Comfort Foods

there are times when i just
need my very favorite comfort
food of all times "french fries"
with brown gravy and ketchup

yep, thats what does it for me!

the most fattening of all foods
just makes me feel wonderful
it warms my heart and my arteries

once a week, usually on saturdays
is when i allow for this tasty treat
and when they arrive at my table
there is nothing anyone can do to
stop me, i dive right in!

comfort foods are needed at certain
times, as for me it gives me that
extra boost, so well needed at
weeks end, and when every last
"french fry" is gone from my dish
i accomplished what i set out to do

the feeling: satisfying
the taste: delish
the after: bloated

comfort foods, they just make
me smile!

:O)

  9. Oh Man my problem is that any thing really greasy and fattening is comfort food!!

A big sloppy bacon cheese burger with greasy salty french fries is sure to send me into an orgasmic moment, or a plate of really cheesey nacho's or a huge breakfast fry up, with pancakes and eggs and greasy bacon.

Wow now I am drooling like Homer Simpson.

Can't forget dessert!!! This really gets my motor humming. Hot Fudge Sundays with spanish peanuts! Sinful Chocolate cake with extra rich chocolate icing. Cheesecake with chocolate, Eclairs and cream puffs. Oh and don't forget Pecan pie, Blackberry pie. Oh I have to quit or I will go on a food binge today! LOL

    I have no self control:(

Damn I fell asleep before 9 and I don't think I even moved in the bed last night....

Comfort foods....depends on what I am comforting. I love me some Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza, but since that is only in Chicago and I am in Honolulu all I can do is dream now...

Off to get ready for work.

Is hoping that Sandie will have one more rock in the yard today.

Amicus: Hoping dad is doing well

Tina: missing you right back. hmmm photobucket has a new meaning now....who knew you we're a closet....corn collector?

  26. Good Morning Owls!

I didn't get home from the hospital until late last night so I'm just now catching up on comments from yesterday.

Hugs and a heartfelt Thank You for the thoughts and prayers to:

    Lynn D...SacBarb...Tinkatia
    Just Lin...Goldie...Zona
    Dianne/Denver...Kahonugrl
    Nowmercy...Sandie...Birdee
    Cpgem...VIG...Tina

My Dad gave us a scare by taking a long time to recover from the anesthesia, but other than that, the surgery went well. He should be feeling much better soon.

Sandie: Sending a prayer that Luc passes the stone so surgery won't be needed. {{Hugs}} for you both.

Entranced: Welcome to the nest! Glad you're here!

BonO: I emailed MySpace last week about the page width/resizing code problem, and I finally received a reply yesterday. All it said was, "We're working on that." I don't know why it's taking so long to fix.

I'll be back to catch up on today's blog and comments after I get home from the hospital.

    Have a good day, Owls!

  33. Happy Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday or Pancake Day - what ever you little owls call today.

Good Morning Lovey (congrats on being first), Jodi, Lynn D, Scirish, goldie, Iteach and K-Girl.

    lesson for today -
etymology - the origin of a word and the historical development of its meaning.

Comfort food - What a pleasure for me. It is something that reminds me of my childhood. To me there is nothing like smoothly mashed potatoes and gravy to make me feeling better or fatter.

Hope everyone had a great night. It is rainy and miserable here. I have a computer meeting tonight so I hope it eases off. Have a great day everyone.

    ReplyDelete

Thank you for taking the time to write me when you got home. I haven't checked yet to see if you got my reply. I will keep my prayers concentrated on your daddy until he is well enough to come home.

Sandie - I hope I go to messages and find Luc has "done the job". Come on Luc you can do it. Do it for mommy and Remy.

  42. Good Morning Owls or Owlettes I like Owlettes (who gave us that name?? its cute) Everything is finally ok here back to normal Thank God. I have a lot to do today, but I will try to come here and post more often on my breaks. Tinkatia, in Michigan its Paczki Day (poonchkee) its just an overstuffed glazed Jelly Donut, but you can fill them with Raspberry, Blueberry, Lemon, Prune, Apple, Strawberry, Custard, I think I covered them all. But it has always been a Polish Tradition in my family, but for the past 20 years EVERYONE eats them in Michigan, well at least the Detroit Metro Area. My husband went out last night to the Polish Bakery and bought 3 Dozen, he took some to work and the kids took some to school for Lunch.

Sandie: I wanted to tell you what a beautiful blog you wrote the other day, It brought me to tears, very heart warming. I also hope Luc will be ok and he passes the rock.

Hi Lovey, Goldie, Jodi, Tina, Cpgem8, Lynn D, BonO, EJB, Entranced, iteach, Amicus oh and any one else I missed I'm sorry But Hello to everyone.

I'm sorry about all the snow your getting in Wisconsin, We didn't get as much as you and I'm tired of it already, you blow it and then 2 days later its gone, like, okay, just a waste of my time. Its about 43 here today, so its almost all melted from Friday. Okay I'm gonna go its 11:00 am here I have to get some laundry started and house straigtened. I will check back later on my breaks.

I missed you guys, I really did.

  43. LYNN D - I emailed you that "recipe". I don't really measure anything - I just throw it together - so I'm guessing the amounts.

Here is the "recipe" for anyone else that is interested:

1 can "white" frosting - I usually use butter cream
    I don't know - about 2-3 T peanut butter
and some milk (maybe 1-2 T)(otherwise it gets a bit stiff)!!!

    Walla.....peanut butter frosting!!!!

    Enjoy!!

  104. Good morning Owls! My email was down yesterday, so I missed seeing what the topic was. Glad I made it in time to discuss comfort food!

All this talk about french fries with brown gravy makes me want to travel north to Canada and have some poutine! YUMMY!! In case you don't know, Poutine was described to me as twice fried french fries with brown gravy and cheese curds. OMG, it is heaven in a bowl!! I just LOVE Canada even more because of Poutine!!

Another favorite of mine is meatloaf with mashed potatoes. It has to be together though, so I can smash it all up. I am not one of those people who cannot let their foods touch on the same plate. PULEEZE! I like to introduce ALL of my foods to one another.

Barb~ Today is much better. The "ass" apologized and promises to behave. We'll see how long THAT lasts!! Thanks for being there for me. It was a really rough Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Looks like everyone got hungry and left!

    ReplyDelete
  106. KGIRL - Your owl finally found its way to Wisconsin!! Too freakin' funny :D :D

IBB - I left a little something on your page!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. **waving frantically**

    HI GLYNIS!!!!

Is that the tootsie pop owl? "A one, a two, a three....crunch!" LOL!

Glad to hear your "ass" is behaving!

    ReplyDelete
  108. BARB/WA - Waving to you!!! Having a fun day off - but now I should get some laundry done, and get groceries before our big snowstorm hits. Have a great afternoon!! I'll be back later. ;)

    ReplyDelete

    I get pissy thoughts sometimes!!!

I am not a bead whore ...because I will share!!!

  111. I think my comfort food is Whitman's chocolates. I like the coconut and nut ones the best.

    ReplyDelete
  112. It would kill me barb, I'm just saying....

glynnis, I have one kid who won't let the food touch on his plate. My dad always told him it all ends up in the same place anyway, whats the big deal? I for one like to mix and mash.

Jodi- pick me up a couple things at the store would you? By the time I get out of work and can go I would rather do without then face those crazy mofo's who think they won't get shoveled out until sunday. For godsake people - this is WI, we have snow ALL THE TIME. By 5:00 you are going to need a referee and a lot of patience.

ok, congrats to Lynn and Mo. You guys figure out who won, I missed the whole dang march!

    ReplyDelete
  113. ibebold- you will be "pooping" at work? Sounds messy...

    ReplyDelete
  114. IBB- "pooping in and out"??? personally, I'd rather poop in

    ReplyDelete
  115. Wow - There is nothing like food to bring out the comments. Every thing sounds so good. As I said before, give me mashed potatoes and gravy any day and I will be happy. When I was a child my mother would fry up hamburger loosely (like you do for tacos) and serve it with the mashed potatoes and gravy. I would mix it all up until it looked like dog food but oh it tasted so good. If I were sick that was what I wanted to eat. It sounds gross but I still like it. I guess it was a little like 'Shepherd's Pie'.

Glynis - Your favourite food when you "smash it all up" would look like mine.

Bon Oregon - Glad your myspace problems are fixed. Mine are as well (touch wood). I think you have coined a new word for PMS.

  116. Hi Grandma Moses!
    Tinkkatia
have fun at your MAC meeting tonight.
    Amicus
I am glad that your Dad is Ok. My Dad is gearing up for a surgery too..his third one so I know how stressful these things can be.
    Ibebold
I had to ask someone who you were. At first I thought yuo were someone's husband but then learned you were mek's sister. :0)
    Renee Eve
I hope everyone stays well at your house now. Whew!
    Sandie
I hope your dog has passed the stone. I was watching Animal Planet and one dog swallowed the cap off of a cleanser. Another dog swallowed a spongey cat ball. Both of those dogs ended up fine.
Lovey, Goldie, LynnD, EBJ, Wabbear, Carol, and everyone a big warm hello. There are so many names here today. I know I missed some.Sorry! I am kind of rushing. I have a luncheon with my Mom, sister, and my Mom's friend to rush off to.

    ReplyDelete
  117. tinkatia...
hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes used to be one of my fav lunches at school!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Ooops. Tinkatia I was typing too fast and gave you 2 k's!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Dreamatexas - I do the same thing. I type fast and sometimes I will have 3 l's instead of one. I think it's partly the keyboard's fault. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Barbara - It's nice to know I am not the only one who likes potatoes mixed in with gravy.

When I was a child there was only one day a year that we had pancakes and we had them for dinner on Pancake Day. My childhood is beginning to sound like we lived on the other side of the tracks. Well I guess we were far from rich that's for sure. There were a lot of food rations during the war.
Anyway I still carry on that tradition. I will make pancakes tonight and eat them all by myself. Poor little me. Another pity party.
I will have a little chocolate tonight because Lent begins tomorrow and I always give up candy for Lent. Is there any other owl that gives up something for Lent?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Dreamatexas - I just noticed your new picture. I love it. Which one is supposed to be the owl? Cinnamon or the teddy bear?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Tink-
I love your version of "shepherds pie" although the pancakes sound yummy too! Good grief I'm hungry! The weight watchers pizza just isn't doing it....

    ReplyDelete
  122. scirish - I know. With all this talk of food my lunch of "Slim Fast" doesn't do it either. I try to weigh in early in the month. Do you? Oh I guess you are still going weekly. As soon as you reach your goal, and you will, then you will weigh in monthly. It will be 10 years on maintenance for me soon. I think it was April. Wow, time goes fast.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Lynn D, Ty for answering. I thought you might have been kidding. Cute little pygmy goats!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Tink, I gave up giving up things for Lent one year and have just sort of kept up the tradition.....

There is a place in Brown Deer, WI that is called Peeps. They make the best pecan pancakes and waffles you have ever had. We used to get there about once a year and I think my husband would rather have those then sex (and that is saying a lot!).

Tink adn dreama, your keyboards and mine must be related. Mine screws up all the time. Damn thing just doesnt' follow directions :)

    ReplyDelete
  125. Tink:

When you all come here for the night owl luau, we will have to go to a place called Boots & Kimos and have their famous Macadamia nut pancakes. It's served with a warm vanilla sauce as well that sorta tastes like creme brulee.

    And their omelettes are outstanding!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I just ahd Lunch...AND READING ABOUT ALL THIS FOOD I AM HUNGRY AGAIN!!!

    I did have french fries!!!
    No gravy though!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Tink-Yup, I am supposed to weigh weekly..although I am doing the online version so I don't have to go anywhere. It's very slow going so I'm glad I don't have to weigh in in front of someone. Only 5 lbs the first month, but at least thats something....

    ReplyDelete
  128. Hi K'girl.......yummo. Your post reminded me of Hale Koa's macadamia nut waffles with warm coconut syrup, whipped butter and a side of Portuguese sausage. Heaven on a plate!

My comfort luch today: White jasmine rice with butter, Splenda and cinnamon....followed by a nap and more politics.

    b*b

    ReplyDelete
  129. Everywhere I look is food!!!

My god I keep thinking got to get some greasy food! LOL

Kgirl: Those pancakes may have to go on my list! They sound sinful!!!

Hi Bono: Glad to see you made it! Computer Midol Do the trick? LOL

Hi Glynis and BarbWA and Dreama!

I like my foods seperate they can touch but not mix! Sorry! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  130. Okay, not a member of organized religion but I do take the Lent practice and it is just not fair to do this subject the day before lent..sheesh.

noodles, butter, salt, red pepper flakes- a drug

cream of rice with brown syrup and soy milk - a true comfort

Jodi, did you get my list and pick my stuff at the store? It is starting to snow here.

    ReplyDelete
  135. LUC POOPED THE ROCK!!! At 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Luc let go a stream of mineral-oiled poop along with a large rock! I did a poop dance in the yard!!

I'm so sorry to do that to you all today when we're discussing comfort food (mine is chocolate--oooh, even that isn't quite right--yuck) but I'm just so happy we have avoided the surgery!!

Thank you ALL so much, including K-girl, amicus (so glad your dad is doing well), goldie, tinka, renee (so happy you're feeling better and thanks for the blog compliment), grandma moses, east bay j, ibebold, birdee, just_lin, bon'oregon and dreamatexas for your shout outs for Luc today. A very special thank you to ibebold for showing the love by pooping at work. :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Sandie:

Woohoo the pooper oil did the trick. When my pup did that, they advised me to still keep an eye and not too much food the first day. They suggested rice with scrambled egg. Amicus probably has some good advice too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. It is a Happy Pooping Day here on the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Sandie - I have never been so happy to talk about poop. Do you think my pep talk to him helped? I hope so. Good for you Luc. Your mommy can take that money she saved and go to Hawaii with us next year. Yeah!!!

Scirish - Wonderful. You are doing great. I never lost that much in one week. Fantastic.

K-Girl - I can't wait to try those special Macadamia pancakes with lots of vanilla sauce. How many sleeps til we go to Hawaii?

goldie - Not too many people give up things for lent. I still like the tradition.

It's storming here. I think my house is going to blow away. I am off to curl up with my little ones and have a warm nap. If you don't hear from me, my house will have landed in Kansas.

Oy... sounds like a snow day for me tomorrow! Not dragging my ass out in that mess.

Tink, as long as you are not one of those people who get cranky about what they give up. My brother-in-law always gives up chocolate (his favorite thing) and he PMS's the whole time!

    ReplyDelete
