Sunshine in a Child!

my cousins are heading to Nantucket today
for two weeks, i spoke to my godchild yesterday
and she was so very excited, she is all packed and
ready to go!

our conversation this evening, reminded me so
how a child thinks, and how a child can be so excited
for something they love

i asked my god child (5yrs old) if she was all packed,
and she said very happily "yes except for my ipod"
and i thought oh my, she can just fit it in her pocket
yet she new it was not in her packed bag!

she preceded to tell me that they plan on having
a lemonade stand, they are going to set it up on
the beach and sell lemonade to anyone who is thirsty,
i asked "how much are you going to charge for the
lemonade" she replied "i don't know" i then said
"well you can't give it away for free" and she had
the perfect come back "why not", well she had a
point, as i told her she can do as she pleases its
her lemonade stand!

my cousins have been vacationing in Nantucket for
5yrs now, and they love it, they don't mind the
5hr drive, as they are well prepared, i have never been,
however i have seen their pictures, it is such
a beautiful seaside town, the houses are of many
colors, and happiness is seen everywhere

one year, my cousins neighbor lost his rolex
watch, he thought it was gone forever, his wife tho
had hope, so she went to the police station and left
her number with them in case a rolex watch was found
two days later they got a phone call, someone had
found the watch and turned it in, it was as good as new

can you imagine that happening in your town?

so for two weeks my godchild and her brother
will be playing on the beach, catching crabs, eating
ice cream, flying kites, and most important
soaking up the sunshine

as a child will alway be sunshine, wherever they may be!

  7. Morning Glories!

Hi Tinka and Mo! Top of the morning to you!

Carol I love this blog! To a loved child anything is possible. I hope she never loses her innocence to soon and her heart warming unselfishness! Will she send me some lemonade?

I too want to go to Nantaucket!

I think I just thought of something to add to my bucket list. Visit all of the beaches in the US. That would be blissful!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Iteach any licked donuts left at your house? I will take one please!

  10. Lynn,

All we have today is soggy cheerios left in the bowl, floor, and on their clothes.

    Which would you prefer?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Iteach I will take the ones in the bowl thank you very much! LMAO

  12. I got side-tracked on the phone.
Good Morning Lynn and Iteach. There are a lot of early birds missing this morning. I guess it's a beautiful morning for everyone to be doing things outside. It's lovely here right now. I love when it's warm enough to eat outside on the deck. There are only a few short weeks when we can do that.

  13. I love your blog Carol. I can just picture it in my mind. When I hear the word Nantucket I always think of the original "Cheaper by the Dozen" movie. The family of 12 had a house on Nantucket where they would go every summer. It probably isn't much different now than it was back in 1920 - the beach that is, not the houses around it.

  14. Good Morning Everyone!!

CPGEM: All Mr Z's nieces and nephews are in their 20's, and all the neighborhood children have grown up as well. I don't get to interact too much with kids anymore. I love it when my cousin visits with his little girl and boy, but it isn't very often, as our schedules don't really allow for it. When they do come over, it is so fun to hear their take on the world and everything in it. It keeps me smiling for days.

TINKA: Congrats on FIRST!! It was wonderful to talk to you, and to hear Tango and Tia playing in the background! Have a great day today!

MO: "..who kept all her cash in a bucket.." ;)

    Hi LYNND! Hi ITEACH!

  15. My children go camping every year at Cowichan Lake. It's a beautiful spot. It's their little Nantucket. There are usually about 30, family and friends who camp there the same two weeks every July. They will be leaving next Saturday. I always miss them but know they are having a wonderful time.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Zona-my-Baby - Thanks for spending my first hour this morning on the phone. I would rather talk to you than do housework any day of the week but Saturdays are special. I don't do housework on the weekend. It was such fun talking about our mothers and houses. Tia has finally stopped barking. I can't wait until September when she goes back to school. She is losing the training that she got last year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Zona - I guess you left for myspace. I think I will join you over there. Be back in a while to see who has flown in.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mek - I got the first 25 of the day. Are you proud of me?

  19. Good morning Owls. Happy Saturday. I am taping our local morning show because my granddaughter is going to be on it this morning. They are doing a segment on collections and she collects dragon figures and anything 'dragon' and she has a TON of stuff. They showed up at my son's house at 6am to set up the cameras, etc. in her bedroom.

Tinka: I see you are the early bird today.

Mo: LOL @ 'there once was a girl..." Don't work too hard today.

Iteach: Thanks, but I'll pass on the Cheerios.

Carol: I've never been to Nantucket either, but it is one of the places I would love to go. Like Lynn, it is on my bucket list. I loved going to new places with my kids when they were young. They always had a different perspective on things that we took for granted, like your godchild.

Lynn: Did you find your missing relatives in AZ?

    ReplyDelete
  20. TINKA: Just remember that Tia is on summer vacation too!! LOL!

Ok, I am off to bed..been up since 7:45am yesterday...and we ran around all day. I hope everyone has a great day...oh wait...

MEK: Didn't get the Wii, so for now the 3-way competition is off..;)

TINA: {{HUGS}} hope your tooth is fixed soon..and you feel better.

    DIANNE: Pool is clean again!!!

    SACBARB: Hugs and kisses...;)

    JODI: Hummmmmmmmm......!

Waving HELLO to ALL!!! Goodnight! Big juicy SWAK!!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey Zona. I think we were typing at the same timne. How's your day going so far? or is it still yesterday for you?

  22. Good morning Hooters! Congrats o 1st and 25th Tink!!

I want to go to Nantucket too please. I always have wanted to New England. Someday..

I remember having lemonade stands when I was a kid. Our neighborhood kids used to have them too, but now getting older.

When we first moved to this neighborhood 5 years ago, Mr. Goldie made a HUGE impression on the kids down the street. He was working in the yard and noticed that no one stopped at their stand. So a few hours later he went down and bought a cup of lemonade- and paid $5 for it.

After that, whenever they set up their stand they would come ring the doorbell and ask if Mr. Goldie was thirsty. It was so cute.... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey Zona Good Morning or Good night! LOL

Sacbarb: No I have not found my relatives and hear there are more missing.....the trail runs cold in AZ. Making more missing posters! LOL

Hi Goldie are there more storms today??? I have decided to set up a lemonade stand today can Mr. Goldie come by and have a drink! LOL Hey 5 bucks is 5 bucks! ( I would even throw in a shot of vodka) hehehe

I finished by soggy cheerios ala Iteach and now I am off to clean a toilet.

Oh my glamorous life. Grandkids should be here later this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Zona - It's about time you went to bed. Sometimes I just don't know what I am going to do with you. You were up far too long.

Good Morning Sacbarb - I would love to see that collection of dragons. My niece collects dragons too. I love finding her just the right one.

Good Morning Goldie - If you ever get tired of Mr. Goldie please send him to me. He sounds like a gem to me. Of course we rarely get tired of our precious gems so I had better not hold my breath waiting for him.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good Morning Owls!

Carol: I hope your godchild and her family have a wonderful time in Nantucket. I've never been there, but it looks beautiful. How sweet that she wants to set up a lemonade stand and give it away. :)

I would hope there are people in every town who would do the same thing with the watch. I don't think morals are exclusive to Nantucket. ;)

A few years ago, I forgot I set my purse on top of my car and drove off with it still up there. A sweet lady behind me saw it fall off and stopped to pick it up. I, of course, panicked when I reached my destination and discovered I had lost my purse. What a huge relief it was when I got home and found a message from her on my answering machine. Bless her heart! :)

Waving HI to the early birds:
Tinka, Maureen, Lynn, Iteach, Zona, SacBarb, Goldie!

Back to work! :) Happy Saturday, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tink- I have way too many years of training invested in that man to give him up now! LOL- but he is a gem and I am keeping him...

Lynn, you are right, 5 bucks is 5 bucks. But Mr. Goldie doesn't drink- so save the vodka for me please :)

No storms, and last night didn't happen like they thought (thankfully). We are still in so much trouble in our area with flooding from a month ago that no one wants more. We did get the rain, but at least the trees stayed upright. Today is going to get nice and tomorrow is going to be upper 70's and beautiful. Yeah.

  27. When I was a child we never went on a vacation. My dad owned a store so it was a six days a week job all year. We did always go to Willows beach for a picnic every Sunday. It was such fun. The water temperature was about 55 degrees, which was only 5 degrees warmer than it was in the winter, but we played all day in the water anyways. After a while you didn't even notice it was cold because I think our legs went numb. Summers as a child - ah there was nothing like it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good Morning Amicus - Nice to see you early this morning. Have a good day at work. It's only half a day on Saturday am I right?

Goldie - I didn't think there was much chance but I thought I would ask anyways. You have a good man there. He really is a keeper.

  29. Well my daughter Zona is tucked into bed; my 'fur babies' are fed and exhausted from running around the backyard chasing imaginary fairies or something I can't see; I have visited myspace and answered messages; now I think it is time to sit outside and eat my breakfast. The birds are still singing. They settle down around about this time and they don't sing again until they are getting ready to go to sleep at night. I love the birds. I have lots of feeders and bird baths. I have to keep an eye on Teddy though. He likes birds for a different reason.
Have a good day everyone. I will see you all this afternoon. Tina - I hope your mouth isn't too sore this morning. ((((Hugs)))).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tinka: I love buying dragon stuff for her, but it's hard to find something she doesn't have. When she got her driver's license at 16, I got her car mats and she didn't even have a car yet. However, I knew that her parents were getting her one before she did.

  33. Tinka - congrats on FIRST..

good morning, Tinka, MO, Lynn D, Iteach, Zona, SacBarb, Goldie, and Amicus and anyone that lands..

    Tinka - congrats on 25..

    Lynn D - i think I spotted them -
    :-)

Zona - I'm sorry that you didn't get one today - were they out or did you decide not to get it?

Iteach - I'll take some of the cereal left in the bowl - I discovered I am out of my favorite this a.m.

cpgem - isn't it cute that a 5 year old has an Ipod.. when my brother travels with my nephew - they hook him up in the backseat with his little video player so he can watch movies on the road.. and he LOVES the educational discs that best...

I need to be VERY productive today - have tons to do before our trip and Mr. MEK is NOT playing golf today - so I need to take advantage of him being her for "honey do's"!!

  34. Goldie - no - I left the bag on the counter... good morning..

  35. 'weenie: After that opening, I just can't resist a little homemade attempt:

There once was a girl from Nantucket
Who liked to give head on a bucket
    Until the sea rushed in

Leaving no other choice but to fuck it

  36. Morning Tink, congrats on first!

Good morning to all who have made it in so far:
Tink, Maureen,LynnD, Zona, Iteach, Sacbarb, Goldie, Mek, Amicus and anyone I may have missed because I am not good at scrolling up and down!

Busy day at my house today, got class in about an hour. After that, going to pick up my "little" from BB/BS, although we are no longer in the program, she moved back to this area after an adoption didn't work out and I am going to see her. It has been a year since I have seen her. She is twelve now.

Carol: Great blog today. I love the
way children view everything. It is like a breath of fresh air. How sweet that your neice would say, "Why not!" when talking about giving away the lemonade. Very cute!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tinka: A lot of the vets in my area only work a half day on Saturdays, but all of the groomers I know work a full day, me included. It's our busiest day of the work week. :)

    HI to MEK, Whabby, Bebbi!

  38. Carol~~How perfect to read your blog while listening to the Mamma Mia! Soundtrack this morning. When I listened to the words of Slipping Through My Fingers, they captured the same sense of 'how a child thinks' as your comments about your godchild. I'll post lyrics below to be read or skipped over.

Bebbi~~Sorry I'd left Area 51 last night before seeing your question about the soundtrack. As a music critic, I'd have to say I'm glad the stars have success outside of their musical range (especially Pierce Brosnan!), but I'm sure it'll be a fun listen after seeing the film.

Good Saturday All! Time to don the hiking boots and head for a waterfall. It's gonna get toasty here later.

  39. Slipping Through My Fingers
(from Mamma Mia! Movie Soundtrack....soming soon to a theatre near you!)

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that Im losing her forever
And without really entering her world
Im glad whenever I can share her laughter
    That funny little girl

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
    The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see whats in her mind
Each time I think Im close to knowing
    She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awake, I let precious time go by
Then when shes gone theres that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guilt I cant deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
(slipping through my fingers all the time)
Well, some of that we did but most we didnt
And why I just dont know

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
    The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see whats in her mind
Each time I think Im close to knowing
    She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
    Slipping through my fingers...

Slipping through my fingers all the time

Schoolbag in hand she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile...

  40. Afternoon All!
Carol...How lucky are you? I want to go too...Nantucket is not that far from me, yet I have never been.

Please everyone cross their fingers for me! We may have another buyer for Mom's house, I just pray this one goes through.

Zack is back to his old self thank God! Thanks everyone for the warm wishes and especially Tink for telling me to insist that the hospital give him something. He had a much better night after getting some pain relief!

It is back to work on the house that Mom is trying to move into. Thankfully there is not too much more to do. Which is a very good thing as my back is still giving me fits. Carting Zack around probably did not help. The Chiropracter called my back a "train wreck" yesterday, which is not a good sign.

Love and hugs to everyone, I don't know what I would do without all of you!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Happy Saturday, Owls!

PinkTink Happy to see you at #1 today. Hope you have a nice day.

iteach Thanks for the Cheerios. I brought bananas to add to it if anybody wants some.

BonO Oh, how I envy you being able to hike to a waterfall. I love waterfalls! I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to go very far before my sciatica would act up. What a bummer!

Carol Another lovely blog today. I remember in 1st or 2nd grade, we studied about the settlers coming west. Well, a friend and I decided one Saturday to draw dozens of pictures of covered wagons and take them door to door to sell them for 10 cents each. We had really good luck doing it so we did it again the next day.....going back to the same houses! LMAO We didn't do quite as well the next day. Gee, wonder why?

    For Mo and Zona:

There once was a girl from Nantucket
Who kept all her cash in a bucket.
    She whipped up a Mocha
    With plastic to choke ya
Then threw up her hands and said, "F**k it!"

Scirish, so glad Zack is better! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the sale of your Mom's house! I recently went through that with my parents so I know how you feel.

Carol, loved the blog today. My kids used to love making a lemonade stand. The neighbors were always so nice to stop and give them money.

  52. Good morning/afternoon and congrats on 1st Tinka!

Good morning/afternoon everyone! I hope you are all having a good Saturday.

Carol what a lovely blog! That 5 year old sounds very wise and I hope she gives a lot of lemonade away!

I can think of no better sound than a child's laughter and no better sight than a child's smile. I have always loved to watch and listen as kids play. I try to imagine what's going on behind those twinkling, little eyes. I have no children of my own. I never thought I would make a very good parent. I do have 4 wonderful nieces and 3 nephews plus a niece that I have never met ( she was adopted after she was born). They are all grown up and living their lives.

My friend has two kids (12 & 7). They never stop surprising me with their wit and imagination. The 12 year old is on a quest for a horse. She thinks she has her parents out smarted. She finds websights with horses for sale. She leaves the site open then calls one of her parents in the room for something else. When the parent asks what she is doing she innocently shows them the site. The parents know what's going on and I know the parents know but I don't tell her. She is having such fun. She emails me or calls me with her latest find. I love it! She just spent a week at a horse camp. She called me last night to tell me about it. A few weeks ago she sent me a horse story she wrote (19 pages) and asked me to rate it out of 5 stars and proof read it for her. It was a very good story.

The 7 year old likes to call and "chat" sometimes. We exchange knock knock jokes. He tells me, in great detail about the latest wrestling match he has watch. When I see him in person he demonstrates some of the wrestling moves. He is so animated and dramatic at the same time. When I tell him I can do those wrestling moves he rolls his eyes and says "Yeah! Right!" then looks at his mother and says "Can she?" . He is such a character.

Sorry for the long post. Can you tell how much I love these kids?

    ReplyDelete
  53. EGADS! I wrote a long post and our over-worked air conditioner tripped the circuit breaker and knocked me off the internet! I won't mention everybody's name again lol, but I will say "HI ALL"

We will be heading North soon to the Casino to see Ringo. I may even check out the slots ;-)

Carol, I haven't traveled to that part of the U.S. much, but it sounds wonderful. We have the Great Lakes surrounding us, so as children we were taken to our beautiful sand dunes.
At home we lived on a corner lot. We sold cool-aid and spent the money buying candies at the dime store. Thanks for the sweet memories.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sandie- What kind of goodies are you making for your book club tonight?

I have regressed a little with my choice of books. My stepdaughter has been here a lot this summer, so now with four kids hanky panky time has declined.

Therefore, I have been reading smut books. I am reading JOhanna Lindsley, I love her romance books.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Good Morning/Afternoon everyone. I love the blog today (as I do everyday). I love listening to children talk and the things they come up with are so funny sometimes. I think I have said this before that I don't remember my children being so funny as my grandchildren..could be I have just a little more time this time around or at least realizing the fun they can be? :)

ITEACH: Good positive thoughts to your husband and his job search. Now I don't want to hurt your feelings BUT I really don't think you should be on the breakfast brigade. SHIRLEY does a tiny bit better job on it!! :) Maybe you could try afternoon snack...

I love Colorado and our mountains and our weather but when I hear so many of you talking about going to the beach, the Shore, Nantucket, etc., that is when I get envious. I would love to have water closer. I guess that is why I always liked visiting our family is Washington. You could spend the day at the beach and see the mountains when you came home..plus I kind of liked the weather too.

LYNND: Good thing it sounds like you have a very big family because it looks like more and more of them are missing every day. I wonder what it is about Arizona that attracts them there and then they meet their demise? Well, I shouldn't say that it is still a "rescue mission", right?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Do you ever just not say anything because you don't want to sound stupid? Well I've been worried about Lynn D's relatives cuz they've been missing....and I'M JUST NOW GETTING IT!!! OMG!!!!! I'm an idiot! (shut up Dianne!) :)~

    ReplyDelete
  57. I guess I wasn't done talking...

ZONA: I am so glad to hear the pool is clean from all that mud and ready for the weekend!!! wink wink AND BTW TINK, how do you like the quote of the day from your baby daughter?

AMICUS: You were very lucky someone found your purse and turned it in..I wasn't so lucky!

MARYMI: There is no doubt in my mind that you will wander over to the slots and then probably win $1000 or something...you always seem to win!! Ms Lucky...

SHIRLEY: I can hear and feel the love you have for these children. I am so glad you get to visit and talk with them. I kid the grandkids like you do and tell them things I can do that I can't..once I told them I was the gorilla diver at a local fun restaurant..I have a feeling they didn't believe me. Enjoy them..I know how they can bring a smile regardless of our daily life sometimes...they sure make me "not sweat the small stuff" when I talk to them.

TINA: I think (hope) it will be good to get the tooth fixed before vacation. Dang, bad timing!!!

BONO: I bought three of those CD's at Target the other day since they were such a good price. I wanted to give one to my two friends that I had gone to the play with and now we will see the movie.

OK....sorry for the long posts. I am just chatty today. I am off to my grandsons's three year old birthday party and there is going to be a clown there (no not me)!!
    Have a great afternoon everyone..

    ReplyDelete
  58. Uh or should I say duh Tina!! What did you think when MEK says she is eating LYNN's relatives? Your tooth must be slowing you down..good excuse because I certainly couldn't use age with you--as you so often remeind me!

  62. I was up at six full of 'something and vinegar'. What is that expression anyhow? By 9:30 I was tired, went to bed and woke at 11:00. Now I am not sure what day it. Anyway the nest is now full.

    Good Morning to -

Mek - Hope you get lots of things done today. Congrats on getting 50.

Whabbear - It's the naughty mat for you today. Now you are 50 you have to be a big boy.

SacBarb - I know how hard it is to find new dragons. There are just so many out there. I think I have exhausted the supply for my niece.

Amicus - I don't know where I got the idea you work a half day on Saturday. Our vet hospitals are 24 hour ones. You and I have talked about this before. We are very lucky here because there are many hospitals.

Bebbie - Hi Sweetie. Have fun with your "little sister".

Bonnie - Thanks for writing out the words to "Slipping Through My Fingers". I loved them. I have to buy that one. It almost makes me cry.

Scirish - I am so happy Zack is feeling better. Thank you for giving me credit for pushing you. That makes my day.

Just-Lin - I can't give preferential treatment so it's on the naughty mat for you to join Bear. Now you two behave on that mat. No playing "Doctor".
We used to have the cutest little brown squirrels that were everywhere. Then they were taken over by the big grey ones. Don't tell me there are black ones too. If they take over won't they look a bit like rats? Oh how I miss the tiny little brown squirrels.

Sandie - I love seeing your pretty face on your default picture too.
My kids used to make a lot of money selling lemonade and juice and even water, (they would change the price of the plastic cups plus a penny). The juice was a few pennies more than it cost me to buy it. I wouldn't let them 'gouge' the runners because they were so thirsty they would have paid anything for a drink. Runners didn't bring bottles of water when they ran like they do toay. Then they had lemonade and Koolade which was cheap to make. We always had the marathon races go by our house because we were on the scenic route that went around by the water. My kids sold hundreds of cups some Sundays. The only one who didn't make money but actually lost money was me because all the cartons of juice and plastic cups came from my kitchen. They sure had fun though.

Tina - You just missed getting on the naughty mat. You must have known I was lurking. I am glad you 'upped' your root canal date. That is so much better.

Shirley - Your post wasn't long. I enjoyed it. Wait until you see the length of this one.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Mary - I missed you. I hope you make lots of money. Do you share your winnings with the Night Owls? We have the "Get the Night Owls to Hawaii for our 500 day party" fund. It's legit.

Tina I forgot to congratulate you on the 69. Hope it took your mind off of the bad tooth.

  68. Carol
I wish to lodge a complaint. At 12:15 Wabbear used the F word. I think he should be spanked 50 times with a wet noodle and then placed on my (erase) um I mean the naughty mat.

    ReplyDelete
  69. There once was a crackwhore from Nantucket.....
Who loved to march, laugh, and have fun!!!
And for those who don't get it.....
    You can just suck it!!!

  70. Jodi - Nice to see you. You are quite a poet. I am going out the door to my daughter's. It's a beautiful day here. I haven't heard from you much lately. How are you doing?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Zona - You are up. How are YOU doing? (as Joey would say on Friends).

    ReplyDelete
  72. TINKA: Someone is at the door..hope it isn't the monkey lady..brb...

    ReplyDelete
  73. TINKA: It IS the monkey lady...I need to hide..;)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Go check. I have a few minutes before I have to leave. I will wait for you.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I have lost control of my Little Brown Owl. He has become a marching fool. My dad would never let me say that word so I will change that-- has become a marching foolish owl.
Is it the monkey lady? Give her a hug from me. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  76. Former White House Press Secretary and newsman Tony Snow passed away...sad.

    ReplyDelete
  77. TINKA: I think she's leaving. She was ringing the doorbell and calling for Mr Z. Nikki wanted me to open the door..but I didn't. Whew.

Have fun at your daughter's house!! Be good and have fun!

  83. MEK: I have a whole contingent of LYNND's relatives in my fridge so they won't melt.

LYNND: I want to assure you, your relatives are being well taken care of...and they are verrry cool. ;)

    TINA: Goof!!

DIANNE: I just looked outside, the water is crystal clear!

    J/LIN: LOL!!!

SCIRISH: I'm so glad that Zack is doing better.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Zona - You stepped on me. Is that any way to treat your mommy? I can't wait any longer to say Hi to VIG. She must have written on myspace and flown out the door before I wrote her to meet us here. Say "Hi" to her if I miss her.
I know I will have fun with my grandkids. They are waiting. Must run. I love you Babe.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Zona How considerate of you to give Lynn D's relatives an air conditioned room! LOL

It's very sad about Tony Snow. He was only 53.

  93. I got a new camera today, my camera was 4yrs old and I wanted a smaller sleeker look, so I went with the Nikkon Coolpix....

I do like it, however I did not realize in the store that it does not take reg batteries, it has one of the lithum(sp) rechargeable batteries. Not sure if I am loving this idea.

Does anyone know, how long the battery lasts once charged?

It just seems, that one never knows when a camera is needed, so if spur of the moment I need to take a picture and the battery is not charged that will be a bummer...

Plus, while away, I will now have to carry the battery charger for the camera...this will be among the other chargers I carry, cell phone, bluetooth etc....

I am wondering If I made a mistake...

    ReplyDelete
  94. I am saddened about Tony Snow as well. He was a great speaker!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Dreama,
If I put everyone on the naughty mat that said the F (fuck) word, then my guess would be everyone would be on the naughty mat instead of being in the nest!

Whabby does have a way with words, on many levels I might add!

  98. Announcement!!!
Please everyone, no apologies necessary for long posts, I enjoy every comment here at the nest, and if it is long, to me that just means one is passionate about what they are writing about! So please make them as long as you want and as often as you want.

    I know I do! :O)

  99. CAROL...tips were good today! I was waitress, barista and bartender again. I didn't have but one customer in the bar, but I served a few lunches. Made a whopping...are you sitting down?...$43!!!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT! And I got called in early and was starving, so since I was alone in the place I played in the kitchen! I made myself a major breakfast burrito!!!!! And since it was a Moweenie creation...no key to ring it up on!!!! $43 bucks AND free food! Woo Hoo!

Did you read about my tips on Tuesday (i think it was tuesday!)? I netted 1 cent! I was hungry and ordered a burger. The burger cost $4.53 and I had $4.54 in the tip jar!!! At least I didn't have to dig any change outta the bottom of my purse!

Oh get this...next Sunday I am working in the day. There is a charity event taking place. I found out last night we all have to work for free, as the owner donates our salaries to the charity. And we are supposed to donate our tips, too. WTF? I am not a cold hearted person, but I don't like to be told where I donate my money. And I don't work there for the fun of it or for play money! I work because I need to. I am glad I worked extra today and a couple of hours last night so I wont get behind.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Shirley:
I loved your post, and I love that you love these children, even tho they are your friends children, it seems you love them dearly. When one does not have children, the love has to go somewhere, so it gathers up and is given to others children.

Just like my nephews, I love them as they were my own, as my love needs to gather as well!

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Mo:
Wow, that is fantastic $43.00 is pretty good for the hell hole...
    Kudos!

Sorry about the 1cents tho, hey at least you kinda netted out :O)

    Call in sick next week!

  102. CPGEM: What model is your new camera??

Ours uses lithium batteries and they seem to last an awful long time.

    ReplyDelete
  103. arrrrggggg..."awfully long time..." I swear I took English is school...honest I did...;)

HI MO!! Congrats on the tips...!

    ReplyDelete
  104. ZONA...HI!!!!! I believe you "took" English in school...then you "gave" it away!
    bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Zona:
    Nikon Coolpix S210....

The battery last a long time without recharging?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Zona:
Do you keep the battery in when the camera is not in use?

    ReplyDelete
  107. CPGEM: Yes, we leave the battery in the camera. It only takes about 2 hours to fully charge it when it red lines. We don't have a Nikon, but I bet they are all pretty much the same.

I looked up your camera on line and it will take 220 shots before needing to recharge.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Zona:
Thank you so much for doing that for me.

I feel alot better about the purchase now. 220 shots are quite alot, so I should not have problem...

When you say red lines, that means when the battery is going low, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Waving a wing at CAROL!!!

Just wanted to say goodnight....have to open again tomorrow.

ZONA - Are you out of the pool already?!!?

    ReplyDelete
  110. MO - I'm not sure that I would like my boss telling me where to donate my money either. Congrats on your huge tips today, though!!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. CPGEM: Yes, when the battery icon starts to flash in the viewfinder because it needs to be recharged..that's what I mean by 'red line'. Sometimes, if we need it quicker, we just half charge it too..just so we can use it. :)

JODI: Haven't been in yet...we have a motto.."wait until dark"..;)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Zona:
Thanks ever so much, I am now thrilled with my new camera, I set it all up and it is now ready to use!

You made me feel so much better!!!!

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  113. MO: I think you're right!!! LOL!

CPGEM: YAY!! Now remember, post some more pics for us!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Carol and Shirley: Like you, I only have neices. No issue from my loins. But my nieces don't seem to hold that against me.

The younger one, 8 years old, was puzzled when Huz told her he was getting married last weekend!

OK, waiting for guests to arrive for my LAST 50th birthday party. Seems like this has been going on quite a while! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  115. OREGON KILLED GRASS!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!

I think its too late to call you Jodi- just got home and got the message... talk to you tomorrow.

It was a little stormy here, you must have gotten the brunt of it during the night.

Bear- how many 50ith's can one have?? Is there a limit? No, so party like there is no tomorrow!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Carol I would just like to apologize for my apology regarding my long post. It will not happen again. Sorry. Lol!!

LynnD~ As soon as I left the computer, I grabbed something to snack on and went to my room to watch the Nascar race I had taped.....I grabbed a ginormous bag of peanut M&M's~ yikes!!!! sorry~ :)~

Jodi and Zona~ you make me smile~ Fuck...you really do~

    Tinka~ Thanks for being you~

Mo~ Don't spend that penny all in one place~ I can't stand it when I don't have a say in where my money goes! I always make sure, before I give, that the money isn't going for abortions! That would just piss me off to be told that I was working for free! Call in sick! It'll be true.....you'd be sick if you worked! :D

Bear~ I think the reason you celebrate so much at 50 is cuz you prolly won't remember half of the celebrations cuz you're so old! :)~

    cpgem8~ I'm trying really hard to make this a long one~ :)~ (you crackwhore~)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Oh Fuck, Zona~ Turn a light on before you start...and make SURE Mr Z is outside....wouldn't want anything cut off before 11pm tonight when it's needed~ :)~

  125. Hi Everyone!!!

This is just a quick fly-by to say hello and let you know that Miss Laurie and I are still around!

I realized I hadn't commented or even read the blogs since July 2!!

It has been very busy for me. Like all of you. Summer is here!

I had a wonderful visit with my daughter and grandbaby from Sacramento over the 4th. "Nonna" totally spoiled Emma!

Laurie had her MRI (FINALLY) on Monday the 7th, and we have an appt with the cardiologist to discuss surgery dates on July 29th.

Unfortunately, though, Miss Laurie is still having some problems with her stomach. Her PCP thinks it is stress related, so we have put her on Ativan, once a day for anti-anxiety. Please pray this helps!!!

I wish I could comment on the blogs, and comments, but I must be honest and let you all know that I haven't had a minute to actually read any of them!

I will try tonight to catch up and be able to actually comment on what's been happening on the Nest tomorrow!

Have a wonderful evening, and a fantastic Sunday!!!

    Peace and Love to all,
    Donna Jean and Laurie Elizabeth

PS to Mo: LOVE the JBJ photo!!! Yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hey hooters,

I am making a quick fly by. Loved the topics yesterday and today! I need to catch up on comments.

Like our guv sez: I'LL BE BACK (probably tomorrow)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Wow! so much has happened since I left this afternoon. I just read all the comments since my last one and now I think I must be starting with the short term memory loss because I can't remember what I read. Oh Lord it's too soon.

We had a beautiful BBQ at my daughter's. My son is a fantastic chef. Of course that is his profession but I swear he makes steaks better than anyone else. Not that I have tried many, however, because I am not a big meat eater but it sure tasted good. The whole meal was wonderful. They sent me home with tomorrow's dinner and you will never guess what else? My grandson has turned 13 and has just moved into a larger bedroom. He didn't want his stuffed animals sold at a garage sale. He wanted Nana to have them. I opened up the three large garbage bags when I got home and there must be more than 500 beanie babies. I think I have died and gone to beanie baby heaven. What fun I will have tomorrow finding a place for them. I am going to post this and read the comments again.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Hey gang flying through quickly!

The grandkids are here and the tent is set up. Looks like grandpa is going to attempt sleeping outside with them! LOL I hope he can remember to unzip the tent before he has to make his 3rd trip to the bathroom! LMAO Oy this could be very bad.

The dogs seem to be in 7th heaven tho. They have not been around many small children and have discovered that they drop food!! They are being so good and trying to look oh so innocent, but you can see it in their faces...come on kid drop that ice cream cone.

Now I have an all points bulletin it seems my relatives have gone missing in several states! WTF? Is there an M&M railroad going on???

Mo I don't know about your state but here in Washington what your boss is doing would be illegal. He would have to have your consent before he donated your wages. What an Asshole!!!

I know I know off to the naughty mat for me!

Jodi Wahoo! Give that nephew a big (((Hug)))! Oregon KILL GRASS!

I will see you all in the morning!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mo I agree with LynnD. If you volunteer to donate your time, that's one thing, but your boss cannot take your earned pay from you and give it away. Totally, illegal!

Jodi How wonderful for Oregon, the marching band and your nephew and family! OREGON KILL GRASS!!!!

  130. This time I jotted down a few notes.

Dianne - I do not believe for one minute that those words were said by my daughter Zona. I feel someone is trying to defile her name. I would like to formally announce on the blog that I have started an F.B.I. investigation into the matter. Do not be surprised if an official shows up at a few doors. Be afraid, be truly afraid. I have to fight for her reputation. I am a mother lion.

Shirley - I agree. A playdate with my granddaughter and Dianne's would be great. Unfortunately with the price of fuel it might be quite expensive to send my private jet. We'll wait a while and see if the prices drop soon.

Jodi - I am sad I missed your phone call. Yes, it probably was during my nap time ( 12 - 2). My phones are turned off at that time. I will be home tomorrow. Hint, Hint.

Goldie - Thank you for answering my question about something and vinegar. I thought it might be 'spit' but that didn't sound right.

Carol - I was going to answer your question about batteries but I see my daughter did it first. She is very gifted as you can see.
I have lithium batteries in my Sony. At our camera club they suggest when you are traveling to always carry a second charged battery just in case the first one dies just as you are about to take "the perfect picture".
Thanks for the announcement, in bold no less. I am not worrying about seeing my little brown owl anymore. I have freed him.

Maureen - Your boss makes me furious. He has no right to ask anyone to work for free just so he can brag about how much money his establishment donated to charity. He has no idea the financial situation of any of his employees. Most of them probably need every cent they make. Is there no recourse you can take on that?
    There should be.

Whabbear - My birthday was one of the big ones too. My celebrations lasted from early April until last week when VIG took me for High Tea. Make it last as long as you can. You deserve it my dear.

Zonababy - I am waiting to hear if you have all your ten fingers.

Tina - I am happy to see you posting. Either your mouth isn't sore or you are all drugged up. Either way sounds good to me.
I am going for the record for the longest post tonight.

Hi Donna Jean - I loved the e-mail you sent today about the fact that the kids starting college this fall were born in 1986. Wasn't that just a couple of years ago?
    ((((Hugs))))) to Laurie.

East Bay J - Have fun where-ever you were heading.

VIG - Are you still playing at the beach? Check in please.

I am off to play with my new beanie babies. I am so excited. Good Night and God Bless. Love, Tinka

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hi Lynn and Just-Lin - You flew in as I was typing. Have a great night.
