Deaf Italian Bookkeeper

by Dianne

A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper, Guido,  has cheated him out of $10,000,000.00

His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the first place. It was assumed that Guido would hear nothing so he would not have to testify in court.

When the Godfather goes to confront Guido about his missing $10 million, he takes along his lawyer who knows sign language.

The Godfather tells the lawyer, "Ask him where the money is!" The lawyer, using sign language, asks Guido, "Where's the money?"

Guido signs back, "I don't know what you are talking about."

The lawyer tells the Godfather, "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."

The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to Guido's head and says, "Ask him again or I'll kill him!"

The lawyer signs to Guido, "He'll kill you if you don't tell him."

Guido trembles and signs, "OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed at my cousin Bruno's house."

The Godfather asks the lawyer, "What did he say?"

The lawyer replies, "He says you don't have the balls to pull the trigger."

           Don't you just love lawyers?

  1. LOL @ evil lawyer!!
Dianne, We will be in Vegas Mon-Fri. I have checked out the shows, but the ones I want to see won't be there during my stay. Dianna Ross & Bruno :(
I am glad you have a best friend to talk with. I wish I could have lunch with you!

Barb/WA,How old is your Mom? Does she live alone? I'm sure she appreciated the cookies and movie. BTW what movie? I can't remember if you mentioned it.
How fa away are you from your Mom and Son?

JL,My Gr Children call me Grandma. sometimes "Grandma Mary". My sister who lives in Georgia had a Mother in law who was called Mee maw. She (my sis) was adamant that we called her that. We had a terrible time doing it, as it sounded weird to us lol!
In my family you show respect by addressing relatives by their standing in the family to them, like Aunt Mary, Grandma Mary.. ...always! Still do lol!

SacBarb,I saw the downed tree on the news. How sad! I have seen many pictures of it. I forget how old it was.
I am thinking I will be taking Queenie to this Doggie day care again.Your son has the right idea. Our cost is just a bit lower than his, more for kenneling all week. Well worth it to Jim,not having to worry about her. She needs to be around other dogs anyway. The have dog training too.
Our mail box is out by the road. We have an "L" shaped drive from the road. We have a bit of traffic, and are at the bottom of a deep hill. Idiots tend to speed up going down and up it, so I have to be very careful! I have hit the ditch a few times to get out of the way of large farm equipment and semi s. LOL!

We are getting a small snow storm tonight. At least we are back in the double digits temp. wise!

  2. Well, I had an unhappy discovery today. A section of my very back fence is down as is one 8 foot section of the side fence at the farthest corner. It's raining again tonight and it's supposed to get really bad again tomorrow night, with the dreaded high winds. I really don't need this right now when I'm fretting about money to go on the cruise and land trip in April.

The storm knocked out my tv service, landline phone service, and internet service late last night and it didn't come back on until a little after 8 p.m. tonight. That's the trouble with "bundling' everything goes out at the same time.

I thought I was going to put away my Christmas decorations yesterday but that still hasn't happened. My son and grandchildren came to visit yesterday so I have an excuse for not getting that done then. Today I just didn't get to it so I guess tomorrow will be good enough. I had already taken the wreath off the door because of the storms. Oh, and we had a mudslide that blocked Highway 1 which is the Coast Highway and the only highway in and out of Pacifica.

  3. Hi...We had a lot of wind here today too. 100mph just outside of town. They said it was like a hurricane without rain. There was a lot of damage. JL, so sorry about your fence..darn it! Will your insurance help out with it, although you probably have a deductible. It was nice you got to spend some time with your grandchildren. How old are they now? They are both very nice looking.

My granddaughters call me Nana and my grandsons call me grandma Di. I would have liked to be called nana by all of them but my DIL didn't want them to call me nana.

MARY, are you all packed? That's too bad there aren't any shows for you to see. It's my favorite thing to do there. Where do u stay.

Kayla went to school today and said it went good. Im finding some hope to at least get her diploma. As I keep saying .. baby steps.

  5. Hi, Hooters. Why am I up so early? This is not my normal behavior. I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Not only could I not turn off my mind, but I have a bunch of bites on me that are itching and driving me nuts. It seems to be mosquito bites as I really react to them. That's the down side to having everything remain so wet outside for so long. I'm also very worried about the cost of replacing fencing. I don't know the guy who lives behind me but he seems rather odd. I don't know if I'll be able to get him to be responsible for half the cost of fence replacement even though that is the law in California. I was already stressing about the cost of the trip I want to take in April which includes a few days in Barcelona, then a cruise, then time in France. At least I can pretty much put all of that on a credit card but I feel guilty about it. This fencing problem could not have happened at a worse time.

We are having a little bit of a break in the rain right now and I think I see a patch of blue sky over the ocean. I hope you all have a good day.

  6. J/L, Sorry to hear the bad news about your fence. We have a block wall around our house for the very reason that you are concerned about. We lost a section of fence with every storm and our neighbor was mot cooperative about sharing the cost or the work to put it up. My Hubby would fix it every year and usually the day after it came down. One year he decided to wait to see if the neighbor would step up and fix it and he did, however he just used any boards he had and they didn't match or even cover the whole empty space, which meant our dog could go back and forth between our yards. My Husband got so pissed, he just decided we would build the wall and ask him to pay for a share of it. He didn't ask for half, he just said to pay whatever the insurance would have paid for the wood fence. The neighbor said he didn't want to turn it in because his premium would go up, so we paid for all of it. I cost $2000 and our insurance gave us about $200. About two weeks after the wall was done, we saw him taking a TV out of his truck and into his house. We figured it was probably paid for by his share of the insurance money! This is the same guy that has left his house vacant for almost 20 years and let homeless people live in his back yard!

We had rain and gusts of wind up to 60 mph here on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday, we had no rain, but still had wind. Some of the creeks have overflowed and the Cosumnes River and Mokulumne River have had some levee breaks and some streets in So. Sac are flooded. So far the American River (by me) is doing OK. Dean is watching it closely and I will go to his house if it gets too high. The area where he lives is a higher elevation than my neighborhood.

  8. Dianne, I am happy to hear that Kayla went to school. I pray she keeps it up. Is it still possible for her to graduate since she has missed so much?

  9. Mary, I hope you win big in LV. The weather should be better than your weather at home. How is your son Matt doing?

    ReplyDelete
  10. SacBarb, Matthew is still having back problems. He hates not working! He is waiting until he gets his W2s so he can show his lack of work in 2016 so he can get insurance and get his back operated on. If he would have sighed up for the Obama care in 2016, he would have had a $6,000 deductible since he was working. I hear now that the Govmt. is holding back on the W2s for low income peeps for some reason or other!

Dianne. I have not started my packing yet. It's only for a short time so there won't be a lot to pack.I really can't afford to gamble a lot. I need lots of luck lol!! I have been trying to keep up with Matthew's Dr bills which includes office visits, steroids shots,ex-rays,MRI, etc.
I feel bad that I couldn't send Mama Z anything, but family comes first here.

JustL, I have been having trouble sleeping lately. I need to clear out the spare bedroom again (Christmas junk) so Zoie and I can get a break from Jim's nightly shenanigans lol!!

Tonight I was in a baking mood, so baked cherry and pumpkin pies. The house smells great :)

  11. Hi everyone... not much going on here. Kayla has gone to school all week so for that I'm glad. Yes, she can still graduate in Amaya if she. continues going. Mary, I'm sorry your son is still having back issues. I hope he can get some relief soon. It sounds like a get away will be good for you. You are always lucky at those slot machines!! I think there is something to the idea of separate bedrooms..quieter and more stretch out room! Yum..I love both those kind of pies. I'm sure those will go fast in your house!

Barb, did you ever see Collateral Beauty.? What did you think? Barb and I loved it..my hairdresser hated it. I'm glad we don't have to worry about outside repairs where we live. We've had bad winds too.

Jl, sorry about your fence. Maybe you should get a wall like Barb did when the wind was causing issues. I was up at 6:30am today. I had a. 8:30 dr appt. I dont usually do them so early. It had no choice. I ended up loving it. I was the first one in waiting room so no wait..easy parking. I made my next six mo appt for the same time. I then went to the grocery store, picked up some breakfast and home by 10. I had a 1pm Lunch and another dr appt at 3. When I got there they said they'd been calling me as dr was out sick..pain in the butt!! I then went home and took a nap.

Barb in Wa...boy, you are sure getting the snow at your place. Are you liking it or is it reminding you of Colorado weather?

  13. Barb I'm looking at blue skies today. They say we are going to have nice weather until more rain arrives next Wednesday and Thursday. This is really a fortunate break as our ground is really saturated. When I walk on the front lawn it's as if I'm walking on a submerged sponge.

  14. Mary Your pies sound yummy. I wish I had a cook and baker like you living here. LOL I keep having thoughts of brownies dancing in my head and I'm pushing that thought away. I can't keep finding reasons to "indulge". I think sugar is kind of addicting to me. If I stay away from sweets, I don't crave them hardly ever but if I have something indulgent (especially chocolate flavor) then I end up craving more. I need a 10 step program. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dianne I haven't seen Collateral Beauty but I will look for it when it comes On Demand or Amazon.

Uh, oh. It sounds like you are on the verge of becoming a "morning person". Yesterday I woke up at 4:30 and tossed and turned until I got up at 6:00. Since I only had about 4 hours of decent sleep, I was really dragging yesterday. I just "stayed home and stayed ugly". I did manage to vacuum and do a couple of loads of laundry, though. I was able to sleep well last night so I'm feeling perkier.

Good news about Kayla. I hope she keeps it up even when Jake-ass is out of the clink.

  16. Barb.in.WA Are you sure you aren't still living in Colorado? Your pics sure look like it.

  17. Snowed and kept me home all day ..Not my cup of tea. I ended up not getting dressed and sleeping all day. I did make crock pot dinner this morning so Louis had a decent dinner. I didn't even eat today..too busy sleeping.

Where has everyone been? It's sure been quiet in the nest lately. Went to lunch with a friend yesterday and she ended up treating for my bday. I'm getting to celebrate for a long time.

Barb, didn't you go to movie this weekend? I'm thinking I saw it on fb.

Well, that's about it for me. Not too much to tell unless you want to hear my dreams...lol.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dianne, I did go to the show on Saturday with the Jennifers. Jenn B's birthday is Dec 29, but we can never celebrate close to the real date because of the holidays and her parents live in Fresno, so she is usually there for the week between Christmas and New Years. We went to see Sing, the animated movie. It was really cute and the characters were voiced by Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth McFarlane, Jennifer Hudson, and a bunch of others. There were a lot of good songs.

  19. Mary, Did your son work for a government agency? I thought he worked for an auto maker. They would be the one issuing the W-2. By law, employers have until January 30 to get W-2s to their employees.

  20. J/L, We have had no rain for about four days, but some of the streets that were flooded from the creeks and the Cosumnes River are still having some water issues. Luckily, that is all happening in South Sac, so it doesn't affect me. It has been bitter cold, though. Right now it is 36 degrees and it is midnight. It is supposed to drop lower by morning and tomorrow's expected high is 41. I know that is nothing compared to the folks in the East, but for me it is freezing.

I got a mani/pedi today and when I pulled into the parking space there was a little pick-up that was filled with snow over the top of the cab. The owner was in the shop getting her hair done and she drove down from near Tahoe and said that was just from the overnight snowfall. She said that quite a bit had already melted on the drive down. She left at 2:00pm and it still hadn't melted much more.

  21. Dianne You need to find some fun indoor activities so you will be entertained on some of these winter days. How about jigsaw puzzles? I love doing puzzles. Lani and I used to do puzzles together and we would chat away about stuff while doing them and usually had a lot of laughs, too. I haven't done one since she passed away. You must have really needed the sleep, though. I only do that if I'm really sick but there were days when I was a teenager that I would need to sleep the day away. Then I would feel great on the following day.

  22. Barb We finally had a chance to dry out but more rain is coming soon. Not sure if it's due tonight or tomorrow but I guess there are 3 systems coming between now and Sunday. They also said something about gusty winds which is what worries me. I hope I don't end up with more fence damage. The adjuster informed me that if I filed a claim on the damages from the last storm, my claim would be less than $20. Obviously, I'm not filing that. He estimated cost of fence at $2,538. Then he deducted $1,500 for depreciation. Then he reduced it by my $1,000 deductible. The claim would be just 50% of the remainder as neighbors are to pay the other 50%. Isn't that special?

I'm going to the movies tonight with my friends Jane and John. I'm not sure if we will see Fences or the comedy Why Him which I heard was very funny. I think John is hoping for the comedy but Jane and I like to see the movies that will be up for Oscars.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's been a very stormy day and we have two more storms coming between now and Sunday. I am not looking forward to finding out how much more fence damage I have.

We ended up seeing the comedy, "Why Him", last night and I'm glad we did. We laughed loud and often. It was good to just see a fun movie and escape from reality for a couple of hours.

  24. Hi...well, I finally started going through my winter clothes and getting rid of some of them. Gosh, so still have tags on them. Im doing a little each day. I got out yesterday and today. I had a good loss at WW today but then went to lunch. I'm so up and down. If I only would track!!
More snow is predicted the end of the week and then again next Tuesday. They say the storm is from California.....stop sending them here, please.

Jl, I've never been apuzzle person, even as a child. Ive been reading a lot but I don't want to read all day on these snow days. I really need to get out. I guess I'm living in the wrong state. Which movie did you end up going to the other night? I know tammy liked the comedy one. I'm hoping barb and I can go see La La Land on Saturday. I invited my friend and husband over Sunday to watch the Green Bay game as she's from there but they can't come. I was even "thinking" of making chili. I know Louis doesn't want to leave the house on Sunday with the playoffs on. Wow, that's not great on your fence. Will your neighbor help?

Barb,I'm glad the water is on the other side of town from you. I had my nails and ties done too. It was time to get that Christmas red off my nails. It always feels good after that appt. I'm not too crazy about animated shows.

Mary, are you in Vegas? I am so forgetful...

Went to dinner with kayla and em last night. She had to rush out to get a call from jake-ass. She told me she's has broken up with him but thinks he's really changing this time. Made me sick to my stomach to see her reaction. She goes back to counseling in Saturday and is still in school. She's mostly staying at her dads.

I'm enjoying my new adjustable bed elevating my legs and bending my knee.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jl, looks like we were typing at the same time. I think I'd like to see that movie too. Hey, these storms need to stop and sure quit sending them. Your rain and wind turns into a lot of snow here. We haven't had the wind at least this week. Today it was a sunny 60 snd very nice out. I like those no coat days.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dianne, I'm sorry we are sending you our bad weather, but we didn't ask for it either! I has rained for almost two days straight and the winds are bad again today. So many trees have uprooted and quite a few have fallen into peoples' homes or across busy streets and jammed traffic. We are known as the city of trees and we have quite a few that are close to 100 years old. It's sad to see those fall!

It's good that Kayla is going to school and I will pray that she continues to go. Rushing off to wait for a call from Jake-ass seems to me to be contrary to breaking up with him!

    ReplyDelete
  27. J/L, Is the rest of your fence still intact? Every time we have weather like this, I thank Bob for deciding to have the block wall built. I am so glad I don't have to deal with having a fence fixed. Pacifica hit our news again a few days ago. The story was about a traffic accident that closed one of the highways, I think it was Route 1. My memory isn't that good, so I could be wrong.

  29. Hi gals, I'm addressing you all together lol! I have been down with a nasty cold!
My head is throbbing and my nose is a dripping faucet! It is a gift from Jim!!
We leave for Vegas on Monday. I sure hope this crap has run its course by then!
I prolly won't mention too much on FB about our trip. Matthew gets nervous when I put it out there! Too many break ins. ....skooooze me I have to tend to my faucet.......
I am hoping to get my nails done tomorrow. Not too sure about it. I don't want to be far from my Kleenex! I am sure the gal doing my nails wouldn't appreciate my sneezing on her lol!!

btw, Dianne, I wish I had a dollar for every time my ex told me he had "changed!"

  30. Hi everyone....another beautiful weather day. I guess a little snow due tomorrow. I hope not much as I have a 9:30 dentist appt. I think I only have a couple of more and I'll be finally finished. Yippee!

Saturday going to movie with barb but no plans for Sunday and Louis wants to stay home and watch football. I think I'm going to take myself to see Patriot. My friend today said it was a very good movie and it will get me out of the house. I'll have Louis get me a reserved seat ahead and then there will be no backing out.

Mary, I sure hope you start feeling better before your trip. Not fun to be sick on vacation. How long will you be gone?

Barb, that's sad about the trees. I saw a picture you put on fb that looked really bad.

  31. Hello my dear Owls.

Last night Sharon and I went to see 'Under the Street Lamp' perform. They are a group of young guys that met when they played Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons in Jersey Boys, so they decided to form their own Doo Wop band. They play my kind of music - OLD!

My FIL has been battling a lot of health issues. He has been in and out of the ER about 8 times in the last year. Last night he he lost that fight. He was 91 years old and 90 of them were good. So he joins his wife, my Hubby and his brother, and all the other family members who passed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Barb I'm sorry about your loss. 91 years is a good run.

Last night was another night of heavy rain and winds. This neighborhood lost electricity several times during the evening and then for a few hours in the middle of the night. The winds in the trees on the mountain side made it sound like a train was coming through.

Something around here has been biting me for a week or so and it's definitely not fleas. These bites turn into welts. After researching it, I've decided they are No See-ums and, believe me, I don't see 'em until I start itching. My yard (and I'm sure many yards in this neighborhood) are almost swamp-like from all the rain and that's exactly what No See-ums like. They are really tiny and the bites last for a couple of weeks. I desperately need it to dry up around here. In the meantime, I need to get more cortisone cream to put on these bites to try and dampen the itchiness.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dianne Did you go see a movie yesterday? I'm interested in seeing Fences and Hidden Figures. At this moment I see some blue sky but more rain is on its way. Maybe if it's not too bad on Tuesday when my friends and I have dinner together, we might make it to the theater to see one of those. Do you have Amazon Prime? I just finished watching their original series, Sneaky Pete. It was soooo good. Thoroughly entertaining, great cast, and lots of surprising twists and turns in the story.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mary How are you feeling? I hope that most of that cold is gone so you can enjoy your trip to Vegas. Too bad we can't go somewhere together today. You could be sneezing and blowing your nose while I am furiously scratching at my bug bites. People would stay far away from us. LOL So, did you get that mani?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Helooo!

Justlin, lol, we sure would make a cute couple! I did get my mani.My nose behaved itself lol! Why does my nose always itch when I can't scratch it! OOPS sorry to mention itching lol!!! Keep using that cream!

Dianne,I am feeling better. My nose is sore from blowing and my ribs are sore from sneezing! Jim and Matthew are not doing as well, but then, they are smokers! Jim has been having a terrible time breathing! He still lights up after he makes it to his chair huffing and puffing! Matt at least is smoking less.
I made Jim stay home last night and I did the DJ birthday party myself. It was so foggy when I got out! I could barley see the hood of my Jeep! I went off the road a few times. I went by a small town and never saw it until just leaving it! I missed 2 of my turns so I turned on my navigator. Problem was, that when it told me to turn, I couldn't see "where to turn!" I had to back up twice! the curves were the worst!
I got past the curves and use my "hands free phone to call Jim to let him know I was alright...."no phone in vehicle!"Like the fool that I am, I drove back to get it! I swear it was worse going back! I retrieved my phone and made it home in one piece. Tonight the fog is just as bad! Thank goodness our flight isn't until 2:00 in the afternoon tomorrow!
    Have a great week everyone!!

Barb, my condolences on your FIL. He sounds like he had a good life for most of his years. 91 wow!
I love oldies too! Last night's birthday was for my sons MIL. She turned 70, so I got to play oldies all night!!

  39. Hi all.. Nice to see all of you on posting today. JL, I went to two movies this weekend. Barb and I went Saturday to see La la Land. It was ok. We gave it a 6-7. Today I went alone to see Patriot Day. Wow, what a movie about the Boston Marathon. I give it a 10. It was so interesting to see everything the police did through that whole few days. The older lady sitting next to me said to meat the end..."I'm from Boston and will always be a Bostonian". Then she got up and left! I think Louis and I will go to movies on Wednesday night. Our cheap movie theater is playing Hackshaw something about a guy in The war that did it without a gun. Heard it's good too and a true story. Louis really would like to see it and I kind of like war movies too. There are two other good movies coming up..one with Tim McGraw so I have to see that one and one with Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain and I forget who else playing three old guys that are going to rob a bank. It looks very funny

Mary, your fog trip sounds awful. I'm really scared of fog. I would rather drive in snow. Have a really good time in Vegas. I hope you can find a show to go see while you're there. If you were playing for my bday party I would want country.

Barb, so sorry about your FIL. Glad he had a good 90 years. Boy Barb, sounds like you are losing all your football teams. I guess next year you will be asking me to send you a Bronco shirt.

JL, yes I have Amazon Prime but have never watched a show on it. I don't even know how to do it. I have never heard of those kind of bugs. Do they come in your house? Now you have me scratching.

Tomorrow I have to go get blood taken for my physical next week. Yuck...I hope I get someone that can find the vein the first stick!! I'm doing pork ranch chops in the crockpot tomorrow too. My uncle and aunt are coming down from Greeley for a dr appt so I'm meeting them for lunch ..my treat. I usually go up there as it about and hour and a half away so whoever drives the other pays. It's also supposed to be sunny and 50 with snow from darn California on Tuesday.

  40. Whew..I sure wrote a lot. Kayla told her mom today that jake is her boyfriend again and she has to find a place for him to live when he gets out of jail. I'll be surprised if she finishes school. When tammy brought it up about Jake, kayla got up from lunch and went to the car.

  41. Well SOB! Our flight was cancelled! Prolly a good thing because Jim has kept me up all night with his coughing! I have not slept a wink and it's almost 8:00 am! He can barely catch his breath to talk! I am going to insist he goes to the Dr today! Better yet, I am going to call for an appt for him. I did reschedule our trip to next week. Now I have to cancel and rebook out hotel reservations. Could be tricky with Superbowl Sunday coming up! I have to call the kennel too! Oye Vey!! Good thing I forgot to cancel our newspaper and mail!
! Poor Zoie is pooped out too!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why was it canceled? Did u find out before u got to airport?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well hallelujah!! Jim called the Dr and made an appmt! He came back with a shot in the arm and a couple of prescriptions. He is doing so much better!! Matthew is still struggling, but also doing better. I have spent so much time taking care of them that I have not had time to feel sorry for me lol! I am a lot better.
Hopefully it will be a more restful night. If not, I am prepared to take Zoie and head to the spare room!
Hope you all are doing well!

  44. Dianne, I was awake most of the night, so I noticed when my cell lit up. I have the airline's app on there. I jumped out of bed and got on my pc. They had automatically put us on the next flight leaving late this evening and coming back very early Friday!!
Not a lot of time in Vegas! I was given the chance to change the dates for free, plus we got a couple of $100 vouchers good for a year. We are now going next Monday. We never heard why it was cancelled although we have been having heavy fog here.

  45. Hello HOOters. I will be going to Santa Maria on Friday for my FIL's funeral which will be on Saturday. He had made the arrangements for his funeral a number of years ago, so he had a book with specific requests. My three boys will be pall bearers along with his son-in-law and his daughter's son and grandson. Chad is trying to figure out the best way to get to Santa Maria. He may just have to fly to Sac and drive down with me and Dean's family. Flights from Seattle to Santa Maria fly south to Los Angeles, then back up to Santa Maria, which is about an hour north of L.A. Plus, it costs almost $500! Crazy! He will probably end up riding with us! We Will be coming home Sunday, as Dean and his wife have to go to work on Monday. My next door neighbor has graciously consented to feed my cats.

  46. Dianne, Sorry to-hear that Kayla is back with Jake-ass! Does she like being back in school? Maybe she will continue even after he gets out of jail.

  47. J/L, We had 60mph winds on Saturday throughout the night and my gardener found about 20 roof shingles around the yard. So, I called the roofing company to come out and take a look to see if I need to have it repaired. I need to check with my insurance company to see if it covers repairs. It may just be considered maintenance.

  48. Mary, it's probably better that you had to change your LV plans so hopefully you and Jim will both feel better and enjoy the trip better. Sorry that Matthew is recovering slowly. I have been keeping him (and the other Matthews) in my prayers.

  49. Dianne The insects that have been biting me are teeny tiny and fly so they can come in the house. I am in the habit of just leaving the door open when I go out on the back deck for whatever reason, so I've had to change that. Also, because we have a neighborhood skunk, I take the dog out on a leash to the front yard late at night to do her last business of the day. Walking on the lawn, I have probably gotten bitten while out there and maybe brought one in as a hitchhiker. I started spraying myself with Off and I have not gotten any new bites since then but I hate the smell of it even though the label says "unscented". I need for the ground to dry up and then these annoying pests will be gone.

For getting movies and shows on Amazon, you can get them on a Kindle Fire if you have wi-fi. You can get them on your TV if you have a "smart" TV. In that case, your remote will have a button on it to access internet options such as Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc. I only get the Amazon one as I don't pay to subscribe to the others.

  50. Mary I guess it all worked out for the best as now Jim and you both have a chance to feel better when you take your trip. Are you going on United Airlines? I think I saw on the news a few days ago about them basically cancelling all of their flights due to computer being out. What a headache for everyone involved, especially those poor workers at the airport who take the brunt of their customers' displeasure and frustration.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Barb Well, shoot! Sorry about your roof tiles. I see other fences down around town besides mine. Also, when there was a break in the rain I could hear chainsaws in the distance so I know there was tree damage, too. We had a lot of thunder and lightening during one night. It was continuous with less than a minute in between strikes. There was more thunder we were hearing in the evening a couple of nights ago and my poor dog was not happy about it.

It's a beautiful day today. Blue skies. We have a chance to dry out a little. Yay!

My daughter and I have committed to taking the trip in April. We will spend a few days in Barcelona then take a 7 day cruise that ends in Rome. We will then travel up to France and spend a couple of days or so in the countryside before traveling west to spend time in Paris. It's only money, right? LOL

  52. SacBarb,I am so glad we were cancelled! An added bonus is that Vegas will be sunny and warmer than this week :)
I can't believe the rain and winds you have been getting! Our roofs are built for that kind of weather, not sure yours are! Hope the repair bill isn't too bad!
I hope Chad will find an inexpensive way to get to the funeral. Airlines prices can be horrible! We don't go to Vegas unless we get a decent deal.
    Safe travels Barb.

  53. Chad arrives tonight at 10:15 and Dean is picking him up st the airport. We plan to leave for Santa Maria at 5:00 am. to avoid the commute traffic and we will come back to Sac on Sunday. I probably won't be online much while I'm gone, so have a nice weekend everyone and I will 'talk' to ya when I get back. <3

  54. Hi everyone..Barb, have a safe trip. Sorry it's a sad trip. You will be up bright and early tomorrow morning.

I have an 8am eye consultation for my upcoming cataract surgery. I sure don't like it that early but not much choice if I wanted this particular dr. Louis had him so he has liked him. Tomorrow night we are taking my sil to dinner. I'm even cooking some food for her tomorrow as my brother is in a rehab/nursing home right now, so it's been hard for her. Hope my cooking doesn't sje her sick.!!

My refrig yesterday smelled like a dirty diaper in it. Now, I keep my refrig cleaned out weekly. We couldn't figure out what it was....I finally found a package of chicken I just bought a couple of days ago was the culprit. It hadn't expired even. Well, I didn't want to put it in the garage trash so I went snd got gas this morning and threw it in their trash. It was nasty. I should have taken back tonstore but too stinky.

JL, I'm glad you've decided to go on your trip. What day do u leave? It sure sounds fun. I wish I could get around to do that kind of trip. So, will you be gone about two weeks or even more? I don't have a Kindle fire or smart TV. Can't I get them on my iPad? I did just purchase a little 9" portable DVD. I can watch a movie on my lap or bed. I don't know if I'll ever even use it but I had a gift cert so only had to pay $30 for it plus a case.

Mary, are you and Jim feeling better for your trip? What did dr say? I hope you enjoy yourself. Maybe now there will be a show to go and see. I see WILLIE Nelson had to cancel his Vegas shows this weekend because of health. He's almost 84 now.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dianne, I am glad I didn't buy advanced show tickets for last week because most are non refundable. I will see what shows are on when I get there. I think Dianna Ross may be there.
We are all feeling better, not 100%, but at least Jim isn't coughing as bad!
    I hate early apmts too!
Nothing smells worse than spoiled chicken! I wonder if the date had expired when you got it. I have "dropped stuff off" at the gas station when I didn't have garbage service lol!

    JLin, how is your itch?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dianne You should be able to get Amazon Video on your iPad. Go to your Amazon account and go to Amazon Video or Prime Video. There's a lot of movies to choose from as well as TV series and original things. I just finished watching their original series, "Sneaky Pete" and loved it. It's also where I binge watched seasons of shows I never caught when they were on TV, such as The Americans which is now one of my all-time favorite shows.

Nothing smells quite as bad as spoiled chicken. When I have fat trimmings or something else I'm afraid will get stinky before garbage pick up day, I wrap it up really well and stick it in the freezer until it's time to get it to the garbage can. Yesterday, I spent time clearing out the pantry of expired canned goods and got rid of some condiments that were in the refrigerator. I figure if I ever need it again, I can buy a new little jar of horseradish rather than use one that expired in 2014. LOL

  57. Mary I'm glad you will have warmer weather for your Vegas trip. I hope there are no big commotions and disturbances at your airports. Things were crazy yesterday.

It never occurred to me that maybe your roofs are put up differently than ours. I really don't know the answer to that. The last round of storms took down two more sections of my fence and knocked a couple of more boards out of other sections. I wrote a rather sarcastic email to the adjuster who had figured I would get $18 from insurance and told him about the additional damage and asked if that would get me another $18. He wrote back that he would recalculate if that's what I wanted to do and that he would be glad to help me in any way he could. I gave him the okay on that so he later wrote and asked "How does $471 sound after my deduction and splitting cost with neighbor". My reply was that it sounded a hell of a lot better than $18.

  58. Barb Thinking about you and waving a wing. I hope your trip home today is smooth.

  59. I forgot to mention that I saw Fences the other night. It is a serious movie and excellent. The acting is outstanding. I hope it wins the Oscar for Best Picture.

    ReplyDelete
  60. JL, glad insurance is straightened out to the good!

We made it to Vegas with no problems. An hour after getting there, I won over $1,500!! Yay me!
It was at a table game so no taxes!!

I hear Mich. is getting a snow storm tonight. I hope Matthew and Zoie stay warm. I worry about power outages!
I am loving the warm weather here and especially the sunshine!
    Later.....

    ReplyDelete
  61. Mary Wow! Congrats on the big win! What table game did you win on?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wow, Mary. That's a good haul and especially getting it so early. That gives you $$$ to play with. I'm glad you're both feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  63. J/L, I'm glad you got a better estimate for reimbursement from the insurance company. I have to call my insurance company. I lost a lot of tiles off my roof in that last storm and the roofer came today to check it out. I am going to need a new roof. The current one is about 25 years old. Uggghhhhh! He is going to send me an estimate, but he said ballpark amount is $9,000.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Barb The joys of home ownership! At least you've caught the problem before there was water damage. I don't know if insurance will help you out as they do deduct for depreciation but it never hurts to ask. Also, you should have more than one roofing company look at it and give you estimates. Also, ask about a senior discount. A lot of companies will do that but they don't bring it up. $900 is worth bringing it up.

    ReplyDelete
  65. JustL it's called "Let it Ride". Love it! That's how I won my big pot the last time I was in Vegas.

Having trouble writing o my iPhone I'll try later

  66. Dianne, We did get out of here at 5am and after we got gas, stopped at the money wall (ATM) and Starbucks, finally got on the road at 5:20 and arrived in Santa Maria around noon. We got home Sunday night about 8:00 pm. Chad and I were staying in the same hotel room and about 2:30 am Sunday we were awakened by a banging on the wall between our room and the room next door. It lasted until 4:00. Apparently, someone was having a good time. It was very awkward listening to that with my son in the other bed. When we went to my father-in-law's to say good-bye to everyone before leaving town, Chad was telling some of his cousins about the people next door and he said he didn't know whether to complain about them or applaud! Chad does have a wicked sense of humor!

    ReplyDelete
  67. J/L, I will get more than one estimate. The guy that came over today was from the company that replaced the roof when we had it done 25 years ago. The owner was a friend of ours and our boys' went to school together and were friends. All our kids were in Little League together and we parents were all heavily involved as coaches, board members and scorekeepers. But the boys are in charge of the business now. I don't hold out much hope for the insurance to pay for any of it, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi...glad to see you are home safely, Barb. It would be kind of weird to have that experience with your son there. Lol. U should have knocked back on the wall. That's a good idea about a senior discount. I wouldn't have even thought of it for a roof. I hope ins comes thru with something for you.

Mary, you are one lucky gambling lady!! Seems like you always win. Did you find any shows to go to while you're there? I hope so.

JL, have you found out anymore on your fence? I go to WW once again tomorrow. Are you still doing it? I went for my annual physical today and we once again talked about weight. My sugar level was up more than usual and that makes me very nervous after watching everything my brother is going through. I'm going to "try" and cut back on my sodas. I hate diet so I guess I'll go to water. I'm going to alternate like people drinking do for awhile. I go back in three mos and I want to get that back down. It's a three month blood test.

Went to dinner with the girls tonight. I'll be surprised if kayla finishes school. She doesn't talk like it and she only has three mos to go. She's talking daily to jake "trying to work things out." She left dinner for 15 min for a jake phone call. I was not happy. Nothing with her will surprise me.

Had my cataract appt on Saturday but all eye tests. I have to go back for a consultation, if they ever call. On Sunday we went to my youngest grandson's two basketball games. We lost but at least got to see two of the boys and Todd and Liane. I hadn't seen them since before Christmas.

We are having weather in the 60's and loving it. I even had the car washed as no snow predicted in the new future.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hi, HOoters! There's nothing much going on here except that it's raining again. Nothing is happening with the fence, so far. I will wait until all this rain is over and things dry up a little bit.

Last night I went with friends to see "Hidden Figures". It is a really good movie and good story. I really admire those women and the challenges they faced.

My daughter and I have been getting things lined up and confirmed for our trip. We will be gone from April 12 to April 30. We will spend a few days in Barcelona before getting on the ship for a 7 day cruise. The cruise stops at Cartagena, Gibralter, Toulon (for Provence), Genoa, Florence/Pisa, then ending in Rome (Civitavecchia). There is a day at sea between Gibralter and Toulon which I will probably really appreciate as my daughter is going to be running me ragged with all of our planned tours and outings. We have also signed up for debarkation tour so we can see the colosseum, etc., before we get on a flight to Basel, Switzerland. That airport is actually on the border with France and we will rent a car there and drive to the town of Colmar in the French countryside. We will be there a few days then take a train to Paris where we will stay for 4 nights. France, and especially Paris, is the only thing I really have on my bucket list as my dad's father came from there in 1907. I'm starting to get excited.

  70. Hi gals! I am back home! It was in the mid 20s when we arrived! The hi-way was good, but the side roads getting home, were iced over in many places. I had to make a gross-ery run. We have a wedding tomorrow and are expecting bad weather next week. I just don't want to have to go out again until spring lol!

Wed. Jim and I were on our way to our room and decided to try the poker machines. I hit a royal flush which was $1,000! I I told Jim to look at my machine. He was happy for me, but I am sure sad for him lol! Well, a couple of minutes later he told me to look at his machine...he also won $1,000!! Unbelievable! None of our winnings were enough to make out a tax form, so a bonus there! It sure was nice coming home a winner!

JustLin, I am so jealous of your upcoming trip!! I have been to a few of those places, but would do it again in a heart beat! I wish I would have seen Barcelona while in Spain. I did see the Parthenon and the castle where Christopher Columbus stayed.
There is an awful lot of walking involved, so you better start getting your legs in shape lol!

Dianne, I never did see any shows. I have seen so many, nothing looked enticing to me. I was sad to see Dianna Ross was going to be there next week. Just missed her again :(

SacBarb, oh my! I would have had a hard time (no pun intended)not LOL at the whole bed bouncing, wall knocking, passion entertainment!!!

I am breaking with tradition and NOT washing our cloths until tomorrow lol! We had an early flight and are both all pooped out!
Zoie sure was happy to see us! Jim will pick up Queenie tomorrow. I am wondering if she will be any different after having playmates all week.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mary I've never known anyone as lucky as you when it comes to gambling. I guess it was a good thing that your first flight was cancelled. Not only did that give Jim a chance to feel better, but you may not have been in the right place at the right time for those winnings.

I know it's going to be a lot of walking on our trip so I need to build up my endurance. It's not raining today so I guess I'll be walking the dog. I'll have to time it right, though. I don't really care who wins the Super Bowl but I'd like to see the commercials and half-time show. At some point, I'm going to be putting a rack of baby back ribs in the oven. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Okay....So, the wind was really starting to pick up so I decided to go ahead and walk the dog before it got worse. I decided to take a different route than my usual one. I'm walking along on the sidewalk and just as I approach where a driveway is sloping down into the street, I stub my toe on something, stagger on the sloping driveway, and then tumble into the street. LOL I rolled over on my back for a couple of seconds. The dog (I'm still holding the leash) is looking around nonchalantly as if to say, "Nothing to see here, folks". There was no one around to witness this unless someone happened to be looking out their window. Surprisingly, I did manage to get up without needing to crawl over to the curb for support. I guess I should start taking my phone with me on these walks around the neighborhood, just in case. I'm going to have a decent size bruise on my left hip and maybe my left knee, too.

    ReplyDelete
  73. JL, !!!! Not a good way to start your pre vaca walking exercising! I always take my cell with me, even when I walk on our back property. I also take my walking stick to keep my balance. I sure hope you don't have any lasting effects!
I don't care which team wins ether. I have my kitchen tv on, but not really paying much attention to the game. I did sit and fold laundry during the halftime show. I like Gaga, but Bruno is more to my liking ll!!

We are expecting bad weather starting Tues. night. I probably won't make my monthly lunch with my old work friends :(. I really look forward to it.

I have a hair appmt. on Fri, so hope the weather is better by then. I's drive into Lansing about 30 miles.

BTW, Queenie has changed for the better since her being at the kennel while we were gone. She is a lot calmer. I guess she had a lot of playmates and play time. I will have to take her there again for a few hours.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hi everyone...Mary, sounds like you had a good productive time in Vegas. What r u going to,spend all that $ on..something fun? Hope I get to go to your luncheon. We are having Spring like weather the last week and this week so your bad weather isn' t coming from here. We will pay in April and March. Mary, you would love our casinos...no smoking allowed. I thought when I was in Vegas it wasn't too bad though.

JL, always take your phone. Are you ok now. One of my biggest fears...falling. I wouldn't have been able to get up. Be extra careful!! Your trip sound like so much fun plus all the daughter time. I couldn't do a trip with all that walking anymore. You're going to be gone for a long time. What's the weather over there around that time? Did you end up watching gbthe Super Bowl? We went to a friends house and kind of talked thru it until that last quarter when it became an exciting game. I wanted the Falcons to win. What an end to a game! We ate too much but it was fun.

I had my annual physical and my blood pressure and sugars were up. Ive now turned to water over soda. I don't like diet and was drinking a lot of Pepsi. I'm limiting myself to one a day now. I'm not nuts about water but watching my brother scares me so I'm bound and determined to get it back down. I also had to get a blood pressure machine to keep track for a month. I already take meds for it so it's a little concerning to me. It's probably all my family issues!!

My middle grandson was accepted to a private Catholic school today so that's very exciting. He's a great kid.

Well, that's about it. Went to see Hidden Figures snd it was a really good movie. Boy, those women went through a lot to succeed st their jobs.

Hope everyone is doing good. Hi Barb...what's new.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hi, HOoters! Well, we had a very noisy and blustery night. The storm was raging all night long and has finally calmed down to being normal rain. I don't appear to have any trees down. I can't see all of the fence line to see if any more has gone down. Late last night I was preparing for bed and realized I had left my Kindle in the car from when I took it to lunch with me. I already had my robe and slippers on but seriously considered putting on shoes and a coat over my robe and going out in the storm to get it. I love to lie in bed and read before going to sleep. I decided against that idea and just went to bed, cold turkey. LOL

The results of my fall the other day is that I have bruising on my left hip, my left shoulder is sore, and my upper back is kind of sore. I guess the back thing is from the seizing up of muscles as I tried to regain my balance. There is no bruising on my knee even though it hurt at the time I hit it. Lesson learned, "Watch where you're going". LOL

My friends and I are supposed to go to see La La Land tonight. We'll see how the weather holds up. It's a bit of a walk from the parking garage to the theater.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hello....today is my anniversary...14 years. We went out for a nice dinner tonight. Two of our great friends showed up to surprise us with a drink and a special dessert. It was a really fun surprise. We got married in a Vegas 14 years ago with quite a nice turnout of friends. One even came as Elvis to the reception and I had no idea it was her. Fun!!

We are really having the winds here. I don't like it but at least the temp is warm. Maybe 70 tomorrow but possible light snow on Sunday. I think we got your wind JL.

JL, did you go to the movie? What did you think? How are your bruises and pain doing? I hope it's less pain now. I don't have any movies planned for this weekend. We will go to some grandson basketball games.

Barb, where the heck are you? Missing your updates.

Mary, glad to see you made it to your luncheon today. I like when predicted snow doesn't come too!!

I finally got my whole winter closet cleaned out as I wanted to give the clothes to Barbs sister. She's in a nursing home and needed some updated clothes. Some of mine still had the tags on them. Barb said she was like a kid in a candy store. I'm so glad they worked out for her.

Not much more here. Louis gave me a very pretty necklace and earring set. Very sweet.

    Check in hooters.

    ReplyDelete
  77. OK, that was my mini check-in LOL!!

Dianne, I was so glad I was able to go t y retiree friends lunch. There was quite a show of friends. You never know, with all the snowbirds gone.
Congrats on your Anniversary! Ours was Jan 22. We were married in Vegas 38 yrs ago, with no Elvis lol!

JL, is you body still tender from the fall? Have you thought of getting a massage, by some Swedish guy named Svenn or Bruno? :)

Barb, I have been wondering about your roof. I hope you are staying dry with all the rain you have been getting!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Here I am Dianne. Sorry I've been MIA. I am suffering through a Fibromyalgia flair and have been spending a lot of time trying to nap/sleep. I don't get much sleep at night because my upper arms have been hurting. I have been using some essential oils, and they help, but they don't last long. I have decided I need to go back to the doc and ask about pain meds. I have resisted taking them because they have soooo many side affects. I am hoping that in the past few years they have developed something new that has fewer side affects.

I wish I was as disciplined as you about going through my closets. I have tons of clothes I should be donating. I kept thinking I would get into them again, but even if I do, they will be so out of style.

    ReplyDelete
  79. J/L, You should definitely take your phone when you take the dog for a walk or even if you walk without the dog. You never know when you may need it. I have a little pouch thing that fits over the waistband of my pants and I take my phone and my ID whenever I go for a walk. I also take my cane because sometimes the terrain is uneven and I use it for balance. I hope your bruises heal quickly and have no lasting affects.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mary, I agree with J/L. You are the luckiest person I know when it comes to gambling. When Sharon and I go to Vegas in May, I probably won't be gambling much. I usually take about $100 and when that's gone, I am done!

Good for Queenie for calming down a bit. My son takes his dog to doggy day camp one or two days a week so he can get some social time with other dogs. Also, since they are gone at work all day and stays in a crate, they like to give him some freedom. They do take him to a dog park often too.

  81. It looks like we have lost Jodi. :(

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think we have lost Jodi. It makes me sad and she tells me she's just busy. I sure miss her. There are five of us so no straying if we can get a Barb in Wa back more.

Barb, so sorry you've been feeling bad. I think you should look into some pain med for relief to at least sleep. It's sure. It fun to hurt.
When in May do go to Vegas? Are you going for a show? I forget. Take care of yourself so you will feel good to go. I think homeless people would like your out of date clothes ..think of it that way.

Mary, sounds like a fun lunch. I love my friend lunches. Boy, 38 years is a long time. 14 seems kind of long to me. Guess I'll never hit the 50th! Happy late Anniversary. Are you celebrating Valentine's Day.? We will do an easy dinner Tuesday night and something else another night when it's not so crowded.

    JL, are you doing ok?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dianne We did go to see La La Land the other night and I'm still thinking about it. I wasn't sure if I would like it or not and was still on the fence about it at the beginning of the film. However, I then got totally hooked into the characters and by the end I was very emotional about it. Yes, I did like it and it gave me something to think about long after it was over. I will be rooting for it for the Best Picture Oscar.

It sounds like you had a nice evening to celebrate your anniversary. How fun that your friends showed up and surprised you. Now you have a Valentine dinner to look forward to. I miss having a sweetie to celebrate special days with. My married friend, John and Jane, who I having dinner with on Tuesdays every week, have asked me to join them that night for a nice dinner and maybe another movie. I feel like a third wheel on a holiday like that but they assure me that I won't be wrecking anything. Anyway, it will be nice for me to have something to do that night.

I think you're right about Jodi. It makes me sad that she doesn't stop by anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Mary No massages for me. I don't want strange hands touching me. I have some ugly bruising to show for my fall but nothing hurts me. Falling in public is always embarrassing, though, even when no one sees you.

My daughter and I will be doing some gambling on the cruise ship. I wish one of us was even half as lucky as you are.

That's nice that you still get together with your former co-workers. You all must have felt like an extended family for you to still like each other enough to meet for lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Barb How's your roof doing? It was quite stormy again last night and today. So far, I don't have additional fence damage and am glad no trees have come down. We are going to get a chance to dry out for a bit but another storm system will be hitting us next Thursday.

I'm so sorry about your fibromyalgia. Please check with your doctor about getting something to give you relief.

I have one bag of my clothes and one bag of toys that the grandkids have outgrown that I am going to have Parca pick up when they come around next Tuesday. Thanks for reminding me about that.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Dianne, Sharon and I are going to see Cher in Vegas. We probably won't go to any other shows since we paid $300 each for the tickets.

    ReplyDelete
  87. J/L, the last round of weather took some more tiles off the roof, but so far there are no leaks. I am going to get a couple more bids because his ball park figure was way off. The estimate came in at $12,000 and if I want to have the end caps like I do now, it will be another $1,000. So, my gardener gave me a couple of names from his contacts and I will call them.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Mary, Happy belated Anniversary. Are you planning a big Valentine's celebration?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Barb, no Valentine celebrations here. My Hubby has to be the least romantic man ever lol! He is not much on Anniversary or Birthdays either. If I ask, he will take me out to dinner. Roofing prices sure are bad in your area! I don't think we paid over $6,000 and we have double roofs! We did have a friend do it, so that helped.
I saw Cher many years ago. I loved it!
The most I have paid for a show was $600, that was for close up seats for Paul McCartney. It was so worth it!

JLin, You are right about my co workers. We were like family. I saw more of them then(than?) my own family! Sadly, that it still true to this day as far as my sisters and brother. We are just too scattered around :(

Dianne,Yes, our owl's nest is shrinking :(. I am in for the long haul lol!

Barb in WA, and Hodi, I know your lives are way busier than ours, but can you just poke your little owl's heads in once in a while? I miss Shirley too :(

  90. Hi....MARY, do u do anything for Jim's bday, etc? I'm more of a romantic I think than Louis but he's pretty good. I have to plan dinners out but he's good with cards and gifts and even flowers from time to time. He brought flowers home this week for our anniversary and Valentines Day. Oh no, we are not combining them!! Lol. I still see my comeorkers too. We were very close and I'm glad I keep in touch with them.

Barb, I have no idea the price of roofing but that does seem like a lot. I think I'd pay a lot for a ticket but wow Mary...not $600...maybe $300. I think that will be a fun show, Barb. I think we paid $200 foe Celine it heck, that was ten years ago. It was worth it too. We just got Tim and Faith tickets for $106. I was surprised how reasonable and for good seats too

JL, that's nice that you and your friends go to dinner and movies. I wouldn't pick that show for best movie but I do think it will win. I think Hidden Figures is also up for it and I liked that better. I love to go to a good movie. We try to in life my friend Barb but she won't go very often with us. We love having her join us.

Tonight went to my grandsons game and we lost by a point in ot. He was very disappointed. We all went to Chili's afterwards and my dil parents joined us so there were nine of us. It was fun because we never get to go out with my son and family much. All three boys were there too. We are going to more tomorrow for my other grandson. Wow..get to see the kids two days in a row. I'm glad.

  91. Hi....well, weekend is over. Everyone have a good one? We ended up having no snow and nice weather. Went to two games today and that's about it. I read all my info on cataract surgery that I'm having in March on both eyes. I'll be finishing up with the whole dental procedure then too. I started it on sept 15...quite a process.

I'm drinking water like crazy and about floating away. I'm not a water drinker but have become one.

Well, nothing else new since I wrote last night. Hope all are well.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Dianne Well, nothing going on here. I did take the dog for a couple of walks and managed to stay upright. LOL I did take my phone with me, just in case.

That's good that you are drinking more water and less soda. I find Coke to be fairly addictive for me. I love the stuff and could get carried away with drinking it. I would gain weight doing that, though, and colas are not good for your kidneys. Although my kidneys are okay now, they are borderline to being not so fine so I am supposed to limit things like cola and salty stuff, etc. I'm not so good about limiting salty foods.

  93. Barb Well, I just looked up what I paid for my roof a couple of years ago and was surprised to see that it was $12,000. My faulty memory was thinking it was about $6,000 but that's because I paid for it with two payments. Anyway, everything is expensive here because it's the Bay Area but my house is not as big as yours so maybe $12,000 is a good deal for you. Mine did include all new gutters and downspouts and vents in the roof. Mine also included about a $1,000 "good neighbor discount" as the owner of the company lives down the street from me.

Saturday was absolutely gorgeous here. We had a beautiful deep blue sky and not a cloud in sight. Yesterday and today, though, our sky is grayish with marine layer. We have more rain on the way on Thursday and will last for a few days. I am so glad we at least have 5 days to dry out.

  94. Mary The most I ever paid for tickets was $350 each to see the Rolling Stones and that was for bleacher seats. It wasn't in the nose bleed section but they were medium range as far as price goes. To me it was worth it as I figured it was a once in a lifetime thing to be able to go. This was in 2005. My husband was 17 years older than me and it really wasn't his thing but he was such a good sport to spend the money to go to something he really didn't want to go to. LOL

Back in the 70's, there was a female impersonator show doing a run in S.F. called French Dressing. I never saw Cher live but the guy who impersonated her and Bette Midler was absolutely fabulous. I saw the show several times and it was so much fun. Years later, I was watching a documentary about female impersonators and cross dressing, etc., called Paris is Burning. The guy who I had seen as Cher and Bette was in it, to my surprise. His name was Kenny Sasha (sp?). I will never forget him as he joked around with my mother and I from the stage. He was a riot as Bette. Anyway, at the end of the documentary, there was a notation that Kenny died of AIDS. I felt so sad about that.

  95. Dianne, I used to get Jim a card, candy etc, but quit when I didn't get anything in return! It's just the way he was brought up I guess. His brother's are pretty much the same.

JL, I would love to see the Rolling Stones, even at their advanced age lol!
I have been to Female impersonator shows in Vegas a few times. Cher and Bet Midler are popular to imitate. They sure were good!!

We are have a warm snap here. We are still a bit muddy from all the snow melting, but the recent sunshine should help dry the ground up. Our winds have been horrible, but I think that also helps us dry up.

It's kind of a boring week so far. "grossery" shopping is about as exciting as I have gotten so far!

    Later.....

  96. Our news has been all about the Oroville spillway and now they are putting big rocks in huge bags in there to shore it up. Helicopters are hauling these huge bags with the rocks and hopefully it will stop the spillway. 180,000 people have had to evacuate. Four days ago Gov. Brown declared a state of emergency and requested Federal funds but Trump has not responded yet. I guess he is punishing us because Gov. Brown wants Cali to continue be a sanction state for immigrants. We may be on our own!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Barb Trump is a vindictive, childish, SOB so I would not count on help from him. So different than Obama who really was President for all the people and was always there to help in a crisis, regardless of the politics.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mary Your Jim and I would not have gotten along. My Jim was very good about things like Valentine's Day, birthdays, etc. In fact, he was good about bringing me flowers for no reason at all. I really appreciated that about him.

I did some grocery shopping today, too, and also ran some other errands like getting gas. I don't have to get gas that often because I drive a Prius and I don't travel around much. The exciting thing for me today was that I went to Kohl's to look for a new pair of jeans and I got that plus 4 tops, a necklace, and a electrical plug adapter set for my trip in April, and I got all of that for $126! Score! The jeans were on sale for $18 and I had a 30% off coupon for everything, which brought the jeans down to $12 and I had a $5 coupon, too. It was a good day for shopping.

  99. J/L, You are so right about #45! (I am going to quit calling him by name.) He is childish and I bet he even stomps his foot when no one is looking. If Obama had done only one of the things 45 has done there would be such an outcry from the Repubs it would echo from coast to coast! As for Melania, who is supposed to host the wives of foreign dignitaries, she didn't plan anything or have anyone else plan anything for Japanese Prime Minister Abe's wife, but she was on her own for the whole visit. Normally, the First Lady plans visits to places of interest in the Capitol and gives some history and a tour of the White House. So not only is #45 a total embarrassment to the U.S., so is his wife!

  100. Hi....well, I'm not going to get into politics as there is so much on FB regarding it. So......I'll just say Happy valentines Day to all of you.

Today is the day the Jake-ass got out of jail. Kayla went to pick him up. they are at a hotel for a couple of days.
And then who knows what. We are praying she stays in school.

We went to Outback for r our Valentines dinner last night. We met tam and em at steak and shake tonight. It was so sweet, Emilee brought flowers to her mom and I..very thoughtful. I spent two hours at Apple today trying to get some things figured out on iPad and phone. I thought I'd never get out of there.

Barb, is that water and dam issue near you? I hope not. Stay safe. I worry about you.

JL. I love coke too..actually Pepsi best. I hope I show a loss tomorrow not drinking soda all week. It's not too bad drinking the water and now I'm carrying it in my car!!

Mary, did you go out to dinner tonight or cook? I think I would have gotten a pizza.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi....how about we make a deal? I was just talking to Mary and let's do no politics on blog. FB is so overwhelming that it's nice to quietly come here. I don't mean to offend anyone I just think this is a good "safe" place. Is that ok?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Dianne That is A-okay with me. Sorry I brought politics into the blog. I wasn't thinking.

That was nice of Em to bring flowers to you and Tammy. How is it that Kayla and Jake-ass can afford a hotel room? I sure hope she's on birth control pills.

I had a lovely night last night with my friends, Jane and John. We had a really nice dinner at a small Italian restaurant that I've never been to before. The food was delicious. We then went to the movies and saw Lion which was very good and had us all in tears at the end. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  103. Barb I understand that the rains are supposed to start again tonight but the way things are looking, it may start this afternoon. I always want to get my errands completed before it rains. You'd think I believe I'd melt if I got wet. LOL Since we expect rain to last for a few days, I was thinking of getting the fixings for a chili recipe that WW has on their website.

I bought my dog a new toy for Valentine's Day but forgot to give it to her. I'll tell her today is the holiday. She won't know the difference. LOL It's a stuffed animal toy with squeakers in it which she loves to disembowel and rip the squeakers out. It makes a mess but she has such fun with it. The limbs stay around for a while and we play "keep away" with them. Anyway, the first one I got her was a monkey so she knows it as "Monkey Man" and no matter what kind of animal version I buy, it is still called "Monkey Man". So for Valentine's Day, they had a pink one with a red heart on it so that's her Valentine present. She also enjoyed the leftover pasta I brought her last night. She's not spoiled much (as she has gone back to bed on my bed after eating her breakfast). LOL

  104. Howdy.....

Jl...well, Kayla had $130 saved and the grandma collected some more. He's already telling her she can't go back
to school. Wonder how that will work out. W tuslly, I think both girls are on birth control pills. I Celebrate every month when they tell me they have cramps! I'm not familiar with that movie. What's it about and who is in it? I think your dog sounds very spoiled. I went to pick up an item st the dr office today and the girl was telling me her old dog had diabetes so she cooked for it every day. I told her I might move in with her and she laughed and said she didn't know if I'd like her dog stew!

That same person was telling me cinnamon was good for diabetics. Have any of you heard that or not? It would be worth a try if it worked.

I made our airfare for our cruise in June and the price is ridiculous. I like to pick our seats with my leg issues, etc. I think it cost as much as a cruise....well almost.

Let me know how that chili turns out. I gained a dang pound today and that makes me mad with all the water I'm drinking.

  105. Dianne Lion is the true story of the little 5 year old Indian boy who got lost in India, was stuck on an empty train for days and landed in the streets of Calcutta many miles from his home. He didn't know the name of the town he was from nor his mother's name. It is a very harrowing story but after spending time on the streets he lands in an orpahnage and is adopted by an Australian couple (Nicole Kidman plays the adoptive mother). 25 years later he starts searching for his birth mother. It's a really good movie and story.

I haven't heard that about cinnamon. My daughter is diabetic and she's never mentioned it. Hers is controlled with proper

  106. Just popping in for a minute. I will catch up on posts later.
I was supposed to take Zoie to get groomed at 2:00. I was going to have my nails done while waiting for her. I knew my school friend's Mother had passed away, but I never saw funeral arrangements... until this morning! The funeral was going to be at 3:00 today!
I hurriedly changed Zoie's appmt and will take her in on Fri.
The service was beautiful, but sooo long! She was a piano teacher, in the top 10 in the nation in her college years. I remember sitting in their living room watching the tiny tv screen. The kids were only allowed to watch certain shows. That day it was chamber music! I have to admit, she taught me to enjoy all types of music. She pushed her kids hard, but they turned out to be very talented. My girlfriend is an awesome singer, pianist, always first chair with her French horn, and turned out to be a teacher. She's retired now and does taxes and leads her churches choir. Her Mom was 94 and pretty wiry until the last couple of years when dementia showed up. . She still kept her sense of humor.
I stayed for the late luncheon and talked with old school friend. Now I am pooped and ready to hit the sack.
    Later....

    this may post twice...

  107. Mary Wow, you had a long and tiring day. It sounds like your friend's mother had a long and and well lived life, making a positive difference in the lives of many others. I hope you get some good rest tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Zoie and I got our nails did today. :). I feel so bad for her! She either has a very bad cold or it's her sinuses. She sneezes a lot and has a tiny wheezing sound. She has been eating ok and otherwise still her old self. I'm trying allergy meds. If she doesn't improve over the week end, I will take her to the Vet. We have a pending appointment.

I have to run...gottah pick up a pizza...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Mary, My Tara kitty has allergies and sneezes a lot. She has done this since she was a tiny kitten and allergy meds do not help. It doesn't seem to affect her otherwise, though. It's not funny when I am holding her and she sneezes in my face.

  110. J/L, It has rained for two days and the wind has been blowing off and on. Today the power went off and I assume the wind blew something down to cause that. It was out for less than an hour, so I was happy about that. Before the drought, when we had a big storm, I have been without electricity for as much as four days. I keep Presto logs on hand for such occasions and I sleep in the living room near the fireplace. I just got an alert on my phone that heavy rains could lead to Don Pedro Reservoir in Stanislaus County going over capacity on Monday or Tuesday. That would be very bad for the dairy farmers there.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Dianne, Sorry about the political post. You are right, this should be a safe place!

Maybe Kayla will realize how controlling Jake is now that she has had a taste of her old life back, even though it was brief. It probably won't be long until Jake gets in trouble again and maybe they will lock him up for a longer time!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Barb, we can only hope. I don't know if it's right to pray for Jake to go to jail! They will be out of hotel and homeless as of tomorrow. We shall see what happens to them. Andy and Wendy offered them to live there until Kayla graduates and Jake can get a job but he doesn't think he wants to go there. Piece of crap....he has nowhere else to go. We haven't lost power this winter but it's been very mild so far.

JL,,I think that movie Is just coming here. It sounds pretty good. Did you say you saw Fences? Guess Barb and I won't go to movie this weekend. Actually, there is not much playing. She and I will get together she on Monday as she's off for the holiday.

We are still having Spring weather. I know the snow is just around the corner. Mary...for you too!! This time we are getting it from California.

So Mary, pizza for dinner. We went to Chilis as we have gift cards. I like their 2 for $22.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Mary How's Zoie doing with that sneezing? I'm glad you have an appointment for her. It's possible that she sniffed up a small piece of grass or something.

Do you ever make chicken tortilla soup? I've had it so many different ways and the different versions are all so good. I suppose it's an Americanized Mexican dish.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Barb Sorry, but I did laugh at Tara sneezing in your face so I guess it is a little bit funny. :)

Well, we've got more rain coming. Yesterday the sky was gray but otherwise okay. I was glad as my son, grandkids, and daughter all came down and I'd just as soon they not be driving in a storm. My daughter's drive takes a little over an hour but my son's took 2 1/2. He drove by fields that are now flooded. All this rain is sure causing problems. This is truly too much of a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dianne Yes, I did see "Fences" and it was very good. I will be rooting for Denzel Washington to win Best Actor and Viola Davis to win Best Supporting Actress. Last night I watched "Arrival" On Demand which I thought was good but not as good as other movies I've seen in the Best Picture category plus it was a bit confusing. "Hacksaw Ridge", "Manchester by the Sea", and "Moonlight" are all going to be available to rent On Demand on the 21st so I guess I'll try to binge watch all of those since the Oscars is happening on the 26th.

I made the WW recipe for Turkey, Bean, and Vegetable Chili and it is very good. It has quite a kick to it. I got a lot of meals out of it so It's a good thing that I liked it.

I guess Jake-ass doesn't know if he wants to stay and Andy and Wendy's because he'd actually have to adhere to some kind of decent behavior. It's very generous of them to make the offer, especially since Jake-ass already stole from Kayla's mother.

    ReplyDelete
  116. J/L, Actually it is funny when Tara sneezes in my face. It makes me laugh, too. I feel badly for her because sometimes she has quite a sneezing fit when she sneezes multiple times in a row. I think that happened when you and Lynn were here. I asked the Vet about it and she said I could give her an antihistamine but it didn't help her and, if you could believe this, it made her lethargic and sleep more. Cats already sleep 2o hours a day, but she wouldn't even play when she was awake. So, since it doesn't really seem to bother her, I quit medicating her. When she has one of those multiple sneeze fits, Mellie always comes running over to her and stays really close to her.

I guess we all prayed too much for rain, and now we are having flooding. It is feast or famine with water!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Dianne, Where did Jake and Kayla decide to stay after their money ran out. I assume it has run out. Has Kayla gone to school or did Jake make her quit?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Mary, when Zoie gets her nails done, do they polish them too? Do you both get the same color? That would be cute!

    ReplyDelete
  119. SacBarb, no Zoie doesn't get hr nails painted. She is not that patient! lol!
I wonder if Indians have a "no-rain dance lol! Our ground is pretty saturated from all the snow that melted. We have mud, but no mud slides! I hope you all get a break soon!

JL, I canceled Zoe's appointment. She is much better! I gave her half doses of Benedryl and changed her food. Not sure which did it, but she is all better now :)

Dianne, We are have great weather here. We have a few more nice days, then the temps take a dive! It was nice sweeping out and cleaning my side of the garage. I took down all the stings of Christmas lights. We still need to pick up many dead tree branches. It's hard to keep up with 4 acres!

I have been trying to talk Jim into getting rid of his old (not antique) roll top desk. It is big, heavy and takes up a lot of room in our spare bedroom. I asked him him again last week, and to my surprise he said "what would you replace it with?". Bam! as soon as he went bowling, Matthew and I emptied out the drawers and dragged that sucker to the garage lol! I have a smaller desk coming tomorrow :)

  120. Hi.. Barb, yes Kayla's money ran out by Saturday. Andy and Wendy offered them to move in their house. Kayla to graduate and Jake to get a job. Andy will take them everywhere plus Kayla has all the classes to start and court next month from her escapade last month. She still has her license but no car as it was totaled. They had to "think it over" and finally on Saturday agreed to moving in there for now. I sure wouldn't have let them. Jake wants Kayla to do online school and she has a now missed a week of school. She meets with counselor tomorrow. I personally will be surprised if she graduates. Tammy already ordered cap and gown. She swore she would not leave school. He's like the Pied Piper or Charles Manson!!

Mary, we are still expecting snow Thursday night so get ready. We are breaking records every day with our nice temps. Gosh Barb, they showed them evacuating people from San Jose on TV tonight. I hope your rain stops.

I'm still off soda so I sure as heck better have a weight loss tomorrow. I made our flight reservations to Seattle for our June cruise and after they add everything on it came up to $1345....crazy. I luckily got the ticket I could get a refund on and did on Sunday. We have decided to make a road trip out of it. It will probably be less or even the same but I'd rather drive. We are looking forward to it. We can see some of my cousins when we are in Seattle too.

JL, did you go to a movie tonight? I noticed tonight that a couple of those movies are on direct tv now so we can rent them. We don't do that much but will probably this time.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Dianne, Will you be going through or by Sacramento on your way to Seattle. I would love it if you stop here. You can even stay the night here and save a hotel fee. Maybe J/L can come here and we can have a mini-BABB and it would be really nice to meet Louis.

  122. J/L, I really want to see Fences. Sheenah and I are going to see Hidden Figures on Friday. I've seen Manchester By The Sea and La La Land. I liked both very much. It has been raining so much the past three days and it has been very windy. I hate when the wind blows so hard because it usually takes out the electricity. I always laugh at myself when I go to turn on a light and remember the electricity is out. So far it hasn't been out for long periods, so we have been lucky.

  124. Hello Owls.

Today is Todd and Vicki's 9th wedding anniversary, but they have been together 24 years. They were both 19 when they met. The past 24 years have gone by so fast, it is hard to believe it has been that long!

I was supposed to have an appointment at Kaiser today, but it was rescheduled to March 1, so I guess I'll have to wait to get some relief from the fibro pain. I have been using some oils that help for a couple of hours, then I have to reapply. The cats don't like the smell of the oils and they avoid me until it starts to wear off. It makes me laugh when Mellie goes to get under the covers and them almost immediately goes out at the bottom of the bed.
