Okay, now for my happiest moment on TV. I thought of so many that I didn't know where to start. I thought of Rhoda's wedding and Murphy Brown's birth story. Then there is Rachel and Ross's first kiss on Friends. Finally, we cannot forget about our soaps and all the people that come back from the dead which happens about weekly in soap world.
So after much thought, I went to sports. I remember the winter of my year in fourth grade. I noticed that all of sudden my dad had an interest in hockey when he never liked it before. He explained to me that it was the Olympics and that our hockey team was doing something out of the ordinary. They were winning a lot of games. I watched it with him and I remember watching all the excited faces in the stands. I had goosebumps and everyone was chanting U S A, U S A!
I had never watched that sport before, but all of a sudden I was glued to the Olympic hockey team. All that I could truly grasp was that I was watching a miracle happen and that it was very big news. It felt great to get caught up in the moment and to watch everyone's face light up when they talked about the hockey team. It made me forget about my dad being laid off or all the insecurities that I had of being a ten year old.
Can you remember a truly happy moment on TV?
1st?????????????
ReplyDeleteITEACH...congrats on another great blog! I remember the hockey game as well. What a proud moment for the USA! I think the best Olympic moment this year was when Michael Phelps won his 7th medal by 1:100th of a second.
ReplyDeleteOh, when Luke and Laura got married! What a great TV moment!
I wanted to mention SHIRLEY...your blog was super! I think you would definitely be able to hug your fellow owls if you could ever meet them. And they would hug you back tightly.
and ZONA...that is one of my favorite George Carlin shticks! He was a genius. I have wayyyy too much stuff and I don't think I could pare down to 5...ever!
I have to get ready for work. Have a great day my feathered friends.
3rd... well really second...

Happy Saturday Everyone!
ReplyDeleteITEACH: I truly don't remember seeing this hockey game when it was played. I love looking at it now and can feel the excitement and pride as the USA wins...thank you for posting the video.
I think one of the happiest moments I can recall is when the rescuers in Midland TX pulled Jessica Mcclure out of the well. I know my family watched the entire ordeal. And yes, I had to google her name. :D
MAUREEN: Congrats on FIRST and SECOND!! I loved the wedding of Luke and Laura!
How about when David and Maddie finally got together on Moonlighting??

Good Morning Owls.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Maureen - So nice to see you first this lovely day.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Zona-my-Baby- That was a great blog yesterday and lots of fun.
Good Morning Ibebold - It's wonderful to see you too.
I am rushing around getting ready to go to our Fair. I won't be back on until this evening or tomorrow, depending on how late we stay there. My daughter and family will have their trailer out there so we will have a home away from home.
Iteach - If I don't get to my happiest moment on TV today, I promise I will do it tomorrow. I will give it lots of thought.
Have a great day everyone. Please stay safe.
Maureen, congrats on first and great to see you! Have a good day at work.
ReplyDeleteiteach, I loved that video--it brought tears to my eyes seeing how thrilled the USA team was! I'll have to think about my happiest tv moment--it's hard since I barely remember yesterday! LOL iteach, I hope you get some iteach-time this weekend along with some great time with your family.
IBB, nice to see you! I sure hope your back is better before you go to the beach. Back pain is such a pain!!
Zona, nice to see you this beautiful Saturday morning! I loved Moonlighting, too!
Tinka, have a wonderful day at the fair! It sounds like your family does it right--trailer and all!
I WILL get more things done today...I WILL. Oh sorry, just talking to myself again.
Have a great day!!
ITEACH - I love that moment!!! And I remember watching it and being soooooooo proud. My Dad took us to see the Russians play the University of Wisconsin Badger hockey team. The amazing thing about the clip you chose, it highlighted Mark Johnson (who scored twice!!). He is from Madison, played for the Badgers, and is from the Johnson hockey dynasty. His late father was the coach of the Badgers for many years.
ReplyDeleteI think that Michael Phelps achieved the same at this Summer Olympics....with his amazing wins. Made me proud to be an American!!
Hi to
ReplyDeleteTINKA...have fun at the fair,
IBB...hope your back is better soon. I can so relate. Have a great trip to the beach.
SANDIE...always good to see you, too!
ZONA...LOVED Moonlighting. Bruce Willis is soooo hottttt!!
CAROL...I hope we can catch up before you head out on your trip as well. If not, have a GREAT TIME!!
Bye all...
Hi JODI!
ReplyDeleteHey MO!! Have fun at work!! And congrats on first. :D
ReplyDeleteAlso waving a wing at IBB, ZONA, TINKA, and SANDIE!!!
I hope everyone has a great Saturday. :D
Good morning and congrats on 1si Maureen! Thanks for the kind word about my blog.
ReplyDeleteGood morning to
IBB...hope the back feels better and have fun at the beach.
Zona...since mother is at the fair are you going to have any wild parties at the house?! Lol!
Tinka...enjoy your time at the fair! I know you will, cause you always enjoy spending time with your family.
Sandie...I'm glad you are going to get lots done today (there is chocolate cake in the fridge when you "need" a break).
Jodi...hope your weekend is great! Loved the picture of Jake and his sundae!
Iteach your blog is great today, although I would rather see a Canadian team in that clip! Lol! We have had our share of great sports moments though. Anytime I see the Canadian flag being raised at the Olympic it's a good moment.
ReplyDeleteWith so much negativity in the world I like to see good things happen to people. I can't think of specific incidences, but Ellen does a lot for people on her show and I love that. Oh I remember one...the kid who liked to jump over cars. She brought him on her show and he ended up getting in a Nike comercial. Rosie use to do stuff like that on her show. We need to see more of that kind of TV.
Sorry Maureen, I wasn't a big Luke and Laura fan.
Watching Charles and Dianna getting married was a great moment. I love watching the Royal Family.
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteWahoo Mo got first! I love to see her post!
Iteach I have been wracking my sleep fogged brain and am trying to think of my happiest TV moment.
I do remember everyone being so excited and amazed at the US hockey team that year.
I also remember being amazed when Mark Spitz took all of his gold medals and broke records and Now with Michael Phelps breaking that record I was amazed and happy!
Zona I do remember watching and being glued to the TV when Baby Jessica was trapped in the hole. I cheered when they got her out alive. That was a moment of awe and wonder!
Most of the Time TV for me is well just a tv show.
I do know that as I watched the DNC the other night that I kept thinking I am watching history in the making and being so proud of my country.
I kept thinking about growing up and how so many of my relatives and people that I was raised around were so prejudiced. That at that time it was seemed impossible that anyone one of color or a woman would never be in a serious race for the office of President.
Then came this election year. I have watched a woman and a black man run and run hard for this office and they were taken seriously! Truly an Ah Ha moment.
So watching the first man of color become the nominee for President really made me so proud of my country. It really did say to me all of the things that I want my country to be about but had started to doubt and feel hopeless for the generations behind me. Anyone if you work hard enough can acheive their goals in life, no matter your background or race or gender.
So that was not just a happy moment but a profound call to pay attention and realize that the country I live in is worth the fight and sacrifice because we truly are on the path to the American Dream for everyone.
Waving at all of the owls here this morning MO, IBB, Shirley,Zona,Tinka,Sandie, and Jodi!
Waving at anyone else flying in!
Those Owls at the BBQ have fun and I am thinking about all of you today! Sending Hugs and Kisses your way!
SHIRLEY - I knew you'd like that pic of Jake....I posted it for you!!! Thankfully, he was kind enough to share with his Mommy. :D
ReplyDeleteGood morning LYNN D!!! I too felt like I was watching history in the making the other night. I really feel like this country is in need of a major change, and I have hope that this will happen!!
Good Saturday morning Owls!
ReplyDeleteMaureen...congrats on first and second! Hope your work goes quickly and you have a great day!
IBB...how's it going? Haven't hung out with you here in the nest for ages! Hope all is well!
Zona...hope the earth didn't move (well, you might disagree with me on that one) and the wind didn't blow and the roof stayed on last night!
Tinka...have a fabulous time at the Saanichton fair! I may see you there later...I am thinking about going out to see one of my students ride in a horse show. If I don't make it, have some cotton candy for me! Have fun!
Sandie...from area 51, yup there is room at my place if there is no rooom at the PinkTink Inn! Come on over!!!
Jodi...woohoo...a hockey fan! Me and the Canadian cousins are proud!
Lynn_D..love your words and your message. The recent happenings in your part of the world do indeed prove that dreams are obtainable and obstacles can be overcome!
Shirley...don't you just love when good stuff happens to good people. I loved when that kid got the Nike endoresement and when Ellen gave a Quizno's franchise to a woman who had lost everything due to Katrina. Warms the cockles of the heart (and cold cockles aren't pleasant!!) Actually, I have heard that saying for years, but what the heck is a cockle?
iteach...my fellow teach...what a wonderful happy Saturday blog! Happy moments are always a good thing. I am still thinking about the happy moments I have seen on T.V but the one that comes to mind is watching the Berlin Wall came down. And I am old enought to remember when the first man walked on the moon. And my Canadian pride swoons anytime the national anthem is played to a podium! Didn't happen too many times these past Olympics but it was great watching the rowers get their medals! Thanks, iteach, for providing happy memories today!
BBQing Owls...thinking about you all today! Have way too much fun!!!
Good to see you VIG!!! Hockey is a huge deal here in Wisconsin!! Enjoy your day off....I better get going. Working on laundry and I have to get the rest of the kids' school supplies. They start school on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone has a blast at the BABB!!!
Good BABB morning, 'weenie, tinka, Sandie, HOdi, Shirley, and Lynn D!
ReplyDeleteIBB: Welcome back! We've missed you!
VIG: Good morning to you, too. And from A51 (or A50?): I thought your middle name was "Island"!! LOL! Wish you could be with us today at the BABB!
iteach: I wracked my brain for a moment, and think I came up with the happiest moment.
It was when Jennifer Capriati won the Australian Open for the first time! I was up in San Francisco with a room full of fellow tennis fanatics, and we'd all, of course, followed Capriati's career from the beginning. To watch her actually come back from all those troubles and actually win a grand slam had the whole room in complete bedlam! Unbelievably great memory!
One of you reminded me on MS of the humor that Alfalfa brought to the Little Rascals. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteMy happiest childhood TV memory however was the episode where Lassie found his way home after being lost!
The last time I cracked up was last night watching Arsenio Hall on Jay Leno. It was definately a Depends moment.
Have a wonderful BABBQ.
Okay back to our own BBQ preperations!

iteach~ I love your blog~ I was so excited to watch Dale Jarrett win the Winston Cup Championship in 1999. Also, when Dale Earnhardt finally won the Daytona 500 I cried.
25!!!
ReplyDeleteJust doing a fly-by to tell everyone to have a great Labor Day weekend. I've been a little MIA lately and missed some great blogs, but giving a ((hug)) to everyone. The warmth of human touch has always been a comfort to me, and even though our hugs are cyber, I feel them.
ReplyDeleteAs you all know, I live in Houston, which is 50 miles from the Gulf Of Mexico, as the bird flies...and we are really watching to see where Gustav is going to make landfall. Right now it's a catagory 4, with 150 mph winds.
Monday morning our family will make
the decision about leaving town and heading north.
Years ago, my husband and I lost a 32 foot boat that was tied down in the marina at Key Allegro (where our summer home was) and I have seen what can happen. I'm sincerely hopping it just doesn't come in at New Orleans. We'll see what happens.
Btw, I've got 'stuff' too. lol That was just a precious blog, Zona, congrats. I guess I better start deciding what 'stuff', other than pictures, I want to pack...just in case. Right now, I have enough bottled water to fill a swimming pool, and canned tuna out the wazoo.
Can you tell, I'm just needing to talk? Sorry for the long post, just got to typing and couldn't stop.
Again, ((hugs)) to you all...did you feel it?
iteach, I think my happiest TV moment was when Baby Jessica was finnaly brought-up from the well hole twenty years ago. I cried like a baby.
Carol, enjoy your trip and relax.
Jodi, I'm glad your son had a good birthday.
Shirley, please feel better soon.
To all who are attending the BABB, I hope you have a blast.
I guess this was more than a fly-by, it was a visit with my feathered friends.
Ronnie....I will be thinking about you and sending good, big thoughts your way. Prayers for everyone in that area! Be safe! Sending hugs backatcha!
ReplyDeleteBoy I guess just about everyone has flown the nest for the long weekend! LOL
ReplyDeleteI did not sleep well last nite and so have been extremely lazy today.
Ronnie so glad to see you post. I have been watching news about Gustav all day. Really hoping that it veers off but it does not look good so far. Take care lady!! Will be saying prayers for all of you in his path.
Ok I just watched a show about fast food and how many of the chains started. It kind of made me happy but now I want some damn taco bell!
Tina, what you think you can guess who I am voting for? LOL
Hi Ms. Hodi! I hope you are resting that back!!!!!
Ok back to channel surfing.
Maureen:
ReplyDeleteCongrats on First, and miss you!

ReplyDeleteThe BBQ is under way, and it seems from the laughter all is going well..
I think Mek counted like 17 bloggers. Not sure if the drinks have been served yet, but I am sure it will happen shortly...
Mek:
Always great to talk with you!
Miss you.....
I didn't know you could dance a jig. Can you play the spoons too? Lol!
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone is having fun at the BABBQ. I hope they get lots of pictures!
ReplyDeleteSY:
ReplyDeleteYou are right, I should have not doubted, however I did a little bit, as its like 8 days worth of blogs..
But all came thru...
And yes friends are invited, All I ask is if anyone gets sick from all the partying, to please clean up after themselves... :O)
And no TOGA parties, as nakedness here on the nest, is just so wrong! Remember Birdee in her nakedness... Not a pretty site...
Carol~ how are we going to keep clothes on Whabby? Who will be in charge of that?
ReplyDelete50~
ReplyDeleteSY:
ReplyDeleteWell yes pics are being taken, however not so much in the pool..
SY:
ReplyDeleteYes I can "jig" and spoon, however my spoon is used to fed myself, not for banging on my leg... You see I would rather eat!
:O)
Tina maybe you could be in charge of Whabbear.
ReplyDeleteTina:
ReplyDeleteJust do not show Whabby a picture of
"Dan Blocker" and he will be fine!
Instead show him Marilyn Monroe and that will surly make him kept his clothes on...
:O)
Should I cancel the male strippers then?
ReplyDeleteNo shirley....keep the strippers, but have them arrive before Whabby gets home! :D
ReplyDeleteUnless you want to see Joey and Whabby naked, than you should cancel...However a naked man no matter what...is always a good thing!
ReplyDeleteCarol~ Maybe I'll just walk around neckid....that should make him keep his clothes on~ Hell...he'll probably run!~
ReplyDeleteTina:
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same about me..
LMAO....
60
ReplyDeletelol Carol~ do you have a poster of you neckid for while you are gone? It'll save me from catching cold~ :)~
ReplyDeleteLegs spread open and I am ready to fly...

Goodnight Jodi and Shirley~
ReplyDeleteJodi just called me and told me a good night story about Ho's.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jodi!
Good night Tina, Shirley, and Carol.
I had fun tonight.
I am flying in after a wonderful day at the fair. The weather was beautiful and my kids and grandkids won their usual share of ribbons. The highlight in the competition for us was when Cara won not only 1st place for her strawberry jam but also won the big "Best in Show" ribbon for it as well. The other highlight was Thomas winning the "tallest sunflower". It was huge, at least two feet taller than the next size. Between the 4 of them they won 12 ribbons. I took some pictures but not many because the children were at the midway when Brian and I were checking out the entries. I am really tired so I am heading to bed. The family is still out there.
ReplyDeleteIteach - I can't go to bed before I comment on your blog. It was great as usual. There have been many happy moments on TV. I will mention the first one I remember. It happened long before you were born. In 1953, "I Love Lucy" was the most popular show. When Lucy became pregnant with Desi Jr. they thought the show would have to go off the air. A pregnant woman had never been shown before. They decided after many meetings to write the pregnancy into the show. On Jan. 19, 1953, Desi Arnaz Jr was born to Lucy and Desi.
The same day Lucy went to the hospital and gave birth to Desi, Jr., the network ran the scheduled episode where the fictional Lucy Ricardo gave birth to "Little Ricky" and millions of TV viewers watched, (72% of American and Canadian TV's were tuned in that night.)
We were all so excited. The T.V. Guide that week had a picture of the newborn Desi (the actual Desi Jr) on the cover. It was years later that the public was told that the little baby shown as Little Ricky on the show was not Desi Jr. We were told he was and in those days we all believed what we were told. Jan 19, 1953 was a happy moment on TV that I will never forget. Of course it has been shown hundreds of times since in re-runs but that night was special.
Goodnight iteach~
ReplyDeleteTinka~ that is fabulous~ Thanks for sharing that~ My cousin LOVES Lucy and i remember watching that show over and over as a kid. My cousin makes me watch it now when we are together~ Goodnight~
Tinka:
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the fair, and your family won ribbons... Kuods to them..
I loved what you wrote about Lucy, Great Story, thanks for sharing....
Iteach:
Good nite...
I am off to bed as well. See ya all tomorrow..
Good nite Jon Boy :O)
Good nite crackwhore Tina :O)
Goodnight Almighty Crackwhore Carol~
ReplyDelete
