~ The Art of Su Blackwell ~

by Tina~in_ut

Su Blackwell is an artist who works predominantly within the realm of paper. Armed with a scalpel, she transforms the pages of old books into three dimensional works of art. She finds her books at used book stores, reads them for inspiration, and then creates these amazing dioramas set in either wood or glass boxes. I hope you enjoy them as I have.

The Baron in the Trees
Tiny Details

The Orient Express

Out of Narnia

The Woodcutter's Hut
Little Red Riding Hood
Alice in Wonderland

  1. oh yeah...Su Blackwell!! I personally like this work...but there are a lot of complaints that it makes the books damn near impossible to read...

  2. Good Morning Michael - What is your avatar today?

Tina - Those are fantastic. I found them to be amazing. I wonder why some people get all the talent.

I have the sprinkler man coming any minute to set up the sprinkler system for the warm weather that we still don't have yet. Must have breakfast. Be back later.

  5. Morning Glories!

Tina those are fabulous! I have really realized lately that art is composed of so many things and the best art is usually outside the box.

    Thank you for sharing!

Michael - Will you take me for a ride in your new angelic car? It's my kind of car too.

  7. Those are amazing. The detail is unbelievable. I agree with Tinka, all the talent goes to a select few and I am not in that group.

    Michael, nice ride.

Lynn, So true. How is your painting coming along?

Greetings and happy day to all the Owls.

  9. SacBarb...hi...

Where are you in your recovery? Is it going normally or do you feel you are getting back to normal quickly? Did your doctor give you a time frame?

Like..are you up to going out for lunch or shopping...things like that?

  10. Hi Sac-Barb - I just woke from my nap and see you have landed in the nest. How are you doing now? Great I hope.

Michael - You will have no trouble coming up with that amount of money. I know that. I have the right crystal picnic set in mind. I will order it.

I taped America Idol last night so I am going to snuggle down and watch that. I am retired, why can't I have a lazy day?

  11. Michael & Tinka, I am doing very well in my recovery. Thanks for asking. I had a doctor appointment yesterday and he has given me permission to drive. Up to now, I have been relegated to the back seat and have had to use a pillow between me and the seat belt because of the air bags, in case of an accident. Chad told him that he was tired of doing the 'driving Miss Daisey' thing. So I will be driving myself to church Saturday night. Yay!

  12. thats great Barb!

Well I find that kind of stressful...lol...to me!

Can you get a police escort the first couple of times...for my peace of mind?

  13. Barb - I am happy to hear of your increasing recovery. I know what it's like to feel like "Driving Miss Daisy". Before my daughter got a car with "smart, all the way around air bags I sat in the back seat when I was in her car. It was on the advice of my doctor who said with my height and osteo it would be dangerous to be in the front. When air bags first came out little children would sit in the front seat. It's a tragedy that some children died before they decided babies and little children should never be in the front.

  14. TINA...those are incredible. How does someone even think to do that. Amazing.

From yesterday...so sorry that those stupid people picked your car for thier stupidness. Thankfully the daughter didn't go ahead and walk into that.

When I lived in L.A some friends and I decided to take a long weekend and go to SD and Tijuanna. I drove and when we decided to go to TJ in picked a closed lot...$12 to park in as I thought it would be safer. Yeah right. We come back from TJ and I ask my friends where the car was. They replied "right there, with the back window broken" SOB...someone broke out my back driver's side window and stole my awesome leather jacket. That ruined the weekend as we had to head back and get the window fixed. Oh, and I MADE the parking attendent give me back my $12!!
