The Sad World Of The Misunderstood House Spider

by Michael

If there’s one arthropod with an unfortunately bad rap with the human world, it’s the spider. Generally reclusive and non-threatening to people, spiders eat all the creatures that annoy humans (mosquitoes, flies, roaches) while occupying the empty crevices of human shelter. And yet their very presence makes the average person go after these benevolent creatures with a fury. And so is the sad world of the Misunderstood Spider:

  2. That's what wrong with this world today, too many spiders think they can take advantage of people. Well I'm sick of it! No more! You just hang around making a mess with your damn webs. "I'll eat all you bugs for you." Yeah right, how come I had ants? You didn't eat them! Now get out and STAY OUT!!!!

  3. Good Morning Shirley - I have a feeling you don't like spiders? Am I right?

Michael - I enjoyed your pictures. It made me think of the book "Charlotte's Web". I could never crush a spider again after I read that book a hundred times over the years to my grade ones. We see few spiders in the house here and I don't know why. There are two types of poisonous spiders here "Black Widow spiders" and "Wolf spiders" but I have never seen them. If my grandchildren see a spider in the house they capture it and release it outside so I guess they were affected by "Charlotte's Web" too.

  4. Well we are half way between Christmas and New Year's, a kind of reprieve from the excitement. It will be a quiet day. Maybe I will make a list of New Year's resolutions today.

Jack is feeling sad today. His brother's wife died yesterday morning at the age of 60. She suffered so much this past year from cancer, I think she is happy to be released from earth. Of course her children and grandchlldren are grieving. We must find a cure for cancer. I wonder if it will be in our life time.

  5. Good Morning!

MICHAEL: Hmmm..there's a song..Boris the Spider..and it's chorus is 'creepy crawly creepy crawly'..sorry but I don't like creepy crawlies! I don't go out of my way to squish them..but still..ick! I did like reading that spiders eat roaches..but with the big ol' roaches we have here..I don't even want to think about how big the spider that eats them has to be...double ICK!!

SHIRLEY: I think you got that spider with your perfect Splat! :D

TINKA: I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Jack's sister in law. I sure wish they'd cure that horrible disease too..

Had a busy day yesterday..and the day before..and the day before..oh and the day before..lol..I'm not used to that..pooped me out..but it was fun!! :D

  6. Hi Tinka ..Zona...and Shirley...

Shirley...the ants didn't get in the spiders web...

Tinka...its true...Charlotte was a good spider...I don't bother them unless they are huge and in the house. And that has happened maybe twice in my life! We have Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders that are poisonous. I have seen a black widow but not a brown recluse....and I was supposedly bitten by a Brown Recluse once. I don't think the doctor knew what he was talking about...

Zona....if a BIG roach gets in a small spiders web...well thats all it takes and that small spider has a feast. You know when you smash one of those big roaches (waterbugs)....that white cream stuff that squishes out? I think thats like mayonnaise and I think spiders like mayo...because they suck it all out til the roach is just a shell of its former self.

I watch them outside a lot and they are fascinating. They can make these incredible huge webs so fast and then wait until something flies into it...then they scamper hurriedly to their victim and karate chop them or something...then they run back to their spot and wait for the next careless victim....
Best viewing is at night. Where I sit on the deck is illuminated by a light in the yard so I don't miss a move!
Sometimes I grab one of the web securing strands and pull in lose...you know...if its a slow night....and while I know this is frustrating for the spider..I get to watch he/she fix it....

I lol when I saw the picture with the caption..."Did you just spray me with furniture polish bitch!?"

Lisa was horrified of spiders and one of the times I had a huge one in the house was when Lisa was living with me...and from that day forward she kept a can of hairspray behind the cushions on the sofa where she sat....lol

I asked her..."so if a spider is present ur going to do his hair?"
