I recently got a new haircut and have alternately loved and hated it. It seems the weather has a direct correlation on which it is on any given day. I had wanted a medium to short all one length bob that would look casually messy even right after swimming, something I didn't have to fuss with. It didn't work as, according to the hairdresser, my hair wasn't the right "type". So I got long layers. The layers seem to have activated a mini hair rebellion. Sometimes it swoops back elegantly, others it flips, curls and squiggles and out come the hair instruments of torture.
I have always been conscious of how my hair looks; a bad hair day will ruin a good mood. I have cried over bad cuts and cried harder over bad perms. I'm not sure why this is so important to me. I think that it may be because, although I have little control of other aspects of my looks, I feel that I should be able to control my hair?
My hair obsession is not confined to just my own either. I notice other women's hair, both the good and the…well…not so good. I find my self thinking, "Oh honey, you would look so much better if you _____ your hair". Maybe I'm just a hairdresser wannabe, but I believe it goes deeper than that. Could it be because of the whole "crowning glory" myth?

ReplyDeleteScirish very good blog!
ReplyDeleteI have always dreamed of my hair being a certain way.
However, everytime I go to the beauty shop it never turns out that way.
So after time I have given up on having my favorite hairstyle. My hair is not important to me.
Then I have my mom and sister who never ever like how I do my hair.
They always want it a different way then I have it.
Yesterday, I gave in and let them cut my hair the way they wanted it.
It made them happy and it doesn't look too bad.
Good Morning Iteach.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first today.
How are you doing today? I am going to read the blog now. What are you up to today?
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteIteach got first! Way to go!
Scrish yeah the hair thing. I have it too. If it is doing what I want I feel better but a bad hair day drives me crazy.
I change my style quite often tho lately I have been going for an ear length bob. This last cut for some reason just does not look right to me and I have to fool with it all the time.
I really want a cut that will look good whether I am styling it with the instruments of torture like you said or just combed out of the shower. Since I am now all gray under the hair color it just seems to have a mind of it's own.
I think you are right it is a control issue!
From Area 51: Excuse me but I think I am pointing out the obvious here. Some of our owls need to get laid!
Tina: What are you going to do with Crotchwhores?? LMAO
Good morning Iteach and Miss Tinka!
ReplyDeleteIteach - I guess you have gone to look after your babies. I remember what a busy time it was when my kids were little. Even now when I have my grandkids over, there is so much to do all at once. Get the fireplace going because the kids love to be cozy when they are eating their breakfast in front of the T.V., feed my 'fur babies', take them outside, feed the children. Oh what to do first is always a question. I found it easier in the summer do you?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st iteach.
My hair is the ban of my existance. It is thin, fine, stick straight and not a lot of it. The only thing going for it is that it is naturally blonde and it only takes a few minutes to dry!
My whole life I have wished for thick hair. Everytime I hear someone complain they have to have their hair thinned (my sis in law for one) I want to smack them upside the head.
My sister has a mane of thick blonde hair which I have always envied. Alas, I have to use BABY barrettes to keep mine back.
Good Morning Lynn - I haven't read your comment yet but I will talk about my hair first. I had my first hair cut when I was 12. I had blond ringlets up until the day my dad decided he would cut my hair. (Actually it was blond until I was about 7 and then it slowly darkened). After he finished, both my mom and I cried. I don't know why but we were both sad and mad at him. I grew it out for the next few years. The ringlets were gone but it was still curly. At 16 I got a 'duck tail' which was fashionable then but not in my house. This time it was my dad that got mad. From that day until I was 35 I experimented with different styles of haircuts and length of hair. Then I saw my first grey hair and thought I would get a 'jump on that' and bought some "nice and easy" and changed it to blond. My mother in law thought I was a sinner for doing that. I thought it was my birth right since I was born blond. I dyed it myself for 10 years until the day I must have used old chemicals because it turned green. Off I went to the hair dresser and he has been in charge of keeping me blond ever since. I have had my hair short now for 20 or more years. There isn't much you can do to change the look of short hair at my age. I pretty well always look the same. I don't give it much thought unless I can see it is time to go to the hair dresser again. I am amazed at the styles of the young girls today. They will pay a fortune at the salon and come out looking to me like it needs to be combed. I guess that is a real sign of old age when you can't understand why the young do their hair the way they do.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Goldie - Now I see where you got your name. I bet you look really cute with your baby barrettes. I am going to check out your pictures on myspace.
ReplyDeleteLynn - The night owls were really having fun last night weren't they? I think they were into the jello shots.
I bet your hair looks just great.
I know what you mean, however, when sometimes your hair drives you crazy. Mine does that for the few days before I get it cut.
That was number 10 and I think the owls have moved out. I will see if they have gone to myspace. Be back later.
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteI don't care about haircuts that much anymore. I usually get it kind of short with some layers.
I'd love to have long hair again, but it is really hard with my job, and don't like wearing a pony tail too much any more.
We have smoke again, yesterday and today. We did get a little break from the terrible air, but it's back!
Congrats to Iteach this morning!
Good morning Iteach! Congrats on 1st!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Tinka, Lynn D and Goldie!
Scirish I have had two hair stlyes in my life...long and short. When I was real small (age not size) I had a pixie cutand then I grew it long. At one point I had to move it every time I sat down.
About five years ago I was walking by a beauty parlor and the sign said walk in appointments, so I walked in and had my hair cut very, very short. It's been that way ever since. I'm not the curling, spritzing, spraying kind of gal. I have never put anything on my hair except shampoo and conditioner.
I worked in a bakery for 14 years. My hair was in a hairnet so I didn't care what it looked like. Getting up at 3:30 or 4:00am I was not about to fuss with my hair.
Now that I have short hair I can't stand it getting long. Right now it's twice as long as normal and it's driving me mental! But I don't have the money to get it cut. It's only about $15 or $20 but it may as well be $150 or $120 cuz I don't have it. I have cut my bangs a couple times in the last 2 months. Now you know why I don't go out much and why I'm not a hairdresser.
Boy I have been writing some very long comments lately. Wonder what that's all about? You either can't get me to say anything or you can't get me to shut up. Well I'll shut up now and let other have their say.
I'm back with breakfast!

Hi EBJ!
Happy Monday Owls.
ReplyDeleteScirish, great blog topic. I said to myself this morning that I was just going to do a quick fly by before I left for my monthly appointment to "wash that grey right outta my hair" and as I read the blog I couldn't stop laughing. I have been thinking all weekend about how I can get a cut that I won't have to fuss with all the time.
Goldie, my hair is just like yours - very fine and getting thinner every day - and my sister also has thick hair and a lot of it. There is no justice. She wishes she didn't have so much hair and I would kill for more. Now I am taking prednisone which is contributing to my thinning hair even more. argggghhhhh
I will beg the hairdresser this morning to do something that will look better than what I have now and she will tell me she isn't a miracle worker and for this I pay her dearly and will even tip her.
Gotta go now, but waving a wing at Iteach (congrats on #1), Tinka, LynnD, EBJ, and all who land after me. BBL
Happy Monday!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning....
Iteach - congrats on FIRST!!
waving at Iteach, Tinka, Lynn D, Goldie, EBJ, and SHirley!!

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!

ReplyDeleteHi Shirley. I didn't see you in the kitchen preparing breakfast. I think I'll grab a smoothie to drink while my hairdresser ponders my dilemma. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey MEK. We were typing at the same time. Have a good day. I am off now.
ReplyDeleteScirish - GREAT blog today!! I have not had a GOOD haircut since I moved to AZ - I've paid high dollar and low dollar and nothing works!!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up - I had the thickest hair - it started turning gray before I was 16 - the gray caused me to NEVER be able to get a perm - (oh that was a disaster!!)
I had the same guy cut and color my hair for 17 years in Colorado - he was WONDERFUL - I NEVER had a bad haircut!!! - my lupus has caused my hair to thin faster than one will EVER know!! But he always gave me a great cut!!!
So - I have come to grips with the fact that - there is nothing I can do - my hair is what it is!!
SacBarb - good luck at your haircut!! I need to get one before I go to Colorado -
ReplyDeleteI go to this little place - kinda like a great clips - the owner is from Canada and I love to hear his stories - he doesn't do a bad job - and it's only $14.00!!
:-)
OH - and I have ALWAYS had terrible haircuts from women! I have to have a man cut my hair!!!
Shirley - thanks for breakfast!!
25 for Goldie
ReplyDeleteOh that hair!
ReplyDeleteGoldie ummm baby barretts are cute! I don't know what to say. I do have a spot thinning and of course it is in the front. Mine is from my hormonal changes that shift like the San Andreas fault line.
Tinka I like the messy bed head look. Unfortunately when I try to get my hair to look that way I just look like I should put on a many layers and a housecoat and grab my shopping cart. Kind of crazy bag lady!
Shirley nets should only be used to catch animals! I hate that they make people wear those things! But a hair in my food is a real turn off!
One question I have had over the years is why every hair dresser trys to send me out of their salon looking like a Texas Prom Queen??? No offense to anyone in Texas but my hair was not meant to be that high! I just look ridiculous! I get in the car and try to flatten it with my hands. I am sure people think I am crazy!
One last comment before I'm off for the morning...
ReplyDeleteit thundered and lighteninged (is that a word) until past 2a.m, YIKES - I feel like I've been thru a battle..
from yesterday - LOL at Want2 - don't think anyone would want to see me in a beach volleyball uniform!! AAGGHH.....
Bebbi - sorry to hear about your aunt!! (((HUGS)))
okay one more..
ReplyDeleteLynn D - LMAO at texas hair!!
Good morning MEKaroni!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to find a hairdresser! I had a great one in Puyallup but I am unwilling to drive for an hour to go back to her.
I love the gal that does my hair now but sometimes she and I get our wires crossed when it comes to the cut. I came home last time and my daughter asked me why I had a mushroom on my head?
Why did I have children?
Iteach I have an idea in my head when I go to the hairdresser too and it never lives up to the reality of what I want.
Why did I have children?
Crap I seem to be spelling weird today Tries tries tries.
ReplyDeleteHow the hell did I get Trys?
Well I think I have had to much coffee.
ReplyDeleteShould have erased the second why did I have children? Roflmao

ReplyDeleteGood morning again- thanks for 25 MEK-
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful hairdresser- Kyle. The great thing about Kyle is that he knows my hair and doesn't try to do things that won't work or give me high expectations that I will come out looking like Jacquline Smith or someone.
He laughs when I show him mag pics and says ever so gently " are you shitting me?" God I love that man- he is nothing but honest- and he does what he can with what he has to work with!
Shirley- I love it when you are gabby instead of silent. Keep it up gilr- and thanks for breakfast. However, I stood on the scale this morning- oopsie..... no pancakes for me.
gril? GIRL- I must of had too much of what lynn was having..
ReplyDeletegilr not gril and it was supposed to be girl- now I KNOW I had too much coffee!
ReplyDeleteLynn - why DID you have children!! LOL
ReplyDeleteGoldie - I hear ya on the great hair guy..
my guy in COlorado would laugh at me when I would bring in magazine pictures - but i always left looking like a million bucks!!
I kept telling Mr. MEK that I was going to go back to Colorado everytime I needed my hair cut - but - I weaned myself and decided not to torture myself with a GREAT cut to have to come back home to NOT so good.......
BUT - when I went back for my 30th reunion - I decided that MY GUY was going to cut my hair (I had to look good for the reunion) - I had called his salon before going - but the number had been disconnected - (he moved around ALOT) - so - I went to the place where they buy their products to ask which salon he was working out of - well, the gals face went WHITE!!! she got the manager and she asked me WHY i was asking for him - so i explained that I had moved and he was WONDERFUL and I needed to find him ........
Well, he had commited suicide six months earlier - she thought it was a terrible joke that I was pulling!! I was devastated!! what a waste!! SO - now, I can't even go to Colorado for the perfect cut!!
I erased my comment because I was way out in my numbers. Owls were flying in as I was typing.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning - East Bay J, Shirley, SacBarb, and Mek.
Shirley - Maybe a friend would cut your hair. Lots of people love doing that and if it's not a fancy cut it's not hard. My daughter and her friends used to always cut each others' hair. I know it's an awful feeling when you know your hair is too long. It never looks as bad as it feels. I know I look in the mirror and I think why does it feel so bad when it doesn't look that messy?
Thanks for breakfast. After our High Tea the other day I am going to stick to fruit and Slim Fast today and tomorrow. Well maybe a little toast and tea. You are a sweetheart.
Scirish - I forgot to say "What a great blog". I am having such fun reading everybody's thoughts about hair. I didn't realize it was such a universal concern, having a bad hair day. I have refused offers to be taken to lunch because I have felt my hair looked so awful. I would never tell anyone that. It sounds so shallow so I make up another excuse. I admire people who have a good head for wearing hats. That would be very convenient.
I am off to have breakfast. Have a good day everyone. See you this afternoon.

ReplyDeleteGood Morning/Afternoon Owls!
ReplyDeleteGreat hair stories everyone!
Lynnd...I too have fallen victim to the "Big Hair" look....and I HATE hairspray! So now I ask to blow dry my own.
I had to rush Zack to the animal hospital this morning as I was convinced he was dying. He was restless all night and was acting like he had a tummy ache. He finally got to sleep at three am. When I got up to go the bathroom at 6, he sat on my foot and when he got up there was blood all over my slipper. I totally freaked!!! It turned out that he had an abcessed anal gland and it had ruptured. He has meds and I'm hoping it heals or he will have to have surgery. It is still leaking so I have to confine him which he is not pleased about.
What a way to start the day!
Good morning! Oops, it just turned afternoon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first, iteach!
Scirish, great blog. I have been forever in search of the perfect hairstyle. I think I've tried them all, and all colors, too! My natural color is dark brown but I've been red, blonde and all colors known (and unknown) to man.
I used to have very curly hair but not so much now. I think it's because of my thyroid or just changes as we age but my Mom swears it's because I ruined it when I put "afro-sheen" on it when I was 15 to straighten it. Let me tell you, it was so straight it stuck straight out from the top of my head! It felt like straw but I didn't care--it was straight!!
Now I'm blonde because I'm so gray that it's just easier to blend. It's funny though, I have to stop and think if someone describes me as having blonde hair--in my mind I'm still a brunette.
Thanks for making me laugh this morning with all the hair stories.
EBJ, SacBarb, Ronnie, cpgem, amicus, and all other bachelorette fans!!!
ReplyDeleteTonight is FINALLY the finale'!!!
I have NO idea who she will pick - I feel sorry for either one of these guys!!
It will be VERY interesting - if not AMAZING!!!!!!!!
We'll see who 'put their whole heart into this" and 'put themselves outthere!!!'
:-)
HA HA - off to do my hair!! LOL

ReplyDeleteMEK and all Bachelorette "fans":
ReplyDeleteDid you catch GMA this morning? Deanna was on and she said that Jeremy is the one who comes back tonight!
I will go out on a limb and guess that she picks him and send the other 2 packing.
I'm off to the other house to wait for the carpet installer, and Goodwill to pick up all the CRAP that they left when they abandoned the house.
She did leave some good stuff, besides a big bag of marijuana that the police found last week, a Bissell vacume cleaner, several women's leather jackets, washer and dryer, 2 tv sets, DVD player, and other stuff I can sell on Craigslist (the police took the dope!)
Bye for now! Have a great day everyone!
Good morning everyone! Iteach, congrats on being first and second this morning!
ReplyDeleteScirish, great blog! My hair is wild. (If you look at my pictures when I was a kid, you can see it was always a mess)! I have always had very thick hair (and still do). When I was a kid, my mom always insisted it was short (as it was easier to manage). When it would get long, I could never get a brush through it (and the knots)! When I was older, I let it grow long and hated it, so I had short hair most of the time. After high school, it has always been longer. At one point it was very long. Then I have kept it about shoulder length. It has been getting longer again, but I need it long in the summer so I can put it up (because I can't stand it touching my neck when it's hot out)!
I'm sick of my hair, but I don't know what to do with it. It is wavy and doesn't do what I often wish it would do. I have never had a perm (in fear of it looking like an "fro" and I have never had to have it colored....YET)!
I have a girl from work cut it and she never charges much (but I always pay her more and tell her it's with the tip)! One time, though, we were talking about work and she was getting mad. She ended up cutting it uneven! I showed up at school the next day and showed her! I made her promise not to be angry when she cut my hair! I often warn her kids and husband not to make her mad when she is cutting my hair! ; )
I think my problem why I don't like my hair is that I don't like my face! I guess I want a look that will immediately slim my face!!!
48...that's better!
ReplyDeleteGodie: My daughter has hair like yours! She has blond, thin hair and barrettes don't work! She didn't get my thick hair, but her dad's (and he's bald now)! Not sure where her blond hair came from as her dad and I both have brown hair.
ReplyDeleteShirley, I agree with Goldie that it is much better that you are a chatter box! ; ) Glad to see you in the nest so much! ((HUGS)) to you. I know what it's like not to have money, believe me!
Morning to Tink, Lynn D, EBJ, Scabarb, MEK, and Sandie. Hope I didn't leave anyone out!
Morning to all who fly in after me!
MEK: I'm sorry to hear you have lupus. My cousin has lupus and I know how difficult it can be at times. She has really been controlling it pretty well with diet and exercise. I hope yours is under control too. My heart goes out to you!
Shirley: Thanks for the great breakfast again too!

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sandie and Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteScirish - I am so sorry to hear about Zack. I hope those meds work. You don't want him to go through an operation or for you to have the big bill that comes with it. Before anyone gets a pet today you really have to ask yourself if you can afford one. Even if the pet is free the Vet bills can bankrupt you.
Shirley - I forgot to tell you it's okay that you sneaked in and took flowers for the owls' table. I like to contribute something. Beneath my family room window is lavender in great bloom right now. The fragrance is soothing and almost puts me to sleep as it has seeped into this room. I will soon cut it and hang it upside down until it is dried. My mother-in-law used to make sachet bags for everyone. I can't be bothered with that but I do love the smell of dried lavender.
Jennifer - Your daughter has beautiful hair. Her pictures are so gorgeous. You are beautiful too. She looks just like you.
Sandie - It's funny how we get an image of ourselves. You feel brunette and yet you are blond. My hair was only naturally blond for the first few years of my life but all the years my hair was much darker (not really a brunette) I thought of myself as blond and took offense at blond jokes. I guess the joke was really on me.
East Bay J - At least you got something for all the work you did with the house. I hope you get a good price for all the things left. Too bad there wasn't a bag of rolled up money instead of pot. The police wouldn't have taken money would they?
Mek - What a sad story about your hair stylist. I wonder what made him do that? I agree I like having a man cut my hair. I had one for years but he had a mental breakdown. Maybe it's the stress of the job because that's another sad story. I have a woman now and she is good but a man puts the extra touch on it I think. Maybe I am just imagining that.
Bebbi - Please check in and tell us how your aunt is doing.
I must get something done. See you all later.

ReplyDeleteGreat blog Skirish. I took Cosmetology when I was 18. I used to love working with hair. I love to watch make overs. I really like that new thing out with deep colored hair underneath blond hair and high lights and layering. It all depends on a person's face shape and then hair cuts depend on texture.I love a good ceramic flat iron. My favorite hair spray in the world is Sammy in the orange can that has no sticky residue and you can volumize your hair and redo the hair spray for touch ups. Sammy never makes your hair stick together. I'll quit now. You got onto a subject that I really enjoy. Thanks! :0)
ReplyDeleteEveryone keep Grandma Moses in your thoughts. She and her entire family including children and grandchildren are on a cruise to Bermuda with that horrible storm turning into a hurricane. It is predicted to go on a path at Bermuda and up the east coast. I know that the cruise ship will receive plenty of advanced warning but still it worries me.
Shhhhhhh....don't tell anyone, but I have virgin hair. Yes, that is what all the stylists tell me because I have never colored or permed my hair. It cracks me up and I always tell my husband that I am still a virgin, even with 3 kids!
ReplyDeleteI have naturally wavy hair, but I hate how frizzy it gets unless styled with lots of "product." When someone takes the time to do my hair I actually like it, but who has the time to use all those foams and sprays and then blow dry (NOT blow job, Tina!) every strand, only to follow up with a straightening iron. I wish I had Asian hair. I love the women who have stick straight, thick, glossy hair. To me it is perfection!
In the summer, my hair MUST be long enough for a ponytail or hairtwist, but in the fall I plan to cut it again because it was nice to actually have a style. I might even have enough to do my second donation to Locks of Love.
I might go back now and watch online The Bachelorette:Men Tell All and really look at how Deanna looks at Jeremy when he is being talked to. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't return and make her change her mind. I wonder if there are any hidden clues in that show that weren't obvious before we knew that he goes back to talk to her. Hmmmmmm...
oh good lord, according to Glynis I am 1/3rd Asian and I didn't even know it! I have the stick straight part down pat. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL at having virgin hair.
Keeping g/m and family in my thoughts- what a crappy thing to happen on your vacation. Had a friend go thru a hurrican in the carribean while on a cruise ship many years ago- said she had never been so sick in her whole life!
Glynis! I have "virgin hair" too! LOL!!! I think our hair is similar as I have to have it long in the summer too so I can pull it up! In the fall is when I cut it too! WHO KNEW we were "hair sisters"! ; )
ReplyDeleteScirish: I'm sorry about your fur baby too! I hope he is doing better! It's so hard when they get sick and can't tell you what is the matter! I'm glad it wasn't that serious!
80...there...now I can get going again and get some work done around the house! ; )
ReplyDeleteHey everyone. I'm back and no miracles here. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteGlynis, my sister just tole me that DeAnna was on GMA and said Jeremy comes back tonight. It should be interesting.
Scirish, keeping your Zach in prayer for a speedy and easy recovery.
EBJ, too bad the cops took the stuff. It could have made for a more interesting BABB.
Shirley got a 69...Yay for you.
I'm going to get some lunch and watch All My Children. BBL
oops...my sister TOLD me, not tole me...who talks like that?
ReplyDeleteEgads now my hair gives me away as Ho!
ReplyDeleteWho new I was actually devirginized when I was about 13 and got my first perm?
Scrishy: I hope Zach feels better soon!
Jennifer: You hair sounds just like my youngest daughters. It was a nightmare keeping it snarl free!
Hoping GM and her family are safe!
Ok back to the laundry and other fun household chores.
Hey Dreama! Nice to see you! Thanks for the hair tips--I'll have to find some Sammy! LOL
ReplyDeleteScirish, I hope your fur baby is well soon. Poor Zack, I'm sure it didn't feel nice for him and a bit embarrassing, too!
Glynis and Jennifer, Wow, virgin hair. My hair is so not virgin. It has seen it and done it all. And I dare say enjoyed it!!
scirish...so sorry about your poor zack's.....ummmmmm....anal problem.... seriously though, poor thing. that must have hurt like hell.
ReplyDeletesandi....my hair is the same as yours. it was very dark as a kid, but as i aged i got so much grey in it that my hairstylist has made it lighter brown underneath, and 2 blonde colors on top to cover and blend with the grey. but after 8 weeks i have a nice grey streak at my roots that bugs the crap out of me! i really really like the way my stylist colors and cuts my hair, but dang she is messy. she gets color all over my forehead, ears, sides of my face. I have asked her to wipe it off before it drys, but she never gets it all and i'm always having to go home and scrub the shit off.
Barb_in_wa, my stylist does that, too! I go home with a brownish forehead!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm gray in the front so my streak shows up about every 10 days. I hate it. I've just started using this crayon thing called "Tween Times" and you wet it and color it on your hair. It comes out when you shampoo. It holds me over for a few weeks.
What a pain!!!
Sometimes I just want to be brave and go gray. I have dreams of looking like Paula Deen. But then I wake up!
ReplyDeleteBesides, how do you ever go gray? Seems to me you'd have to shave your head or look like crap for quite a while while it grows out! Don't think I could do either of those things.
Can't wait to watch Bachelorette tonight! I just don't know who she'll pick but I do feel sorry for the guy. She puts herself a little too far out there, I think! Do you really think it might be Jeremy?? Who knows, she's so weird.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll admit I'm a litte chatty today . . . but I have to tell you about my hair salon.
ReplyDeleteI used to go to a really nice, upscale place where they treat you like a queen. The trouble was I felt like no matter which stylist I tried, I looked like every other woman walking out of there--and I just couldn't get them to do what I wanted.
So, one day I was shopping and complemented a woman on her hair. She told me where she goes so I made an appointment. Well, it was this hole-in-the-wall place downtown. The stylists were making comments about every guy that walked in, a married policeman came in and flirted with all the women (my stylist said he was having an affair with one), one stylist's teen-aged daughter screamed at her and when I seemed shocked my stylist told me that her mom was an alcholic bitch, and then my stylist told me she had been married for years but had two affairs. Then the alcoholic bitch came over while I was getting my hair rinsed and said, "Did you see the guy I just cut? The things I could do to that man!"
Whoa!! It turns out I loved the cut and really enjoyed the soap opera! So, I still go there and I just never know what will be happening next! It cracks me up! Especially compared to where I used to go. LOL!!
Sandie: I think Jeremy is coming back just to tell DeAnna off. I, too, feel sorry for whomever she picks and I doubt it will last very long. In fact, it may be over already!
ReplyDeleteSandie: LMAO at your hair salon soap opera. Mine is the same way and my manicurist is there too, so I am there every other week at least.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is a new place across the parking lot from the salon that they are sure is a 'massage with a happy ending' place. A few girls work there and they have only seen men go in and come out with big smiles on their faces. One of the hairdressers went in to see if she could make an appointment and they were very vague about the 'services' they rendered. We figure it won't be open much longer. LOL
SacBarb, that's so funny about the massage palor!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the time Mr. Sandie gave me a gift certificate for a massage at a place in our town that I'd never heard of. Before I could even go, it got raided and closed down for prostitution! I was so mad at him! All I could think of was what if I had been there when they raided it and my naked butt had to run outside!!
My internet has been down!! YIKES..
ReplyDeleteI just saw the tv schedule for tonight - not only to we get the two hour finale - where those two poor guys get to meet her family, then they go on their last roll in the hay before she dumps one of them.....
but - then - we have the "why did she make the choice she did" show for another hour afterwards!!
THREE WHOLE HOURS of DEANNA!!!
and - the promos are pronouncing her name WRONG!!! LMAO!!!

OMG Sandie- too funny about your husbands lovely idea of a 'gift'. I can just picture your face when you found out that the place had been raided!
ReplyDeleteGoldie - congrats at 100!! You win some barrettes!!!
ReplyDelete;-)
Great topic, Scirish (and keep us posted on Zack)! Who doesn't have hair(raising) stories? Bear? Joey?...do tell!
ReplyDeleteSandie & Shirley~~Chat on!! Loved the 'soap opera salon' story.
Glynis~Because my hair is naturally blonde and naturally curly I, too, always coveted thick shiny black 'Asian' hair or at least hair that could get windblown and then just fall neatly back into place.
I've worn mine as long as mid-back but usually above the shoulders. What I dislike most about natural curl is that there are two options...totally disheveled or 'too neatly styled'. Now that I'm older than dirt, and on thyroid meds, the curl is more relaxed. I'm grateful that it's now short and all I have to do is wash and blow-dry (to avoid the curls). For a lot of years after it became darker blonde, I'd get highlights done. I'm actually thrilled that it's 'naturally highlighted' now to the ash blonde I used to pay for! I don't have 'salt n' pepper', I have 'salt n garlic' :-=)
Goldie~Good march!
Yes, Goldie, and he still loves telling the story.
ReplyDeleteRemember a few years back when everybody wanted to be a readhead? With my Scandanavian coloring I thought 'WOW, I can do this!' Big mistake. The only thing worse than a 'bottle-blonde' with dark roots is a redhead with blonde roots!
ReplyDeleteBono - my orginial hair color in real life - was brunette with auburn highlights - (that was the irish in me) - WELL, those auburn hairs were the ones that turned gray on me!!
ReplyDeletedidn't start coloring my hair until I turned 30 - just about scared the crap out of myself the next morning - looking in the mirror - I thought - WHO IN THE HELL IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
my hair was making me look OLD -
Then - later - I told my hair guy - my hair used to be auburn - well, he did it "auburn" - people started calling me RED!! - so we went back to medium brown!!
:-)
Scirish - hope your puppy is going to be okay!!

ReplyDeleteI just woke from my nap and I see a lot of neat stories about virgin hair and people turning Asian. I can't just skim the comments so I will save them to read after I get something to eat.
ReplyDeleteI was not able to scan pictures with my new Canon printer. I spent 2 hours this morning on the phone with a Canon guy back East. His accent made him difficult to understand his English. Apparently Canon has not kept up with McIntosh soft ware. That was a huge surprise to me. Anyway he walked me through upgrading my new printer with my new Mac and now I can scan all the pictures of Tango as quickly as I want to. I want to make a DVD of Tango and I had her 8 years before I had a digital camera so it may take me a while. I am just so happy my printer didn't need to go back to the shop.
I will be back after I read the Hair stories.
Sacbarb: I want to go to your hairdresser! LOL Entertaiment and a manicure!
ReplyDeleteSandy: I was rolling on the floor. I'll bet he has not bought you another Gift Certificate since! LOL
Ok on a serious note, I just saw a news report and read on CNN News that there are starting to be serious questions about the Gardasil vacine for young girls for HPV.
Evidently there have been over 7,000 incidents and reports placed. Cases of getting very sick, Pancreatitis, paralysis and possible death.
Merck is trying to say most of them are just coincidence.
Personally I would not let my daughters get this vaccine. I told Mr. Lynn D at the time that I did not think they did enough studies on it.
So please research it if you have a daughter, niece or granddaughter in the age frame for this drug before she gets the actual vaccine.
Mamma Mia! update:
ReplyDelete"All four members of the iconic pop group Abba made a rare reunion appearance for the premiere of Mamma Mia! in their native Sweden. The group has not performed together since 1986 and has reportedly turned down offers totalling $1 billion to reunite for concert tours. The group attended the premiere to the delight of thousands of enthusiastic fans who cheered when Abba appeared on the theater balcony with cast members of the film including Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. The movie is getting unexpectedly enthusiastic reviews and has helped heat up sales of Abba records. There are 22 songs by the group featured in the film."
I didn't even like ABBA, but can't wait for this movie!
You all may remember my daughter is Asian and she has the most gorgeous hair. In the sun it has the most beautiful deep red highlights. I'm so envious!
ReplyDeleteScirish....great blog~ Sorry though about Zach~
ReplyDeleteI love going to get my hair cut. I've told Jenny over and over again, I don't go because of what she does with my hair, because I really don't care what she does (except for the time she turned it jet black!)....I go for the entertainment. Everyone there is a character and even the employees from nearby businesses come and entertain me! Recently, I interviewed a couple of the other hairdressers to see which one I would want in case Jenny were to die. We had a great laugh that day!~ Funny thing is, no one was jumping at the chance to cut and color my hair! hmmmmmm~
BTW....i have a hard time answering when someone asks me what color my hair is....I think it's gray, but once a month, Jenny puts whatever color mix she wants to in it~
iteach~ congrats on first~
SacBarb~ from yesterday.....I don't know how cum we can't use that word~ :)~
Glynis~ Are you comparing me to a dead man? :)~
Zona~ I'm waiting for your hair story~ :D
SANDIE: Next time your husband is telling that story, ask him how he even knew about that place to begin with to get a present for you. lol BTW, where do you get that Tween Times color and what is the brand?
ReplyDeleteSACBARB: My hair is thinning too and I think it is because I have been on prednisone for so much of this year. I have always had thick hair that had to be thinned every month. I hate trying to cover the "spots".
TINA: Your hairdresser probably tells the others that YOU are their entertainment!! The interviewing is not such a bad idea. My hairdresser of 17 years had a stroke and was gone from the store and even knowing who we were overnight. It was very sad. I always told him that I was with him longer than a husband! I still go to the same place to the person that was right next to him all those years. She found the "right" color but I usually always hate my hair. I like it when she fixes it but I never can do the same.
TINK: Did I read that you were going to make us all sachet bags? I am so glad to hear that because mine are "smelled out" over the years.
SHIRLEY: You are such a doll..gingerbread pancakes again..thank you a million times!!
MEK and other fans...you have made me more excited for the show tonight than I was. I had not heard that Jeremy was coming back on. Maybe DeAnna will calm down after she is off tv and all the attention. The last time with that English guy they didn't have the part after he picked the girl so I am glad they are doing that again...just to see if they like each other now.
Off to watch Bachelorette!
ReplyDeleteDianne, you're right--how did he know about that place???
ReplyDeleteI get the crayon thing, Tween Times, made by Roux, at the beauty supply store. I didn't like it at first but after getting the hang of it, it works for me. Just remember to get a shade slightly darker than your shade because hair is naturally darker at the roots. When I tried to match my color, it didn't work out so well.
Dye_in_Denver~ OF COURSE I entertain them...i'm a goof~ The first hairdresser I had when I moved to Utah was very young and had a stroke. It was so sad. Jenny, who I go to now, was recently diagnosed with MS....she tells me that she falls quite a bit, and in true tina fashion, I fall when I get out of the chair just so she doesn't feel bad~ :D Of course, I can't do anything about either one of us needing depends when we are together~
ReplyDeleteGood Evening Feathered Friends!
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH...awesome blog topic! I don't know why I get so nervous going to the hairdresser, whatever they do will grow back in a few short months. Oh well.
My hair must be a tramp whore trollup and strumpet! I have straightened it, colored it and colored it some more! So much for virgin hair!
My current color is calico! Black, reddish, brown and grey. I was born with black hair and have run out of money to re-dye it, so the colors are all over the place! I say I have grey highlights put it! It is also very wavy to curly and thin but a lot of it. If I don't blow dry and flat iron it, especially in the humid summer it becomes a weapon of mass destruction! It is quite long now and I cut my bangs myself.
SANDIE...can you do a video of your salon? LOL!
SHIRLEY...I like it when you are chatty!
I loved all your stories and forgive me for not commenting to each of you. Long day today.
TINA - I can't imagine you being a goof. :P
ReplyDeleteI have had it all, the long, the short and everything in between!!! I have been turning gray since high school.....so I'm sure I'm at least 50% there. But hell to the bloody no if I'm gonna go au natural!!! Right now I have it cut pretty short, and color it from a box. I usually get one of the root kits for in between colors.
Woo hoo!!! Tim's team won tonight. :D
I'll catch my late night HO's when I get up for work.
Good night HOoters!!!
Sandie: I had the same thought as Dianne about how Mr. Sandie knew about that massage parlor. So did he got the gift cert for you on one of his 'visits?'
ReplyDeleteGoldie: congrats on marching to 100
Bon'O: LOL at your salt n garlic hair and thanks for the Mama Mia/Abba update.
Lynn: 7000 is coincidence? How many does it take to be suspicious?
Tina: Yes, you are a goof.
MEK: Martha Stewart had a Vet on today that said the reason dogs go crazy in thunder storms is because of the static electricity created right before the thunder, so if you know a storm is coming, rub you dog with fabric softener sheets and it will eliminate the static on the dogs coat. May be worth a try.
OMG - Mr. MEK is doing Wii Fit again!!! LMAO - told him he had to be finished before 7pm - MUST watch DeAnna!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteOH - doesn't Jeremy returning remind you of that gal that tried to get Jesse, the QB, to go to her room with her while on a date with someone else... This should be VERY interesting - I can't wait!!!
SacBarb - thanks for that tip - I will TRY that tonight - he really did become a lap dog last night - I have the scratches to prove it!!
:-)
jodi - nite, nite...
Just a fly by to thank everyone for the good wishes for Zack...He has had a very difficult day. I think he is scared and in a bit of pain, he won't let me out of his sight and wants me to hold him. He doesn't understand why I have to do this with a towel around him....When he walks anywhere, he skitters, like he is trying to get away from his butt. If I wasn't afraid for him, it would be funny. I hope tomorrow is a better day!
ReplyDeleteFor the sexy owls with thinning hair....there is a wonderful product line called Nioxin.. It was originally made for women with thinning hair, but it does wonders for those with fine hair too. I use the root spray and am still amazed at the body it gives my hair. I have a lot of it, but it is fine and can either frizz or flop in high humidity. I had a friend with very fine blonde hair use it after we went swimming and her husband even commented on how great her hair looked! Amazing huh?
There is just too much entertaining and interesting 'stuff' to comment on it all so I will just say "Thanks for the fun". Maureen, your line, "My hair must be a tramp whore trollup and strumpet!" will go down in infamy.
ReplyDeleteDianne - I can't sew anymore but in a few weeks I will have a box of fresh lavender seeds if anyone wants to make the owls lavender sachets. They say if you put it under your pillow you will sleep better.
No everyone has told their hair story yet so I shall be back later for more laughs. I am going to walk my 'babies'. It is a gorgeous evening.
See you later. Be Good Tonight.
Scirish - You posted while I was typing. Give Zack a warm hug from me. The poor baby doesn't know what's wrong. I feel so sorry about that. I hope we get better news about him tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJust Lin - OH - how I wish you were here to enjoy this with me. I just laughed SO hard, I just about choked to death!!
ReplyDelete(he tried the hula hoop!!! LMAO)
Hi All!
ReplyDeleteBusy day for me, but I finally made it for a minute.
Thanks for the hugs Mek.
Congrats on first iteach.
Funny story about hair, when my sister was little she had really thick hair and she never took care of it. It would get big rats that took my mom and I hours to comb out. I always told her that her hair would get thin if she didn't take care of it! Well, I was so WRONG! Her hair is as thick as ever at 40! Lucky Duck! She has great hair and I got the thin old stick hair that looks the same when I was little as it does now..lol. Oh well!
I hope everyone had a good Monday getting back to work and all. I know I sure did. I had a lot of errands that I didn't run over the long weekend so I had to make up for them tonight..ugggh!
Sheesh Scirish, that would have totally freaked me out too. I hope that Zack is feeling better all the time. The poor thing!!! Wow, what a story!

I always say I won't watch the next season of it, and then there won't be anything else on and I watch.
Does anyone know if the last couple (British guy and Lorenzo Lamas daughter) are still together??
