This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, HOOTERS! I hope everyone has a nice holiday. I will not be having a good time as I will be constantly consoling my dog who will be terrified. Last night was bad enough with some jerk close by intermittently setting off explosions. I just gave my dog a tranquilizer a few minutes ago as it always seems to take a long time to go into effect. I only gave her half of a pill and am hoping it will take the edge off without making her stagger. I really, really do not like this holiday at all.
Happy 4th of July, Owls. I hope you are enjoying the holiday.
JL, I know you aren’t enjoying this day/night. So sorry Ursula is having a hard time with the noise. I just talked to Todd and his dog get very stressed with the noise also. They have been taking him to Doggy Day Care at Pet Smart because they have a room that blocks out the sound. I think they pay $35 for an overnight stay. For them it’s worth it because Sakima really freaks out at the noise. Also, he is familiar with the staff because they take him there for day care a couple days a week when they go to work.
Mary, Sorry, too, for little Zoie. It wouldn’t be so bad here if the explosions were limited to just the 4th, but here it’s been going on all week, intermittently. Todd said the same was happening in San Diego. So, Sakima has not had a good week.
Dianne, Are you celebrating the 4th? We aren’t doing anything. My doctor emailed me and told me my urinalysis results showed that I have an infection, so Chad pick up a RX for me. I only have to take it for three days. I did have a fever last night, but it’s gone today. Chad went over to Arch’s for about an hour and watched their fireworks. They all had masks and stayed six feet apart. Our live is so exciting! LOL
SEASIDE, I hope you and Gidget are enjoying the holiday.
Hi SacBarb! Zoie survived the night. Once I got her out from under the bed, I held her until she fell asleep from exhaustion. They can legally use the fireworks until 11:00 tonight. She goes to the groomer tomorrow, so I am hoping she has a restful, uneventful night. I am still taking Queenie on her daily walks, morning afternoon & about 8:00 in the evening. I have been averaging 10,000 steps a day! Jim is not only having problems with his legs and breathing, but his right arm & shoulder are hurting. It was so bad, that I had to massage the areas, about 4 am. He was given a lotion, that doesn't seem to help, so I tried the stuff I used when I was working at GM. Best stuff ever! It seems to be helping him. It comes in a spray, lotion & in a roll-on tube. I have all 3 lol! it's "Bio Freeze" .
We stayed home all week end. I have just a few tomato & zucchini plants. Jim has no interest in the garden this year, so I have been trying to keep it watered & weeded. All the area that the neighbor plowed up has gone to weeds :( Jim feels terrible that I have had to do so much, but, it is what it is. Matthew has back and neck issues, which is why he can't hold an 8hr a day job. He has been driving school buses. His pay is spread out for the whole year. He sleeps in his lounger, He hasn't had a bed in his room for years. We have tried all kinds of mattresses, but none work, so we just took the bed out. He has some kind of arthritis & calcification in his neck. He does as much as he can here, with the mowing, yard trimming, and home repairs when needed. His just being here is a great comfort to me. Well, "Mr Max" was here a few days ago. Arrived just in time for supper. The a-hole brought a bunch of Basil plantings for us to plant! Jim told him that he couldn't do it, but Max wouldn't listen. Jim told him that the garden had gone to weeds and there was no place to put them. He said to plant them anyway. He claims there is no sun where he lives, too much shade! Jim told him to plant them in a pot and move them around to reach the sun. Nope, couldn't do it! He left them here. Thee plants were long and spindly and had been raised in water! He bought hydro plants! I couldn't just let them die, sooo I planted 12 in different areas in the garden, after hoe-ing a spot, and 3, in pots. The garden ones died almost immediately and the potted ones are kind of hanging on. That is the highlight of my life lol!
Hi...happy 4th weekend! It’s been pretty quiet around here. We did go to dinner with my uncle and wife last night at the Longhorn. I had a yummy rib eye. My second steak in a week! We hadn’t seen them since Christmas so there was a lot of catching up to do. I met barb for our outside lunch today. We kind of sat in shade but it was 93 degrees today and she won’t go in a restaurant with others inside. I thought I was going to melt during those two hours. I will admit I was pretty glad to get in my car!
Mary, how nice of you to plant Max’s basil. I probably would have tossed it personally. Did he have dinner with you? How late did he stay? Does he ever go to the casino with Jim? Probably doesn’t want to spend the $. I have bio freeze my Pt person recommended but have never used it. We had loud fireworks ..illegal...around here all night. Lots of people complaining about them but not much done about it I don’t think. Ow, that sound painful for Matthew. Did he go through Pt at one time? This arthritis is for the birds. The pain dr says that’s what is wrong with my back. I don’t know why actually we continue with shots but I guess he knows best...maybe. No meds have helped me at all either. Does he take anything for the pain that helps at all?
JL...is the coffee shop the one you’ve gone to in the past? It’s nice to get out some, isn’t it? It’s nice you’re such a good friend. My friend kathy’s anniversary is coming up to next month. I’ll see if I can get her out. Sometimes she just wants to do something with her grandson she’s raising n a special day. He asked her the other day if maybe she could get married again...that took her by surprise. How’s Ursula doing? I feel so bad for all your dogs.
Barb, that’s a good idea what your friend does with their dog. I never knew they had a soundproof room. I wonder if there were a lot of dogs there? It’s quiet here tonight. Ouch an infection! Well, that’s good you only have to take the meds for three days. I have a busy week ..Dermo tomorrow, mammo and bone density all this week. How was your dinner? I was going to make something in crockpot today but for once slept to late so I brought Mexican food home to him for his dinner.
Dianne, I am so sorry to bother you so early this morning! I have no idea how that happened! I was calling my Vet and asked to be transferred to the Groomer (attached). It rang and I tried leaving a message. Somehow it went to your phone! I forgot about the time change and called back to apologize. Sorry :( We are still not allowed in the building. We have to call to let them know we are there. I had to put Zoie in a little fenced in kennel on their porch. She was out there waiting, so Zoie wasn't out there long. I needed to order Zoie's chew stick from the Vet, so I had to make another call, order, and wait for them to bring them out to me. A pain in the arse! Most of our stores are no longer accepting cash. Must use a card. I had to use one to pay $.99 for a loaf of French bread! Getting crazy!
Tonight I am going to my school mates funeral "showing". 3 have passed this last week :( I realized all my mask were a bit whimsical, so a lady friend of mine quickly made a plain dark mask for me. Jim has been having a hard day so far. This heat really gets to him.
I was up early and worked outside before the heat set in. Ha! It was already hot when I went out there! Matt & I have been trying to prepare a place for the service men to place the Generator. Matt had to remove one of my beautiful evergreen bushes. It was rooted in so deep, that he needed to use the tractor to pull the roots out! He mowed the yard which usually takes a couple of hrs. We are both pooped!
Time to fold clothes and put away. Hope I didn't bore you guys with my mundane day lol!
Mary, I’m glad Jim told Max he couldn’t plant the basil, even though Max didn’t care what he said. He sure is a stubborn old man. Like Dianne said, I would have thrown them out, too. Maybe you could walk Queenie in the morning and evening and skip the walk in hot afternoon. It’s probably not good for either of you to be out walking in the heat of the day. Did the fireworks bother Queenie, too?
Dianne, The prime rib was pretty good, but I think I still like it in the oven better. Although, cooking it slowly and on low heat makes it cook more evenly throughout, so it was the same medium pink from end to end. We also had some fresh corn that he got from the grower. It was picked the day before and was really good. It’s my son’s dog that goes to the Pet Smart Doggy Day care. I think they put something on the walls just for the holiday because so many dogs get freaked out with the noise. I don’t blame Barb for not wanting to go inside the restaurant. The restaurants here are doing the distancing and staff are wearing masks, but people can’t eat with a mask on, so I won’t go into a restaurant either. We do have a lot of people here who refuse to wear masks, also. Every time Chad goes to the store he says a lot of people aren’t wearing them. Costco is the only store that won’t let anyone in the store without a mask, as far as I know.
JL, I hope Ursula is better after all the noise. Have you still been giving her the pill, since you said you are still hearing explosions? Todd has a thunder shirt for Sakima, but he said it doesn’t help that much. They put it on him anyway when they first started hearing the noise days before the 4th and after they got him back home.
Barb Well, the night of the 4th went off better than I had hoped. Ursula normally takes a Benadryl with her breakfast and dinner because of allergies. Last year I didn't give her the Benadryl because i didn't want her to have that on board along with the tranquilizer. Well, it wasn't helpful for the night of the 4th and the next day she was staggering and dopey eyed. So this year I gave her the normal Benadryl doses and gave her only 1/2 of the tranquilizer pill at about noon. She was still very bothered by the intermittent explosions in the afternoon but when the main event was happening after dark, she laid under the coffee table and after a while, actually went to sleep. Around midnight she came up on the couch with me even though the activities were still going on. I was able to get her to go outside at about 1:30 in between booms. We heard the last one at 3:00 when we went to bed. Yesterday she was perky and in good spirits. No staggering or any other hangover effects. I was very happy about that. I'm writing that combo down to remind myself for next year.
Speaking of taking the dog out.....Last night when we went out at about 11:00, we saw a coyote on our street. That's the second time this year. I've lived here for 50 years and this is the first year I've ever seen coyotes on my street.
Dianne Yes, it was the same local coffee shop that I've mentioned before. With that one exception to dine in with my friend on what would have been her anniversary, I don't plan on doing that again. I'm really not comfortable about it. It's a small establishment with booths and a counter. We sat in a booth so we were not 6 feet apart from each other. The best we could do is sit kind of diagonal from each other. It sounds like you are more comfortable about being seated inside restaurants.
93 is pretty darn hot, even outside in the shade. I hope you enjoyed your lunch and visit, anyway.
When you bring food home for Louis' dinner, what do you do for your own dinner. I made the WW vegetable soup and ate that for dinner for several days. I still have more and I should have frozen it but didn't think to do that. I'll be throwing it out now. I found out that my little older Android is not compatible with the latest WW update.
Mary It sounds like Jim isn't doing very well lately. I'm sorry about that.
Your accidental call to Dianne reminded me of the time my cat called someone in the middle of the night. The cat was unhappy that I had thrown him out of the bedroom for being a pain in the ass. As I lay in bed, I could hear him pawing at the table top push-button phone in the living room and then I heard the handset fall on the hardwood floor. I came stomping out of the bedroom swearing and just as I was slamming the handset down onto its cradle, I heard someone say "Hello?". Oops!
At my vet, they come out to the car and remove the animal and take it inside. When done, they return it to the car. Communications take place via the phone. This would not have been possible before cell phones, of course.
