A National Disaster

by Dianne

THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY!
We Must Stop This Immediately !

Have you noticed that stairs are getting steeper.
Groceries are heavier.  And, everything is farther away. Yesterday I walked to the corner and I was dumbfounded to discover how long our street had become. And, you know, people are less considerate now, especially the young ones. They speak in whispers all the time! If you ask them to speak up they just keep repeating themselves, endlessly mouthing the same silent message until they're red in the face! What do they think I am a lip reader?

I also think they are much younger than I was at the same age. On the other hand, people my own age are so much older than I am. I ran into an old friend the other day and she has aged so much that she didn't even recognize me.

I got to thinking about the poor dear while I was combing my hair this morning, and in doing so, I glanced at my own reflection. Well, REALLY NOW   -   even mirrors are not made the way they used to be!

Another thing, everyone drives so fast these days! You're risking life and limb if you happen to pull onto the street in front of them. All I can say is, their brakes must wear out awfully fast, the way I see them screech and swerve in my rear view mirror.

Clothing manufacturers are less civilized these days. Why else would they suddenly start labeling a size 10 or 12 dress as 18 or 20? Do they think no one notices? The people who make bathroom scales are pulling the same prank. Do they think I actually 'believe' the number I see on that dial? HA! I would never let myself weigh that much! Just who do these people think they're fooling?

I'd like to call up someone in authority to report what's going on -- but the telephone company is in on the conspiracy too: they've printed the phone books in such small type that no one could ever find a number in there!

All I can do is pass along this warning:
WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!

Unless something drastic happens, pretty soon everyone will have to suffer these awful indignities.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN GET THIS CONSPIRACY STOPPED!

PS: I am writing this to you in a larger font size, because something has happened to my computer's fonts - they are smaller than they used to be.

  1. Well, this is unusual, I'm first lol!
I have been very busy! Sorry to be MIA so much. We have another Karaoke//DJ gig this week end, so I have been tying to get shopping and chores out of the way. I still have to wrap and mail pkgs out.
Dianne, are you ok today? Falling is a big fear of mine too!

Gals with the toe troubles,Mine aren't thick, just feel like I have ingrown nails. Seems my nails are bigger than my toes sometimes lol! I even had half of a nail removed once and it didn't make a difference! My son Matthew has the thick nails. I will tell him about the Vicks thing.

Thought you might get a kick out of this...
Remember when I went to the Christmas program last week end. I had the potatoes peeled and in the pan ready to be turned on, the meatloaf in the frig ready to be put in the heated oven. I gave instructions to Jim as to when to put meat in oven and when to start potatoes. Keep in mind my stove has 2 ovens (you know where this is going). I got home ready to mash taters and check on meatloaf. Yup, he put it in the upper "not warmed" oven...rare meatloaf!! LOL!! How could he not tell which oven was on??? Men!!

  4. DIANNE - Conspiracy, indeed!!! The one I've noticed is that I REALLY need my glasses (especially the reading portion) if I'm expected to see anything on the side of a bottle or package!!

  5. DIANNE - P.s. We will be back in time to watch the game. GO BRONCOS!!!

  6. Hi everyone...Happy thong Thursday. I have trouble reading prescription labels..The numbers to renew. Be careful "they"are out to get us!!!

Jodi, they are saying this game will be easy...we tend to lose easy games. At least the weather is nice today and much warmer out.

My knee has quite a bruise on it and hurts. Shoulder ache is better. Good thing so. Can twirl my tassels.

Mary, you are so lovely at first. You have been MIA a lot. Be careful or you might have to write the blogs. We miss you when you are gone.

I like rare too but not so much on meatloaf. Men!!

  7. Mary, You are the prettiest Owl today. You have been missed.

Dianne, I hope your bruises heal quickly.

J/L, It's warming up here. Tonight the temp is up to 39. My neighbor called yesterday to tell me that when he brought my garbage can in for me he slipped on the driveway because it was icy. He wanted to let me know to be careful if I had to walk out there.

Jodi, Congratz to Jake for winning his match.

  8. I mailed my cards yesterday. I hope they arrive intact. They are kind of bulky and I put extra postage on so they will hand stamp them. I just hope that works.

    ReplyDelete
  9. DIANNE - Tried finding the game when I got home. Sorry about the loss....ouch!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. BARB - Thank you! We actually missed his match. Had to run to the bank and my store before going to Jake's match and when we walked in I could tell he had already wrestled. Thankfully he usually has a friend tape his matches, so we could see it!!

  11. Well, tonight was a crummy night. I was checking one of my bills I pay through the bank and realized I sent in the electric bill pay for $16,000 instead of $160.00. I freaked out and called my bank and they said it was too late to change. They stopped payment on it and didn't charge me (probably heard the panic in my voice ). Called the electric company and they said everything is automated so they will try and cash it. Meanwhile, I sent over the correct amount. I just hope that bank lady really canceled the check. THEN I received a check for bronco playoff tickets and half way through the night I couldn't remember what I did with it....yup, right in the trash. THEN the darn Broncos lost. I think this blog today really applies to me. I must be getting old and forgetful. I'm sure Louis thinks so. Anyway, and might plus my knee hurts. Good night

  12. Best get prettied up for work. Just praying my uniform is dry before I have to leave. Ran a load yesterday and forgot to put it in the dryer til this morning....duh!!!

Have a great day HOoters ♥

    ReplyDelete
  13. DIANNE - I hope you can sleep well and praying it all works itself out. I think you need a (((hug))) lady ♥

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dianne, If I wrote a check that big I wouldn't have to cancel it at all...it would just bounce higher than a kite! I hope you're knee is better today.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jodi, I forget to put the washed clothes in the dryer a lot...sometimes it's a couple of days and I have to re-wash them. I've also washed many loads of just water. Seems I get distracted easily and well, just forget what I was doing. I probably need a keeper...

  16. Waving a flappy wing to J/L and Mary, and all you lurkers out there.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Happy Fri the 13th! Sounds like a few of you are feeling the effects lol!
I have had many "I can't believe I did that" moments! If I listed them all, someone would send the men in the white coats after me lol!!!

Barb, I have 80% of my cards mailed. There should be a bill of $1,000,000.00 in most of them. I can't remember if yours was one of them...oh well,if not, maybe next year lol!!

Jodi, great vid on his wrestling match! Had me holding my breath lol!

Dianne, If you get one of my $$cards just put it towards your electric bill ;0

    ReplyDelete
  18. JL, waving at you where ever you are~~~~~~~
    Lurkers too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Waving a wing at everyone. How did I miss this blog yesterday? I guess it's the failing eyesight due to age.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Today I taped up a box for mailing then realized I still had one more item to put in it. Needless to say, the box now has an abundance of tape on it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dianne I know you must have high electric bills in the winter but that's a little ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Mary Did you see me waving? Sometimes I think men pretend they don't know how to do anything in the kitchen just so they won't be asked to. I was lucky that my second husband really liked to cook so most of the time I let him. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Barb Just the other day I opened the washing machine and found a loud of clothes that had been forgotten in there for two days. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets distracted. I must stay, at work I'm much more focused.

    ReplyDelete
  24. HOdi It seems the forgetting to get clothes into the dryer is not limited to us older owls. Hey, out of sight, out of mind, right?

    ReplyDelete
  25. DIANNE - You're welcome. Hope your knee is getting better every day :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. BARB - I used to do that (wash water), but with our new washing machine you can't start it until you add the clothes and close the lid!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. MARY - I will have a whole day of holding my breath today. Jake has a wrestling tournament at Middleton High School all day!

    ReplyDelete
  28. SLIN - Out of sight, indeed!! I swear if I don't make a reminder on my phone or a list, I totally forget!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, according to my list it's time to do the "triple s" and get the heck outta here!!

Have a great day HOoters ♥

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just got home after 11 hours. OY!!! But totally worth it Jake won all his matches *2 by pinning* and placed first in his class!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hello HOoters.

I hope you are all having a good Saturday.

I have just returned from a celebration of life ceremony of a friend that passed away the day before Thanksgiving. He had a rare blood disease and lived eight months longer than the doctors predicted. This man had a wonderful outlook on life and death and spent the last year of his life comforting all of his family and friends. He even wrote a letter for his daughter to read to all of us, telling us he wanted this day to be a true celebration with laughter and music and no sadness. I have never known anyone with such a positive attitude. That being said, it was still sad. We all miss him.

I stopped at the store on the way home to get stuff for Dean's birthday dinner tomorrow. I bought a cake (bad Mom, I don't have time to bake one) and ingredients for cabbage rolls. I am leaving for Church soon and when I get home I have to clean my house. I have been working so much, I have neglected the housework. Now I am having company and I HAVE to do it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Barb Cabbage rolls! I haven't made those in decades and I love them! Wish I could join you.

I'm going to our office party tonight. If nothing else, it's free food. It's held at the local golf course club house restaurant. Foods always good and there is a bar so I'm looking forward to a nice spicy Bloody Mary.

    ReplyDelete
  33. HOdi Congrats to Jake and LOL @ the "triple S".

    ReplyDelete
  34. J/L, We are eating at 3:00. If you leave in the morning, you have plenty of time to get here!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Barb Can I have a rain check on that? I have a date with a cookie press on Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi.....what are you guys doing today? Great game, Jodi. Exciting.

JL, did you make cookies today? Maybe you could send us each a box full. That would be nice of you. How was the party? No check in from you today...did you party hard?

Barb, how was your yummy dinner? Did you all have fun? Sounded good.

Mary, sounds like you are having bad weather there? We are in the 60's this week until the end of the week..hopefully.

Went to a nice Christmas brunch with my friend. Also went to a Christmas gathering with old co workers Friday night. It was fun to see everyone.

Horrible about the shooting at school, here on Friday. Very scary and everyone was on lock down. The student that was shot is in critical condition.

  37. My granddaughter had state competition yesterday in cheer and the freshman cheer that she's in won first place. They were very excited and cried. They cry if they win or cry if they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dianne, The cabbage rolls turned out well and everyone seemed to like them.

Congratz to your granddaughter and her cheer team. You should post a video of them cheering on FB.

It's getting so scary about these shootings. There was an incident here today with a man who was threatening to shoot his family and himself. Thankfully, the police were able to talk him down, but it took seven hours. The street was on lock-down and no one could leave or go back to their home until it was over.

    ReplyDelete
  39. BARB - Blessings to your friend. Had he been ill? I've never had cabbage rolls before, but I'd sure like to try!! I'm sure they were delicious!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks SLIN - He said he had a "cupcake" bracket. The boy he wrestled 3rd hadn't won a match all day. I'm looking forward to his club tournaments. A little more talent there. It was fun watching my boy, though!

    ReplyDelete
  41. DIANNE - We had my holiday party for full time co-workers yesterday. All was well until I had 2 Tom n' Jerry's and I felt like I had a hole in my tummy! We went home after halftime. Wish I had watched that second half. From what I read it was exciting!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. SLIN - How was your party on Saturday? And what kind of cookies did you make? Spritz?

    ReplyDelete
  43. DIANNE - How exciting for your Granddaughter!! Congrats to her team! Scary about that shooting .... I hope that student pulls thru! We had gotten an email Saturday from our school district administrator. Evidently they found an empty bullet case at the high school on Friday, but they figured out that it was a student that was a hunter and that it had fallen out of his jacket pocket. I couldn't imagine if it was more serious that that!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Barb One of these days I will take you up on that. Now that I have the dog again, it's not as easy for me to take off like I used to.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dianne That's great that your granddaughter's cheer team won first place. LOL @ them crying if they win and crying if they lose. That's teenage girls for ya!

So scary about that shooting. Why are so many wacked out kids able to get guns from their houses?

    ReplyDelete
  46. HOdi The office party was nice and the food was really, really good.

Yes, today I made Spritz oockies...about 7 dozen of them.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Happy Monday.

I got packages in the mail today. I ordered a pressure cooker for my DIL and I meant to have it shipped to Todd at work so I wouldn't have to mail it from Sac. Well, being as tech savvy as I am, NOT, I screwed up and it was delivered here, so I mailed it today and it cost me $29. That was an expensive lesson and I will pay better attention next time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. J/L, Did you make the cookies for the party?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Waving to Mary and Dianne. Keep warm.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi...Barb it's warm here...IN THE 60's with sunshine. Got lots of owl cards in the mail today. I love your special made card. You did a great job. I love all of them...I enjoy getting cards.

Lunch today with my daughter and then grocery store, gas and home. I think I finally have all my packages delivered to me except one and I just ordered that one yesterday. Now back to wrapping again blah

I woke up at 2:30 am throwing up. It was very weird as I'm not sick and then went back to sleep at 5am. Feel fine today

What are you all up to today?

    Barb, expensive shipping.

Mary, once again there was no check in your card as you hinted there would be this year. Imagine my disappointment?

JL, no cookies in your card. What's this world coming to?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Happy Birthday MARY!! I hope u r having an amazing day!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. SLIN - I love spritz cookies!! My SIL makes them every year, so I don't have to!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. BARB - Thank u! I told my girl Tina I wanted red for the holidays. She did a red tip with red glitter over the top!

    ReplyDelete
  54. DIANNE - Now that weather I wouldn't mind u sending! When I was heading in to get my nails done today, it had just started snowing. By the time I got done, my normally 10-15 minute drive took me over 35 minutes. I was supposed to sub for my boss tonight, but no freakin' way am I driving back to bowl in this weather. I'd rather just pay and have them use my average.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Barb I made the Spritz cookies and other cookies and fudge for the family.

I want to chime in about your card you made. Beautiful! You always make such great cards.

    ReplyDelete
  56. HOdi I'm glad you decided not to go out again tonight. No need to take chances in the crappy weather.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Dianne I'm afraid the cookies weren't flat enough to fit in the envelope.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Happy Birthday Mary Hope you're day was good

    ReplyDelete
  59. SLIN - I guess I wasn't the only one. Turns out the other sub did chance it, but didn't have a "regular" there, so our team had to forfeit.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well, it seem I missed my own Birthday in the nest lol! I was gone all day. I decided to do some "me" shopping, you know, cuz it was my burtday lol!
I found some great bargains at Macy's. I had coupons too! It was pretty crowded out there! We have been snow bound for a few days so I think peeps were recovering from cabin fever!
While Jim went to the Casino today, My son Matthew and I have been out in the freezing garage putting up Jim"s Christmas present.
His side of the garage (door) hasn't worked in years. He is too cheep and lazy to do it himself lol! We put up a new powered door opener. My side works fine. Believe me, before I start lifting the thing by hand, I will have someone fix it, like now LOL! I love my remote!
OK, time to catch up on posts......

    ReplyDelete
  61. MARY - Good for you...."me" shopping is the best!! And you always get what you want ;)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Just got home from Jake's last Middle School meet. He pinned his guy!!! Next up...Oregon Youth Wrestling. Thankfully we have a couple of weeks off before he starts practice for that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Stopped at our store on the way home and we have sold over $1,700 in Mega Millions tickets since 5 am. Still 2 hours to sell tickets. Crazy!!! The last notification we got the jackpot had jumped yet again to $636 million dollars!! Holy crap!! It will be interesting to see if this thing gets won tonight and how many more tickets we sell.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jodi, Crazy lottery eh? My son and hubby got me some scratch off tickets, so I took some of the winnings and bought me some Megas! I really don't need 636 Million, one or two lousy mill would do just fine lol!
    Kudos on Jake's win!!

Dianne, congrats to your Grand daughter's team winning the Championship!! How exciting!
    Throwing up still? Not preggy??

Barb, we have had some gun in school incidents here too! Things like that were unheard of in my day! Sorry about your friend. He sounds like he was quite a guy!
I wonder if cabbage rolls travel through the mail well?????

    JL, What are "spritz cookies?"

    ReplyDelete
  65. MARY - Just checked my tickets online and I won $6!! The jackpot was split between ticket holders in California and Georgia. SLIN...BARB? Did you gals play?

    ReplyDelete
  66. HOdi Nope, I don't play. Funny that I don't because I love casinos.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Mary Spitz cookies are the ones you make using a cookie press. There are attachments that allow you to make different shapes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. JL, I have never heard of them!

I had lunch in the big city with my old co-workers.I love these get-to-togethers! We do a different restaurant every month. Our snow birds were missing, but still had 10 of us there. W picked a bar/restaurant that was right across from our work. I saw "was" because they torn down the building we worked in. So sad to see the big empty space! Oh if those walls could have talked lol!!
I did a little more shopping and stopped at a party store to turn in the big $8 I won last night.
I got in my Jeep as some guy in an old truck pulled in. He rolled down his window, jumped out of his still running truck and went into the store. In his front seat was the cutest about 2 yr old little blonde girl!GAH!! I looked at her and waved. She smiled and waved back! You would think he would of at least parked where he could keep an eye on her! I waited until he got back, which was not long. He just jumped in and sped off! Men!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jodi, I didn't buy a ticket either. The CA winner bought the ticket in San Jose. My SIL lives in San Jose, but if it is she, I won't be sharing in her winnings.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi....what's up gals? Not much here. Broke a heat record here today of 68. It's going to only be 35 tomorrow. Crazy.

Yesterday I took a little gift over to my Tuesday lady and she was sp pleased that she had one for me too. She had made me a pound cake with the help of the girl that comes and helps her in the morning. I was so touched. This woman is in a wheelchair or walker so it was not an easy thing for her to do. It made my day.

Won't be long until Christmas. I love the season, I wish it was a couple of weeks away still. Oh well.

    Hope you're all doing well.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Enjoying a cup of coffee in a quiet house. Paul has just left for work and the boys are still sleeping. I have 2 days off, work the weekend, then have Monday - Thursday off next week. Last year I worked all the major holidays, so I told my boss months ago that I will NOT be working Christmas Eve or Day this year. I also had some vacation time to use up before I lose it, so I'm taking it now. First time in the 12 1/2 years that I've worked for Kwik Trip that a boss of mine has allowed that!!

Need to get Christmas shopping wrapped up and enjoy this holiday season. Still haven't gotten all the pics I want for our Christmas card. Pretty hard with Sam not living at home. I do know for sure that we will all be together for Christmas Eve, so looks like I will be sending out Happy New Year cards instead!

    ReplyDelete
  72. MARY - Drives me crazy when people leave their car running with their kids inside their vehicles when they stop at my store. DUMB!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. SLIN & BARB - Too bad u didn't purchase tickets. We sold a whopping $2,600 in Mega Millions alone. CRAZY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. DIANNE - Crazy weather for sure. We are suppose to get freezing rain starting about 6pm tonight and will get a dumping of snow on Sunday. They are tracking the storm right now. I've seen some reports of 3-5 inches, while other stations are predicting up to 10. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

So sweet that your Tuesday lady made u that cake. She sounds like a gem ♥

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi Jodi..IM awake for a potty break and back to sleep I go. Can u believe Christmas is all over a week from today? Having Christmas with my son and family Sunday over here. We will take them to dinner. I'm still not thrilled how this holiday worked out and I feel bad for my daughter getting stuck with two holidays when my DIL usually takes one. Poor Tammy has 20 people coming on Christmas. Everyone brings something and her dad and I help, fund it but it's still a lot of work. Ok..enough of my whining. Hope Sunday goes well and I don't have to speak up to my DIL.

I feel so awake but I sure won't later. Glad you are getting the holiday off this year. That will be nice for you.

    Ok..back to sleep..Night xxoo

    ReplyDelete
  76. DIANNE - I want to love the season, but I'm having a hard time this year. Been kinda sad since Thanksgiving. Has everything to do with my brother. This is the first holiday that I didn't call/text him and neither did he. Totally breaks my heart. We have our Jacobson Christmas (my Mom's side of the family) this Saturday. The only reason I'm even thinking of going is because of my Aunt Jane and my cousins. Really not looking forward to seeing my brother. It was on that Christmas last year that he totally treated me like crap and made me cry. It's just not right.
