This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
From 51---Hi....happy new year. Anyone doing anything fun tonight? We are going out to dinner with two other couples and we will be home by ten. I just to love going out on New Years Eve. No one seems to do much anymore. Guess getting older. I'd still go somewhere if I had somewhere to go.
JL, sounds like your shopping trip was successful.
Barb, Louis went to see that movie yesterday and liked it too. I'm going to see that Will Smith movie on Monday but can't remember the name of it right now.
Dianne Happy New Year! Not doing anything tonight except sipping on a White Russian. That sounds rather dirty, doesn't it. LOL I watched a couple of movies and that's about it. My dog really doesn't like hearing the fireworks that will be going off in earnest at midnight but some people seem to be practicing with them at random times tonight. Not happy about that.
I'm here and not hung over. We went with two couples to dinner for New Year's Eve at 7:30 and home by ten. I woke Louis up at 11:50 so we could kiss at midnight. :). Very exciting night!! Today Barb and I went to see Collateral Beauty with Will Smith and a lot of other good people. It was a really good movie with a big surprise ending. I didn't really know anything about the movie.
Watched the Bronco game yesterday. We won!! JL, I see your coach got fired. Ours quit today for health reasons. I'm sorry to see him go.
Where the heck are the others? I might have to go nag them soon.
No need to nag Dianne, I'm here! We didn't work this NYE. We did go out to dinner with Jim's sister and her hubby. We have been doing that for over 20 yrs.We had a couple of drinks at the VFW on the way home. Our weather has been cold, but dry. All tat is starting to change! It has been raining all night. Tomorrow more of the same with heavy fog. Of course I have an appmt. with my eye dr. I'm supposed to get my eyes dilated. I am going alone, so I am not looking forward to it! JL, LOL @ "sipping on a white Russian! It is a good drink though :)
Mary, I have an eye appt tomorrow. I think I'll be getting set up for cataracts. Glad you had a nice evening. We are maybe getting snow tomorrow night, soooooo be ready. It's starting to get colder. I never much wear a coat though. I keep one in the car but hate to wear them just from the car to wherever you're going.
Jl, I like White Russians too. I can't drink too much of them though. I think I did a few times in my younger days.
I made it back from my eye appointment without killing myself lol! My eyes were blurred from the eye drops. I was lucky that it was foggy out. Everyone else was in the same shape as me lol! I made umpteen stops! Gas, Grosseries, bank, pharmacy and Mc Dees :) Matthew wanted their breakfast. The fog didn't lift until I got home. All in all it was a boring day. Washing all the fresh fruit and vegetables was about as exciting as it got! I hope your week is more exciting than mine!
Dianne, I am going to see Collateral Beauty on Saturday with the Jennifers. Jenn B's birthday was Dec. 29, so we are going to celebrate it belatedly. Jen spent the past two weeks in Pennsylvania and Virginia with her family. Her Mom will be moving back to CA in the Spring, so Jen helped her clean out closets so she wouldn't have so much to move.
J/L, I'm watching Frontline on PBS and they are doing a story on the Donald. At the moment, they are talking about how he believes that the more he tells a lie, the more people believe it. They should have shown this BEFORE the election, because it is not showing him in a good light. The next two Frontline shows will continue the story and include how he has been working the transition.
Barb I'm sorry I missed Frontline. Maybe I can get it On Demand. I've been watching the Leah Remini documentary regarding the abuses of Scientology. What an evil cult that is!
It has been storming here all day. I have to really bundle up and put the dog on a leash and force her to go out front to do her business. She's very nervous about the winds when they kick up. I heard on the news that some of the gusts are 50/mph. I just stayed home today and made beef stew for dinner. It really hit the spot.
Mary Your drive home from the eye doctor sounds scary and dangerous. I'm glad you made it home in one piece. I had a boring day at home cleaning house.
Dianne How did your eye appointment go? I was diagnosed with very early stage cataracts years ago but it hasn't seem to have progressed much, if at all, and I don't find it a hindrance in any way. It's just one of the joys of aging, right?
J/L, Stew sounds really good in this stormy weather. It's one of those comfort foods that my family loved, but I rarely make it now since it's just me. I really don't like cooking just for one, although I would eat stew every day until it was gone, I like it that much. Of course, I have to make garlic bread to go with it! That would be about 100 points per meal, if I was counting in WW points! LOL
Barb I had leftover stew for dinner last night and will probably have it again tonight. That's fine with me but if it wasn't, I'd freeze it for another time.
I'm cold! It's 37* and breezy. It will be a bit warmer on the street below me as they are in the sunshine and I'm in the shade of the mountain and trees. We are expecting a big storm this weekend and that worries me because of the winds. I don't want any trees coming down, that's for sure. It's no fun going out in storms to force my dog to do her "business", either. Cats are sure easier in that regard.
So I'm trying to think of what to make to eat while I hunker down during the bad weather this weekend. I have everything I need to make spaghetti so that might be it. It will not be helpful to my WW points, though.
J/L, Spaghetti sounds like good comfort food! I have been eating left overs from Christmas Eve and Dinner for two weeks. I made up single portion packages and put them in the freezer, however the 'single' portions are very generous, hence the weight gain I am experiencing! LOL
I still have lingering cough from over 2 months ago and now I feel like I'm getting a new cold. My young hairdresser has been coughing for 6 months now and I had my hair done yesterday. Hmmmm....... Anyway, she's been on antibiotics, inhalers, had chest x-rays...the works. Nothing wrong except that this crud just hangs on forever. Since I'm not feeling too perky, I'm going to make myself some brownies from scratch. Not on the WW plan. This is shaping up to be a bad weekend as far as weight loss goes.
`JustLin, Brownies will cure everything! :) Sorry you are still dealing with the cruds!
SacBarb, we had pasta tonight. I also made home made biscuits for strawberry shortcake. Brownies Sunday :) I can feel the lbs rising as I type lol!!
Dianne, you have been on my mind a lot lately. Love you :) About your not wearing a coat... I wear them, but never button or zip up. I hate being all bundled up. I look bad enough when I take Zoie out! lol! I put on a sweatshirt,my coat,a scarf around my neck, my knitted hat, my boots and gloves! It's a wonder Zoie doesn't have an accident waiting for me to bundle up!
We have been in the single figures temp wise here. The wind makes it worse!
I made Queenie's kennel reservations yesterday. For an extra $10 I could have gotten her a suite! Couch and all! She will have play time, nap time and who knows what other "time" lol! We didn't want to strap Matthew with her since she is so rambunctious! He and Zoie are buddies. He knows her habits much better than Queenie's.
Hi....How are all of you doing? I hope you're not getting sick, JL. I think you immune system is down a little as you seem to catch colds easy. Hopefully the brownies helped. I didn't go to WW this week. Wednesday was not an easy day and I wasn't in the mood. I just went to lunch with one of my best friends. Anyway, hope you're getting better or didn't get sick at all. It took me two times with prednisone to get rid of my cough.
It was -11 last night. Going up to 60 on Monday. Did I tell you all I got a new bed? It was delivered on Friday. It's an adjustable one and I think it will be really good for my legs. It elevates them and also gives me a bend in my knee..which I need. It is a massage bed too. Nice. It's like the old days when motels had magic fingers for a quarter...anyone remember them?
Kayla registered back at her high school on Friday and starts Monday. I hope she really does. She's at her dads right now. We went to dinner with her as a family last night. It's hard.
Mary, it won't be long until you are off to Vegas. I really enjoyed last month more than I thought I would. I'll bet your son is glad he'll only have one dog to take care of while your gone. How long will you be in Vegas? Any shows planned?
Barb, how did you like the movie? Were you surprised by the ending? I really was...had not a clue. Did you go out to eat with your friends too? I love a good movie.
Went to my brothers tonight for my nieces birthday dinner. Tomorrow we are going to my Wednesday lunch friends house for dinner and the Green Bay game as she's from Wisconsin. Louis is installing a printer for her and some other computer things.
I don't know about my immune system but I do have asthma and so that seems to make me more susceptible to upper respiratory viruses. I do have a current flu vaccine. I feel better tonight than I did last night.
Your bed sounds great. I could probably benefit from a bed like that.
I'm glad Kayla signed back up for school. I hope she follows through, too. That would be a step in the right direction.
Mary True to my word, tonight I made spaghetti. This weather is making me want "comfort" foods. Anything with pasta is a comfort to me. LOL
We have been having stormy weather with some really strong wind gusts and they are supposed to get even worse tonight at around midnight. I've brought in the hummingbird feeders as it was making me nervous to see them swinging wildly from the eaves just outside the window.
Hi Ladies! Been busy again. Watching Harrison. Putting away Christmas. Have been able to spend some time with my mom. I was so used to being alone in Denver most of the time, that now I'm in a bit of a rut. I'm used to just doing what I want, and I forget about calling my mom. So I'm trying to be better about it. I gave up calling her to ask if she wanted to do something because she kept backing out. But lately she has been better and has been going out to movies. One day we just came over here and she watched a show I had recorded for her while I made some cookies. New Years Eve I watched Harrison, but was able to be home by 10:30 or so. And as usual, I was asleep and was woken up by fireworks. Woopie!!!
J/L, It has been stormy here, too, and really cold! I almost didn't go out to get my mail because it was raining, but I don't feel comfortable leaving it in the mailbos overnight, since the box is outside the gate. I've been thinking about getting a locking mailbox because I've seen things on the news about mail being stolen. It wasn't in my neighborhood, but I have a lot of people walking by my house going to the river and there are homeless camps popping up down there.
Mary, My son takes his dog to doggy day camp twice a week so he can use up some of his energy and get some socializing in. They charge him $25 per day.
Barb This storm has been raging for hours. I'm very thankful that my roof is only a couple of years old. Some of these winds are shaking the house. I have to try and time it just right in order to get the dog to go out quickly between the worst waves of it. It's good that this is happening on a Sunday as it would be horrible for commuters to have to drive in this. Thank goodness I don't have any trees down.
I have an attached garage with a slot in the garage door for mail. There's a kind of wooden "basket" attached right under the slot on the inside so the mail falls in there. I felt bad for the mailman yesterday because the weather was almost this bad.
Barb.in.WA It's nice that you are able to spend more time with your mom now. I really miss my mom and wish we hadn't lived so far apart. Your mom must be thrilled with her darling little great grandson. What is your grandmother nickname? My mother was Nana to my kids. My grandkids call me Nana and they called my mother "Nana the Great". LOL
J/L, It's still storming here and there is flooding and trees down all over town. I hope it lets up for the commute drive tomorrow. I just heard on the news that the huge redwood in Calaveras County, that had the cutout for cars to drive through came down in the storm. That is very sad. Lots of family pics were taken by that tree. We took several sets of relatives up there because they don't have trees like that on the east coast.
I watched the Golden Globe award show tonight and was happy to see Casey got an award for Manchester By The Sea. I really liked that movie and he was very good in the lead male role.
I heard that there will be big drama on the Bachelor tomorrow night. No surprise!

Hello HOoters!
ReplyDeleteThe cats and I spent a quiet New Year's Eve and I went to bed around 1am. There were some fireworks, but it didn't seem to bother the cats.
