A minister concluded that his church was getting into serious financial troubles. While checking the church storeroom, he discovered several cartons of new bibles that had never been opened and distributed. So at his Sunday sermon, he asked for three volunteers from the congregation who would be willing to sell the bibles door-to-door for $10 each to raise the desperately needed money for the church.Peter, Paul and Louie all raised their hands to volunteer for the task. The minister knew that Peter and Paul earned their living as salesmen and were likely capable of selling some bibles. But he had serious doubts about Louie who was a local farmer, who had always kept to himself because he was embarrassed by his speech impediment. Poor Louis stuttered badly. But, not wanting to discourage Louis, the minister decided to let him try anyway. He sent the three of them away with the back seat of their cars stacked with bibles. He asked them to meet with him and report the results of their door-to-door selling efforts the following Sunday.Anxious to find out how successful they were, the minister immediately asked Peter, “Well, Peter, how did you make out selling our bibles last week?”Proudly handing the reverend an envelope, Peter replied, “Using my sales prowess, I was able to sell 20 bibles, and here’s the $200 I collected on behalf of the church.”“Fine job, Peter!” The minister said, vigorously shaking his hand. “You are indeed a fine salesman and the Church is indebted to you.”Turning to Paul, “And Paul, how many bibles did you sell for the church last week?”Paul, smiling and sticking out his chest, confidently replied,” I am a professional salesman. I sold 28 bibles on behalf of the church, and here’s $280 I collected.”The minister responded, ” That’s absolutely splendid, Paul. You are truly a professional salesman and the church is also indebted to you.”Apprehensively, the minister turned to Louie and said, “And Louie, did you manage to sell any bibles last week?”Louie silently offered the minister a large envelope. The reverend opened it and counted the contents.“What is this?” the minister exclaimed. “Louie, there’s $3200 in here! Are you suggesting that you sold 320 bibles for the church, door to door, in just one week?Louie just nodded. That’s impossible!” both Peter and Paul said in unison. “We are professional salesmen, yet you claim to have sold 10 times as many bibles as we could.”“Yes, this does seem unlikely,” the minister agreed. “I think you’d better explain how you managed to accomplish this, Louie.”Louie shrugged. “I-I-I- re-re-really do-do-don’t kn-kn-know f-f-f-for sh -sh-sh-sure,” he stammered.Impatiently, Peter interrupted. “For crying out loud, Louie, just tell us what you said to them when they answered the door!”“A-a-a-all I-I-I s-s-said wa-wa-was,” Louis replied, “W-w-w-w-would y-y-y-you l-l-l-l-l-like t-t-to b-b-b-buy th-th-th-this b-b-b-b-bible f-f-for t-t-ten b-b-b-bucks —o-o-o-or— wo-wo-would yo-you j-j-j-just l-like m-m-me t-t-to st-st-stand h-h-here and r-r-r-r-r-read it t-to y-y-you?”

Dianne, that’s a good one. Thanks for sending it to Tina and Tina, thanks for posting it. You should be cruising now. I hope you are having a good time.
Barb No, I didn't feel the earthquake. I was fast asleep at that time of morning and it didn't wake me up.
Do you ever watch Big Brother? My daughter and I usually do and the celebrity version is starting soon. I might watch it just because Scaramucci is going to be on it. I may watch just for the comic relief. LOL
Did you get stormy weather a few days ago? We sure did. Thankfully, I didn't lose any trees and my fencing stayed up but two boards did get pushed out of it. I repaired those yesterday. It was fun (not) forcing my way in through bushes and squeezed between tree trunks and fencing in order to nail the boards back up.
Mary I'm going to put my two cents in and tell you that I agree with Barb....You must tell your doctor about the pain in your shin. That's not "normal" and needs to be addressed; better sooner than later.
When you get your cans for beans, let me know what you think of the recipe. I made a cake the other day to take to a friend's house. I got the recipe from a post on FB and it was good. We all liked it. It's called Granny's Cake and there is a can of crushed pineapple mixed into the batter and then pecans and brown sugar on top. Once the cake is baked, you pour a heated mixture of evaporated milk, sugar, a stick of butter, and vanilla over the top of the cake and let it sink in and set a while. We all liked it but we may have been suffering from a sugar high. LOL
Dianne I hope you and Louis are enjoying your time on the ship. My cruise is coming up sooner than I would like. I better get shopping!
Just_lin. I finally made the soup. It sure makes a lot! I kind of wish I would have left the chili/tomato sauce can out. It is a bit too spicy for my tummy. I froze most into freezer bags.
I will call my Dr tomorrow and see if he thinks I need to come in. I hope it's just tender from healing.
Glad you didn't have too much damage from the storm! You be careful doing those repairs!!
Dianne, have a ball!!
SacBarb. Waving at you and hoping your aches are calming down . Are you having to do much cooking? I made beef tips n gravy with mashed taters today. Last night it was Tacos for Matt & Enchiladas for Jim.
Poor Zoie has been having a terrible time doing her business today. The sub zero temps are hard on her paws. I have to pick her up and warm her paws a few times before she finally goes! It's sad seeing her legs buckle from the frozen ground. I am right there to grab her :(
Hellooooo. Just checking in on this frigid Friday!!
I am so absent-minded! Last winter I ordered some salve for the dogs feet to protect them from the sub zero temps. Do you think I can find it??? Noooo! I hate when I misplace things!!
We are expecting a snow storm next Monday. I have an appointment in Lansing on Tuesday. My Mammogram came back a bit questionable so they want to give me the new imaging test that is not available locally. I have been trying to reschedule.
I hope you are all ok.
Mary, did you call the doc about yourleg? I am gonna bug you until you do. Poor Zoie. I used to have little booties for my cocker spaniel because he didn’t like the cold either. Maybe you can get that for your baby.
J/L, I admire you for fixing your fence by yourself. The only thing I fix anymore are burned out light bulbs and now that Chad is here, I’ll probably ask him to do those. Did you send me the soup recipe? I have a new email address because I got tired of trying to get Comcast to fix my email. My new one is: sacbarb@gmail.com.
Sharon and I went to a cello concert today and it was very enjoyable. They have four a year at the theatre on the Sierra College campus and we usuallt attend a couple every year. This time they included a harpsichord and a lute. Very old timey!
Dianne, I’m sure you and Louis are enjoying your cruise and Hawaii. We miss you.
Barb No, I didn't have your new email so I just re-sent the soup recipe.
My daughter plans to move to Eugene which will make me sad but it makes sense for her. She really doesn't like living in American Canyon but it is too expensive to move closer to here. She needs a place with a yard for the dogs and rents here are ridiculous. She works from home so that gives her lots of options. She and the dogs have been taking road trips up to Oregon and she has decided that Eugene is the best for her. There are lots of opportunity for hiking with the dogs plus have benefits of some city life. I guess it's also about an hour from the coast. Anyway, she is fixing up her old bedroom in my house so she will be staying in it when she comes to visit. She was here Saturday scrubbing down walls, etc., and she couldn't get one of the closet door knobs off which she will be replacing. It was frozen solid. I had just enough room to get a hacksaw between the door and the knob and proceeded to saw away. Lo and behold, I was able to saw through the screw and we got the knob off! It kind of surprised me that it worked. LOL
So she had been working in the room all day and then we went to dinner and she started having pain in her stomach area. She didn't finish dinner but felt better when we got back to the house and so she worked a little more. She was okay to drive home with her dogs but yesterday she was in so much pain that she went to the ER. Kidney stone! They put her on morphine while they figured out what the problem was so she wasn't able to drive home. Her ex and is current girlfriend picked her up from hospital and took her and her car back to her place. This is a good reason to be on good terms with an ex. So far she is okay today but very tired out. The doctor said the stone had already passed through two of the three most difficult spots so she may have more discomfort ahead of her today. We shall see.
Mary I feel so sorry for poor little Zoie. I hope you were able to find that salve for her paws. I'm sure it's no picnic for you to take her out in that weather but at least you have shoes or boots on. The other day my dog started bleeding from a small growth on the back of one of her front legs. I took her in to the vet last Tuesday and had them remove it so now she has a couple of sutures there that will come out on Friday. She has completely ignored their existence so I'm happy with that. I'm sure we are both glad that she doesn't have to wear the cone on her head.
I should go to the gross-ry store today but I don't know what I want for dinner. I wish you were here to cook something yummy for me.
Dianne I've enjoyed the pics you've posted on FB so far. It looks like you are having a great time.
J/L, so sorry about your daughter’s health issue. I’ve never had a kidney stone, but I know people that have and have seen the pain in their face when they had an attack. Moving to Eugene is a big step. Does she know anyone there? How close is Eugene to where her ex lives, in case she has another emergency.
Thanks for sending the soup recipe. I think I’ll try it. I love to eat soup when the weather is cold.
Barb Well, she hasn't moved yet and her ex lives in Napa, not Oregon. To my knowledge, she doesn't know anyone in the Eugene area except for people she met when staying there at an Airbnb.
Hi there! Michigan weather has bee brutal!!
SacBarb, I have not called my Dr. I know, I know! I have put on my compression sock on the bad leg. It seems to help. I am still puzzled why the top of my shin hurts. I do have a standing apptm in Feb. Motrin helps too. :( I have been using Queenie's outdoor kennel for Zoie's "business". It is completed covered, top & sides with straw on the ground. It took her a few minutes to figure out that she could go p&p there lol! It seems to be working ok. Queenie sleeps in her crate and doesn't linger when taken outside. Our temps will be climbing next week, thank goodness! Pretty funny when you think high 40s is a heat wave lol!!
Just_Lin. I keep thinking I want to move out of state to somewhere warmer, then I think, what would I do in case of an emergency? No family members around to help, or be there quick. Unfortunately, it's something we have to take into consideration as we age. Your daughter is still young, but I sure would feel better if she was living closer to you! I applaud her for her spirit of adventure :)
I hope she has a painless "exit" from the stone!
btw, I have not found the salve! I prolly will this spring when I do my big cleaning lol!
Dianne, miss you! I know you are having a ball!!
There has been no school all week here due to the weather. This morning I checked the barometer at 4am, it was -17 actual. wind chills were - 40!
We got an emergency alert about midnight over the tv and cell phones. It was LOUD!! I still had my hearing aid on and it came through my phone right through my hearing aide! Scared the bajesus out of me! Evidently there was a fire at Consumers Energy station and we were asked to lower our house temps to 65* ! If we didn't, many could lose power/heat altogether! Many General Motor plants were shut down to preserve energy. Schools have just been canceled until Monday. Crazy Michigan!!!!
Crazy Michigan!!
LOL, I guess I really think Michigan is crazy to write it twice!!
OMG Mary. Our news keeps telling us how cold it is across the US and the coldest states are Chicago and Michigan. I am so glad I don’t live in that climate. I’m always cold, and I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to take it! The coldest I can remember in Sac was in the low 20’s and that is very rare. Also it never lasts more than a couple of days. Even at that, we have some folks that go to AZ for the winter. Maybe you and some family members can become ‘snow birds’ together so you all can help each other.
P. S. Don’t forget that doc appointment. 😳
J/L, I guess you are looking forward to your cruise. I forgot where you’re going, but I will bet it’s warm. when do you leave? You will have to catch up with the Bachelor when you get home, unless you can watch on the cruise.
