This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
Hi…I’m still busy trying to pack ..just in thought. I’d better get going not very many days. Barb, we leave on the 7th and cruise on the 12th for a week. We will be home the 21st. We will go to Amarillo Dallas and houston and then Galveston. I hope you all got the card I sent. Barb, I did see the note from you. I’m the absolute worst packer in the world. I have to try everything on. It’s not easy getting the clothes and trying them on when u can barely walk. I’ve started using oxygen full time again. My levels are dropping in the 60’s. And I’m breathless. It’s miserable. Hopefully when we get to sea level next week it will even out as I sure don’t want to take this on cruise. It’s a huge pain with my Little walker .Purse, walker and oxygen. It’s hard. Kayla did my hair last week and I really liked it and it stayed I’m for a few days. She was very nervous with me. She thinks I’m picky. I’m not but I don’t want late or cancellations. I think,I told you all that I’m talked Louis into using a scooter too on trip. He had back shots this week and they seem to be helping him. I can hardly lay on bed with all the crap on it. I put more there tonight. It’s a mess. Mary, I hope your niece is better by now. EXciting that she’s having a baby. How old dips her other one? Who’s e eryomevfor in the Super Bowl? I don’t really care on either team. I do like the qB For kc but not the chiefs.
Well, I have to get back to work…just wanted to check in. Barb, I’m so glad your phone is working again
Dianne, I am sad you have to use the oxygen full time! Am I reading your post right? You will only be driving, not flying? I am glad the shots are helping Louis. Now get packing lol! Raquel is doing much better. I think a lot of her problem is her MIL. She moved in with them in their new home. She had a nice apartment like place on the lower floor. A few months ago she started acting wacky. She would constantly interfere in their home life. Doing things that upset Raquel. They asked her to please stop and she would look them in the eye and say "nope, not happening". She threaten to kill herself! Her son grabbed all her pills and gave them to her and said to go ahead. Of course she didn't. She stayed with her sis across the state in Detroit over Christmas so the kids could have a bit of peace. Her sis called and asked them to come and get her! They didn't. She is originally from the Det. area. Last I heard she was looking for a place to move back. Her hubby was a doll. He died of a heart attack about 5 yrs ago. Myla, their daughter is just 5 yrs old in Jan.
Dianne, Thank you for the Groundhog Day card. It’s very cute. I think you better take your oxygen with you on your trip even though it’s a pain. If you need it, it’s better to have it right there.
Mary, How is Raquel? I’m still praying for her. She sure doesn’t need all that stress from her MIL. I hope she finds another place to move to soon. Is Jim feeling better since he’s not smoking?
JL, how’s your visit with your daughter going. I assume she also brought her dogs so they are entertaining. I’ve got nothing going on here. I do have a hair appointment on the 7th and I am trying to decide if I should cut it. Chad says “no.” My arms are getting worse and it’s hard for me to do my hair, but it will be hard to do if it’s short, too. Decisions…
JL, I decided to have my hair cut. My hair is just too fine & thin. I would let it grow if it was thicker. I am glad it is cut. So much easier to handle. I can't give you my opinion on yours since I have no clue what you look like anymore lol!!
Raquel was doing fine until this afternoon. She was rushed to ER because she started to bleed! We have been so worried! She just called and said she had a fibroid that drained out which made it look like a miscarriage. The baby is fine!
I no sooner enjoyed the good news, when I found out on FB that a friend of ours had an heart attack on his job! He was about 50. I went to his Mom's funeral a couple yrs ago. I used to work with her. Only his sister and Father remain. He had been married before to a druggie. He married a beautiful young gal and had 3 more children. He had one son from his first, who is now 21 and doing great due to his dad who raised him :(
Such is life! I have been to too many funerals!
Dianne. Please keep us posted before, during, and after your trip. I am an old mother hen lol1 Thank you for the cute card. Made me smile :)
Mary You're getting us mixed up again. LOL Barb is the one contemplating getting her hair cut, not me. I already have short hair, although I am due for a trim which is happening on Thursday. One good thing about shorter hair is that it dries quicker.
I'm so glad to hear that Raquel and baby are doing okay. What a scare that was. So far, this pregnancy is very dramatic. I hope things go smoothly from here on out. I hope worrying about her and Jim is not stressing you out too much. It's such a shame that her MIL is a source of stress rather than a help.
Speaking of Jim.....Congrats on him sticking to the no smoking. Maybe this last stretch in the hospital scared him straight, so to speak. It's really hard to quit or more people would do it but it should be getting easier with each passing day. How much older than you is he? I guess I'm assuming he's older.
Barb Did you make a decision about your hair? After you wash it, do you just brush it out and let it dry naturally. I use a blow dryer and I find that's tiring on my arms sometimes, especially with my left side which is the side holding the dryer. It's kind of heavy and that's the side that has the rotator cuff issue. Gee, it sucks to get old! I do have a travel blow dryer which is smaller and lighter but I don't like it as much.
My daughter drove home yesterday with her two remaining dogs. The day before she came down here, one of her dogs passed away. He was a chihuahua mix named Pico and she was especially close to that dog. I think he was 15 years old, maybe 16. Since we were celebrating Christmas, I still had all the decorations and little tree up. Today I'll be putting it all away. The place looks so boring without the lights of the tree or the lights on the garland across the mantle. Friday night we went to the Moonraker Restaurant here in Pacifica which is rather expensive but is by the ocean and on second floor level, with extra tall windows looking out at the waves which are they have lit up. It's a very nice place but I was really disappointed with my dinner. I ordered the lobster tails (2) assuming they were broiled. Wrong! Apparently, they were boiled in extremely salty water. They were soooo salty and the texture was like they were water logged and raw. Ugh! I sent it back. I did like and eat the sides which were fall vegetables and yummy cheesy potatoes. I had a cup of clam chowder as an appetizer and got a shrimp cocktail when I returned the lobsters. Thankfully weren't charged for them. Elizabeth had a plate of Kobe beef and scallops, which she liked fine. I did like my Bloody Mary. LOL For dessert we made S'mores at the table over a little Hibachi, using their house made marshmallows and Ghirardelli chocolate squares. That was kind of fine. This where we had planned to have Christmas Eve dinner before she caught COVID a couple days before her planned Christmas visit.
While Elizabeth was here, we met with my Ameriprise guy and gave her POA over my IRA's and also set up beneficiaries, etc. We also went to my bank and got her name added to my accounts there so business can be conducted if I'm incapacitated. There's more I need to do but At least I'm finally starting to get my ducks in a row. My two kids already own half of my house but I need to talk to a lawyer about how things will go with my half. I have put this stuff off for too long.
Dianne I hope you've made all your packing decisions by now. I also end up with a lot of stuff all over my bed when I pack. Well, I guess it's only all over half of my king size bed, really. I usually have smaller stuff, laid out across a long dresser, too. Anything that comes to mind that I really don't want to forget, goes on there. It does make packing easier when everything is already visual. I also double check a list I've made with important things to not forget, like passport and cruise ticket. Oh, and medications! Once you get there, I know you are going to have a wonderful time. Hopefully, your breathing will be easier once you are at sea level. Definitely bring oxygen, though.
My friend Kathy, had a walker with a seat on it which came in handy for her. Also, the seat lifted up and there was a fabric pouch under it which is where she would stash her purse or anything else that she had to carry with her. Often when we left a restaurant, she would get her leftovers to-go and would put them in that pouch rather than try to carry them. When we'd get to my car, I'd remove them to collapse the walker and put it in my car.
Our playoff game sure didn't go the 49ers way. We've been doing so well with our rookie 3rd backup quarterback and then he got hurt and we're down to the 4th backup. Yikes!
Hi…I am bringing my oxygen. It’s small Inogene (and expensive) but I can plug it into wall or car hookup. I’ve been using in the car and around the house. When I’m not using it’s in the 60’s. As soon as I get on it up it goes to 95. I’m just so breathless. I did have a PA appt for tmrw but canceled it. He will just tell me to use it and I’m very busy tmrw. I’m in my office tonight without it and it’s in the 80’s. I’ll get it soon I don’t use it in restaurants either. It’s a pain with my little walker. JL, I have a nice walker like your friend had but I can’t get it in and out of the car by myself. I use a little tripod walker. I hate using the walker, oxygen , etc. I met a friend for lunch today. When I opened the back door…..no walker. I freaked out. Im too scared to walk that far. Louis’s cane was there so I used that and my friends arm. Louis thought I’d said to put it in his car for trip! Nope.I felt helpless ..scared too. First time that’s happened. Im all packed…finally. It would go faster if I didn’t have to try everything on. I have to have two suitcases too. One for this week and then one for cruise plus bathroom bag. It’s simply overwhelming. I have a list too. Tonight I’ve been in office trying to figure out money, tips, etc. it takes a long time too. We will drive to amarillo Tuesday night, Dallas Wednesday night…our 20 year anniversary and meeting a good friend for dinner. She’s my friend that her husband passed away suddenly in Oct. I’ll be so glad to see her. Thursday we will drive to Houston and stay a few days. My cousin is having a family party for us Friday. We leave for Galveston Sunday…Super Bowl…Sunday. I think half or more of the tennorettes are for the chiefs. I really don’t care although I do like their qB.
Oh, btw, barb and I went to see 80 for Brady yesterday. I totally recommend it. You laugh all through it. Those four women are so funny. Im not a brady fan but I found myself rooting for him to win. Sally field is so cute but they r all great. So….that one and Otto are great movies. Fun ones. Kayla offered to do my hair for free tmrw so it would be nice for the first part of vacation. My tip will probably be more than what the hair would have been! I have nails at 9 and hair at 11 and then rush home to do last minute details. Tammy and I r getting our hair done on cruise too. Louis thought f the weather wasn’t great we could leave a day early. I told him at noon. He said, “cant u skip hair and nails!” What? Is he crazy. I’d never skip, them before vacation. I will keep in touch. I won’t have internet from the 12-19 on the ship. We will be home the 21st
I felt bad for the 49ers. We got another new coach this week. We will see how that goes. Everyone is all excited again like last year when we got Russell Wilson and lost all our draft picks. We lost more with the new coach now too. Mary, I hope things get better. Im glad Jim is doing better and Raquel is ok too. Sorry about your friend. I felt like u do this time last year with funerals..sudden ones. I went to mortuary where my husband joe is buried. His son is buried by him. His ex wife asked me if I’d sell the plot so she could be buried by her son. I really like her and have always gotten along with her. I certainly wasn’t going to sell it as im not being buried there. She had to fly out from Austin , we both had to sign and have it notarized and it cost $595 to do this and obviously she paid. We went to lunch which she treated her daughter and i to lunch. . It was very nice. She hugged me and was very grateful. I’m fine with it. Joe was cremated and she’s not sure what she’s going to do. She said if she wasn’t cremated she would have her back to joe. It was a different afternoon. My life is boring but sometimes….
Well, time for me to continue my work here. Barb, mwhat did u do with your hair? How long is it? Ok talk to u all soon. I, not proofreading so hope it’s understandable
JustLin, I can't believe I keep mixing you two up!! So sorry your Daughter lost Pico. 16 years a a long time for a dog. So sad when they leaves us no matter the age.
Dianne, I hope the two suitcases are for the both oh you! Will you have help loading & unloading them? I am sure you have a smaller case for the short hotel stays. I am always uneasy leaving anything in the car when traveling. You travel a lot so I am sure you have a routine. Raquel is much better. Jim is still smoke free and breathing so much better! He still can't walk long distances. I asked his primary Dr to give him papers for a handicap placard. He got. Now see how long before he goes to the DMV lol!
Barb, not JusLin, how crazy am I lol! I too have trouble holding my hairdryer. My hair is much shorter now, so it doesn't take as long although I am now using my curling iron, so there is that lol!
Hi….we r in Houston for the last three days. It’s darn cold in Dallas and houston too. I’ve been freezing since we left home. We’ve had a great time here. Family party yesterday that was fun. We r staying at a hotel near by. Tammy and James r staying with my cousins we go to ship tmrw. I’m ready for some nice weather. Louis was able to do all the driving here without getting tired. I think, since his pain meds have been reduced it’s made a huge difference. He’s been doing ok on Tylenol and tramadol . No, suitcases are for me a large one and a medium one. Same for Louis. We had to bring so much more with having a week out before cruise. A small suitcase holds all my bathroom items. My concern now is getting two scooters, fitting in the roo, getting our luggage, etc. we check in at 10:30. We’ve mostly done our checking online. I’m just praying it all goes good.
Well, I’m going to sign off as we r out right now. I just wanted to say hi and talk to u in a week.
