today is a perfect day to get reacquainted, as some
new owls have arrived in the nest, and a good ole
"how do you do" is in order

i also think this Sunday Music Video is perfect
as it allows us to remember the lite and breezy
days, and will start our day off with a smile

so as Deborah Kerr sings to us, we will all
be "getting to know you"

and a big ole thank you goes out to Hartldo
for todays blog, as it was her idea!

Enjoy! :O)

  2. Getting ready to go get a shower and start day two of getting rid of the stuff Mom doesn't want to move.

Don't know why I'm going to take a shower first...I must have sweated off at least 5lbs yesterday....My sweat was sweating!!!

  3. HARTLDO...congrats on getting your first blog up for us!

~I am a fat old owl that nests in Northeast Ohio.
~I like 70 - 80's rock music, but some newer stuff can hold my attention a bit.
~I work too many hours a week, but am thankful I have the jobs to go to.
~I have been hooting in the nest since the beginning and I love y'all very much. I am an honorary crackwhore and, like CAROL, I am honored with such a distinguished title!
~I think the four major food groups should be Chocolate, Pork, Ice Cream and Coffee! Ooops, make that five groups and add pizza!
~I think JBJ is one sexy man and one I wish I could Make a Memory with!!!
~If I won the lottery I would quit my jobs, remodel my house, pay off my bills, pay off my friends and family's bills and then retire to Venice, IT. There, I would hire my own chauferred gondola, design my house around Murano Glass decor and indulge in my 4 favorite food groups!!!!
~I think exercise, sleep and healthy eating are overrated!!!! (just kidding on this one!)

I think that sums me up pretty well!! Now tell us about YOU!

  9. Good Morning

Scirish, I read yesterday you are cleaning out your Moms house, Oh I know how that is TRUST ME 3 years ago my mom sold her (the family home) after living there for 30 years. Saved every thing. I was in tears reading the letters I wrote her, my school work. WOW, I cant believe she kept everything. She also rented a dumpster. She threw out a lot, had a garage sale, and now I have some stuff in my basement. Good Luck!!!

Good Morning Maureen, iteach, and Tinka.

    About me hmmm

I'm also a fat ole Owl that lives in Michigan 25 miles north of Detroit.

    I am married for 21 1/2 years

I am 42 years young. (in my mind I still feel 18 lol)

    My birthday is Dec. 6

I use to like to clean, but since I hit 40, I would rather have FUN & spend time with my family.

I take care of my mother who has COPD. She is on oxygen 24/7. But I LOVE having her with us.

I love 70's and 80's music, I have a collection of 45's and 33's. Remember when you use to run to K-mart of Harmony house for the new single???!!!!

Ok thats it I have to get the old cleaning rag out and get some more cleaning done.

My Mom also has COPD (no oxygen yet, knock on wood) among other aliments, which is why she is moving next door to me. The house is much smaller and I'm close if she needs me.

  14. Wow, interesting Bio's. I learned some new things from friend owls this morning. I am afraid I don't have much of interest to tell.

I live on an island farther west than any other owl except for VIG who is my friend and neighbour. My family of three beautiful owls has grown and flown from the nest. One has provided me with two fantastic little owls, one male and one female; one has a baby owl as cute as my avatar, the only owl I know that loves to wear pink like her nana; the last one is waiting for a gorgeous owl to sweep her off her feet. I live in a rather large nest surrounded by trees that make me happy. I have three 'fur babies' that are with me 24/7. I am an elderly owl who is retired and enjoys the slower pace of retirement. I look after my mother who lives in a nest about ten minutes from mine. I love visiting the Night Owl's nest everyday. I consider that my second home. I love the owls who go there each day to talk, cry, laugh, pray and sometimes bicker like families do. It's a great place.

    ReplyDelete
  15. All this talk about cleaning has made me feel like that is what I am going to do today. VIG and I have been obsessed with season one and two of Grey's Anatomy. We are in a competition to see who can finish first. Since this is the B.C. long weekend we have had lots of time for this race. I love the show now. I only wish I had started watching it 4 years ago.

    Congrats on first Scirish!

    I am 45.5 years old.

    I have 3 offspring ages 23, 20 & 18.

I work as an administrative Assistant and I do mystery shopping on the side.

I have been with my husband 24 years.

I like to watch movies and go out to eat.

I love my two pomeranians and my family so much.

My mom and my sister lives nearby. My dad and two brothers live in Tennessee. One of my brothers in Tennessee is in a nursing home along with my stepmother. He has never been well, all of his life. My other brother lives in North Carolina.

I have a stepsister and stepbrother too.

I like about any type of music(including some rap).

I deleted that last comment because I made a mistake. I forgot to include my other brother and my stepmom. Sorry folks.

  20. Ok, Now for the bio....I 50...wait, no 51...Where did that year go? I live in New England and would love to move to CA near the ocean, although, I would miss the fall here.

I love books, jewelry designing, swimming, flea markets (and tag sales), travel and antiques.

I am fairly outgoing, but can be quiet when first meeting new people. I hate rudeness and injustice and can be rather outspoken when confronted with it.

I love all kinds of music and have way too many favorites to list.

And there you have it...a Scirish in a nut shell....(emphasis on the "nut")

    ReplyDelete
  21. Good Morning Bebbi - I learned new things about you today.
Would you explain mystery shopping to me please?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bebbi!! I used to do mystery shopping too...What fun that was!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, I have one today. I go into a store and I act like a customer, I make notes about things in my head (and sometimes on paper in the restroom). Then I go home and put it in the computer.

It is fun, I like doing it as a part time thing, I can pick and choose the ones I want to do. I get paid to shop and reimbursed for what I spend (to a certain limit).

    ReplyDelete
  24. Important note: You should NEVER have to pay to be a mystery shopper. Many scams are out there but the real companies, you just sign up and they accept you. It doesn't pay a ton of money but you get free things and it makes a little extra.

Cool Scirish! It is fun, isn't it. Especially when it is someplace you shop anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Scirish, do you have any children?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bebbi - Thanks for explaining mystery shopping. I am still
'in the dark'. What is the benefit to the companies for doing this?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good morning gals. I am making a quick fly-by.Tonight We are going to see the Jersey Boys. It will be the 1st time for Mr Mary. I love that show!
For those that don't know by now ,I live in the "middle of the mitten" (Mich.). I was raised a preacher's kid. I am one of 7 children. I worked in the Auto industry for almost 30yrs. Mr Mary & I are retired and have a Karaoke business. I am silly, fun loving & a bit off my rocker(in a nice way lol). I cherish my friendships here. Welcome newcomers to our humble abode!!

    I'm off to the Casino
    BTW no big jackpots yet!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am like you Scirish, I am kind of quiet around new people (and a little socially awkward!) but once I get to know people I am not as quiet and way more outgoing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Bebbi...It IS fun! Although, I turned one down ONE time and never heard from the company again...and you are SO right about the scams!!! I called an ad in the jobs section of our local paper and they wanted me to pay...I got rather vocal about the sleazyness of that!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tink, They get to see how their employees are interacting with customers. Also, if they have special promotions they find out if they are being promoted or not.

I used to work retail as a book store manager for 15 years. I used to be mystery shopped. Now I get to be on the other end of the spectrum and I love it. In some weird way, it balances my life out, if you know what I mean!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bebbi...No children, but two fur-babies..

Tink...It is a way for the stores to rate their customer service.

  32. DONNA JO~ What a wonderful idea for a Blog this fine Sunday!

I for one am going to copy/paste/save this one for future reference!!! I do use my trusty sharp #2 pencil from time to time, but while the body is willing, sometimes the mind is weak, and forgets!

First off, I disagree with MAUREEN's description of herself, except for the part of the Country she lives! She is one of the sweetest, kindest, most caring Owls I have met, and this goes WAYYYY Back to last summer when I first started Blogging (on the other Blog). She sometimes gives too much of herself to others, and needs to take a little more time just for herself! If I had one wish to give to her, it would be that she finally would be able "To Make a Memory" with our MUTUAL love, JBJ!!! She deserves it!

But, as usual I digress from the subject at hand, which I tend to do alot!

OK, Here goes. This is me in a nutshell, well a LARGE nutshell!!!

    1. My name is Donna Jean, and I proudly say I am 58 yrs young! And although I happily color my hair, I earned every one of those nasty gray ones!

    2. I live in one of the most beautiful parts of Northern California, Santa Rosa, Sonoma County. Wine Country, Baby! Also known for being the home of Luther Burbank, who invented the Santa Rosa Plum, numerous movies have been filmed in our area, most notably "The Birds", parts of "PollyAnna", "American Graffitti", "Peggy Sue Got Married", and "Phenomenon". Karen Valentine, (remember her)? grew up in Sebastopol, only about 5 miles from my home.

    3. I am a widow, and have been since 1984, when the love of my life, Larry, was killed by a drunk driver. I never re-married. I have raised three daughters, ages 35, 30and 28. I mostly speak of my youngest, Miss Laurie Elizabeth, who is a beautiful young lady who just happens to have Down Syndrome, and numerous health issues going on right now.

    4. I am blessed with three
grandchildren, Jacob 10, Janee 8, and the baby, Emma 21 months. I do go on and on about these precious angels way more than I should!

    5. I am now retired, (forced retirement). I had major back surgery two yrs ago and my place of employment of 15 yrs chose not to keep my position. Oh well, their loss, my gain!!! My life now consists of being a full-time care-giver to my Laurie, and being able to spend time with the grandkids!

    6. I am not as crafty as so many of our Owls, but I love to read, watch TV and Movies, listen to all kinds of music, go to Concerts and the Theatre, take walks, travel, Blog on the Nest, and be with the family. Oh, I also really love to cook, and am quite good at it when I put my mind to it! I like to take recipes apart and add my own "stamp" to them! Sometimes it turns out, and sometimes I go back and use the original recipe!

I posted a picture of Miss Laurie, myself, and the Fabulous Wynonna Judd as my avatar today. We were so lucky to have met her a few years back when she was here in Santa Rosa.

I am so anxious now to read about everyone else! Especially since I do not have MySpace, this will be such fun to find out all about everyone! Now, be HONEST everyone! Silly if you want, but I truly want to know as much about each of you as I can!

Peace and Love to all, Donna Jean

I have three breed challenged dogs that I love.

I am waving at my friend Ang if she is out there lurking! Ang if you can actually see me waving at you you need to lay off of the pain pills! Hehehe (((Hugs)))

Wishing all of my owl friends a Happy Friendship Day!

Even tho I did not know it existed and think Hallmark is behind this diabolical plan to get us to buy more greeting cards. Ha but I have out smarted them I sent you all on line greetings instead! Little do they know I have a hard time even remembering my families birthdays so their subliminal messages do not work on me!

Is it time for a mixed drink yet?

    Have a wonderful Sunday EVERYONE!!!!

  48. On Friendship Day, this seems like a good day to be on the blog and getting to know each other even better.

Great blog and video, Carol. Awesome idea, Hartldo! Like Tinka, I am also learning lots of new things about the Owls.

iteach...thanks for the comment about Friendship Day. I never knew that the first Sunday in August is Friendship Day. Really good to know!

Now who am I? I often wonder, but this is what I know for sure:

I am 49 (well, almost) and live on a gorgeous, large island on the west coast of Canada.

I have never married...not sure why..but it just hasn't happened and I have no children. I have many children in my life though and have the most wonderful, beautiful, smart and talented nieces and nephews in the world.

I am a teacher and work with students who are deafblind. The strength and resilience of the students I support who overcome repeated adversity humbles me daily.

My mom passed away in 1984, my dad in 2003 and my 52 year old brother five days before this past Christmas. Not to be negative, but can I just say I hate cancer!

I love the mountains, old growth trees, ocean, flowers, sea life of the west coast! It takes my breath away!

I love books, music, movies and am currently enjoying a Grey's Anatomy long weekend marathon and race with my great friend and neighbour Miss Tink! Come on, Zona, catch up!

Glad to get to know you all even better. Happy Friendship Day, Owls!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Good morning owls!!! (Actually it is close to afternoon now...and I have touch up painting to do in my house, so I can't stay long). I also want to thank everyone for the friendship day greetings. I am not sure I will have time to get any out or not (as I think of each and every one of you as my friends)!

    OK....Here goes my bio:

-I am also a fat owl who will be hitting the big 4-0 on the same day that the TV's change to digital (February 17th)

-I was married just shy of 17 years when my husband decided to leave me for (who at the time) was my best friend and had a child together (before we were divorced) and they have another on the way.

-I have a beautiful pre-teen daughter, Katie who is the joy of my life. (She will be 13 in October). To the outside world, she seems shy and quiet, but once she feels comfortable with you...look out!!! LOL!!!!

-I have 3 "fur-babies". A cat, Elvis (a name he came with when we got him when he was 1). My ex was an Elvis fan so wanted to keep the name. I also have to pugs, Charlie and Cleo. Charlie is like a naughty Jack Russel Terrier (high energy and won't listen...not at all "pug-like")! Cleo I just got last year as her owner couldn't keep her because his new wife didn't like her! : ( She is VERY pug like and sweet!

-I have been an aide for going on 8 years and now the technology assistant for going on 5 years. Iteach brought me here to the nest last spring to help me feel a little less lonely (as I do when Katie visits her dad). I am very grateful for that as I truly love the friendship here!

-I love most kinds of music (but not country....I apologize to all my country music fans...not meant as a slam.

-I love cloudy days and rain. I hate sunny days and heat! (They make me cranky and give me headaches)! I should live in Oregon or Washington State!

-I love romantic movies and books (as long as they have happy endings as life often provides few).

-I love to draw and write.

-I just graduated with my Bachelor's Degree, but still have another year of classes before getting my teaching certificate (as I am doing it all on line and it works a bit different).

OK...that's all I can think of. (Sorry for all the "I"s and the length of this!

Have a happy friendship day everyone! You are all my friends!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lynn, I'm so glad your friend Angel is doing better!

VIG, I wished I lived closer to you.

Jennifer, you forgot to tell everyone that your favorite color is yellow. :)

  51. First off let me thank you all for the beautiful friendship comments on MS that I woke up to.
I am not even sure where to begin with my bio. It is a long one!
My Dad was in the Air Force so we lived in many places. My latter teen years were spent in Germany. We lived in a town called Steinwenden 4 km from Ramstein Base.
I met and fell in love with an MP. We were together for 10 years. I have no children of my own but in my 20's I worked in Day Care, school aide teacher & summer day camp counselor.
My children have always walked on 4 paws.
I spent several years as a caterer and flipping houses. I did the interior decorating and color scemes.
I now work as a collections agent. I track down stolen vehicles. I am also involved with the repo end of it. Sometimes I have really wild experiences such as recovering a vehicle and finding a stash of chemically laced pot in it and fake IDs belonging to ex cons. One of my more funnier repos was dealing with a transvestite. The records showed the car was sold to a woman (Sheila) with long hair and heavy make up. Well the drivers license came in and the woman was a man (John). When I recovered the vehicle it was Sheila driving it. :0)
Thanks Donna for coming up with this blog. I have enjoyed reading everyones comments and I will come back tonight and read the others!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Great idea Hartldo for the blog and by the way Robax Platinum is a muscle relaxer I use for my back but it also works for period cramps. Sorry my answer to your question is a few days late.

    Congrats on 1st Scirish!

Dianne you and your family are still in my thoughts. (((HUGS)))

OK, I am a single, severely obese, unemployed, peri menopausal, almost 46 year old with no children or significant other, who has blood pressure, colesterol, thyroid and eye problems. I have a fear of all animals, although my list of fears seems to be growing as it keeps me housebound most of the time.
Like a lot of other people I like music more from the past than the present stuff. I enjoy classical music as well. I don't read much because my eyes are blurry. I like Star Trek, "CSI" and "Law and Order" type shows. My favorite color is blue. I write poetry but it is dark. Each piece reflects my mood at the time.

I have an older brother and sister and a younger sister. My mother is still alive but my Dad passed away Jan. 2,2000. Yesterday marked 9 years to the day that he had his stroke. I remembered everything as if it were nine years ago.

I have been blogging for about a year. I try to answer everyone but it isn't always possible and I'm sure I usually miss someone.

That's about it. I see from the blogs I caught up on today that a lot of owls are not here. I send (((((HUGS))))) to you all. I've missed the early morning chit chat.

  59. I am also a fat (but cute) owl..I am also know as "cpgem8" "crackwhore" "Carol"....

I am 46 soon to be 47 (very soon), I own my own business and am happy to say it is doing well! (thank goodness)

I have never been married, and like VIG really have no idea why, as I always wanted to be. I was not blessed with children, however
    I have three amazing nephews
    who I cherish daily.

I now live back home with my parents, and I have become their care taker, I take this job from my heart, and am glad I am able to
be with them, as they need me so
(even tho they drive be crazy daily)

I have a very large extended family, which takes up a lot of my time.

    I love:
    To read
    The Sun
    To Blog
    To Eat
    To Work
    The Nest
    Musicals

I am pretty much happy with who I turned out to be as a adult, I have some issues which I am working on and whether I can change them or not, at least it gives me something to work on...

So there you have it, me in a couple of paragraphs..

    :O)

I did not realize this was a true confessions bio!

I am a chubby checker too! I believe exercise is the answer but I just can't formulate the right question to convince myself to exercise.

Oh and I am 46 and have gray hair that I dye because while I like my own granchildren to call me grandma I really resent it when strangers kids do! LMAO But that is true!

Hope everyone is having a good day. I think I hear a nap calling me but I am trying to decide if I would like a bloody mary first....hmmmm decisions, decisions.

  64. Wow, I'm learning so much about you all that isn't on your myspace! Thanks Carol for the blog and thanks Donna for the idea! Great one!

You guys are cracking me up!

I'm 49 and 6 days (ha!) and can't believe I'll be 50 next year. I've been married to a handsome gentleman, who is so good to me that it's embarrassing, for 21 years. I'm a chubba-whubba (I don't like to say fat because I hurt my own feelings) owl.

We have three wonderful, beautiful children, 19, 17 and 12. We also have an old maltese and two standard poodles who I swear are really people.

We moved to GA 3 years ago after living my whole life in MD. It was a tough move but I love it here now.

I have one older sister who lives in MD. My parents recently moved here and I love helping them and spending time with them. I am rewarded every day with their love and smiles.

I worked for the govt for 17 years (part time after my oldest was born) but quit after returning from Korea, where we lived for 3 years and where we adopted our daughter. I now volunteer in the kids' schools and am involved in the PTA and lacrosse team.

I love reading, music, and being with family and friends. I sell jewelry (doing home shows) but I'm getting kind of bored with it. And, I love chocolate!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Back..i should have mentioned that the two brothers in Tennessee our twins. They were born prematurely (although they are 30 now and one is fine - see Brian on my myspace).

I love reading everyone's bio. It is very interesting. It really strikes me how much we all have in common considering that Ross Blog brought us here. Amazing how things work out.

My mystery shop went well. (shhhhhhh..it's a mystery!..hehe). :) I have not been feeling great today, so I think I will go lie down for a while.

  77. Oh My! ( kind of feel like like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz) getting to know and understand each of you!

My #2 (pencil) was busily making notes, and I will comment later to each and every Owl!

I am absolutely LOVING reading about everyone's life, their ups, downs, and in-betweens! It is only 4:20 pm in California, so I am sure more Owls will join in later with their bios, so I will wait to comment on any.

I have to tell you about a fantastic thing that happened to me this morning.

After posting, I took a shower and got ready for the day. I really was wanting to just go back to bed, but I didn't.

I went to Trader Joes, (one of my favorite stores). Everything I wanted and needed was there! That doesn't always happen, they do run low on certain products. FIRST good thing.

Then, I drove past the gas station, which had lowered their prices to $4.05 a gallon, (if you bought the car wash), and since my baby Jeep was in need of a bath, that caught my eye! SECOND good thing.

Then I went to Starbucks, waited in a VERY long line, and when I was at the pick up window I was told that the lady in front of me ALREADY had paid for my drink!!! THIRD good thing!

Wow! I sometimes pay for the toll across the Golden Gate Bridge for the car behind me, but NEVER has someone paid for my Iced Venti Latte, 2 Add Shots, Extra Ice!

So, I thought, "Well, Pay It Forward" So, I asked the counter girl how much the car behind me charged, and it was $21.50!!! I said I couldn't do that, but, put $5.00 towards their cost.

I have been feeling so good ALL DAY!!, and I didn't even know it was Friendship Day!

KARMA. Believe in it or not. But I do. Some day when you least expect it, something nice will go your way.

Just a thought for the day!

Now, back to reading all about my wonderful friends on the Owls Nest!!!

THANK YOU CAROL FOR MAKNG THIS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO COME TO!

PS: Love and Hugs and still sending positive healing thoughts to Dianne and Tammy!!!
    Donna Jean

  78. Happy Friendship Sunday Owls.

I just got back from a Sorority Brunch to hear one of my favorite show tunes and read a fun blog. I love reading about all of you and learning things I didn't know about you.

I am skinny person, borrowing a fat person's body. I have had it for so long now, I may actually own it.:( I started Jenny Craig in May of 2007 because my youngest son announced he was getting married in Feb. 2008 and I didn't want to be the FAT Mom in the pics. I lost 40 lbs by Dec. when I had to start taking Prednisone, and I have gained 20 lbs back. arrrggghhh. I have begged the doc to take me off the Prednisone, but it is not to be yet.

I have a very large Italian family, most of whom live in New York. Both my parents lived to 91, and if I knew early on that longevity runs in my family, I would have taken much better care of myself.

I am a 65 year old widow with 3 children (all boys) 46,36,33 and yes, they all have the same parents. I can't explain the 10 year gap between the first two.

I live in Sacramento and worked for the State of California for 36 years, 16 of which was in the Governor's Office as a Human Resources Manager. I retired in 2001 and have never regretted it.

I usher for three local theaters because I love live theater. This is my 39th year at the summer musical theater.

I am addicted to All My Children and Days of Our Lives, thanks to my Mother. We used to have long conversations about the cast like they were our best friends. I miss those conversations.

I also lust after JBJ, which if he knew, I am sure he would laugh his a$$ off.

I doubt there is anything in the above that is new to any of you, but there it is anyway.

P.S. To Hart & Sandie: I was also a Cub Scout Den leader and I also had a group of Webelos for two years. And my Hubby also did the camping thing with the boys, as I am NOT a camper.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Wow, I didn't realize that was so long.....sorry.

    Lovey, shhhh. How's the head?

Lynn D, you sound like a lot of fun to hang with!!

    Hi Mek!

VIG, what a wonderful job you have--you must feel very rewarded! And what lucky students to have you.

Jennifer, you do have a beautiful daughter and you're a great Mom.

Dreama, you're a busy girl! Saving dogs and cars! You have a good heart.

Carol, you're a great daughter and a great friend, always.

Shirley, you are so much more than you give yourself credit for! I enjoy you so much.

    Zona, miss you.

Just_Lin, so glad you and Custard found each other again. You so deserve it!

Sacbarb, LOL@ your skinny person! Your job sounds like such fun! I guess Moms of boys just fall into the cub scout stuff, huh? Note to iteach, you are too busy--just say no! LOL

I forgot to mention that I used to sell Stampin' Up! and I love to make cards and scrapbook. I have tons of stuff.

  86. I am a Pacific Northwest native (born and raised around Astoria, OR and consider my collegiate, child-rearing and career-life city, Seattle, to be 'home'. While I have a degree in English & Secondary Education, life led me instead to careers in Banking (17 years in Employee Benefit Plan Administration--Seattle) and then 15 years in Law Enforcement (Oregon). I'm 5'9" natural-dumb-blonde, last what I'd call slender in about 7th grade.

Being an only child (3 half-brothers in Oklahoma), I knew in the early 90's that the day would soon come I'd need to be closer to care for my then VERY independent and active parents here. Cancer took them both, Dad in '97, Mom in '99. After 9 years, I'm still plotting my best escape route!!

While I'm blessed with on-site friends, I have no family west of an imaginary line drawn from Wisconsin down to Tulsa and all-points east. Thus, I consider you Owls my adopted family and LOVE that you include me in all your joys and sorrows.

I am owned, and quite well-trained, by two 9-year-old sibling gray tabbies, Mick & Willa, and resisting (so far) the temptation to adopt a Bernese Mountain Dog.

An incurable romantic, I am a lover of lush evergreen forests, MUSIC, beaches, MUSIC, rustic coastal villages, MUSIC, reading, and quiet zen moments. I enjoy equally the uproarious laughter of friends and days of total solitude.

I am a divorced mother of an incredible 30-something daughter and 'Nana' to one precious (of course!)and beautiful 8 year-old granddaughter. Missed them terribly while they traveled the world as 'military spouse/brat'. Sadly 3 year-long Iraq deployments ended that marriage. Happily, in June this year, I gained a wonderful new SIL and 2 more grandkids, 13 & 10! Since they are far away in North Carolina, I hover between jealousy and vicarious giddiness when I read of YOUR adventures with grandchildren. More, more!!

  87. Okay, I'm going to comment during the commercials of "Design Star".

Bebbi: Being a Mystery Shopper would be something I would LOVE! Sad thing is, I live in a small town with not much more than a Walmart, which I HATE!

iteach: Where might I find pictures of this sexy husband? wink, wink, nudge, nudge

So cool that Vig and Tink are neighbors! Did you two meet before the blog?

Renee: I'm still 18 in my mind too. The body is telling me something else though. :(
I've never heard of Harmony House.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Iteach, thanks! And hey, I wish you lived nearby too. Wouldn't you and I and and Tink have fun talking about teaching!

Sandie...thank you for your kind comment about my job. I am the lucky one....the kids I work with are my heroes. They work so hard to achieve what most of us don't think twice about being able to do!

Shirley and my niecie Zona...welcome back. You have been sooo missed!

  91. Bebbi: You are living my dream! You were a book store manager too?!?!!!! Cool!

mary/mi: A Karaoke business sounds like a lot of fun!

scirish: I will have to come visit you sometime. I think New England is such a nice part of our country. I, too, love flea markets, tag sales and antiques.

Maureen: I LOVED your bio! It really cracked me up! I knew you were from our great state of O-H-I-O but I had forgotten. I just live on the other end of the state though. :(

  92. I see that the Donna J's are alike in one way....We're both copying and pasting for future reference! LOL! I wrote that before I even read your comment today, Donna Jean.

I'm so, so sorry about your husband Larry being killed by a drunk driver. I really don't even know what else to say, but I knew I must tell you that I felt deeply for you when I read that.

Donna Jean: I love a boy with Down Syndrome. I actually know quite a few folks with it. What wonderful angels. I feel so blessed to know those that I do. The fact that your daughter has Downs, and you care for her on a full-time basis, and talk about her so lovingly, shows me just how big your heart is. KUDOS TO YOU, MY FRIEND!!!
BTW, our family is doing our 2nd Buddy Walk this year. Do you go on those?

  93. Good evening everyone. We have been having heavy rain showers and thunderstorms most of the afternoon but it waited until after dark to start getting real intense. Lightening hit somewhere close cause my friend's cable went down. Now the power keep going out. Plus it's warm and humid. So I hope the power stays on so my fans keep going and I can turn my CPAP on to sleep. No power means I'm up all night and I don't like the thoughts of that. Wish me luck. Good night!

  94. Thanks for the Mystery Shopping links, bebbi!

    lynn d & Shirley: I'm perimenopausal too. Ain't it a blast?!?! NOT!!!!

lynn d: We could be best friends because I have LOTS of dust here at my house! :)
I cracked up at "breed challenged dogs". I've never heard that before. I love it! Can't wait to tell that one to my mom, who just adores dogs. My son says she must've been a dog in her former life because she really cares for dogs more than she does for most people. I can actually understand why sometimes.

VIG:: You have such an admirable profession. God bless you for the work you do for those deafblind children! Oh, and I HATE, HATE, HATE the C-illness too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jennifer: I just LOVE Pugs!!! I grew up with 2 of them myself. They are the sweetest dogs in the world! (No offense to people who don't have Pugs.) They're really good with children and you can't help but love them. Except for the shedding, of course.

Oh, and a BIG CONGRATS on getting your Bach. Degree!!!!!

Dreama: What a funny Repo story! That is one job I would be afraid to do.

Shirley: Thanks for explaining "Robax Platinum". I will try it.
Since you are becoming more and more homebound, I'm glad you found a home here with all of us. Everyone needs a support system. We're here for you friend!

Carol: LOL @ getting your age wrong. I do that too. Once you hit a certain age, it really doesn't matter anymore anyway, right?

Sandie: Were you a Government Agent or what?

Off to read some more! This is fun!

  95. just_lin: Not tedious at all!!!! I really, really enjoyed reading all about you, you crazy cat lady! LOL! That's what they call me in my neighborhood. I once had 11 cats but I have 5 now.
Congrats on your weight loss! I KNOW how difficult it is!!!

I believe in Karma, Donna Jean. Totally!!!

A little about me ~ I have been married 36 yrs., have 3 sons and 3 granddaughters. I like doing things spur of the moment rather than planned. It is almost 11:30 here on the east coast so I can't think too much more. I'm too tired. Oh, I live in Long Island, NY.

  103. Now my own bio:

I am 43, soon to be 44 on Aug. 20th. I'm overweight but working on making that better. I really like myself, but I just don't feel well most of the time. My feet hurt, I have high blood pressure, asthma .... My goal is to get off some meds. The cost is getting cRaZy, and I want to be healthier. Giving up chocolate is NOT part of the plan though. :)

I was born & raised right here in this small town in Southern Ohio. I only left for a yr when I lived in Karlsruhe, Germany when my first husband was in the Army. I married him five days after turning 20. I realize now that I left home just to get away from a domineering, mean step-father. Right from the frying pan into the fire!!!

My ex & I dated a yr & a half in high school & 2 years after graduation. I had a good job in a hospital laboratory right after high school, but left that job to go to Germany.

We had a son while we were overseas. (Ryan is now 20 and is in the US Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. He got married last Nov. & he and his wife live in Va. Beach with their Chocolate Cocker, who I call my grandpup.)

My ex got kicked out of the Army (yes, kicked out...How much of a screwup do you have to be to be kicked out?) so we came back home in Aug. of '88. In Oct. I caught him with another woman. Our son was just 6 mos old and my husband decided he loved this other woman more than he did us, so he left. Not to be seen again for quite some time.

Best thing he could've done for us, although I sure didn't think that at the time.

My Mom helped us a lot. She helped with my baby while I went back to school and got my degree. My plan was to be the most successful single mother in the world! That is, until I met Mr. Hart.

Mr. Hart and I knew each other in high school but had not seen ea other for over 10 years. He lived 4 hours away but was home for his 10 year class reunion when we ran into ea other. He then started driving 4 hours here to see me every weekend. Then he moved here. And the rest is history.

We married in Jan. of 1994. Ryan was almost 6 years old.

That's when I began my job at the Bureau of Workers' Compensation. I worked there until my daughter was born in March of 1998. That job robbed me of my soul and taught me that money wasn't everything. I couldn't find anyone I trusted to watch my baby and I couldn't bear leaving her, so we basically cut our income in half and I became a stay-at-home-mom. My 10 year old son got the best of me then too.

I returned to the workforce when my daughter entered K-garten. I started out substitute teaching (K-12), which I still do (K-3). I also now work as an Instructional Aide at an elementary school, help out in the school nurses office, and I take care of a little girl with diabetes at school 2 days a week.

AND I'm the Latchkey Coordinator there. I work the before and after school hours for those kids of working parents who have no place to send them during non-school hours. (6am-8:30am and 3pm-6pm) I am at school most days for over 12 hours, but the time flies. I absolutely love it!

I am still considered part-time, though, because all of these jobs are just part time. So I have no health insurance. That really sucks because my husband's insurance at the mental health center, where he works, is awful.

I am rambling now, aren't I? Come on. I can handle the truth! On second thought, no I can't. I'll just end this now.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hi Owls...Happy Friendship Day...I just thought I would fly in for awhile tonight and get some smiles with all of you. I have loved reading about everyone. I thought I would write a little about myself too.

I am 61 years old, married with two grown children (a son and daughter). They are both married to great people. My son and dil have my three grandsons (3,6,8) and my daughter and sil have the two girls (8 & 9-1/2). They all live in Denver area so am able to see them frequently.

I was married at a young 21 years of age and only stayed married to my childrens father for six years and then was a single mom for a long time. I married in 93' and my husband passed aways suddenly from pneumonia in 1999. I have since married Mr D in 2002. He is a professor at a community college in the mountains (which he comutes to each day)! I have two grown step-daughters also that live in Virginia Beach.

I was in the mortgage business for about 35+ years and took an early reitirement when I turned 60. I love to read (before my blog life), love to travel, spend time with grandkids and love football!! I am a HUGE BRONCO fan and trying to convert everyone (especially those Raider fans)!!

I am not tiny, petite or too cute but what is the saying....I have a great personality!!! And that is me....

  105. I came back home and have now read everyones bios! I enjoyed every one of them.
    DonnaJo
    Thanks for this blog idea.
    Sandie
Yeah, I went from having a sissy job to one where I am a full blown warrior. LOL
    Shirley
It was great to see you again and I hope you get some rest tonight.
I just watched the news! There is a tropical storm with 50 mph winds named Eduard that they predict to become a hurricane and hit the Texas coast line again. It looks like it will brush Louisana and possibly go in at Houston. I also heard that Atlanta had a storm with 70 mph winds. Yikes!

  106. Mo~~You are neither fat, nor old...Love you to (bacon) bits!

    Lovey~~Can we stop whispering yet?

JustLin~~Sorry, but I'm glad your brother has gone home. I miss your long-ass posts! btw, I didn't even need to post yesterday about the 'fib' TOTD. You stole my words exactly. That happens often. Could it be the 3-day head start on this planet that you have on me??? I love you, my much older friend!

Tinka & VIG~~If only I were a few hundred miles further north, and could pick up LynnD on the way for a tea-party on the beach.

Scirish, ReneeEve~~I'm with you on the mixed blessings of sorting through the parents' homes. A 'mess of memories'. The hardest part was Dad's workshop. I still have power tools whose purpose remains a mystery!

Jennifer~~I don't think Oregon is where you want to be for clouds and rain...not this year, anyway. Since Scirish is in New England where Iteach and I want to be, and she wants to be near the ocean, maybe we could all negotiate a home trade/time-share? And when I get to New England, look out, Shirley...here I come! Can I bring my colored pencils, easel and camera to Nova Scotia?

Zona & Mek~~Want to come with? And, thanks MEK for the rib-eye alert. Time to restock the freezer!

...and to ALL the rest of you, major hugs in equal measure and thanks for sharing (this is getting TOO long). And, too those who are lurking or otherwise having fun today, thanks for all YOUR heartwarming and hilarious nest droppings, too!

p.s. YAY~~Just saw Donna, Dianne and GM have stories since I started this. More to read~~ Wing waves, all!

  107. Now the harder part....we have not heard anything from the biopsies on my daughter Tammy. We are praying for good news tomorrow. It is hard for all of us. My two granddaughters only know and understand a small amount. Tammy has a great husband that is very supportive but very scared too!

She had a call from one doctor's nurse on Friday afternoon telling her it looked like everything was okay. She then called the specialist and they checked and said the pathology report hadn't come back yet. I think this is a two part test and the one we weren't worried about is the one the first phone call was regarding. Needless to say, it has been a roller coaster. My daughter is in a lot of pain all down her arm due to the original problem (whatever that is) and then from the five biopsies too. i am going to go over there early tomorrow and just hang out. My sil goes to work tomorrow and the girls to school. My daughter works from home so I will just be there waiting for our happy news phone call.

I again want to thank each and every one of you for the nice emails, myspace messages, phone calls and messages and comments and notes on the blog. It is very comforting to know I have such good friends. Please continue your prayers and positive thoughts. You are all great. Love, Dianne

  108. Boy, I am talkative..I forgot a couple of things for my bio. I forgot to say that I live close to Denver in Colorado. I have lived here all but three years of my life when I was born in New York. I have one brother that lives here three years younger and have lost both my parents...my dad ten years ago and my mom two years ago. Ok..that's it.

  109. Dianne: So good to hear from you. Still praying for all to be well with your daughter.

I just got an email from a dear friend, a teacher I work with, and her son is in Houston right now, preparing for a second bone marrow transplant. He has been fighting cancer for over a year now and this is his second time having it. Miracles have happened for him before and I know it can happen again. I just want to ask everyone I can think of to keep him & his family in their thoughts and prayers. There is power in numbers!

  110. ***Attention KMart Shoppers*****

~~I had to delete my post and post it again when I discovered I had put the wrong year down for the date of my husband's death. It was a typo.~~

    Happy Friendship Day, everyone!

scirish Congrats on first today. Have I told you how cute your owl is?

Carol and Hart Thanks for the blog today. I, too, am enjoying reading about each of you. We do have alot in common. Alot of us are chubby and love chocolate. Think there's a connection? Hmmmmmm....... LOL

I am 61 yrs old and live in a coastal town in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have two children, one son and one daughter, who are in their thirties. My son has given me two darling grandchildren, boy (7) and girl (5) and a step-grandaughter (15).

I used to rescue feral kittens and had 40 cats at one time. Yes, I had a permit from the city. Now, I only have two old cats, ages 18 and 17 yrs. I am mostly retired but still work part-time for a local veterinary hospital.

I have been widowed twice. My first husband was extremely violent and abusive and I wrote a little bit about it in the nest once, but I can't remember when. My second husband was a retired police lieutenant and very good to me. He was 17 yrs older than me and died 2/4/07.

I am currently having a romance with a man I've known since we were 7 yrs old. He lives in Boise, ID. I am using his picture as my default pic on my MySpace. It was taken during a re-enactment of Custard's Last Stand. The owls nicknamed him "Custard" and tease me quite a bit about it. :)

I used to read alot but now I spend too much time on the computer either emailing Custard or playing in this nest.

For a while, I was really into scrapbookking and put together a couple of photo albums. I'm having trouble getting motivated to start doing that again, even though I have tons of supplies. :(

Now that my brother went home to So. Calif. today, I will try to eat sensibly again, which means not eating too many carbs. I've lost a little over 25 lbs that way and would like to lose another 50.

  111. Bono...got the beach picked out and the teacups packed in my cooler bag! Anytime you and LynnD want to come for an Owls tea party, just hoot!

Dianne...have been thinking about you tons. Continued prayers and good thoughts for you and your family!

Hartldo...You are a caring friend...I will add your friend's son to my prayers. Good healing thoughts to him.

  112. I have totally enjoyed reading all of your bios! I knew I was amongst a special group here.

I guess I should do a serious bio!

49 and 3/4th, increasingly greying at warp speed, gained back almost all of the 60 pounds I had lost. I should wear bi-focals but refuse to admit I have become the age that needs them! My mother passed away in 1997 and my father in 1967. I have one brother and a sorta SIL. I refer to her as "my brother's whatever she is" as they have been together over 30 years and never married! Moved from Milwaukee to Cleveland then to Allentown then to Los Angeles and finally back to Cleveland. Also never married...my nurturing side always seemed to find the losers! While I wish I had married and had children, I am thankful I never married any of thos losers!! I am independent and admit to you that after the turn of events in the last couple of years, over the last year I have struggled with what I think has been depression. I am better now, only too tired most of the time to enjoy myself! I do work 2 jobs and they seem to be rather life consuming, but being independent and having a large quantity of foolish pride, I can't and won't ask for help, so I continue to try and do it all myself. I do love to laugh and try to find the humor in most situations and in life...as I know it can always be worse.

I really do love the foods I said should be the food groups...and my elastic pants are a testimonial to that!

I really must head to bed, but I wanna say again...I LOVE Y'ALL!!

  113. Canadian Owls~~Gotta love a long weekend...ENJOY! Is this holiday the Canadian equivalent of our Labor Day? About all I found on Wikipedia is Commemoration of the economic and social achievements of workers. Inquiring minds want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Thanks for opening up with a serious bio Mo. I'm dying to come to Cleveland sometime to visit the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. It's probably a 4 hour drive from here.

Ah yes, Canadian Owls: Enjoy your extra day off tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Bono...thanks...it is great to have a long weekend even though I am working tomorrow (I had Friday off instead). The Canadian Labour day and long weekend is in September. The August long weekend is a civic holiday in nine of the provinces and territories. It is essentially to ensure that there is a long weekend in July, August and September. Each province has a different celebration. In British Columbia, where Tink and I live, it is B.C. Day and this year it is B.C.s 150th anniversary. Because Victoria is the capitol city, there is lots happening here tomorrow - including free concerts with Sarah McLachlan and Feist. Should be good!

  116. Wow! Tomorrow will be fun in BC! I wish I could be there!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Kewl, VIG~~Thanks for that. Have a blast, and Happy Anniversary! If any owls want a preview of Heaven, just Google up some pics of British Columbia!

  118. Couldn't sleep and decided to stop in.

VIG, I love Victoria!!! We were there in 1998 (on our way home from our Korea tour) and my hubby and I were ready to move there! It is so beautiful and I hope to get back there some day.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Bono,Hart and Sandie...thanks! Yes, Victoria and B.C, are wonderful places and B.C. day should be fun. If I decide to brave the crowds after work tomorrow, I might go with some friends to see Sarah McClachlan. I love her songs. If I go, I will take pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  120. VIG~~We're in for a HOT week. I think we should all just hop an Amtrak and join you!

    ReplyDelete
  121. BonO I love you, too. Since I'm older, can we at least pretend that I am also wiser?

Dianne_waiting_in_Denver Loving positive thoughts being sent to you and Tammy. (((HUGS)))

Hart Also keeping your friend's son in my thoughts.

    VIG Yes, pictures, please!

  122. Bono...hop the rails and come on up! How fun would that be! Hope your week is managably hot!
