Logic cont.......

 by Dianne

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note and posted on the apple tray: 'Take only ONE. God is watching.’

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.

A child had written a note, 'Take all you want. God is watching the apples….'

  1. You have all been very quiet!
Not much going on around here until last night.
I was pulling out of our driveway, taking Zoie for her usual country road ride. I was about to pull out when I noticed an elderly gentleman walking down our road. He looked a bit disheveled, and I was a bit leery. I pulled back into our drive and closed the garage door from my car. Jim was not home. I waited until the man passed our driveway and pulled out. I took a good look at him and noticed he looked confused and would wander into the road. There was traffic coming, so I waited and then pulled up next to him and asked him if he was ok. He looked so tired. He mumbled that he was ok. Well, I didn't believe him. I went to my neighbor next door up the hill from us and honked until someone came out. His Father had recently died of dementia and Alzheimer. He had wandered off a few times, so I knew he could help this poor guy. Last I looked, He was walking down to meet the man who was having trouble getting up the hill. I continued to go for our ride. A couple hours later my neighbor called and told me they had called 911 and a State trooper came. The found out he lived with his daughter about 3 miles from us near the dam. The officer drove him home.
I was so relieved, It was starting to get dark and who knows what would have happened to him!
How can you not notice your ill Father is missing! It must have taken him hrs walking as slow as he was going.
Well, it's pizza Friday so I am off to knead some dough.

  2. Mary I've come to join you on your branch.

That was so nice of you to get help for that poor old man. It could have ended badly but thanks to you and your neighbor up the hill, he was delivered home safely. It must be so scary to be lost and confused.

Have you seen the rain related problems they've been having in Vegas. Flash floods and rain coming through casino roofs? Yikes! I hope none of that happens during your upcoming visit.

I had the grocery store do my shopping today because my list included a case of bottled water and i have that rotator cuff issue with my left shoulder. Anyway, I scheduled it for a 3:00 pick up. I decided to get lunch at the coffee shop in the same shopping center. Since I was finished with lunch at 2:00, I went to the drug store for a few thing and was back to my car by 2:30. I figured the groceries would be ready soon so I sat in my car and read on my Kindle. Unfortunately, instead of getting the text that my order was being prepared, I got a text saying they were running behind schedule. I decided to stay rather that go home and come back later. My order wasn't ready until 3:30 and they weren't able to get two items on list, including the water! Damn! I should have made note that a different brand would be okay but I hadn't so I had to go into the store to the get the water. A worker did help me with it so that was good. It took me a bunch of trips to get everything unpacked out of my car. Fortunately, the Plantar Fasciitis I've been dealing with for the last few days wasn't acting up too terribly. Geez, it sucks to get old. And now I feel exhausted. LOL I'm happy that I have leftovers to heat up for dinner.

Jane came over on Tuesday and we finished watching the last to parts of a 3 part documentary about Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. It was very good. We each heated up on individual leftovers and ate dinner together. On Wednesday, she and I and another friend went to lunch together and a really nice restaurant that's been around for many, many years. It's definitely not cheap so we don't go there very often. Jane and I don't see the other friend very often as she lives in a different county so there was lots of catching up to do. Thursday I had dinner at Kathy's house with her and her husband, She didn't cook for a change. We ordered Italian food to be delivered and it was my treat. That's the leftovers I have for tonight. As you can see, my social life totally revolves around food.

  3. Barb I'm trying really hard not to read any spoilers regarding Bachelorette.

  4. JL I haven’t read any Bachelorette spoilers either, although I have seen an ad on TV that looks likes there’s more drama for Rachel. I feel badly for her. She seems to be getting the bad end of each of her dates. I hope the producers never have this format again. It certainly has not been successful, imo!
It’s nice that you’re able to visit and share meals with your friends. Sheenah came over to do a mani/pedi for me yesterday. We were talking about how it brings some normality back into our lives, except for the fact she is coming to me instead of me going to her shop. But catching up on our lives, kids, etc. made it seem like old times. It’s hard to believe we’ve been holding hands for 36 years. LOL

Mary, That man is very lucky you saw him and helped him get back home. It’s scary to even think about what could have happened to him. When are you going to Vegas? It’s been a long time since you’ve been. Is school back in session yet and Matthew driving the bus? I remember when I was in elementary school. I went to Catholic school and my best friend’s Dad used to drive our school bus. We all loved that man, but we also gave him such a hard time. We were so noisy that sometimes he would have to yell out “quiet” and for five minutes or so, no one would talk. He had a seat on his left side where we took turns sitting and were in charge of pulling a lever that activated a left turn arrow. There was no such thing as a turn signal yet. Wow! I’m really old!
How is Zoie? I remember reading she was sick a while ago.

Dianne, How are you and Louis feeling? You haven’t mentioned Kayla and Em in a while. How are they doing?

  5. Ok ok…scoot over so I can get on the branch too! Here i am. I don’t know where Ive been but here now. I’ve been battling a horrible toothache since Friday. I called dentist Friday night and finally she prescribed an antibiotic and pain pill. I’m still having bad pain. I’m taking pain pills when I’m supposed too I don’t go In until wed. Go in tmrw for my back shots .. I have to fast until 2:30. I’m not looking forward to it. I have a four hour window to see if it takes . I sure hope so. Haven’t been doing much lately since my cousins left. I get nails done at 9am tmrw so early morning. I was up at 3:30am today. I will finish writing tmrw as I’m falling asleep right now. Night.

  6. Ok ok here imam. I’m sorry I’ve not been good about coming on. This toothache and shots have had me so down and out. I had my back shots yesterday of lidocaine and they didn’t work. Actually, my back and leg felt worse I had four hours to notice an 80% change. Nope nothing. Dr was supposed to call today but didn’t so I don’t know if they will even give me next set. I don’t think they will since I didn’t pass the first trial. I go to dentist tmrw and have a feeling that three teeth will be pulled. I’m dreading going. Louis will take me. I canceled Ww and my lunch obviously. So that’s my interesting life. Tammy’s company has had a couple of big lay offs. They’ve gone from 1000 employees to 300. Tammy decided not to take the lay off pkgs but took a lower paying position of about $20,000 a year less but she’ll keep her 401k and insurance. I think as of today she’s doubting her decision. She doesn’t know what to do for work each day. I feel so bad and worried about her. They moving her from one fire to another. She’s gone from manager to employee having to clock in again. Anyway, those r many things that have distracted me.

Barb, you asked about Kayla and Emilee. Kayla still has her nice boyfriend and hopefully that will last. She’s still at the same salon as she started in but thinking about moving as the pay is not great. Em will graduated from college in social work in December. She’s had her boyfriend for five years. He’s in his last year of college for sports medicine in Oklahoma. He did work all summer..finally. He’s not the most ambitious person.

Todd and the boys are doing good. My middle grandson is off to school for his second year. Youngest still in high school and oldest (22). Drives for a dairy the last three years. I still think the kids party too much! I try to zip it around them. Louis took his car in today for a problem but it hopefully it’s still under warranty. He has to leave it for a couple of days. We’ve finally had rain the last two days and cooler temps. It’s been nice. Barb,,you r very fortunate that your hair lady will come to your house. How long r u going to grow your hair? I’m growing mine too but too much longer. I’m at the stage where I’m trying to not get it cut. My hair is pretty blond with highlights now too but I like it.

JL, sound like you r having fun with your friends and eating! Is t it nice to have a group of friends? I had another close friends husband die suddenly from sepsis last Monday. Went to er Sunday night and died at 10 the next am. I have known them for years. They live in Texas now. So sad. This really hasn’t been a good year with losing so many friends so suddenly. I’m glad u keep busy. I think I’ve asked u this before but do you go the beach and just sit there very often? I’d like to live by a beach with no snow!

Mary, how fun you’re going to Vegas soon. It will be a fun get away for you. If you’d come her and visit we have gambling in the mountains about an hour from here. We’re going to steamboat springs near the end of the month over Labor Day weekend. I’m anxious to go away but have no idea what we will do there for six days. It’s actually a ski resort bit popular in the summer. Louis sent me a website for the area….”things to do if handicap”. It was things like sit by a river, sit by the mountains….Boring things. My friend just came home from there today and said downtown has no parking to go to shops. Hopefully we can go to a couple. Barb is coming up for a night or two so that will give us a break.

Well, I think that’s about the catch up on my life. Been doing lunches and taking pain pills for tooth. I’d appreciate a prayer or two that tmrw isn’t going to be miserable. Thank u

  7. Dianne, I’m sorry you are having these issues that are causing you so much pain. I pray every day for all my wonderful owls and your families. I’ll throw in an extra prayer that your pain will subside. I don’t think I have any influence though, because I’ve been praying that my fibromyalgia pain will subside an so far no luck!
I’m glad to hear that Kayla and Em and the boys are all doing well. My kids are all doing pretty well, too. Chad has secretly quit smoking. He told me about a month aGo that his doctor gave him a new RX that may affect his sleep, but not to
worry about it and it would probably be temporary. He didn’t want to talk about it, so I didn’t press it. Then I noticed he wasn’t going outside to smoke when he was doing that 10 or more times a day. I figured the ned med must be to suppress his nicotine cravings. I still haven’t talked to him about it, but I am very happy he finally decided to do it. He did quit after his heart surgery, but little by little he started back again until he was back to the level before the surgery.
I’m sure it was a hard decision for Tammy to take such a huge cut in pay, but not losing those benefits is a plus. I hope her responsibilities are less, also.

JL, I watched the whole Password show last night, but Jimmy Fallon was really bugging me. I used to love the old show and really was hoping the reboot would be as good, but I don’t think I’ll be watching it.
My son, Todd, called me on Sunday to tell me he has registered to be a Big Brother to an underprivileged boy. He’s been assigned to a 13 year old and will meet him this week. Todd said his New Years goal ( instead of resolution) is to be less selfish this year and contribute to the community. He’s a little nervous about taking on this role, since he’s the youngest brother and has no kids. I think he’ll do well.

Mary, what’s up? Are you in Vegas?

  8. Well, yesterday was an interesting day. I went to dentist at 9;30 and was there until 3:30. Louis took me and then went home. Hood thing he didn’t wait. I ended up getting the back molar pulled. It was cracked so it was like pulling two teeth. She had quite a time getting the second half out. The next tooth was part of a bridge so Judy automatically came out without being pulled and the third was either going to need a root canal and a crown. After she got it all out it ended up I didn’t need a root canal. They make the crowns right there so I didn’t have to get a temporary. $1350 later I left in pain. Last night wasn’t fun. I’m better today. I ended up with a bone graph and stitches. Plus it killed my legs and back laying on the dentist chair for so long.. my dentist called this afternoon to see how I was doing. She ordered me more pain pills just in case with the weekend coming up.
I had hair done today and then went to Tammy’s and brought lunch. I was finally able to spend time talking with her about job situation. She normally gets a bonus of $15 per file. New dept gives 3 cents a file. She thought it was a joke but nope. I think she wishes she would have taken the six month buyout. I think she changes her mind every day. It’s been hard for her. She’s diligently looking for something else. She applied for a part time travel agent working out of her home so that might be a fun second job. We shall see. My kids have always been good workers since they were young .

Mary, have a great time in Vegas. I sure hope you have some good meals and win bucks. R you going to any shows? Maybe I can talk Jim into using a chair going home.

Barb, that’s nice what Todd is going to do. I’ll bet he will enjoy it and have some bonding time with a young boy. We haven’t watched password yet but recorded a couple of shows. What was bugging u about Fallon? We have been watching his nighttime show some lately. He’s not so into politics as he used to be but we hardly know anyone on his show. That’s great. CHad quit smoking. I hope he continues on that path. Thanks for the prayers. I pray for all of you too.

    Bev, seaside come post soon.

  9. Dianne, my oh my you sure jump from one pain to another! You need to catch a break! I feel so bad for you! I went to one show. I love watching dancers so I went to see Derek Hough from Dancing with the stars. The show was fast paced and wonderful! The vid I put on FB was him dancing with his wife/girlfriend? She is beautiful and a terrific dancer. All the the gals were great. I couldn't keep my eyes off of their muscular legs & thighs lol! Oh to be young & fit!
We only ate once at a restaurant. The other time we ate at their food court which was expensive!
One morning I had a delicious egg & ham crepe. $18 with no drink!

Barb. I sure wish Jim would quit smoking! He just doesn't seem to want to even try. He has cut back a bit.
Jim had to take many walking breaks coming and going at the airports. I tried my best to be patient so he would not feel bad and not take the breaks. I was very afraid on the plane coming back. He felt like he wasn't getting any air from ceiling air port. I thought he was going to have to ask for oxygen! Luckily I kept his meds & breathing spray in my purse.
I wanted to drive home(70 miles), but he insisted on driving! Unfortunately our on-ramp to the freeway was shut down, so He had to find an alternate route. Oye Vey!! He kept stopping in the middle of the road to look for signs to the free-way. A few time he wanted to make wrong turns. I bit my tongue and gently told him "not that way!" Thank goodness there wasn't much traffic that time of night, and no rain! He has been sleeping off and on all day. He claims he is ok, but he just doesn't look good to me. What's a person to do?

All in all, I enjoyed myself. I went out to the pool a couple of times. I can't believe they charge $45 resort fees to use it!

    Today is Queenie's 5th birthday :)
Zoie was sure glad to seem me!

  10. Barb That is great that Chad is quitting smoking. It was 16 years for me last March. I'm so glad I did it. I didn't get an Rx to help with the cravings but the nicotine lozenges (such as Commit) really helped me out. I weaned off of cigarettes onto the lozenges and then from the lozenges to Altoids and finally off of those, too. LOL My husband would purposely quit smoking on January 1st, take a 3 month break, then start on April 1. Used to drive his boss (police chief) crazy that he was able to do that every year without any angst. Eventually, he stopped restarting. He stopped well before I did.

That is so great that Todd is going to be a Big Brother. Has he met the boy, yet? And good for him for having a New Year's goal rather than a resolution. I like that idea.

I haven't been able to play my games on FB lately and it was really annoying me. I ended up connecting to tech support online (for $9.98) and, long story short, he found out it is an issue with the Chrome browser. I can play the games fine using Edge. So, that's fine with me. I can go back and forth between browsers. I'm just happy to be able to play the games again.

  11. Dianne OMG! I feel so bad for you having to go through all that dental stuff and being in that chair for so long. How miserable! I hope you are feeling much better now.

It's too bad about Tammy's work situation but it's good she still has benefits. My friend who likes to cook (Kathy) is a retired travel agent and ran her own agency. She used to get a lot of travel perks. They probably don't do that as generously as they used to.

Oddly enough, I never go to the beach. I used to take the kids once in a while when they were little. I've never been a big fan of sand but I do like watching the ocean. I used to walk my dog along the levee by the ocean in the northern part of town. It was nice to walk on a path while still being right there next to the sand and ocean.

BTW, I notice in your photos that your highlights have made your hair blonder. It looks really nice.

  12. Mary Jim was stopping in the middle of the road! OMG! I am so glad you got home safe and sound. It sounds like driving with Jim is dangerous now. Does Matthew ever go anywhere with Jim and, if so, what does he think about Jim's driving? BTW, thanks for posting that article about Matthew. That was nice.

What's the deal with the hotel charging $45 to use the pool? Did they always do that or is it to keep the riff-raff out? The Derek Hough show looked like it would be fun. He and his fiancee look great dancing together. She's so pretty.

Belated birthday wishes to Queenie. So did Zoie sleep all by herself while you were gone?

I kept needed to get air put in my back tire every 2-3 months so I finally made an appointment to have it looked at and repaired. It was a nail! I got gas recently at my local station and it was $5.49/gal (cash). That's a lot better than the $6.69/gal I paid earlier this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Justlin, Matthew WON'T ride with Jim lol! He is ok around places he knows, like Casino, Dr,Pharmacy, VFW etc. He does let me drive if we are going to an unknown place, like an out of town wedding venue.
Zoie always does good with Matthew. Unfortunately there was a storm one day/night. She slept between Matt's legs on the Lazy Boy!
About the resort fees. I'm not sure why the charge, since you need your room key to enter the area. You may be right about the "riff-raff, but I still made it in LOL!!!!!

Our gas has gone down under $4.00 by a few cents.

My Cousin, Sally passed away early this morning. She is from my Father's side. This is the 5th sibling to pass, 3 in the last 2 yrs. 4 from cancer. My cousin Hope, passed a year ago on this month. I believe there are three sisters left. Sal was the fun one of the family. Very sad.

You know I love the ocean/water. I live in the middle of Michigan, surrounded by lakes, and rarely go to them.Crazy lol!

  14. Hi guys…..thanks for posting. Mary, our gas has gone down to $3.59 gal. We r going to steamboat tmrw for a week at time share. It’s a mtn ski town and populate summer place. It’s about three hours away. Hopefully we wont have to get gas there. I’m be been checking out restaurants and menus….I’ll be darn if I’m paying $27 for a hamburger. We will have things for breakfast and lunch if we need it. I think we will do some happy hours for our dinner. Louis has called every month to be sure it was a handicap and this week they said they don’t have handicap rooms. They’d better. I hate this time share now! I would love to see the show you went to. I really like him. Nice that his fiancée can dance like him. Oh man, I would have been scared to death riding with Jim. You r brave. So sorry about your cousin. My friend collapsed and had to get a pacemaker last week. Too much sadness. I too can’t believe the hotel charges for the pool when u r staying there. Rip off! Watching Pittsburgh against Detroit right now. Not to pretty of a game. Fourth quarter 3-16 not great in Detroits favor.

Jl, I would love to live by the ocean. I’m wouldn’t go in anymore but I’d sure love to sit by it. Is it a swim beach by you? Boy, your gas is crazy expensive. Glad it’s better here since I’m driving so much. I’m not even packed just food and snacks not good for me. I will start soon! Glad u got your tire fixed. I might need new ones for winter. I hope not….too expensive. Barb is coming up this week for two days. I’m glad she’s coming.

Barb, Bev and seaside….what r u doing for fun?
