  2. Steve Martin played here last night with his band...

    The Steep Canyon Rangers..
at Rudder Auditorium... Stevie started playing with the band during a broadcast of
A Prairie Home Companion...which will be here Sept. 8 at Rudder...

I didn't go...well I am not allowed at Rudder anymore since that "basic instinct" moment when I was in the front row at a performance of "The Three Tenors"...

Luciano Pavarotti spit out his dentures...then Jose and Placido just froze....it was quite the scandal...

Bob Hope? The blog is about Bob Hope? Not Steve Martin and his banjo?

    Well excuuuuuuuse meeeeee!!!

  3. factoids:

In June of 2000, he was hospitalized for gastrointestinal bleeding. The next year, in August of 2001, he was hospitalized for pneumonia. He was almost completely blind, and he had great difficulty walking. Due to the many eye operations he had over the years, they were unable to form tears, so they were constantly red.

On many nights he couldn’t sleep, so he had his driver take him to a nearby Bob’s Big Boy, where he would have coffee and talk with other customers. Other than a few public appearances, he spent most of his time at home watching game shows like Jeopardy, or Wheel of Fortune.

On May 29, 2003 he celebrated his one hundredth birthday with family and friends. Said his granddaughter Miranda, “Despite his deteriorating health, he still expressed his good sense of humor, and was able to say he was still with us”. But not for long….

Bob and Do Do Hope were living his last years in their Toluca Lake home..

On Sunday, July 27, 2003, Bob died of pneumonia, with family present. According to his daughter Linda, "Dad had an amazing send-off. All of the family was together with him and he died very peacefully last night, just about 9:30. I don't think you could have asked for a more peaceful, beautiful death. And I think all the good vibes that he put out during his lifetime came back to take him up. He left us with a smile on his face and no last words. We all had our little time with him and time to say good-bye. And he just gave us each a kiss, and that was it.”

On May 27, 2009, Dolores Hope became a centenarian herself, and her birthday was featured on The Today Show, with her son saying in an ABC interview, "I think of her as love." On May 29, 2010, Mrs. Hope was quoted as saying to local press, of her 101st birthday, "I’m still recovering from my 100th birthday bash, so I’m going to keep this year’s celebration much quieter.” On May 27, 2011, she celebrated her 102nd birthday at her California residence.

  16. Tina - Thanks for the blog. I remember watching the oscars when he made the "Passover" joke.

SacBarb - Our family always watched the Christmas specials he made each year with the troops. I think Delores said one time that they hadn't spent Christmas in their own home for 30 years. The best part of the shows was the singing of "Silent Night" at the end.

Michael - Thanks for the information. I didn't know Mrs. Hope was 102. They must have been married a lot of years.

We just got back from our nightly walk. I get some fresh air but only Jack and the fur-babies get any excercise. Actually by the time we are half way home Tango is sitting in the basket and Tia is sitting on the floor board of the scooter. Tango has an excuse because her heart isn't as good as it should be but Tia has no excuse except that she thinks it's more fun than walking.

  17. Hi Guys!!

TINA: I love Bob Hope's movies..they always make me laugh..I can't remember watching his specials..my parents always did though. My mom worked with a woman who was engaged to him in Cleveland..her parents would not let her marry him..they said he would never amount to anything..HA!

WANDA: I see MICHAEL let you use his BAMM today! I really like Steve Martin..saw him in concert years ago..such a wild a crazy guy! ;D

TINA: How are you feeling? I hope you're being pampered!

TINKA: You have to get Jack to take a pic of you on your scooter with Tango in the basket and Tia on the floorboard..I bet you look so cute! :)

LYNN: I hope your back feels better soon!

MICHAEL: Ok..the freezin' the head thing is just strange..ick..

Waving a wing at BEBBI, BARB, SHIRLEY and ITEACH!
