I don't usually read a book and then see the movie. When our family went to see the very first Harry Potter movie, my husband and oldest, who read the books, spent the entire time telling each other what was missing from the movie. I didn't think it was worth it to be frustrated, so I never read them and just watched each movie with my kids and I was happy because I didn't know better.
Well everyone has been telling me FOR-EVER to read the Hunger Games trilogy. When I say FOR-EVER.....I mean F O R E V E R!!!!~ So I finally did. My friend from work lent me the books and my goal was to finish the first one by the time we got to Boston so hubby and I could go see the movie while on vacation. Well then hubby started reading them. As soon as he was done with the first one, which we both LOVED by the way, we went on our merry way to see the film. HUGE mistake! The whole time I was reading the book, I would imagine how they would depict each scene on the big screen. Not even close. They left out so many characters. I don't even remember them using Effie's name in the film. They didn't develop the relationships. It was a HUGE disappointment! Did I say HUGE? I really meant H U G E ! ! ! ! !~ The only character that seemed the same to me was Lenny Kravitz' character of Cinna. Loved him! Both the hubby and I spent the entire walk back to our hotel talking about how awful it was and what they could have done differently.
Why didn't any of you remind me to stay away from the film if I read the book?!!! Or to stay away from the book if I planned to see the film? Does that ever happen to you? Have you ever been disappointed with a movie after reading a book?
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteTINA...sounds like you are having a fabulous vacation.
I generally will read a book after the movie...and I'm usually not thrilled.
So, what is on everyone's agenda for today?
ReplyDeleteGood Moaning, Mo~! My agenda....try and figure out how to git outta Boston!!!!~ I'm thinking the shuttle to La Guardia and then transfer to JFK.....ugh!!!~
ReplyDeleteAnd I finished the third book last night and cried!!!~ Those were dang good books~ DUMB movie~
Good morning Tina and Maureen. It's a beautiful warm sunny day today. I hope it's as nice where you are.
ReplyDeleteTina - Very interesting blog. I have never heard of those books or the movie. I must have been living under a rock lately. I can't even think of any movie-book combination that I have seen or read. I know there must be some. I will finish my Tropicana and think about it. Maybe something will come to me.
Maureen - No big plans for today. How about you?
TINA: Hmmm..it seems I now have a dilemma..I started reading 'Hunger Games' on Thursday night..I have about 100 pages to go..I should be finished in a couple hours. It's an excellent book..and I've been doing just what you did..imagining how each scene would play out in the movie..how each character would look..Here's the problem..Randy wants us to go see the movie this weekend..and because I'm loving the book..I agreed. Now I don't know if I should go. They didn't mention Effie? How could they do that? It sounds like they've made the movie more action than character driven..I hate when they do that!!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm..what to do..what to do...
Dang...
TINA: The vid was disabled..I'll have to go to YouTube and check it out.
ReplyDeletebtw..I read all the Harry Potter books and liked all the movies..yes they left some things out..but the story was well told and the characters were well developed..so it was ok..
I've heard that Gary Ross..the director of The Hunger Games is not going to be doing the second movie because they want it done even faster than the first one..I guess the studio is counting on the built in fan base to make it a hit...
MO: Well..I was going to go to a movie..LOL!! It's cool and windy here..love the cool..not the wind. I'm going to make homemade chicken pot pie tonight..it's the last time I'll get to make any of those comfort foods until Fall..cuz after this weekend..Mother Nature is going to turn the broiler up on us.. :/
ReplyDeleteTINKA: I'm so glad the rain is gone and you are getting some nice warm sunshine! Are you going to spend some time relaxing on your deck? Sounds like a little bit of Heaven to me!! :)
TINA: Safe travels!! I hope you can get the flight you want.. :)
MO You're looking so pretty in first today. I have a pretty laid back agenda today but I do need to make a deposit in the bank and get a birthday card for a family member. I slept until 11 a.m. today. Best sleep I've had in days. Definitely better than the night before when I vomited at 4:30 a.m.
ReplyDeleteTina Well, I have zero interest in the Hunger Games. Just as I had zero interest in anything Harry Potter and anything Twilight.
ReplyDeleteIt's very difficult to make a movie as good as a book. With a book you get much more depth of character because you know their thoughts. I thought they did a decent job with Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I was not disappointed with movie even though they couldn't go into some of the back story of the crimes as much as they could in the book. The first thing that came to mind as far as a masjor disappointment in a movie was "Watchers" by Dean Koontz. The book was great but they made the movie into something shallow and kind of "teenage", if you know what I mean.
Tinka The movie is the current blockbuster here in the States.
ReplyDeleteZona That's one of the blessings and curses of living where I do......the year-around mild weather makes it reasonable to have comfort food any time of year. ;)
ReplyDeleteI tried to change the video to one.that werks...apparently....can't do it on an ipad...sorry!~
ReplyDeleteTina is en-route from La Guardia Airport to JFK for a 7:15 departure for SLC.
ReplyDeleteShe is carrying her new Vera Bradley bag which the TSA at Logan Int'l got dirty.
There is very potentially dangerous weather brewing throughout the midwest from MSP to Texas.
I hope their captain is sober!! I do not need this worry!
Oh...hi everyone...
TINA - I loved the trilogy!! I also enjoyed the movie. As a huge Harry Potter and Twilight fan, I have always appreciated the books and the movies for 2 separate entities.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from watching Titanic 3D!! It was such a treat to see it on the big screen again, and the 3D really added to the experience. I of course SOBBED!! I think Titanic is one of my fav all time movies ♥
ReplyDeleteWaving a wing at MOHO, TINKA, ZONA, SLIN & MICHAEL!
ReplyDeleteMICHAEL - Those bastards!! Nothing like messing up a new purse!
ReplyDeleteI hope you all have a great night. I open again tomorrow, so I'm heading to bed. Good night HOoters ♥
ReplyDeleteGood night, Sweet HOdi.
ReplyDeleteMichael I saw on the news last night that things were looking pretty dicey in the midwest. I wouldn't want to be flying through that. I hope they miss the worst of it.
ReplyDeleteTina is emailing me and said the only turbulence is when she goes to the lavatory....
ReplyDeleteok...now they are getting it....bad turbulence...lightning ...
ReplyDeleteThe radar I am tracking them on shows them about to enter another batch of thunderstorms...after that one....they may still have rough air but no more storms...
Michael Did that mean turbulance seems to coincide with when she has to use the lavatory or did it mean she causes the turbulance? LOL
ReplyDeleteHome sweet Home~
ReplyDeleteand i DO NOT cause turbulence!!!! ga!!!~
Actually, the turbulence wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.....more than usual, but not awful....I've been in worse~
I'll find the video I wanted to post for you, Zona~
Tina I'm glad you're home safe and sound. Well, safe anyway. lq
ReplyDeleteTINA - What SLIN said ;)p
