' painted on the side of your Hog? I think you should!! Either that or 'TCB'..or maybe both!! :)
Time to wake up Mr Z..Have a good day everyone!
this wan't a phonics issue....
ReplyDeleteOne day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the part of the story where Chicken Little tried to warn the farmer. She read, ".... and so Chicken Little went up to the farmer and said, 'The sky is falling, the sky is falling!' ".
The teacher paused then asked the class, "And what do you think that farmer said?".
One little girl raised her hand and said, "Holy Shit! A talking chicken!!!"
Wow these people are slick but I hear the bus engine warming up and the tires look new! Watch out those just below Rupert and his Son, I can hear the thunk thunk when they throw you under.
ReplyDeleteZona I am referring to Rupert Murdoch and his cronies.
MeeMee those are my feet no cracks about pedicures! I was enjoying the poor mans version at the beach.
Video of Giant Alaskan Sea Serpent to Be Broadcast
ReplyDeleteNothing like a good sea monster story to liven up July ratings:
Some are claiming that the animal is a "Cadborosaurus," a type of reptile or lizard that got its name from Cadboro Bay, in British Columbia. They say that what's in the video is a sea serpent that dwells in the North Pacific and possibly other regions.
Accounts generally describe it as having a long neck, a horse-like head, large eyes, and back bumps that stick out of the water.
The footage, shot by Alaskan fishermen in 2009, will make its public debut on "Hillstranded," a new Discovery Channel special that will air Tuesday evening at 10 p.m. E/P.
Sightings of "Cadborosaurus" have been reported for ages. In 1937, a supposed body of the animal was found in the stomach of a whale captured by the Naden Harbour whaling station in the Queen Charlotte Islands, a British Columbia archipelago.
Tinka!!
Have you ever heard of this thing??
Somebody tried to hit Murdoch in the face with a pie and Ruperts child bride bitch slapped him....lol!
ReplyDeleteoh certainly no cracks Lynn D!! I was just wondering what happened to your big toe on the right foot....
ReplyDeleteIts prolly just the photo...nobody actually has a toe like that...
well..except Tinas husband....
BARRY!!??
ReplyDeletewell that rips the sheet you f**kin' SEA HAG!!!
lq~
ReplyDeleteGood morning, HOoters!
ReplyDeleteTina You look lovely as always, nothing like a sea hag, imho.
LynnD It's going to get mighty crowded under that bus, I think.
ReplyDeleteMichael The sea serpent is sounding something like the Loch Ness Monster.......or a drawing in a children's book...ijs.
ReplyDeleteZona The joke was very cute. That was a great idea for Tink to have TCB on the side of her hog. So perfect in several ways. :)
ReplyDeleteTinka I second the motion to have TCB put on the side of your hog. As for reading issues, both my grandchildren have had trouble getting the hang of it. I don't think the methods they use these days are working out too well, imho.
ReplyDeleteHATEFUL! UR ALL JUST HATEFUL today!!
ReplyDeleteI DO NOT IN ANY WAY FAVOR BARRY GLIBB!! AND GIVE THE DAMN SERPENT A CHANCE ALREADY!! HE HASN"T EVEN BEEN ON TV YET!!! GA!!
J/LIN: With a lightning bolt! :)
ReplyDeleteTINKA: That's 2 votes for TCB!! :)
LYNN: Thanks..I was cornfused..there are so many scandals going on..I can't keep up anymore.. ;D
MICHAEL: I wonder if Caddy is related to Ogo Pogo? ;)
I vote for TCB with a bolt! And since I called it a hog first AND suggested the leather I guess TCB with a bolt it is! And no one for get it! I am TIRED of being treated like a dirty kleenex around here!
ReplyDeleteZona....ogopogo lives in Okanagan Lake....this other thing is in the sea! I don't know how Tinka sleeps at night!!
Well my head hurts...prolly a brain tumor (fast growing) and when I die and don't leave any of you ANYTHING...who'll be sorry then!!??
I must lie down...maybe I will get some attention in a dream.....
I HATE YOU!!
ReplyDeletelove, Michael...
Well I just got back from my first solo ride in my Hog. It was great fun.
ReplyDeleteMichael - I don't have the leather outfit yet but I will get it soon. (Yes it was all your idea). Zona, TCB sounds good to me. (Just_Lin likes the idea too). I am looking into that. I would love to take my dogs but I think it would be too dangerous. Maybe when I get better at it but so far I must take Jack along if the "fur babies" are going to get their walk. They miss it so.

ReplyDeleteMichael - Don't you dare tempt the gods with teasing about dying. It took me all day yesterday to get over turning on Facebook and finding out one of my favourite Farmtown neighbours from Australia had died in the night. We need you on earth Michael. Who else would come up with the idea of calling my scooter a Hog. It made the whole idea more palatable. I don't want to feel like an invalid when I am out cruising.
ReplyDeleteMichael - There have been sightings of Caddy as long as I can remember and I have lived here since I was 5. People who live by the sea swear they see him every once in a while. There have been pictures, most of which have been proven fake but some the experts disagree on. Cadboro Bay was named after him as that is where he is seen the most. I must see that show on him. Remind me will you when the time gets closer please?
ReplyDeleteZona - There is a competition between Kelowna's Ogo Pogo and our Caddy as to which is the most famous and the most real. Of course you know my opinion.
Lynn - Please forgive me if I do not comment on your Murdoch posts. I haven't a clue what it is all about.
ReplyDeleteJust_Lin - All teaching methods do not work with all students. The method must be geared to the child not the other way around. There are many methods, some of which I think are useless. The main one is "whole language" where you don't teach the child how to read by using phonics and flash cards. Instead you surround them with great literature, read to them a lot and they learn by osmosis. I think that has been proven to be "garbage" but still some schools try it. Get your grandchldren some old fashioned work books and see if that helps. It sometimes does. Good luck.
ReplyDelete30 Must check my farms.
ReplyDeleteZona, very cute :) I could see that happening in a classroom.
ReplyDeleteTinka, I so agree with you that you cannot totally rely on phonics to learn how to read.
Have a great night everyone!!
DI: Mr Z decided to go through more old albums to either donate or trade in..and guess which one he found?? VICKI CARR!!!! It's still here!! I was rolling on the floor..omg..LOL! Should I try my dance? ;D
ReplyDeleteTINKA: I just love the name Ogo Pogo! :D
ITEACH: I remember my nieces and nephews mispronouncing things and I would laugh because it was so cute..my sil would give me 'the look'..so I would laugh louder.. ;D
Howdy Everyone....
ReplyDeleteSO....ZONA is doing her dance I told you all about on Sunday. Let's all stop and get a visual.....MICHAEL you sing too as I think she is one of your favorites.....(if rumor has it true).
Just took my grandkids home after a couple of days. I gave them a choice of anything to do and they picked mani/pedi......true girls!!
My husband is ready to come home I think but won't be here until Monday night.
I went to finally see Bridesmaids after taking the kids home and it is really a good funny movie. TINA, I think you saw it, right?
I see to keep busy and now I think I will go and watch some TV for the evening. Wanted to be sure and say hello to each of you....so.....hello.
Where are JODI AND SHIRLEY?
Hi Dianne....!!
ReplyDeleteI won't sing. I don't do free shows.
Hell shes already gone too.... :(
