What's On YOUR Summer TV Schedule?

by Bon'Oregon

Have I ever mentioned how much I love CBS Sunday Morning? (lol) This Sunday's offerings:

*History of the G.I. Bill (if only it still worked for today's Vets the way it was designed during WWII!)

*Bio and video clips of Judy Garland (died 39 yrs ago today!)

*Mo Rocca with clips from PBS's 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me' (GREAT weekly news quiz/game show on radio!)

*The Best Music for Summer 2008 (I definitely need to check out Lizz Wright!)

*'Best in Show' about all the dogs performing on Broadway from 'Annie' to 'Legally Blonde'.
(Did you know they ALL came from New York's Animal Shelter?)

*The Longest Day (about Summer Solstice)

*Blowin'in the Wind (about Texas wind turbines 'fueling' controversy and the economy)

*'The Money Lady' ~~ Suzy Orman profile (Did you know she was poor, from the southside of Chicago before moving on up to Berkeley and her high $8-figure multi-faceted career in SF with life partner, Kathy Travis?)

*Editorial about Scott McClellan's tell-all book and P.R. people in Journalism

*'Step by Step' about Bertie Bowman, 70-something black man, one of fourteen kids, who in 1944 hopped a train to Washington, DC and swept the steps of the Capitol for $2/week, and has now written a book about all his years since, on the 'inside'.

*Closing nature scene, this week of the seals and gulls off the San Francisco Coast.....I learn so much every Sunday while being so well entertained. The only thing better would be if they'd expand it to at least three hours. THE BEST (imho) 90 minutes on TV!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SO...we all miss our favorite shows during the Summer. (Un)Reality programming is SO pitiful. The Stanley Cup has been won, Tiger is sadly out for the season...Have YOU discovered any must-see TV we might have missed? If so, PLEASE SHARE!
    Ty for todays blog Bon.
    I don't watch alot of TV in the summer.I usually use that time to catch up on reading. I have fallen behind on my reading so I have tons of books to choose from this summer.
    :o)
  3. Morning Glories!
    Yay lovey posted! Sending you many (((Hugs))) and kisses! I hope you come back to play soon!
    Bon I used to watch CBS Sunday Morning all the time. But I have not watched in about a year. I honestly don't know why. Maybe because I spend my mornings in the nest. LOL
    I will have to check it out again.
    I have nothing new to report as you all know we have cable after 10years so all of the shows are pretty much new to me and I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out what to watch.
  4. Good morning everyone!
    Congrats on 1st LynnD!
    Bonnie the only thing I watch on Sunday morning is 2 1/2 hrs of Coronation Street. However, CBS Sunday Morning does sound like the type of show I would watch.
    The only thing I am watching on TV now is the Euro Soccor Championship, Wimbledon tennis (I find all the grunting and groaning by the players very distracting though) and some reality shows. Some channels are showing more movies so I can catch some that I have missed. Other than that I spend my time on the computer.
  6. Good morning!
    Lynn is first again, you super early bird!! Congrats!
    Hi Lovey! Good to see you again!
    Thanx for the good food Shirley :) Glad to see MEK's new blender is getting used so much already!
    On Sunday mornings I watch Good Morning America (as I do every other day of the week).
    We love reality shows in this house, and I watch Lifetime and Animal Planet too.
    Other faves are Flip That House and Little People Big World.
    It is still smoky outside, you wouldn't know it's summer since there is no blue sky.
    Have a nice day!
  7. Good Morning All Owls, coming, going and staying. Congrats Lynn on 1st.
    I am rushing around helping my visitor get fed, packed and off to the ferry. Her plane for Japan doesn't leave until tomorrow but it leaves from Vancouver so she will spend the night there. I will quickly read the blog and be back later.
  9. We hardly watch any tv on the weekend. Maybe a movie here or there. I do like Antiques Roadshow Sunday at 7pm. A woman had the most beautiful diamond ring last Sunday. The guy told her it had been made in Belgium I think. Anyway it was made in 1700 something! Can you imagine?! It had been given to her grandmother who's finace was from there. He died I think in a war, so the grandmother went to visit his family. They gave her the ring and told her if she had married their son she would have become a countess. So this ring had been in the family for close to 200 years!
    I will be here on and off today, but then after 6pm I wont be back until Monday. I'm headed to the beach. Everyone is already there. I decided to work yesterday and today instead of taking my last 2 vaca days. Usually we always take these trips Wed or Thurs thru Sunday, but Jody coujld not find a place at the beach to book for the weekend. But now that gas prices are so horrible, most of the campgrounds have become open. Oh well. Today is really the only full day that I am missing. Yesterday was just getting every one there and set up.
    I will be back later today though. Work should be pretty slow and boring.
    **now watch....all hell will break loose at work today**
  10. East Bay: The sky looks a little murky down here, too. :(
    Shirley: That's it for me, too... Wimbledon! Love it! Some interesting story lines this year:
    Men: Which of the big three will win? Can "The Joker" or "The Bull" dethrone the Fed Express? And what about Frank Dankevic, the first Canadian to get past the first round since, well, I don't know when!
    Women: Can Ana Ivanovic pull off the rare French-Wimbledon double? Will the Williams sisters bounce back from their French debacle? And what about Maria Sharapova?
    And how will my FAVORITE Eastern European tennis phenom, Ivana Fuckyaova, fare?
    Stay tuned... Wimbledon is on every day all day now, and in HD for the first time!
  12. I haven't been watching any summer T.V. I have been engrossed in T.V. D.V.D.'s. When Zona sends me "Grey's Anatomy" I should have enough to watch the rest of the summer.
    I have no idea who the "Beauty of the Day" is so I will wait until I get back on the computer this afternoon.
    Have a great Tuesday everyone.
    Vacation was wonderful, relaxing, beautiful weather, tons of fun and then I woke up this morning and reality hit me smack in the face! Oh well.
    I missed you all. I read the blogs when I got home last night but no time for comments. As ususal the blogs were fantastic.
    Hope everyone is well- lots to do in the office today, but will try to get back on later.
  16. BarbWa: Love Antiques Roadshow! I just discovered the Canadian Roadshow too! Oh and can I go to the beach with you please, please??? Just shove me in the trunk I will be happy! Have fun!
    Shirley: I am trying to get back into Coronation Street used to watch it ten years ago. There are so many new people that I am trying to decifer what has happened in all that time. I was tickled pink to find it on CBUT. Do you know if they play East Enders to?
    Tinka: Wishing your girl a very safe trip home.
    I am guessing Amicus. I have gotten most of these wrong! LOL
    Iteach: Imagine the Disney channel on Sundays in your home. Is Mr. Iteach a Hannah Montana Fan? LOL Or is it the Suite Life of Zack and Cody? ROFLMAO shhhhh sometimes I watch the Disney Channel for some wholesome relief.
    Whabby: I just can't get into sports on TV. Love to watch live but it loses something on the screen to me.
  17. bon'o, ty for the blog!
    Congrats on 1st lynnd!
    Good morning lovey, shirley, ebj, tinka, barb, whabbear and iteach.
    I don't have much to say about tv shows.
    EBJ, sorry I read your blog about dreams too late. Love talking about dreams. I took a dream class at the community college and it was taught by a phd in sleep. Our dreams help us sort out problems in our lives.
    A repetitive dream might mean you have the same problem over and over, but probably it is a different problem. Someone talked about going back into a dream.
    I learned in that class to stay in my dream no matter how dreadful it got. We can all do this. I had a dream from childhood many times where waves were so high and wiping out the beach. I made myself sleep thru it and when the wave came on the beach I realized I was behind glass. I never had that dream again. At least 15 yrs. ago.
    Your dream is a continuation of your day. Your brain keeps thinking even though you body is asleep.
    Have a great day owls!!
  24. Good Morning Nestmates!
    LynnD's first, Lovey's posting, Goldie's back, Mary/MI's on her way home, Tinka survived her visitor, Iteach is asserting her authority,EBJ's enjoying Oregon's small farm family (pun intended, but respectfully), Bear has Ivana, BarbWa's about to get her beach on, GM is here, VIG's almost on Summer Vacay and Shirley brought gingerbread pancakes (I'll have mine with apple butter--yummo). The day is off to a good start!
    I committed to my 'Who's This Owl' first guess on gmail @ 7:54 a.m., but I try to wait until later each day to embarrass myself with my oh-so-wrongness! Plus, I'm already second-guessing my choice.
    On the TV TOTD: I see there are some interesting new programs coming on Food Network in July, and my Favorite traveler (Samantha Brown) has a new show coming on The Travel Channel. I'm on the lookout for some ROFL comedy. Any hints?
    I think the reason I make CBS Sunday Morning 'appointment TV' every Sunday is it's like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates or Christmas morning packages. You never know what you'll get, but it NEVER disappoints.
    Hope the smoke clears for you in California...miss you, Joey...more hugs to J/L. Good day wishes, everyone!
  25. I think the mystery night owl is Kirk Cameron in drag!
  31. Good afternoon, owls! Welcome back, Lovey and Goldie!
    I don't watch tv as much in the summer, although I do watch the Bachelorette and I'm going to watch that crazy Japanese obstacle course show tonight to see if it's as funny as the real one! I do a lot more reading the summer.
    I am positive that today's owl is K-Girl!! I think it looks just like her! I can't believe I'm the only one who sees that--LOL!! (I guess that means I'm wrong again.)
    Have a good day!
  32. I just got caught up on my Today Show clips since I missed so much this a.m....
    anyway - tomorrow is the BIG Today Show throws a wedding..
    For the record - I only missed TWO of the voting so far - First, the couple - LOL - at least the couple I was voting for came in second - but this couple has grown on me - and I missed the bridesmaid dress - I liked the green one - not the pink that won..
    ANd - for the honeymoon - I voted for Italy - we'll find out tomorrow if I am correct on that.
    can you tell how BORED I am... or I guess - better than that - what I find to do so that I can procrastinate on other things!! LOL
  34. Happy Tuesday Owls.
    LynnD: Congrats on being the early bird again.
    Bon'O: We used to watch Good Morning years ago when Charles Kurault (sp?) hosted, but I haven't watched it in years. I think it is on while I am at church, but I think I'll start TiVoing it. I had forgotten about how much we enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder.
    Lovey is back in the nest! Great to see you.
    Shirley: Thanks for breaky. I love multi-grain toast and I'll have some fruit, too. I thought I heard someone outside early this morning. I hope the smoky flowers don't stink up the nest.
    EBJ: I watch Flip That House too. And I watch a lot of HGTV.
    Tinks: I hope your visitor has a safe trip home.
    Barbwa: I wanna go to the beach too, but it's not gonna happen this year. Have fun.
    Bear: Ivana? Hmmmmmm, you think she can stay on top? (was that a test to see who is paying attention?)
    Iteach: I so remember the days when children's programming was our TV fare.
    Goldie: So glad you didn't get washed away on your vaca.
    VIG: Summer vaca is finally here for you so you can play with us more.
    MEK: I hope you are feeling better today. Maybe a smoothie will help.
    Sandie: I watch Army wives too. Love that show.
    Waving a wing at Birdee, IBB, Bebbie and all who land after me.
  39. Good Afternoon Owls!
    BonO: Was the Best in Show segment to promote Bill Berloni's new book, Broadway Tails? I bought it, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. What little I already know about his story and the stories of the rescue dogs he has trained is amazing though! I'm in awe of him as a trainer and a compassionate human being!
    I have no idea who our mystery Owl is today, but that should come as no big surprise since I've rarely gotten any of them right. ;)
    Lynn: My senior pics are on MySpace.
    Waving HI to everyone!
    Have a terrific Tuesday! :)
  40. Hey BON!!! Great blog.....I don't normally get to watch tv on Sunday mornings......until recently, I worked every weekend. I'll have take a look at CBS Sunday Morning.....sounds just like something I'd like.
Top Chef just crowned their newest one.....Stephanie won....the first woman to win Top Chef!!! They just had their reunion show on last week and the favorite saying from this season (which you can order on a t-shirt) is "I have a culinary boner"!!! I don't know....just made me laugh!!! Project Runway will be starting next month.....I luv Tim "Make it work" Gunn!!!
  42. Good Morning Owls! I just returned from a wonderful little resort town on the Columbia River called Crescent Bar. (There are photos on my MS page.) I came home relaxed, well rested... and sunburned. And I have that skin that isn't supposed to burn easily, so it was BAD! Oh yes, to top it off, we got eaten alive by mosquitos...but it was worth it!!
    I try to keep the TV off during the summer. Trying to set an example for the kids. However, I love to play the digital music thru the TV. In the evening I watch my talk shows that I recorded during the day while I was working. I love DVR and wonder how I ever lived without it.
    ReplyDelete
  43. OK, I just remembered two things:
    The image of Barb and beaver on the beach just has me cracking up!
    ...and there IS a show I am planning to watch. I think it is called Shear Genius, but it is one of those reality shows where they compete to see who is the best hair stylist. Pure fluff, but fun.
    And you would be disappointed here Carol.... ALL of the weekend versions of the network morning shows are on at about 5AM and not shown during "morning prime time" because we watch local news. I am a big fan of the Today Show, but you would think that everyone lives in NYC the way they go on.
    Amicus I know your pic is on MS but I figure I have a losing track record so I would just throw your name out there again! LOL
    I hope the smoke is going away for all of you in Cali! I have been watching reports off and on and it is going to be a scary fire season. Also worried about the crops down there. With the water shortage.
    I have to go get some laundry done and some dishes.
    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey MEK! It's not MY beaver I'm talking about! Just random wild ones!
    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks guys, for all the suggestions about Summer TV. Next, let's tackle our Summer Reading Lists!
    Amicus~Why am I not surprised that you would have the book, Broadway Tails. Dogs AND Broadway in ONE book!
    Barb in WA~lol @ "Stinky Flyer Guy". We had a service that came every Saturday night to clean and wax our floors. The guy smelled like a full ash tray and used a rotary power sweeper/buffer that picked up all the dust-bunnies and blew them onto our desktops. Gawd, how I miss working (NOT!).
    Glynis~Loved your pics from Crescent Bar. I didn't mention in my photo comment that we 'borrowed' a tiny sapling from there on a camping trip years ago. It's now a 20-footer in the center of my front yard!
    Heading back out to enjoy the perfect day...bbl
    ReplyDelete
  55. BonO,
    LOL! So true! :) I wasn't sure if that was a "yes" to my question though so I just went to the CBS Sunday Morning website to find out if the segment was about his book, and I'm so happy I did.
    Their website has an article about Berloni and his dogs, plus 3 videos. I got all teary-eyed at the end of the 3rd video when Bill said the dogs won't have to worry about being hurt or abused again, and the Beagle jumped up on the interviewer as if to say, "See how happy I am!" :)
    The second video has dogs, Broadway, AND Michael Ball. I feel like I've died and gone to heaven! ;)
    Thanks for mentioning it on your blog today!
    BarbWA: Have a wonderful time at the beach!
    ReplyDelete
  56. thanks guys! i will hahve a great time! today the guys went crabbing, but we heard the crabbing was bad right now. so we will see if there is fresh crab for me to eat over the campfire when i get there tonight! and then tomorrow we get up really early and drive down the coast to i think florence. we are taking a dune buggy ride! it's one of those huge dune buggies that hold a lot of people. that is gonna be a blast! and then thursday the boys, minus robert, are going ocean fishing. the last time robert went he puked his guts out, so he sworn to never go again. we it will the girls, and robert, all day shopping in depot bay, or wherever we end up!
    BarbWA~The dune buggy rides ARE a blast. (Watch out for sandboarders!) and they're right next to our favorite family camping spot @ Honeyman State Park. There's a great lake on the eastside of the highway, too, if it's hot and you want to swim. Watch out for sandboarders! Have you shopped Old Town Florence? There's always Lincoln City Outlet Mall, too.
    ReplyDelete
  62. LynnD You're always so happy to be first. It makes me smile. Congrats!
    Bon Great blog today! I don't know what I watch in the summer. Not much, really. I enjoy The View in the morning and Ellen in the afternoon. At night I probably migrate more towards HBO and Showtime. Tonight the new Wipeout show starts. I went to school with the guys in the Surfaris who played the song "Wipeout". I sure hope they get royalties because I hear that tune used alot.
    I will be absolutely shocked if the darling grad today is not ITEACH!!!!
    Whabbear Is Ivana your alter ego on the court? LMAO!
    Barbwa The beavers have crabs? LMAO!
    Lovey and Goldie Glad you are back! Doing Happy Dance!!!!
    ReplyDelete
  96. Tina: Good to see you back in the nest. So sorry the last few days have been so difficult for your son and you. It is so sad.
    Zona: What a surprise I got in the mail today. Where ever did you get that picture? I'm glad to see that you are using your crafting skills. Thank you so much.
    CA is still burning and the air here is still yucky. It does make for beautiful sunsets though.
    EBJ: I hope you were able to take advantage of the lower gas price. If that happened here, it would be my luck that I just filled up somewhere else.
    Glynis: I would love to see your pics too, but I can't get through the steel gates to request you as a friend. :(
    ReplyDelete
  97. Hey HO's!!! Just got back from Grandma's party......she was so darn cute!!! When the great grandkids sang as asked "how old are you?"......she said 39!!! Crap....that can't be right....that would make her 3 years younger than me!!!
  99. ZONA - Thanks again for the beautiful card!!! Good thing you didn't get the pic of the sign that says....the village idiot lives here and her name is JODI!!! :p
  100. Just a quick note to let you know I am home...pooped, but home. The flight was smooth & I was seated next to a cute Italian gentleman who was going to Detroit. Mamma mia!!
    I missed all of you and will pop back in after I am well rested.
    MUAH to all of you XOXOXO, Mary
    ReplyDelete
  101. TINA: I am glad to see you took your dad's picture off while you are being naughty. I remember once when I had to tell you to quit talking naughty when you had the Pope's picture as your avatar!! It just didn't seem right...
    Good blog, Bono. I end up using my DVR and not watching some of the shows during the winter and then it gives me some summer TV. I also like America's Got Talent, Nashville Star and of course, The Bachlorette and I pick Jason! I do like it with the 25 guys better than the women as they sure get along much better and not so dang whiny!!
    Glad you had a good vacation GOLDIE. How were those perfect grandchildren?
    Hi LOVEY: We missed you a lot. Hope to see you posting more each day!
    SHIRLEY: Thanks so much for those special pancakes. I hope you don't mind but I stuck some in my pockets and now I am having them for dinner too! They are yummy. Of course, I didn't let the fruit, bacon, etc., go to waste this morning either. I guess you can see why those Weight Watcher points just never work out for me! :)
    ZONA: Why do you think it is Hump Day? It is very easy to confuse me and you just did.
    ReplyDelete
  102. Hi all!
    I hope everyone had a great day.
    Bono - I usually watch a lot more television than I have this summer. I don't like the Bachelorette (although I thought I would). I do like to watch Ghost Hunters on Wednesday night.. that is super good!
    Welcome back Mary/MI!!! I bet you have so many pics and stories! I can't wait to hear them. I would love to go overseas someday. :)
    ReplyDelete
  103. Today was not a fun day. I finally had my appt with the lung doctor and was right on time. They wouldn't take me because I was supposed to be there 20min early to check in. I didn't have that written down but explained that I have pneumonia and I need to get off oxygen and that receptionist wouldn't budge. I even tried to breathe like I needed a doctor. I had to reschedule. It's not like this is my first time there and I was very mad. As I filled out some paperwork, a drug distributor came in and asked what doctors were there and mentioned my dr's name. The receptionist said, "oh, she's not in yet today." I did speak up and say, "you won't let me have my appt and she's not even here?" The receptionist told me she was at the hospital and since I wasn't there 20 min before my appt she called her and told her not to rush in!!! It went from bad to worse...then I had to get my car from valet parking and I pulled out in the circle drive behind two other cars at the stop sign. We sat there forever until I noticed a car in the other lane pass by me...guess what----the cars I waa behind had no driver as they were cars parked by the valet! I didn't feel too dumb..yea, right!! Meanwhile, I am carring my oxygen everywhere and forgot to turn it on. Did someone say they had a gallon of wine or vodka or anything around?
    ReplyDelete
  104. One more thing....welcome home, Mary/MI. It seems like you just left..does it to you? I can't wait to see pictures and hope you had a great time!
    ReplyDelete
  105. dianne/denver: Big Hug, I hate days like that. I sure hope tomorrow will be double nice.
    ReplyDelete
  106. HOT DAMN!!
    I have been foad all day and night! I write a long ass post and poof-gone!
    Anywho- Thanks for the welcome homes. The vaca was wonderful and I got to see the grandbabies a lot of different times and they are so cute and we had so much fun with them. Sometime before they graduate I will get pics posted ;)
    Ok- my day of "back to reality" has kicked my butt, so off to bed I go.
    ReplyDelete
  107. Oh man! Wrong again. I was so sure that picture was K-girl! Anyway, iteach, your picture is adorable.
    Bon'O, Zona, LynnD and anyone else who is interested, I'll get the book list together and post it for ya'll.
    Mary/mi, welcome home!
    Tina, I'm sorry for all your family has had to go through--I'm sure it's been especially hard for your son.
    Dianne/Denver, they weren't nice to you!! I hope they are extra nice the next time you go~
    ReplyDelete
  108. Dianne that is horrible treatment, I am appalled. I would go to patient assistance if I were you and make a BIG complaint.
    That is NOT right.
    ReplyDelete
  109. Just Lin: Uh oh! That could very well be! I'm kind of a sourpuss on the tennis court!
    Mary/MI: Um, did you, um, flirt a little? If someone who I thought was really attractive was right beside me on a long flight, I don't think I could resist!
    Dianne: That is one of the worst medical stories I've ever heard! Unbelievable! Pouring you a nice Bloody Mary...
    ReplyDelete
  110. tina in UT, I didn't hear what happened but my condolences go out to you and all involved. I tried to go back and scroll through and see but couldn't find it. I do hope that there is a lot of love and support for everyone to get them through this hard time.
    ReplyDelete
  111. BEAR: Thanks for the drink (gulp) could I please have another one and this time could you a just a smidge more vodka?
    EBJ: This was a doctors office..maybe I should write a letter or something to a manager. They had better not make me wait one mintue on my appt so I will have to tell them they are throwing my schedule off! This is a huge place too..not just Joe's Lung Shop...it is National Jewish Medical and Research Center and they are huge! At least they had a cancellation and got me in Thursday...you can bet I will be very very early!!
    ReplyDelete
  112. Lynn d:
    Dianne:
    I would def complain, you were treated poorly, I have never heard of getting to a doctor 20min before your appt to check in, If that was the case then they should advise you in advance.. Shame on them!
    Sorry you had to go thru that!!
    And
    Sitting behind parked cars, I have done that myself :O)
    Barb in WA just called me as she was driving up the coast - I'm not sure if she wanted to rub it in that it was cool there - or if she really just wanted to say HI!! just kidding - she wanted me to enjoy the coast with her!! I told her it was still 100 degrees here - she was SO happy that she wasn't here.......
    Dianne - treated badly - in Denver - I have NEVER heard of that before - it's not like doctors ever see you at your exact appt time!!!!!!! goodness!!!!! AND, the doctor wasn't even there - that receptionist needs to sit on the naughty mat!!!!!!
  128. Whabbear I took some old photos to Kinko's and they showed me how to use the scanner and copy the pics to a disc. Once you have that, you can download them to your computer and send them via email or put them on your MS.
    ReplyDelete
  129. The news is over.
    Will watch the wedding on the Today Show in the a.m.!! (there really isn't anything on tv!!)
    Good night all....
    I hope everyone has an excellent WEdnesday!!
    :-)
    ReplyDelete
  130. Whabby: My old scanner wouldn't work with my new computer so I took my senior pics to Walgreens to have them put on a disc. It cost me $2.99 plus tax for 12 pics.
    Carol: I just finished reading about Cindy Lou, one of the dogs who played Sandy in Annie. She was caught by an Animal Control officer when she was around 1 year old, but they think she was abandoned as a pup, because her puppy collar embedded in her neck as she grew. It had to be surgically removed.
    She was scheduled to be euthanized, because she was afraid of humans and had bitten someone. Berloni adopted her, nursed her back to health, taught her to trust people again, and she played Sandy over 500 times. Amazing!!!
    Here's a quote from him that I love ...
    After a show when I leave the stage door without the dogs and there is a crowd gathered, sometimes I hear someone say the following, and it makes it all worthwhile. "How did they make that dog do that?" I smile because I am the only "they" and I do it with love.
    That last sentence makes my heart smile. :)
    Goldie and Mary: Welcome home! Glad you enjoyed your vacations!
    ReplyDelete
  131. Amicus
