~ Happy New Year ~

8 comments:

  1. A new year and a new blog. I have nothing to add to what I already wrote yesterday. I had an uneventful night at home watching a weird movie. I didn't even watch the ball drop in Times Square. I didn't toast in the new year, either. I hope that doesn't jinx things. I did have a cup of hot cocoa. I was wearing my formal attire, i.e., my long robe. LOL

Here's hoping that this year is much, much better than the last. I hope before this year is over, I'll be able to have dinner with my friends at the local restaurants or that I can once again sit at my local coffee shop and read my Kindle while eating breakfast. It's a small pleasure that I enjoy a lot.

Wishing you all a new year that is healthy and happy. (((HUGS)))

  2. JustLin. I understand what you mean. I don't usually go too many places, but I do miss my lunch dates with my old co-workers and an occasional solo lunch at our lovely coffee/ice cream shop. It is cozy and they make wonderful sandwiches

Spell check is having a ball with me here today. I seem to be rushing and misspelling lol!
I made home made pizza NYE like the guys wanted. No fancy dinner on NY day.
We have gotten some nasty weather. Rain turn to snow, turn to rain, turn to ice!
The roads are treacherous. We are hunkered down. I am glad wasn't driving the school bus this week! There will be plenty more nasty roads I am sure. We still have at least 3 more months to look forward to!

Zoie is loving the snow! She loves romping in it, me, not so much!

Let's hope & pray for an uneventful new year full of good things :)

  3. I was away all day yesterday. My girlfriend & I went to visit an old childhood friend of mine and ex,Gen Motors friend of both of us. She and her younger sister are in an assisted living home. They are both younger than me! Cindy has Parkinson disease and the Pam some auto immune disease, I forget what it is, but they are both unable to function on their own. Cindy is the one I have been closer to. Her large family (like ours) lived down the block from us, growing up. They lost a sis a few years back, I think diabetes related. A brother recently lost a leg due to diabetes. I used to visit Terry, their brother (my age)at a nursing home he had MS. He was a Vietnam Vet. He passed away last year. So much sadness in that family! Cindy had been living at home with her husband last year, in fairly good health. She stated having psychotic episodes
and bad shakes. She was still driving until she imagined there were people in the Jeep with her in her driveway as she was leaving. She jumped out leaving the Jeep running. It wound up in the neighbors yard. They called the police because she was running around being crazy, They managed to corral her and take her home, where they found her husband dead in his chair! He had been living on beer, cigs and potato chips for the last 3 weeks and refused any other food. She did not know he had died!
Of course there was an investigation because he was basically skin & bones! I had known about his "diet" and his weird ways for a long time so I was not surprised. We had known about all this, but we let her retell the whole thing. It seemed to be what she wanted, so we listened. She said she had been "seeing" others for a while. She is now on meds. Shakes pretty bad. So sad to see her that way after all the years she worked so hard, only to have so much happen in so short of time!
I'm telling you all this because I came home and was blasted with news from all sides about the Capital events. In perspective,I didn't give a dam!
I feel a bit better today. It is just a sad month for me. My SIL passed away a year ago today and my Sis passed away 4 yrs ago on the Jan. 22, our anniversary, and my Dad passed away Jan 10.
There, I have totally depressed all of you lol! Sorry, just had to vent!
Love you all! Stay safe! Take care of yourselves and don't any of you dare die this month!!

  4. Hi....time got away from me. I’m doing ok. I go to dr tmrw for a follow up apt on a few things plus the top of my leG is killing me. It’s making it even harder to walk. Went to friends house New Year’s Day for a visit and lunch. Saw my brothers family over the weekend too. That’s about it.

Mary, that is such a sad story about your friend. It’s nice you were able to visit her. Yes, that’s a lot of things to happen to a person. Sorry you’re having a sad month. Those anniversaries are always hard. I’ll try and stay healthy this month! I’m wishing we could get our covid shot. None are available right now around here. Are any of you getting any news on them?

JL, our restaurants are just opening this week at 25% only. Beats nothing. I went to that hut again yesterday with my friend. It’s kind of fun plus we’re all alone. My granddaughters are taking me to PF Chang’s next week for my Christmas present from last year. It’s barely open but I made reservations. Hopefully the weather will hold out as thiS is the third time we’ve tried to go.

Barb...did you and JL watch the bacheLor? It sure seems like that show is on a lot. I haven’t found anything too interesting to watch. We changed our cable and phone places to save some money. It’s been a huge hassle getting everything changed over. We had to get a new printer and Louis worked on it all day yesterday and couldn’t get it on WiFi. He called Canon today and they spent time with him finally getting it hooked up. I use the printer a lot...for recipes! Ok guys...quit laughing It’s in case I decide to cook something.

Seaside, I see Peyton is getting closer to The Hall of Fame. Elway took himself out of being our GM and now fans want Peyton to step in for the job. We haven’t had such good luck having a great quarterback being our GM so a little skeptical.

  5. Mary, feel free to vent here whenever you want. I, for one, feel like this is a safe place! January isn’t a great month for me either. My Dad died on The 8th and mis birthday was on the 30th. My parents anniversary was the 5th and they were married 65 years when he died. My sister will be 90 on the 12th, but sadly we won’t be celebrating in person with her. There are too many people close by that have COVID, so Chad is going to an Italian bakery to pick up some canoli to take to her along with whatever he cooks for lunch/dinner that day. He hasn’t decided yet.

Seaside, I ordered the shirts with the helmet. I hope they get here on time. I hate waiting! Now that the Raiders are done, we will be rooting for the Seahawks.

JL, our NYE was really boring, as usual. Years ago, when the kids were small, the neighbors got together on New Year’s Eve for a progressive dinner. Starting with cocktails at one house, walking to another house for salad, then another house for dinner, where we hired teenagers to clean up after so we could continue to another house for dessert and finally another house for the wind-up party and ringing in the new year. We did that for about 10 years, until families started moving away. It was really a lot of fun. My parents were visiting for a few of those years and they always brought all the fixings for pizza form their restaurant, so the first year, my very friendly Dad thought it would be a great idea to invite everyone to our house for pizza for an after the wind-up party. By that time, everyone was hungry again! So it became a ‘thing’ every year after that. My Mom wasn’t thrilled because she and I did all the work. Typical Italian family!

Dianne, I really thought the Broncos had that game in the bag, but the Raiders pulled it out! Not that it mattered, we are still out of it! So, as we like to say, there’s always next year!
I hope you and Louis are feeling much better.

  6. Seaside...so glad you’re feeling a little better. I hope it gets better each day. So glad you didn’t have covid!

Barb...I’ll better your sister loved her special bday meal. I hope after vaccines visiting will be ok again. It’s been so long. I’m watching the Seahawks game but it’s “looking” like the Rams might win. It’s at least been a decent game. I hoping for Cleveland to win tmrw night. It would be exciting for them. I’m kind of for the Rams on tonight’s game. Louis is glued to the tv all day and will be tmrw. Yes, we always say next year too...for the last five years. Gets discouraging after awhile especially after having Peyton for those few years. Your progressive dinner you used to do sounds so fun. I’ve never been to one of those. Things sure have changed for all of us on New Years Eve. I personally miss the party days!

Mary...We have been having snow off and on all day today so get ready. It’s cold out today. It supposed to get nicer starting tmrw. How’s your weather out there today?

JL....sounds like things are going to be closed down for awhile for you California people. I’ve been trying to get on a vaccine list but not great luck. Our dr isn’t giving them but gave us places to sign up. I’m hoping we will get contacted soon. I didn't think it would be this hard to get them.

Had my dr appt yesterday and got a cortisone shot in my thigh but it’s not working yet. My stress came back showing no blockages and Louis had his echo test yesterday snd got called today that all was good. So...good news finally...now if this leg would just get better I’d be happy! My oxygen was even good at dr without using it. I’m just using it at night regularly. Ok..that’s my medical report. Barb came over and we did Christmas decorations. Louis had done a lot before she got here but she’s a huge help carrying things down with him. I’m not much help except I do wrap the things for the boxes. We then ordered bbq for late lunch. Hope you’re all having a good day.

  7. Dianne, The weather map shows the snow missing us. We have had cold nights, down to 8*
Our Christmas eve snow is still sticking around due to the cold temps. I love having
clear roads! It is good to see that you and Louis are doing better. I especially like that your oxygen levels are better.

I did a lot of running around yesterday. I took my recyclables, got gross-eries, and did a bit of banking. Our banks, lobbies are now open. I tried several times to get my Jeep washed. Due to the sunny day, tons of people had the same idea, so just got gas and headed home.
Yesterday was my "off day" from my IF (intermittent fasting). Now back to one meal a day. It is surprising how easy this is for me.It even curbs my "sweet tooth". I have lost inches and about 10lbs since the day after Thanksgiving. I may look svelte by spring lol! I enjoy reading all the IF people on the private web site on FB. Very encouraging. Many have taken before and after pics of themselves. Totally amazing results just from eating one meal a day "OMAD".

SacBarb, I see Jan. sucks for you too :(
Canoli!! Yay Chad!! Aren't sons awesome?

JustLin, As of this week, we still cannot eat at restaurants, take-out only. We usually have pizza take-out a couple times a month. I make home made other times. Pizza is a reg Fri night staple here lol! Then there is Taco Tues. and Hamburg Sat.
Today will be roasted chicken. How exciting my life is lol!

Seaside. Our Lions suck! Nuff said lol!
I have not watched a lot of football this year, just Lions, and they are done! Jim watches all games. Keeps him occupied lol! Zoie and I have been going on walks most days. She loves it outside, even in the cold! Sometimes I have to drag her in!
I know it is good for her, but our snow is packed down and icy and hard for me to keep up with the little brat!
