Mrs. Donovan was walking down O'Connell Street in Dublin when she met up with Father Flaherty.
The Father said, 'Top o' the mornin' to ye! Aren't ye Mrs. Donovan and didn't I marry ye and yer hoosband two years ago?'
She replied, "Aye, that ye did, Father.'
The Father asked, 'And be there any wee little ones yet?'
She replied, 'No, not yet, Father.'
The Father said, 'Well now, I'm going to Rome next week and I'll light a fertility candle for ye and yer hoosband.'
She replied, 'Oh, thank ye, Father.' They then parted ways.
Some years later they met again. The Father asked, 'Well now, Mrs. Donovan, how are ye these days?'
She replied, 'Oh very well, Father!'
The Father asked, 'And tell me, have ye any wee ones yet?'
She replied, 'Oh yes, Father! Two sets of twins and six singles, ten in all!'
The Father said, 'That's wonderful! And how is yer loving hoosband doing?'
She replied, 'E's gone to Rome to blow out yer fookin' candle!'
That blog was very funny. I’m just popping in to see what everyone is up to, but I see I’m the first one. There’s not much going on here. I’m still dealing with Citibank and my sister’s credit card. They said the investigation is closed, but they haven’t returned any of her money. They tried to just return it to her account, but I had to close that account because it was also hacked. I put all her money into an account under my name to protect it, so the bank just returned it to Citibank. I told Citibank to send a check, but so far it hasn’t been done. Now they’re telling me we’re late with a payment because there’s a $440+ balance due on the account. Every month they add interest and late fees, so it’s mounting! I am so sick of this! Every time they call about the late payment, I tell them we don’t owe anything and ask about the money to be returned. I get transferred around at least four times, and wait on hold each time and it’s very difficult to talk to these people who don’t speak English that well. I really just want to scream!
ReplyDeleteI hope you all have a good holiday weekend planned. We’re just staying home and Chad is going to cook tri tip.
Hi….barb, your bank things have been going on forever. I’d be frustrated too. Don’t even get me started on non English speaking people. Every place u call and they can barely understand me either. Your Labor Day meal sounds good.
ReplyDeleteWe r in steamboat and have been here since Monday. I’m pretty bored as there’s not much to do. We drove an hour to meet some friends for lunch yesterday…..a long lunch. It made the afternoon fun. It’s very expensive up here. We went to a drive thru chicken place Monday night. Bill was $58..no drinks. I about fainted fainted and that was happy hour for prices for food. Two of us. I’ve been checking out other places. Barb comes up today for two days so that will be fun. I did start reading so that’s helped. We go home Sunday. They did not have a handicap room and we made these reservations six mo ago. At least bars by toilet I’m not thrilled with our time share. It’s been in low 80’s but we do have heat on this am. I’ve been using the walker up here.
I’m anxious to go to Branson first part of Oct. i hope Louis can do it. He’s in a lot of pain. He will get back shots before we leave. I get them yet again next wed. They never work on me but trying some new places for shots this time. Tammy’s anniversary was yesterday but neither are feeling good with colds she had a good interview the other day so we shall see how that works out for her.
There’s nothing else new. Just wanted to drop in and say hi
I have been busy with mundane house work crap.
ReplyDeleteI picked up 6 doz sweet corn cobs from a friend. I froze some of hers last year an d it was wonderful! I may have over extended myself this year lol! It is a lot of work. I have 3 more doz. to do today. I husked and trimmed so much corn, that my one finger started to spasm. I need to finish while the corn is fresh and still juicy.
Dianne, that plcc e you are at sounds more expensive then Vegas where burgers are $25! Sorry that you two are still hurting! So much for our "Golden Years!"
SacBarb, Sure wish I lived closer to you! I would definitely crash your meal :)
I too have had trouble with heavy accented phone peeps! I always ask to be transferred to their supervisor or ask for a person from our country!
I have tickets to see Ringo at our Casino on the 30th. I will tell you later about THAT fiasco lol!
Have a safe and glorious Holiday week end!! Even you peeps, lurking in the bushes :)
Barb There's nothing exciting going on here, either. I don't know how you will ever resolve that issue with Citibank. You may just have to hire a lawyer or some kind of consumer advocate to get it straightened out. I can't imagine how stressful this must be for you.
ReplyDeleteThe other day in the early evening when it was just starting to get a little dark, I was on my front deck hosing off the front windows when my front porch light made a loud sound like a "pop". It was louder than what might happen when a light bulb blows and, in fact, the light bulb is fine. Normally the light automatically comes on when it's dark enough outside and it detects some kind of movement. It was dark enough that my movements made it come on. I only have it set for 1 minute at a time so it had gone off then come back on again due to my movement and that's when it blew. I just replaced this light fixture in February. Ugh! I have someone coming tomorrow to look at it but I think I will have to replace it.
My daughter is driving down from Oregon with her 3 dogs tomorrow. On Friday she and a friend fly to Ireland for 2 weeks and I will be dog sitting. Unless she goes to visit a friend this Monday and Tuesday, I guess she will be watching the 2 night Bachelorette finale with us.
Dianne On Tuesday, Jane and I went to see "Three Thousand Years of Longing" starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It was a very good movie. I think you and your friend Barb would enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMy other friend, Kathy, and her husband recently spent a week at their favorite resort in Puerta Vallarta when she had a mishap on the last day and within the last few minutes, actually. She uses a scooter to get a round while there and she was waiting in the lobby for their taxi to arrive to take them back to the airport. At some point she decided to move from the seat she was sitting on back to the scooter. When she did that, the scooter moved and she fell on top of it, fracturing two ribs and hitting her head hard on a giant decorative vase. Anyway, she decided to continue home rather than go to the hospital there. The resort people were great with helping her into the taxi and they had people waiting for her at the airport. They wheeled her through customs, etc., and took her to her seat on the plane in the wheelchair. She also had a lot of edema and she is in the hospital here now. She is doing better but her ribs sure do hurt when she breathes. This is on top of the fact that she already needed surgery on a shoulder.
Mary Oh, my! 6 dozen corn cobs to husk and trim? That is a lot. No wonder your finger was starting to spasm. Does some of this corn turn into tortillas?
ReplyDeleteThat will be fun to see Ringo! Have you seen other stars perform at your casino? Nice to have such a top notch act so close to home.
It's going to be super crowded at my local beach this weekend as the weather is going to be especially warm inland. That means major traffic on the coast highway and people parking wherever they can as there will be no room left at the beach parking lot. Our weather on the coast is considerably cooler than it is inland so they all come here for relief. These waters are too cold to actually swim in. You can maybe splash around a little with your lower legs but all the surfers wear wetsuits.
We r home from steamboat. It was ok. There’s just not much to do there unless you r a hiker, biker or rafter. We got there about 1 on Monday picked expensive drive thru chickeN strips and wings for $58! Then I was bored all afternoon. I think if we wouldn’t have been our friends Thursday and barb hadn’t taken a day off work to come up we might have gone home in a day or two. It got better. We took a beautiful long drive on wed and stopped at a little general store for some ice cream. Thurs we met our friends about an hour away and had a decent long lunch with them on Thursday. I took a jewelry project with me and we finished it on Tuesday. Barb and I got in a little shopping and a drive to the falls on Friday. We couldn’t hike up but barb did and enjoyed it. The weather was perfect. No colors changing yet….that will be really pretty but it’s a three hour drive so we won’t be going there. We got home Sunday afternoon. I really enjoyed barb being there. I started reading where the crawdads sing. Has a. Nooner read it or seen the movie? I loved the book. I couldn’t put it down and finished it last night. I’ll probably see the movie when it comes on Amazon. I don’t know why I don’t read at home but always do on vacations. I love to read too. Early dinner today with my two uncles and wives at outback. We try to meet on holidays since none of us have anything to do and it’s fun.
ReplyDeleteJL, I feel terrible about your friend. The scooter must not have been turned off. When I’m using one at the store, I always turn it off even to stand up to get something as I had it move once too. Does she rent the scooter at the hotel or is it hers? I hope she’s going to be ok. Is she in the hospital because of her edema? Does she use a scooter at home? That’s so darn scary. I’ll bet with those ribs she hurts bad. It will be fun to see your daughter for a couple of days. How fun that she gets to go to Ireland! That will be a great trip. She’s so lucky to have you to dog sit. Hope u don’t have to get whole light replaced. Do you wash your windows with the hose? Do u dry them too or do they air dry?
Mary, exciting I get to see Ringo. So what’s the story with it? Will Jim go with u? I’m going to see Keith urban sept 16 with Tammy and two other friends. We will use the wheelchair for that outing. We’ve seen him once before and loved his concert. Boy…that’s a whole lot of corn you’re working on. I’ll bet it tastes great though. Do u have one of those corn husker things? You’re like a little farm girl. How’s your weather? We were up to 93 and hot today. I’m looking forward to fall but sure not to winter. I think I liked summer more this year since I’m really not out in the heat. Snow=yuck! I can deal with the cold but not that dang snow.
ReplyDeleteMy cousins from Texas went on a two week land and cruise trip last week with another couple. It’s been postponed twice because of Covid. The we’re enjoying that land trip and we’re ready to go into Denali but had to get tested for the cruise. They both tested positive for Covid. They had just gotten cold symptoms. Canada won’t let you in and they wouldn’t test them again. They put them in a hotel in Fairbanks for a five day quarantine and will get released this Thursday. They r getting food delivered From hotel. It was his bday that Covid day too. My cousin Judy was devastated and sobbing. They’ve planned so long for this trip. They only had one night the cold was worse but they r feeling ok now. Or pretty good. I think they may rent a car and do some Alaska sightseeing since they r there anyway. They will be reimbursed but have to pay $495 per night for hotel room. Crazy. All cruise and airlines will be refunded. I felt so bad for them.
Barb, I guess you’re all ready for bachelorette night or are u watching it? How was your yummy Labor Day dinner? It sounded so good. Hope your holiday has been good. How’s Chad doing with the no smoking? U should really see that movie when it comes on tv. It was really good. Our next trip in Branson for Texas tenor fan week with my cousins. We leave around oct 9 I think for a week. Louis is having a horrible time sitting with his hip/back. He ordered a cushion to sit on when out in restaurants. He started in wanting to get surgery before cruise again. He thinks he will be well in a couple of months and ready to drive 2900 miles round trip to Galveston. I get so tired of going over this with him….causes arguments. Even the dr said wait until after cruise. He’s scheduled for shots before Branson and cruise.
Well this is a huge novel and I know I’ve repeated myself about our mtn trip but too lazy to go back and change it or proof so bear with me. I get back shots AGAIN on this wed. Hope they work this time and hope they can find a vein the first stick to put me out. Night all I had to break this novel in half as it wouldn’t let me post whole thing at once!,
Hi All!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I finally made it here! Life has been busy with Bri starting Kindergarten, the Kentucky State Fair, going out to see or stay with my Mom in Bardstown and working! My house has been a pig sty pretty much all summer. I finally cleaned it really good on Sunday. I have a little Dachsund I am watching all week. She is the sweetest dog and her name is Ruby. She is 11 years old and gets along with Karen & Karlo. I had to clean really good because she will find every last crumb and cat food pieces she can lol. Very food motivated!
Mom is doing well. Still finding it hard to find the right words at times but getting better.
She keeps herself busy with her house, dog and kitties. So glad her physical was not affected by the stroke.
Mary - that is a lot of corn! I was wondering too if you would make corn tortillas with it? Or tamales?
I hope you had fun in Vegas!!
Dianne - I hope the shots work! So glad you have so much to look forward to doing!! So fun!!
Barb - that has to be frustrating with Citibank! I hope you get it resolved soon. It is very hard to understand and bridge the language barrier when talking to people with heavy accents. My Mom had a ct scan. She told me it was Sept 1, came into town Thursday for it. I drove her downtown and even called the doctor’s office to verify what floor to go to! We got there and it is scheduled for Sept 21! So we had a trial run. Mom was so frustrated and said that she could not understand the person on the phone when they gave her appt information because of them having a thick accent. I hope you get it resolved soon for your sister’s sake and your sanity sake!
ReplyDeleteJL- How nice to get to dogsit and that your daughter is going to Ireland!! I hope she has a great time!
Dianne - so sorry for your cousins family and the positive covid tests. So many good things ruined by covid. I am SO over it! I am sure they were very sad about all those wonderful plans ruined.
Okay, broke this up into two because I had to go back and look at who wrote what!
I hope everyone has a great week
Here is my "Ringo ticket" story!
ReplyDeleteI went to our local Casino events site and ordered my ticket, they put up their ticket sellers site and I ordered my ticket, not realizing that there was another Michigan even this month for him. I got an email confirming my ticket. It was then I noticed it was for a Casino no where near where I live! Somewhere near Detroit! I immediately emailed the box office and was told here was no refunds for this! I never buy insurance for tickets, but did this time. Still I had to wait and see if they could sell my ticket to someone else. Meanwhile, I bought a ticket to the Casino near me. I kept calling the first box office and got no where as far as information on my charges, so I went to my cc and had the charge stopped. Not knowing if it would go through. This was 4 months ago! I finally got an email asking for my authorization last month, to transfer the ticket, which I did. Whew! Out of that mess and into another! I have been trying all month to download my ticket with no luck! I emailed and called (on hold forever!)with no luck! I finally noticed the "live chat" on their site and got a real person. I told her my problem. I took about 2 days and I now have mt ticket to his sold out concert! What a mess!
Lesson learned! I will check and double check my ticket info. before hitting the "Buy" tab!!
Wow Mary….what a pain with your ticket. Glad it all worked out. Tammy and I r going to Keith urban next week. Haven’t been to a concert for awhile and ready to go.
ReplyDeleteBev…so glad your moms doing well. I was just thinking about her and how she was doing. Does she drive or not? What a pain on the appt. I can’t believe how many places you call nowadays where you can’t understand the person. I hear roosters in the background too a lot. Can’t believe Bri is in school already. How does she like it? These kids are all growing up so much.
My Dr called and told me to come in for flu shot so I’ll do that next week. I go anyway one day. We have had 99-100 Almost every day for weeks. We’re breaking on kinds of records. Today is a cold of 70’s and tmrw and 60’s. Everyone is so excited abut it. A few years ago it was snowing on this day! I’ll take the heat any time. I’m looking at possibly getting a new mattress. I hAve an adjustable one now. Last week on our trip the mattress was much lower and so much easier on my legs. I’m just trying to justify buying a new mattress when there is nothing wrong with the current one. Oh well
JL..how are you doing with the dogs? I’ll bet u r enjoying them. What’s new with you?
Barb, I hope you have air conditioning at your house. I see you’re really the heat there. Well, football kicked off last night. I even sort of watched the game. Broncos play Monday night so u can all watch our debut of our qB russel Wilson. Should be a decent games as we r playing his team he just left the Seahawks. I’ve been up since 3:30. Am. I just kept waking up so finally got up. It’s been a long morning. I’ll bet I take a nap this afternoon.
Seaside.l..hope all is well. Miss hearing from u on the blog. Check in soon
Just checking in " HOOT HOOT HOOT!!" All is well here in rainy Michigan!
