Alice Grayson was to bake a cake for the Baptist Church Ladies' Group in Tuscaloosa, AL, but forgot it until the last minute.
She
remembered the morning of the bake sale and after rummaging through
cabinets, found an angel food cake mix & quickly made it while
drying her hair, dressing, and helping her son pack for scout camp.
When she took the cake from the oven, the center had dropped flat, the cake was disfigured !
"Oh dear, there is not time to bake another one!"
Being inventive, she looked for something to build up the
center of the cake. She found it in the bathroom - a roll of toilet
Paper. She plunked it in and covered it with icing.
Not only did the finished product look beautiful, it looked perfect!
Before
she left the house to drop the cake by the church and head for work,
Alice woke her daughter and gave her some money and specific
instructions: be at the bake sale the moment it opened at 9:30, buy the
cake and bring it home!
But when the daughter arrived at the sale, she found the attractive, perfect cake had already been sold!
Amanda grabbed her phone and called her mom.
Alice was horrified! beside herself! Everyone would know! What would they think? She would be talked about, ridiculed!
All night Alice tossed in bed thinking about the "toilet paper" cake! People talking about the cake! And about her!
The next morning
Alice tried to put the cake out of her mind, just attend the fancy
luncheon/bridal shower at the home of a fellow church member, try to
have a good time.
She really did not
want to attend..the hostess was a church snob who more than once had
looked down her nose at Alice, a single parent, NOT from one of the
founding families of Tuscaloosa. But.. she had already RSVP'd, and
couldn't think of a believable excuse to stay home.
The meal was
elegant, the company was definitely upper crust old south, and to
Alice's horror, the cake in question was presented for dessert!
The blood drained from her body when she saw IT: the "toilet paper" cake! No!
She
rose up out of her chair to tell the hostess, but before she could get
to her feet, the Mayor's wife remarked, "What a beautiful cake!"
Alice, stunned, dropped back in her chair, as she heard the hostess (a prominent church lady) say,
"Thank you, I baked it myself."
Alice smiled. The blood began to return to her body. And a thought crept into her mind:
"God is good"

Jim's smoking is definitely the biggest reason he hates to fly, but the tight seating bugs him too.I don't have a problem, but then I am a foot shorter lol!

It was a bad weather day (again) here in Mich. First heavy snow, sleet and ended with freezing rain! Today was the first time we have been above freezing in a long time! Next week is looking better :)
I need to get my roots did, but hate driving to the big city when the roads are bad!

What's everyone doing today? Paul has his union meeting tonight, so I'm going to Bingo at Club 5. Alex called and asked if I could go with Dustin because Alex is going to visit another of our friends tonight. Our friend Brandon is the Drag Queen that hosts Bingo. Should be a fun night!!

I moved my recumbent bike from the basement to my office. I have been having a hell of a time using it. Zoie goes crazy when I start peddling! Today we butted again! I think I finally convinced her that the dang thing is not going to eat me or her lol!!!

Hey HOoters! How is everyone?
I have done pretty much nothing all day. I got up late, watched my soaps and a little more TV, then went back to bed for a few hours. I got up to watch Nashville and Jimmy Fallon and now I'm going back to bed. Not sure what tomorrow will bring. I hope you all have a good day.

HOdi Sounds like you had a fun night planned. Did you win anything at Bingo? My daughter and I always play Bingo on the cruise ships but neither of us has ever won anything. LOL
Barb I hope you're feeling perkier today. As you know, I had a low-energy day on Monday. I managed to run a brush through my hair but that was about it. Oh, I had one burst of energy when I swept the garage floor.
Mary LOL @ your dog wanting to protect you from the recumbent bike! I wonder if she would chase a cyclist if they were riding by your house.

This afternoon I have an appointment with my tax accountant. Geez, did a year go by already?
Just_Lin, We just got our taxes done and sent out. My childhood friend is a tax agent. After Jim's 2 tax fiasco that cost us a bundle, I told him "no more!"
He has always done our taxes, but the language in the tax booklets have gotten too confusing! I think he was glad I relieved him of this duty lol!!
Dianne, I bet you wish you would have taken your coat! Who would have thought Texas would have such cold weather and snow in March!!

Hi....y'all....I think that's how they spell it here. Well, I finally made it many hours late. It's been snowing and sleeting until today the sun came out and melted things. We went to the movie to see Still Alice or something like that title. It was a good movie but sad. Julianne Moore won best actress for it. The day before we watch Marigold Hotel on pay TV. I think tomorrow we will go see the second one tomorrow. Very cute movie. We went for Mexican today. I love ven played a game last night. I'm not much of a game player but it was fun. It's strange to be eating three meals a day too. Home cooked too!!!
Louis is home sick with sore throat and fever. I made a dr apt for him tomorrow as he can't even talk.
Sounds everyone is kind of laying around. I think it's the weather. Gives you the "hum drums" this time of year. Time to be getting ready for St Paricks Day plus we get to change the clocks this weekend ..the extra daylight should cheer us up.
It's been fun catching up with my friend. Mary, the cruise is mid-May.
SLIN - I won the dress and wig that I was wearing in the pic I posted on FB! The dress is quite heavy and cost over $400 when the Drag Queen who owned it bought it. I only know this because he was bar tending that night.
MARY - I hope all hell didn't break loose ;)
DIANNE - Who could've predicted this crazy weather? I hope Louis feels better soon!
I have to take the boys to school, have an appointment to get my tires rotated, and then having lunch with my friend Christina. She used to work at my store and called yesterday pretty upset. Her store leader apparently is quite condescending and she's about at her wit's end. Her birthday is on Sunday and mine is Wednesday, so we're are celebrating a little early.

Enjoying myself in warm Texas. It's so green here and lots of home cooked meals. We are going to our third movie today...McFarland
Hey...where are all of you today? Maybe the weather is nice and everyone's enjoying that while it lasts.
The movie is was really good. One more day here in the Dallas area and then off to Houston for a week to visit family.
Louis us home really sick this week. He needs a nurse and Mary volunteered but she was as going to wear her sexy nurse outfit!!
