Our Secret Strength

Bon'O took this picture, and I loved it so, hence my blog

~~~~~
Written with admiration for MEK
Did you ever think you would not be able to handle something that was sent your way. For whatever reason, it just seemed so overwhelming when it was presented to you, that you just said "I can't do this" and even if those words passed thru, you knew in your heart you would have to handle the task at hand no matter what.
It has happen to me many times, and it has happen to you. We are so much stronger than we think, our beings are so resilient, that I really think our minds trick us into believing we cannot do it, when all along we can.
When we are going thru our deed, we find the strength within us, a strength we had no idea we had, a strength that was there all along, it was just hidden, as we as beings like to hide things, keep them a secret, until we need to share. And when the time comes to share, the secret emerges. Strength in numbers.
Its like when a tree changes with each season. A tree starts to grow in the spring, and in the summer it is at full bloom, when fall begins, it must weaken and the leaves start to fall. During the winter the strength of the tree has diminished. However when spring rolls around it finds the strength to rebuild, to grow, to be what it is naturally to be. A tree with life, and many leaves to share with all.
It is resilient, as we are. Resilient when we need to be. The tree finds the strength, no matter the elements or the odds. And so do we~~
  7. Good Morning Shirley, Congrats on First, Tina, Goldie, and Whabbear.
    Mek - That is a beautiful blog. Yes, I have been through some difficult times and have been surprised at how I was able to make it. The worst thing that ever happened to me was being suddenly told 'out of the blue' that our marriage was over. I got through that one with the help of my sister. It was a close one. There are others but I must run. It is Pro D Day and my two grandchildren are on their way over here. They will stay with me until tomorrow at around 10:30. It will be fun but very busy. I won't be on the computer again until tomorrow. Have a great day everyone.
    Goldie - My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Have a great day everyone. See you tomorrow.
    I have learned that life is hard but the rewards are beyond compare.
  23. I'm flying in for a moment and then flying off with a busy day of pre-vacation tasks to complete.
    Goldie, I woke up early this morning and the first thing I thought of was you and wanted to let you know you'll be in my thoughts all day until I can check in and know all went well.
    Carol, thanks for the blog and MEK, thanks for the inspiration. I have a very dear friend going through a tough time so these words touched me deeply.
    MEK, I hope we get in to the shows since they always send out more tickets than they have seats. I'll be able to post from the hotel that night but the show will already have aired. I'm still looking for a great sweater to wear as the latest weather forecast is 35-52 and partly cloudy...brrrr!
    Shirley! Congrats on first! Your strength is there. Sometimes you have to relax the reins a little to get the horse going in the right direction. A wise friend told me to look up into the sky and ask the universe (God, your Higher Power, etc) to take some of your burden. I tend to forget this until my shoulders are so weighted down I don't know if I can get up again. The universe brought all these wonderful people together in this nest and we're so very thankful you are one of them! I'm making a wish for some yellow to come your way today!
    Rob, you'll be on my mind until this election is over and I sincerely hope Prop. 8 is defeated but if not, I hope you find comfort in knowing so many of us love you and support your marriage regardless of what the law says.
    Lani, thanks for what you said in area 51 about my animal work. Truth be told, there's no thanks needed. I've felt compelled to do this for a very long time and didn't have the resources to get involved. What little I've done in my first year of volunteering has already given back tenfold and I'm really looking forward to working in the senior and adult care facilities with my little ZiggyJ.
    Tina, Tinka, LynnD, Bon'o, Mary/MI and whoever else popped in while I was writing and for those who will be in later, have a very pleasant day! The sun is shining and the air is fresh and cool and I don't have to be back at work for 3 weeks!!
  24. GOOD MORNING EVERYONE
    CAROL: What a beautiful blog, and oh so true. The word fear also comes to mind. Not only the lack of feeling strong, but also fearing what we are facing. What a beautiful tree. When I was a small child I always felt that God lived in the trees. Your heartfelt thoughts and using the tree as an example are perfect. Thank you.
    Speaking of trees, how fortunate are those of you who live where the leaves change color.
    BEAR: I don't know how much it will help at this late date, but I noticed last night there were a lot more ads on NO for 8. Some from the school district.
    GOLDIE: I know by now you are at the hospital already, but I hope you are feeling all of our prayers and heartfelt thoughts for you.
  25. Good morning, Hooters.
    Shirley Congrats on being first in the nest. You are stronger than you think. You don't give yourself enough credit.
    Goldie What a surprise to see your post this morning. I'll be thinking of you with loving, positive thoughts.
    MEK Big hugs to you. You are a super lady and I feel blessed to have gotten to know you, at least a little bit, due to this wonderful nest of ours.
    Carol Beautiful blog today, as beautiful as Bon's lovely photograph. If I would have known the horrible things I was going to be faced with, I never, ever would have believed I would survive it, not physically, mentally or emotionally. It's amazing what we can handle.
  26. OUTATUUNE: I have worked at a veterinary hospital for years and many times a client will say, I couldn't work here as it would be too difficult to see sick and hurting animals. (Sometimes it is true that there is great sadness) I say, most go home with their people, well or on the mend. Some of these clients volunteer for rescue groups, foster dogs and cats, feed cat colonies etc. To those who do that work I have always said, you are the ones who have great strength and unselfish love. To love them more than protecting one's own feelings. Gee, it sounds like this goes along with today's blog doesn't it.
    It also reminds me that too many times I am like an ostridge with my head in the sand. I guess I have turned this into a self help session, but maybe that was the point of today's blog.
    Have a wonderful trip
    Well, here goes, I am going to hit the publish your comment button.
    GOLDIE - I know you're already at the hospital, but looking forward to hearing from MR. GOLDIE. I'm sure everything will go well!!
  29. While idling away a few lunchtime moments online, and thinking of our nest, today's blog topic, posts from and about those here who do such good work with and for humans and animals, etc, I ran across a fitting parable. I'll post it below.....
    BOTTOM LINE: I've decided our nest is in a pine tree.
    ReplyDelete
  30. A PARABLE
    In the early times, the trees and animals were always able to talk to one another. They lived close to each other and shared many things; but every year, the cold time came and the birds would fly south to where it remained warm and would return with their families in the spring, when the warm season returned.
    One year, as the cold season approached Sparrow was injured. He would not be strong enough to fly to the warm lands with his family by himself, so he made his family fly south to the warm lands without him.
    Injured, he knew he would not survive the cold season. So he sought the help the trees. He approached Oak. "Oh, Oak, I am injured, and cannot fly, the cold season approaches, and if I do not find shelter before then, surely I shall die. Please, Oak, let me shelter among your leaves and branches during the cold times, that I may heal and greet my family on their return in the spring."
    But Oak was a crusty old tree, and did not relish the idea of having a guest in the cold time, so he told sparrow: "Sparrow, go find somewhere else to spend the cold time. I do not wish you to spend the cold time with me."
    And poor Sparrow was hurt in his spirit to be turned away.
    So Sparrow went to Maple and asked her. "Maple, I am hurt and not able to fly to the warm lands with my family for the cold season. Please let me shelter among your leaves and branches during the cold time, or surely I will perish. And Maple, though a very sweet tree, did not enjoy the thought of a guest for the cold time and she too, turned Sparrow away. "you,....., you go ask someone else to shelter you, Sparrow. I do not wish you to spend the cold time with me."
    And again, hurt in spirit, Sparrow was turned away.
    Sparrow went in turn to each of the trees and asked each for shelter in the cold time; and each, and every time, Sparrow was turned away...... until there was no tree left to ask, except Pine.
    With no hope left..., but not willing to accept death...., Sparrow approached Pine.
    "Pine, I am injured, and not able to fly south to the warm lands with my family. If I do not find shelter before the cold time, I will surely perish. Please...., let me shelter among your leaves and branches during the cold time..."
    Pine thought to himself, ("I am the least of the trees, what can I do?") ....but his heart heard Sparrow's plight. "Sparrow... My leaves are tiny... more like needles... my branches are not as many as other trees... but what I have you are welcome to share."
    And so, Sparrow spent the cold time with Pine. And when the warm times returned in the spring, Sparrow's family returned also. And Sparrow had healed over the cold time and flew to greet their return..
    Creator had seen and heard all that had happened between Sparrow and the Trees. And Creator called a great council of the Trees and spoke to them..., "You, who were given so much......, who had so much, would not share the least of what you had with Sparrow in his need. Because of this.., from this day forward, when the cold time is upon the land, your leaves shall wither and die and blow away."
    Creator then spoke to Pine. "Pine, you, who had the least of all the trees, gave so much, have touched my Spirit. When the cold times come, You of all the trees shall keep your leaves they shall remain green through all the seasons for the gift you have given me, through Sparrow."
    And that is why, to this day, that when the cold time comes to the land, all the leaves wither, and die, and blow away.... Except for Pine.
  31. BON'O: I love your parable. It took me right outside with the trees and the sparrow. I think you are right that the nest rests in a pine tree.
    ReplyDelete
  32. BON*BON - Luv the parable!!! And it makes me smile, because our lot is filled with pine trees. :D
  33. BonO That was a lovely parable. Our nest is definitely in a pine tree. :)
  34. Happy Friday Owls.
    Carol, Your blog really spoke to me. It is so true, we don't know how much we can handle. When my Hubby died, I knew I wasn't going to be able to get through it, but his best friend reminded me that God doesn't give us more than we can handle. I know, too, that a lot of people have been through a lot more difficult times than I have, so when I am faced with a challenge I try to remember that and to count my blessings, among which is this nest. MEK, thanks for the inspiration for today's blog.
    ReplyDelete
  35. Shirley, congrats on first. Love seeing you here in the nest.
    Mo, The FOAD monster had me hostage all day yesterday and I couldn't post until last night. Hopefully he will set you free soon.
    MEK, congrats on #10. I hope things are getting easier for you now.
    Bon, that is a beautiful parable and I teared up reading it. I agree that the nest is in a very lush and beautiful pine tree.
    Mary, So when you get your oil changed, do they put you up on a rack like the cars?????
    Zona, are you sleeping??
    Goldie, You have been in my thoughts and prayers all day. I hope you are doing well.
    Waving a wing at all the other Owls. I hope everyone is having a good day.
    It makes me look at the scraggly pine trees outside my window in a new and wonderful way!
    Yay for Goldie! Thank you to Mr. Goldie for sending Jodi the message so we can all breathe a sigh of relief!
    Sacbarb: I dropped Mr. Lynn D's and my ballot off today! I feel like a weight has been lifted and now it is just anticipation.
    We have the death with dignity law on our ballot this year. Based on Oregon's existing law. I am very curious to see if it will pass here. There have been some very rigourous religious groups trying to stop it from even getting on the ballot. The radio and TV commercials are running like crazy!
    I am rambling and I don't know why! LMAO
