~ Happy Father's Day ~

  1. Hello all....things quiet over the weekend. Went to the bbq yesterday and thank goodness had really good weather. We were home about 7:30. what should have been a 1-1/2 hour drive was 2-1/2 hours because of two accidents and road construction! Very frustrating.

My brother was taken to the hospital late this afternoon with a horrible leg infection and we just heard from my sil that his fever is high and they think he’s septic. He’s been like this for two weeks and dr at nursing home just started him on antibiotic. I’m really worried about him.

We’ve been having rain and hail storms. My friend I was meeting for lunch canceled this am due to possible weather. Ive never had someone cancel lunch because of weather in the summer.

That’s about my news from here.

  2. Hello! I am # 1 :)

I have been in a whirlwind since I have been home! I would have gotten more done sooner, except for the fact that I have been sleeping in waaaay to long lol! My body didn't want to get out of Vegas time! My sinus crap hit me hard when I got off the plane!
Matthew has been a big help. H did grocery shopping for me before I got home, did vacuuming & had the kitchen cleaned. He also had two pizzas just out of the oven when we walked in the door.
We have an open house this weekend. My Grandson Liam will be visiting from the Ann Arbor area. We don't see him very often. I hope I don't mess up saying things like "she, her,or calling him by his female name. I know he understands, because I try really hard!
Matthew just can't seem to get used to the fact that his Niece, is now his nephew.

    Hope you are all ok.

  4. Dianne, so sorry about your brother. That is scary! I will put a prayer in for him. Is he the one on FB? I forgot his name.

  5. Mary yes. His name is Bruce. Yes, it very scary. They finally just admitted him for “a number of days with septic”.

Ha ha....beat you but you'll always be #1 in my book! So, you’re keeping it from us if you won millions in Vegas. We’re waiting so we can plan that cruise you’re taking us on. How nice that Matthew did all that for you and great to walk into dinner being ready. Enjoy seeing your grandson. It would be hard to make the change, I’m sure.

  6. Dianne I'm so sorry about Bruce's troubles. I don't understand why he was having problems 2 weeks before doctor put him on antibiotics. As I understand it, he has diabetes which means compromised circulation to his extremities. Staff and doctor should be on high alert when it comes to infection in his feet or legs. If I was your SIL, I would be demanding answers from the nursing home as to why this wasn't tended to earlier.

My brother went to the ER on Father's Day with a heart rate of 173 (a normal resting HR is around 60). Anyway, they couldn't get it to come down with medication so they admitted him. He has remained there but is hoping to go home this afternoon. His HR was 90 this morning. Lab work showed that his thyroid is really out of whack so the cardiologist had an endocrinologist check him out yesterday and they found two nodules on his thyroid. The thyroid issues may be what's causing the rapid heart beat. He has follow up appointment to check that out further next week.

  7. Mary How nice of Matthew to have everything spiffed up for you when you got home. And hot pizza waiting, too. He deserves a pat on the back for that.

I don't think I knew you had a transgender person in your family. It would be hard to change pronouns when referring to him when he's always been a "her" before and your memories of him is as the opposite gender. I take it you are having an easier time with the change in mindset than Matthew is. How about Jim? Or does he just kind of avoid the issue altogether. LOL

So how did you make out in Vegas? Did you come home on the plus side of things?

  8. Barb You better get your butt in here or Dianne will come after you.

It's been a really pleasant day here; low 70's with blue skies and a slight breeze. Perfect! Thank God those hellish temps are behind us. That heat wave only lasted a few days but that was a few days too long. LOL

I was so impressed by the play "Hamilton" that I have begun reading the biography by Chernow that so inspired Lin Manuel Miranda that he wrote the play. I must say it's certainly not light summer reading but I am finding it all very interesting. It's really remarkable that an orphaned boy born on a Caribbean Island would become a major figure in the creation of our country and government and at such a young age. I'm also learning a lot about what the colonists went through during the Revolutionary War.

  9. Just_lin, No big wins, but I didn't lose much. The last night I had good luck at a gaming table and recouped my loses. I had decided not to gamble much this trip. I rested a lot and went out to the pool even in the 107 temps lol!
The Diana Ross show was wonderful! She was so energetic! Still beautiful and her voice was great!
What is the name of the book you are reading? I love reading Biographies.
I just finished reading (in Vegas)Randy Travis's bio. I always thought him a bit boring, but was drawn to his book because of his life threatening heart attack. He went through, and still going through a lot. His first wife took advantage of his innocence and had him sign papers giving her most of his earnings. She did help get him out there , but was very controlling. He is happily married now.
I am about to read Gary Sanise bio, "Grateful American.

Dianne, I have been thinking of your bother. I sure hope he is improving! Keep us posted please!

    Yo Barb!!

  10. Mary It's "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow. I'm reading it on my Kindle but I have a feeling it's a big book.

  11. Dianne, you don’t have to nudge me. I have been pretty busy. My husband’s cousin stopped here on her way back to Santa Maria from Oregon. She was visiting my two sisters-in-law. She came in on Monday and left early today. I had a hair appointment at 10:30 am and a mani/pedi at noon, so she left when I left for my hair appointment. I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but she was six years old when we got married and she caught my wedding bouquet. My attendants were not happy, but she was thrilled. She kept the bouquet for years. She was baptized shortly after we were married and I am her Godmother. We have been very close. We took her on several trips with us when she was in her teen years. Her Dad died at 36 from a heart attack and both of her brothers died three weeks apart, of the same heart disease as their Dad. They were 41 and 42. It was very sad.
I’m glad you got the card with the $20 you left in one of the cases. I guess that was there for “emergencies” and you forgot about it.

  12. J/L, I’m glad it cooled down for you. Chad has been complaining about the heat here. We had heat in the high 90s and he keeps telling me, “it’s 70 degrees in Seattle.” I told him he needs to stop looking at Seattle weather.
I need to finish packing today as I am leaving for San Diego tomorrow. I will be back home on Monday. Todd is having a summer BBQ and invited me to go. I decided to just go for the weekend, because it’s a busy time for both Todd and Vicki at work and they can’t take time off.

  13. Dianne-2, I meant to mention how sorry I am about Bruce. I wonder the same thing as Linda about why thew let him go for two weeks before doing something about the infection. I will keep him in my prayers.

  14. Mary, Matthew has been very helpful for you like Chad has been for me. We are both lucky to have such attentive sons.
I remember when you told us about your niece becoming transgender. It was quite a while ago. I imaging it’s hard for you and the family to remember to use the correct pronoun, but he is probably forgiving knowing it isn’t purposely done.
It’s about 4:30 am here and I am having trouble sleeping, so I turned on the tv as I am writing this. Last night the news kept breaking in on programs with updates about a man barricaded inside a house and shooting at officers. It started as a domestic dispute and the woman was able to get out of the house with the help of the Police, but the man was shooting and one of the officers was hit. It was still going on when I went to bed last night. The early news has announced that the 26 year old female officer that was hit, has died. They haven’t said anything about the shooter, but the incident is apparently over, so they either have him in custody or he’s dead. I don’t understand how things escalate to this point. It’s very sad!

  15. Hi.....OH BARB,,that’s so sad about the police officer. I always feel, safer with Todd being a detective and not on the streets but i worry about all the off duty he works. He’d like to become a Sargent and then he’d be back on the streets. So frightening. Thank you for having Bruce in your prayers. He got moved out of ICU today to PCU a step down from ICU. We’re going there again tomorrow. My niece said he was grumpy so that’s a good sign he’s getting better. We also wonder why that infection was allowed to get out of control. I think my sil neds to do some investigating. He could have died with this sepsis in him. Have a fun weekend.

Mary, well I'm glad you didn't lose money but it doesn’t sound like I should start packing for the trip you were taking us on if you won. Did you go to any other Shows? Oh boy, 107 does not sound fun to me at all. I would get sunburned!

JL, nope didn’t have to do any nudging this week. How’s your brother Doing? Is he out if the hospital? I hope they can get that thyroid taken care of soon. So many people sick. I so agree with you about getting some answers from nursing home! I wish I could get involved but I don’t think they’d listen to me when he has a wife.

I had lunch today with Todd and dinner with Emilee. It was nice getting to visit with both of them. Em is still looking for a job. She wants to continue it part time while she’s in school. She had her oil changed and the car stopped in front of the place. Tammy had it towed and long story short the other place forgot to put oil in after they drained 5-1/2 quarts out of it. She now needs a new engine but grease monkey took full responsibility for it. They are replacing the engine and got a rental car. Guy got fired as it was on video .

  16. Dianne, OMG, how could the guy forget to replace the oil he just drained? Good thing they have video! That’s a very expensive mistake!
I’m glad Bruce is improving. Prayers help.
I’m waiting for my shuttle. It should be here any minute. They texted me with a map showing a little van and it’s about a mile away. I probably won’t have time to post until I get home. Have a nice weekend. ❤️
