Cap'n Jack's Seafood Grille

by Dianne

A group of 15-year-old boys discussed where they should meet
for dinner. It was agreed they would meet at the McDonald's
next to Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because they only had six
dollars among them, they could ride their bikes there and
Jennie Webster, that cute girl in Social Studies, lives on the
same street and they might see her.

Ten years later, the group of now 25-year-old guys discussed
where they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they would
meet at Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the beer was
cheap, the bar had free snacks, the house band was good, there
was no cover charge and there were lot of cute girls.

Ten years later, at 35 years of age, the group once again
discussed where they should meet for dinner. It was decided
they would meet at Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the
booze was good, it was near their gym and, if they went late
enough, there wouldn't be too many whiny little kids.

Ten years later, at 45, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they would meet at
Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the martinis were big and
the waitresses wore low cut blouses and really tight pants.

Ten years later, now 55, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they would meet at
Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the prices were
reasonable, they have a nice wine list and fish is good for
               your cholesterol.

Ten years later, at 65 years of age, the group once again
discussed where they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they
would meet at Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the
lighting was good and they have an early bird special.

Ten years later, at 75 years of age, the group once again
discussed where they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they
would meet at Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because the food
was not too spicy and the restaurant was handicapped
               accessible.

Ten years later, at 85 years of age, the group once again
discussed where they should meet for dinner. It was agreed they
would meet at Captain Jack's Seafood Grille because they had
               never been there before...

  2. I'm here!!

Dianne, that was funny and agree with JL,very close to the truth :)

It has been a boring, but busy day. Gross-ery shopping is getting pretty depressing with prices getting so high! Feeding an extra mouth has also put a big dent in my wallet too! I will miss Todd (Jim's son) when he leaves in Nove., but I won't miss the extra work and expense!

Sounds like Barb is having a good time in Disney World/Land.
I am thinking that I am ready for a vaca. You know...running away from home lol!!

  3. Mary Yes, running away, vacation, whatever you want to call it.....sounds good to me!

  5. Mary I'm here hiding in the shadows. Nothing much going on today. I did exercise at Curves and met a friend for dinner. Tomorrow I am helping at a friend's yard sale.

  9. Checking in and keeping the nest air conditioned for you!

I have been working in my yard all day. Not the smartest thing to do in this heat, but it's the best time to beat the skeeters!

Company will be here in a few. He's hubbies best friend from school. He stops by once in a while. I like him, but he is one of those peeps that doesn't know when to leave, comes at dinner time, drinks your beer and brings none...ever lol! Jim and I just grin and bear it.

  10. Hello HOoters.

I am back from Disneyland, however we did NOT actually go into the park. The convention kept us busy all day at the Hotel and the Twilight tickets to Disneyland, which are good from 4pm to midnight, cost $55 per night. We didn't get out of our workshops until close to 5pm and there was a dinner scheduled for two of the four nights, and a team meeting on the third night. We started at 8am each morning, and we weren't inclined to stay up til midnight, so we just didn't go. They are having the convention at the Disneyland Hotel again next year and if we go, we will go a day or two early so we can go to Disneyland.

We did see some of the characters, mostly Goofy, and that was fun. Goofy is MEK's fave and we saw him about 4-5 times. MEK said she thought he was stalking her, which was OK with her.

  11. I'm off to church. I hope I don't fall asleep during the sermon. BBL

  12. Barb,LOL LOL LOL!! Thanks for the belly laugh ". MEK said she thought he was stalking her, which was OK with her."

It sure would be cool to meet up with you gals at Disney. I know you would be busy, but 2 days before and some lounging after would be my heaven lol!!
I am so glad you had a good time with MEK :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Barb Welcome home! It sounds like you had a very good time. Were you able to bring home all your freebies? I'm sure you managed somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mary, The convention is going to be in July next year. so start planning now! Plus, we better start feeding the bail fund! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mary Maybe we can meet up with Barb and MEK next year. Goofy can stalk MEK and we can stalk Goofy. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  16. J/L, yes I was able to bring home all the freebies. Of course when you pay $300 for the convention, I guess it wasn't all so "free." LOL

  17. Hi....I'm here too.

Barb, glad you had a good time at Disney. Looks like you had lots of good food too. Is this the first year you've gone? It would be fun to go a couple of days early and enjoy the sights. Did you snore in church?

Jodi, boy it looks like you've been very busy having fun. I've been following you on FB. Have you been off this weekend?

Mary, did your company go home or is he still there for the night? Maybe he brought his Jammie's this time. Did you have yo cook for all those men .you little saint?

JL, thanks for the hugs and prayers. My granddaughter is having some teenage issues and I'm not dealing well with it. She's only 15 and my first grandchild and thinks she's 25. I wish she was 25 then I wouldn't worry so much!! Anyway thank you.

How was the yard sale? Did you sell anything or just help? Maybe you sold enough for that cruise!!

Well, today(Monday) is my no food prep day for my Tuesday colonoscopy. I'm a few years behind and dreading it. I'm not a good drinker. I found a dr that only makes you drink miralax and take some pills but I'm still dreading it. I'm driving Louis crazy. I'm hoping to sleep most of the day so I won't be hungry until the prep starts. I then have to wait until 1pm for my test! I'm just not in a cheerful mood right now for many reasons.

Ok..I'll fly over to my branch and behave.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Barb Well, I guess nothing's really free, right? I didn't know there was such a thing as Twilight tickets. I would think everyone would buy those since it is almost half off the full day tickets. I remember when it was E Tickets that were the best ones to get. It was kind of fun to choose how you were going to use your book of tickets. Of course what they do now is much easier all the way around and saves on paper, too.

  19. Dianne I'm sorry you are having such issues with your granddaughter. Teenagers are.....well, they're teenagers. I know I was mostly a good kid but I didn't always make the best choices. If we don't make mistakes, we don't learn anything about navigating life. She is a lucky girl in that she has a lot of love in her life and she has a good foundation. At some point we have to let them fly and let them make their own mistakes, which they will. She has the tools to handle it.

  20. Hello Hooter. I'm getting ready to get the gray covered in my hair. It's 1:16 pm and 93 degrees here, working its way up to 107. I'm only going from the house to the car and from the car to the salon and back again. I don't mind SOME heat, but that's crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dianne, Ditto what J/L said. Teenagers have to try their wings and their parents' and grandparents' patience. I have been keeping her and the family in my prayers.

I was able to stay awake in church, but I left right after communion - I know, I'm probably going to go to hell!

    ReplyDelete
  22. J/L, I didn't know about the twilight tickets before this, either. Quite a few of the younger ladies got them. They are able to stay up LATE, and get up early!

  23. Barb, thank u so much for keeping them in your prayers. I really appreciate it

  24. Hi, Hooters. How has everyone been today? I had to go to work for a little while. I informed my boss that I will be leaving in another month or so. My job has gotten whittled down to be not many hours and I feel it is no longer cost effective for me to keep doing it. I find it is a pain in the ass whenever I have to go in and look for an available computer to use, find one that will let me print what it is I need to, etc. Plus, they separated the bookkeeping for the two hospitals which reduced the number of delinquent accounts I need to follow up on at the one I am working for. Then they have been doing a bang up job of getting more people to pay before leaving the hospital, meaning less for me to deal with later. Bottom line is that my hours are probably less than half what they once were, meaning that my paycheck is quite meager. It just isn't worth my aggravation anymore.

Oh, and I had a young bird stuck in my kitchen for a short time today. It kept trying to get back out by going through the closed kitchen window. I finally got it to go back out the open door. Poor thing. My dog sure would have liked to get a better look at it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi...JL, how did the bird get into your kitchen? I would have been scared

Well, the last two days have been colonoscopy days for me and they have been miserable. My test wasn't until 2:00 today so it was a long wait. I've been asleep since we came home. All the test were good so I'm happy about that and now I think I get to wait even longer before the next one. Boy, am I glad that's over. I've been putting it off forever and get tired of hearing about it...so all done!!

JL, do you think you'll miss your job? Now you'll be officially retired.

I thought I was so hungry tonight but when you haven't eaten in two days it seems like you can't eat much. I'd better have a good weigh in tomorrow.

  26. DIANNE - Cute blog! Sorry I've been an errant little owl and you had to send a search party out for me!

    ReplyDelete
  27. DIANNE - Sending prayers for your Granddaughter. Its a tough age, but she is surrounded by love and that will win out in the end. Of course I remember being so worried and frustrated with Sam at the same age. All I wanted was to pop her in the ass and say "snap out of it"!!!! Love u lady ♥

  28. SLIN - I think the smell has died down now ;) I'm right here!!! It's been a crazy couple of weeks at work. Milissa is officially our new Store Leader and everyone is having growing pains. Alex was smart when he had her go out with us late this spring. It gave me a chance to "connect" with her in a good way before she stepped into her new role at my store.

  29. MARY - Crazy couple weeks of weather, huh? I'm ready to "dry out" ;)

  32. Last weekend was the Madison Scouts home show. And boy did I get an earful from James' Mom. Evidently my brother and his wife are wreaking havoc for James. Wanted him to pay "rent" for the 5 days he would be staying with them during the week. $75 for 5 days. Wanted him to learn some responsibility and they think he was feeling "entitled"....wtf!!! He tried it for a week and a half, but his anxiety took over. He is now spending the summer at his Mom's and I don't blame him. And Eric must be blaming Sharon for not being "on board" with this horse shit! They all were at the drum corps show on Saturday and they didn't say ONE WORD to her.

#1 Eric and I both lived at home til we got married. RENT FREE!!!

#2 Dad never charged Eric rent, even when he moved in with him when he separated from Sharon.

#3 Eric's wife has some big freakin' balls. It's all about the money and control with her. I guess she will have Eric all to herself in the end because James is very close to not wanting anything to do with them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. On the up side, I have a couple more drum corps shows to go to in the next 5 days. So exciting to see such young talent!! And I get to see one of the Mom's I met last August on Thursday! Yay!! I've been playing "Mom away from home" for 3 of my new friends. They appreciate the effort that I've made seeing their boys. Especially since they won't have the opportunity to see them in person for at least another 3 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Best get prettied up for work. It's my day "on the road". We are doing shelf audits at the 3 stores in Janesville today!!

Have a great day HOoters ♠

  35. Just another thought.....

A year and a half ago when Eric blasted me in an email, he specifically said 2 things: I hope you're good with your maker, and that's not how we were raised.

    Hmmmm.....

    1. I'm fine with my maker. You're the one not demonstrating very Christ like behavior!!

    2. Our Mother would be putting her size 9 shoe up his ass....because that is not how we were raised. Period!!!

    *thanks for letting me vent*!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. HOdi I wonder if Eric felt entitled during the time he lived with your dad. It seems your brother is an ass and a hypocrite. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dianne Yes, after I complete my tasks in late July and early August, I will be completely retired. The hours it takes to accomplish monthly project is so few now that it just isn't worth the aggravation. I do get excellent benefits in animal care, though, so I'll be giving that up. At least I only have one dog compared to the 40 cats I once had.

    ReplyDelete
  38. SLIN - Don't be sorry, he is an ass. One without any balls. Seriously!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. J/L, do you think the Vet will give you a courtesy discount even after you retire? That would be nice!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I can't believe I have another miserable cold or maybe it's the same one I never totally got rid of after Chicago. Anyway, I have gone through two big boxes of Kleenex since I got home on Sunday. I did not have to go anywhere today and so I barely got dressed. I put jeans on and I'm still wearing my pajama top without a bra! It's more comfortable when I cough, which is a LOT! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jodi, at least you have the knowledge that you have done all you can to make peace with your brother. You can't change someone else, you can only change how you react to them, so try not to let his actions stress you out. He is the one who needs to make things right with his maker.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Barb It sucks that you have another cold. Maybe you picked it up on the airplane. That seems to be very germy. They don't clean them between flights as well as they used to and they didn't do that great a job in the first place, imho. Once when I got on a plane, I saw another passenger wiping down her arm rests and tray table with wipes. That was probably a smart move on her part.

    ReplyDelete
  43. BARB - I have truly tried, and it's not worth it. I have surrounded myself with people who love me unconditionally and don't judge me. A new kind of family!! I consider you and all my HOoters to be a part of that circle ♥

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jodi, I'll be part of your "family". I agree that you can only do so much and you've continued to tend the Olive branch over and over. It's too bad. You know you can vent any time here. We all do at one time or another. We are friends!!

Talk about asses...my ex told my daughter that she was a bad mom just like I was. Now that's just what my daughter needs to hear from her dad as she is going through struggles. He called her back to be sure she wasn't mad and she told him if I was so bad why did my son and Tammy talk to me all the time and never to him? Hmm he changed it that I wasn't bad just made decisions he didn't agree with....ass we've been divorced forty frickin years ago!!!! Men.

On an up note, I went to WW today and lost 11 lbs. I guess not eating for three days and going potty works to lose weight.

Barb, I'm sorry you r sick again. I think you can't travel anymore. It's not good for your health. You are going to have to take a lot of airborne next trip.

JL, let's have a retirement party.....at the ocean.

Oh Jodi, I remember when Sam was this age and your struggles then and look how great she turned out. If we can just get through this time. It's hard and scary and I'm hating social media.

JL, u didn't tell me how the bird got into your kitchen.

Mary, I see you limping around on FB with that boot on. What's up? How long do you have to wear it? Can you drive or is it your driving foot?

    ReplyDelete
  45. J/L, I'm not sure I was completely over the cold from Chicago, or maybe my immune system was just low. I started getting a sore throat the day before I left for home. Also, one day, there was a woman sitting behind us sneezing and coughing the whole two hours we were in that session. We wanted to move, but there were no empty seats. Plus, I'm sure the plane issues you mentioned didn't help. MEK is sick, too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dianne, I am definitely home for a while. I have been on five trips between March 14 and June 29. I am exhausted. I think I'm getting too old for this. I need more time to recoup between trips.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mary, I have a boot just like yours from when I sprained my ankle. I had to wear it for about six weeks. I had to find a shoe for my other foot that would put it at the same level as the boot foot so I didn't wobble when I walked because my hip started to hurt. I wish the doc had told me that before my hip told me.

  48. Jodi, I am honored to be considered your family. ❤️ U

  49. I got my hair colored today, met my cousin for lunch and stopped at the store to get a fruit tray to take to a BBQ tomorrow. That was my big day.

We r going to my ex SIL house for a BBQ. My daughter and boyfriend will be there as well as some of there friends. It's in the mountains so it should be nice and the kids can swim.

Anyone else have any plans for the day? I like to watch fireworks but guess I'll have to set the recorder for that show.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Barb I'm blaming that woman who was coughing and sneezing behind you in the session, although that could have been allergies, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dianne I got my hair colored today, too, and cut. I went to the gross-ry store afterwards to pick up a rib eye steak and mushrooms for my July 4 dinner. I'll sautee the mushrooms in butter and garlic and also have a baked potato and corn on the cob along with that steak. Otherwise, I will be hanging out at home keeping the dog company as she really doesn't like hearing the fireworks.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh, and a friend and I went out to dinner tonight at an Afghan restaurant. It's a special place we like to go. Yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Barb, I am having trouble finding a shoe to "even me ou" lol!
I have had it on for 2 days and my pain is barley noticeable! My problem is driving. It hurts like crazy when I use the gas peddle without the boot. I am still trying to figure out how to "bling" it up lol!
I hope you start feeling better soon!

Hodi, remember I am your adopted sister, Mom, Aunt and BFF!!

Dianne, Your 4th sounds like fun. We are staying home for the most part. We always loan our equipment to a friend of ours for a couple of hours. He does a huge fireworks display by the river and likes some patriotic music playing while shooting them off. Last year I took out Zoie. She was not amused lol! I think I will stay home and doggy sit. If I sit on my new deck I can just about see the fireworks. The river is close to us.

I got my hair done today and I am not real happy! I took a picture and told him I didn't want it any shorter than the pic.(shoulder length)Well, my hair is no where near my shoulders! Oh well it will grow out!

Have a great Holiday week end all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mary, I had to wear my Sketchers walking shoe to 'even me out.' It looked stupid but it was all I could find that matched the height of the boot.

    ReplyDelete
  55. J/L, I blame that woman too. I don't think it was allergies. I have never had Afghan food. Is it spicy?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dianne, Enjoy your day in the mountains.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mary You need a hairdresser that knows how to cut curly hair and not all of them are good at that. You have a lot of curl in your hair and so it springs up shorter when it's dry.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Barb No, the food isn't spicy. We had two appetizers: fried eggplant and cooked pumpkin. Both had a yogurt sauce spooned over them and a meat sauce on top of that (similar to an Italian meat sauce). Both were delicious and the pumpkin dish is like a dessert. So good! Then we each had a chicken stew made with chicken breast which is served over rice. Oh, and we had a delicious lentil soup, too. It was so much food that we each brought half out entrée home. They serve dishes family style. Probably the most common dishes on the menu are kabobs; chicken, lamb, or beef.
