Married for 50 Years

by Dianne

After being married for 50 years, I took a careful look at my wife one day and said, “Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep with a hot 23-year-old girl every night.”

“Now, I have a $750,000 home, a $45,000 car, a nice big bed and a large screen TV, but I’m sleeping with a 69-year-old woman. It seems to me that you’re not holding up your side of things.”

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find a hot 23-year-old girl and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.

Aren’t older women great?

They really know how to solve an old guy’s problems.

  1. Good one Dianne! I always tell Jim, that I would leave him, except he would have way too much fun, and I can't have THAT! LOL!!!

I just fixed my hair and put my face on. What a gal does to go to the recycle center!LOL!!
Our big event of the night will be going to "Burger Night" at the VFW. Our county fair is here and will prolly head that way next week for junk food day.
Have a great week end all!

  2. Dianne Thanks for the blog today. I'm getting over my funk..... or maybe I'm just funky. LOL

I went into San Francisco the other day with my friends for Philly Cheese Steaks. It's their favorite place to get them as they come from the east coast and these cheese steaks live up to the ones they used to get back there. They really are yummy. I always get mine with everything added; mushrooms, onions, sweet and hot peppers. I must have a Coke with this but at least I didn't get the curly fries this time. Now THAT was self-control. LOL

  3. Mary Jim wouldn't know what to do without you. For one thing, he'd probably starve to death.

The shower curtain idea is a good one but I think I'd prefer a table cloth as I want it to fold easily over the edge of the table in front of me and not be too stiff. I did just put up a new shower curtain liner and I was thinking it seemed thin enough that it might drape nicely over the edge of a table. My old line would not have. I thought I was going to bite the bullet yesterday and get my paint stuff out and "just do it" but then I didn't. I seemed to find too many other things that needed doing such as laundry and housework. No fun at all. I need to make the art stuff more of a priority.

  4. Barb Where are you? Are you out driving your new car? This makes me want a new car just for the fun of it. I'm glad you found exactly what you wanted.

It was sunny and warm yesterday and looks to be that way again today. I guess that means it is downright hot where you are. I was even wearing capris yesterday which is something I rarely do around here.

  5. Hi.....glad you like the blog. Hope people keep sending me things.

High 90's here. Too hot but nights cool right down to 60's so that's nice. Yum on the cheesesteak. How far is SF from where you live? Fun to live so close to the big city but yet live at the beach. ...best of both worlds. I splurged st a party yesterday and had a coke. They bought sf popsicles for me do that helped. We stopped at Starbucks on way home and I never get anything from there but caved again. I'll probably have a darn gain this week. Glad you are out of your funk.

We are gong on a train ride tomorrow. It's at the Royal Gorge. Barb, louis and another friend and I are going it's about two and a half hours from here. The ride is for two hours and we can eat on the train. It should be fun. Hope I don't have any trouble with the steps.

Today I went for a pedicure and then I was going to finally sort thru summer clothes ...I didn't yet again. I'm just lazy. I still have an awful cough that I simply can't get rid of for weeks. I go for a diabetic checkup the end of the month and will talk to dr then. It's so annoying and takes my breath away. Kind of scary.

Mary, how was the hamburger party? It sounded good. Hope you enjoyed it. What are you cooking tonight? Louis is eating pizza from last night.

Barb, how's that car? That was a great picture with the big ribbon on it. It looks like you've been busy this weekend.

  6. Hello Everyone. I had a busy weekend. My sister-in-law from San Jose and a cousin from Santa Maria arrived on Friday and yesterday we went to a graduation party in Placerville for another cousin's daughter. She went to Colorado Mesa U. on a Softball Scholarship. It was good to see all of them and especially, Uncle Denny who will be 89 December 1st. He still works three days a week on a ranch doing odd jobs for the owner, who is a friend of the family. He keeps Uncle Denny employed just to give him something to do. He really has to invent jobs for him to do on the ranch. Uncle Denny's daughter Darlene is so grateful because her Dad needs to keep busy or he is at her house or at her work bugging her. He doesn't know how to occupy himself and expects her to keep him busy when he isn't working. He is an old cowboy and for many years he ran Wagon Train trips from Placerville to points north through the mountains to Donner Summit. His wife helped him before she died and they would dress in old west garments. Uncle Denny thought he was John Wayne!

My cell phone literally died on Friday night, so before we went to Placerville, we went to Batteries and Bulbs and they changed to battery. I was afraid I was going to have to get a new phone and I really didn't want to do that. So, the battery cost $70 and I am back in business.

  7. Mary, I LOL'd at you fixing your face to go to the recycle center. I don't like to go out without makeup either. I was at the post office last week and the woman in fromt of me in line looked like she just got our of bed. She was wearing what I am sure was pajamas, no bra, and I don't think she even ran a comb through her hair. She looked to be about 30ish.

  8. J/L, I really love my car, but I didn't get to drive it much yet. Cousin Debbie has a Ford CMAX and she parked in my driveway when they arrived, so we just took her car when we went out. I'll have plenty of time to drive my car. My Saturn is going to go to San Diego as soon as Todd can get to Sac to pick it up. He has a pretty busy schedule until mid September.

The weekend was pretty hot here. I think it was 107 yesterday in Sac, but it was only 100 in Placerville, where we were. Frankly, there isn't much difference between 100 and 107 in my opinion. It is still HOT!

  9. Dianne, That train ride sounds like fun. Sharon and I have talked about taking the train across Canada from Vancouver to the East - not sure where it ends. Hopefully we will be able to do it in the next couple of years.

The bow on the car was really cool, but they didn't let me keep it. I wasn't happy about that. I thought I spent enough money to at least get to keep the bow! Kathy and Randy got their new car from Carmax too and she said they didn't let them keep the bow either.

  10. Hi....went for train ride and lunch on the train. It was very pretty as it went along the Arkansas river. We saw a lot of rafters. It was a two hour ride in an air conditioned car. It was fun and a nice way to spend the day. I kind of dozed on the way home.

I think you should have been able to keep your bow too, Barb...it's the least they could do. That's great that Uncle Denny still works at his age. Probably keeps him feeling young.

I have the worst cough. Ive had it since before vacation. Ive been on drugs and it seems worse. I cough so hard it makes me dizzy sometimes. I'm going to Dr at the end of the month so I'll just wait but it's painful!

That's about it for the day. Night

  11. Dianne I'm sorry you still have that darn cough. I wish you could get to the doctor sooner so you could at least get some codeine cough medicine so you'd be able to sleep well at night. Sometimes coughs can hang on for a long, long time. I've been having a very annoying cough lately from my allergies and my asthma.

I had some overly ripe bananas so I made some banana-nut bread. It's a lot of WW points for one slice so I've given most of it away to the young family across the street. At least someone can enjoy it without guilt. LOL

Your train ride sounds pleasant. I probably would have started dozing on the way home, too. Two hours sounds like a good amount of time to be on a train. I don't know that I'd want to do a cross country trip on one. I'm to anxious to just get to the destination.

  12. Barb Well, I guess it would have been fun to have the bow from the car but then you'd have to store it. And what would you ever use it for? I take it you are giving your old car to Todd?

Today I am going with John and Jane to see "Hero" starring Sam Elliot before it disappears from theaters. I don't know much about the movie but Jane and I can think of worse ways to spend time than looking at and listening to Sam Elliot. LOL We'll have an early dinner afterwards. Early dinners usually don't work well for me because I get hungry late at night. I do have grapes to snack on. OH, yum. LOL

  13. Mary I don't step outside the house unless I have hair and makeup done. DSpeaking of stepping outside the house........ I haven't been able to walk around the neighborhood with the dog because of the (expletive) person that keeps setting off explosions left over from July 4. Whoever it is sets them off at random times. I had to give my dog another tranquilizer on Sunday. It's really, really pissing me off and I'm starting to wish that they'd blow a finger off. Maybe then they'd stop doing it.

  14. J/L, You are right about the big bow. I'd have to find a place to store it and I really don't know if I could re-purpose it, so it's better they didn't give it to me. When you had your roof done, did they tell you to take everything off the walls? I was told to do that and my company helped me get everything down. My SIL and cousin are both taller than I am, (everyone is taller than I am) so they didn't even need a step ladder. It was very convenient to have them here! :)

  15. Dianne, I agree with J/L that you should get some cough medicine. Even if you don't get a RX, maybe something over the counter will at least help you sleep. Maybe Nyquil will help.

  16. J/L 2, Yes I am giving my Saturn to Todd. My car is 10 years old but it has less than 45,000, and Vicki's car is nine years old and has 125,000+ miles.

  17. Barb No, I did not have to take things off the walls when I had the roof done. I don't recall if they even mentioned I might want to if I had anything really valuable that I was concerned about (I don't). They are probably just covering their butts. There was plenty of commotion but never enough to cause things to fall off of walls.

  18. J/L, The roofers arrived at 6:45 this morning and removed all the shingles. I had two layers on the original part of the house and one layer on the additions. I thought the estimate included removing all the current layers as I told the guy giving me the estimate exactly how many layers were there, but apparently he didn't believe me, because $500 was added for the part with two layers. Then they discovered a lot of dry rot that they have to repair and that is going to cost another $2,200. I knew if they found dry rot, it was going to cost more in labor and materials, but I didn't think it would be that much. I feel like I'm in a cartoon with all the dollar signs spinning before my eyes! They said it will be finished Monday or Tuesday. They made a lot of noise taking the old roof off, but I think I could have left the pictures on the wall.

  19. Barb Wood rot is always an unpleasant surprise but has to be dealt with. They had to replace some wood on mine, too, but it only cost me an additional $370 ($210 for material and $160 for labor). There were a couple of layers of shingles to be removed on mine, too, but they had that figured out ahead of time so I had no surprise about that. I'm sure you're not happy about the extra charges as they add up. The $2,200 sounds awfully high. How much do they have to replace? Unfortunately, we can't go up on the roof and see for ourselves what they are talking about.

  20. Hi.....well, we hit 100 today. Very hot. Second time this summer. Breaking records.

Barb, wow...that's a lot of extra $$. Well, you will have a nice roof when you get done. That's nice you're giving your car to you son. You're a good mommy!! Btw, how's the roof next door coming along?

I went to dr today. I guess I have sinus infection along with my asthma. I ended up with four prescriptions one being prednisone. She wants to see me in a week. I had to get some nose sprays too. Antibiotics, etc. no cough medicine. She wanted me to use mucinex but pharmacy wouldn't give it to me because I'm on blood pressure medicine. I guess I'll call Dr in am about that situation. Meanwhile....I'm coughing my frighin head off. I had to do a blow test to see what my lung capacity was and I coughed thru whole blowing test. It was very low so she said it was a good thing I came in today. I feel fine just this damn cough.

JL, you'd think your fireworks would be over by now. That's along time to still be shooting them. I gained at ww today and i didn't think I would this week. We did go out for a nice steak dinner last night but I was careful what I ate and drank my water. Discouraging. BUT my dr was thrilled with my weight loss. It's 50 pounds on her graph. So she hi fived me and that was nice.

Mary...what's up girl? Missing you again.

  21. Dianne, Congratz on your weight loss. Last week when I weighed in at Jenny Craig I had a six lb. gain and I told the consultant I was having some water retention issues. My legs were pretty swollen. It wasn't my regular consultant and I am sure she was saying to herself, "yeah, right!" But this week I had a almost an eight lb. loss, so I told Lori, my regular consultant about the woman from last week and she kinda rolled her eyes. I guess no one likes that woman. Anyway, it doesn't seem like much when there is a one or two lb. loss, but they do add up. So, giving up soda really paid off for you.

  22. Dianne 2, The roofers showed up at my house 6:30 this morning. I guess they want to get an early start, because the temps here have been between 95-100 in the afternoon. Yesterday they worked until about 3:30. The roof next door is not done yet. I saw the two people working on it for a couple hours on Sunday, then they were gone! I have said since they started that roof that mine would be finished before that one and it looks like I was right.

  23. J/L, The project manager showed me pictures of the areas on the roof that need to be replaced and it looked like quite a bit. My contract stated that if they found dry rot it would be repaired at $75 per hour plus materials, so I knew of the possibility. I didn't mind that as much as the additional cost for removing the second layer of shingles, even though it was a lesser amount. For me it was just that he didn't tell me at the time we were discussing how many layers were on the roof. He finally told me he would only charge me $500 instead of $750 which would be the normal cost. I'm not sure I believe that!

  24. Hi ....great Barb of an eight pound loss. We know our bodies by now and no when we are holding water. Irritating with some people. Too bad she wasn't there to see it. So are you eating their food? How is it? It wouldn't work for me with my lunches. I'm still eating sf popsicles, pretzels and water for my snacks. I force that water with lots of ice. I went to lunch with my cousins visiting today but stuck to a salad as I have dinner out tonight too. Congratulations.

Well, I'm still coughing. I guess 12 hours of meds won't work yet ..lol. Hurry drugs.

Barb 2--glad they are working on your roof. Maybe the neighbors will get inspired when they see yours.

We are going to the movie with Tammy and James Friday night to see Dunkirk. Louis is anxious to see it.

That's about it. Would like to take a nap but doing a load of wash so need to be awake for dryer.

  25. Dianne, One of the guys working on my roof asked me about who was doing the one next door and I just said I wasn't really sure. I didn't want to get into a big discussion with him about them. He said while he was on my roof he noticed the woman working on the flashing and he said she wasn't doing it right. He asked me if they had a permit and if it was getting inspected, because he was sure it wasn't going to pass.

  26. From mary....Have I been gone too long again lol! Sorry, I have been super busy! I promise to check in tomorrow. afternoon. A friend and I are going to "Ladies Day" at the Fair tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a slower week end! Today was a wash (pun not intended lol), with hair getting did and grossery shopping .. Yesterday we had a fiasco to deal with. Some h ow a ton of honey bees found their way into my kitchen. We were killing them left and right! It took us a while to find out where they were coming in! Jim is allergic to their sting, so all he did was vacuum them up, which drove me crazy lol! I went with the "Dawn and water spray" and many "smuches". I need to go to bed as I have to get up waaay too early to meet my girlfriend. You know I am NOT a morning person! You can "copy & paste" this and put in the nest. Nite!! ❤
