~A song from me to them~

For Baby by John Denver

Chosen by Sandie

From the time each of my babies was born, I would rock them, cuddle them, lie next to them at night and sing this song. It's not one of John Denver's most popular songs and I'm not even sure he sang it first but from the time I heard it (when I was a single girl) it was special to me.

From Patrick, who would twirl my hair and suck his thumb to Tyler who would hug me so tight to Aubree who would stare intently into my eyes, I sang.

All three of my children will practically get teary when they hear this song as it now means a lot to them, too. They all say, "I remember when you used to sing that to me!"

So, one day when I'm long gone, I know my children will have a special song from me to them. Maybe they'll even sing it to their kids.

  2. Sandie...what a beautiful blog. I haven't heard that song in years and it was a lovely treat this morning to start a busy day with a song filled with yellow. I think that is so sweet and wonderful that you sang that to your kids...and it will be your special song for ever more. I used to sing Puff the Magic Dragon to my nieces and nephews when I was looking after them when they were little and they are all grown up now, but they still think of that as "Auntie's song" which really touches me. Thanks for a fabulous blog and lovely memory this morning, Sandie!

  8. Morning Scirish! From Area 51: Mary/mi was saying she wondered how your father was? How is he?

Well, off I got to WallyWorld.

  9. LOL Scirish..yes, fish for dinner and carrot cake for dessert. His two favorites. And, I am not inclined to bake a carrot cake either, Walmart has a perfectly good one already baked for 8.00.

  10. Bebbi...I haven't caught up on comments yet...but my father is home and getting therapy. He still says some rather alarming, confused things and no word on if it's permanent. I just keep praying.

  11. Good morning,

Sandie what a beautiful song to sing to your children.

    I love John Denver.

I use to have a tape, but I played it way too much. It doesn't work anymore.

I think I need to splurge for the CD.

  13. Sandie...What a sweet blog! It's wonderful that your kids have those memories. I can't remember my Mom singing to me (that is probably a good thing!) but at bedtime she used to play a game where she would trace letters on my back and I would try and guess the word. We had many a giggle and I cherished the alone quiet time with her.

  15. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on First Bebbi!

Sandie that is so sweet. I got teary eyed reading about how your kids relate this song to you.

I'm not sure if there is a song my kids relate too. I did sing to them but usually it was silly songs I would make up on the spur of the moment. I do this with the new baby too.

Congrats once again to Whabby and Huz!

Goldie it sounds like your sons wedding was wonderful! Congrats to the the newlyweds! Hope you feel ok this morning! LOL

Scrishy: Glad to hear your Dad is home. I will say a prayer for improvement on his part everyday. (((Hugs)))

    Waving at everyone.

  19. I always loved John Denver and my favorite song was Country Roads. As a kid I knew the words by heart. The song was about West Virginia where I was born.
Thank you Sandie for a great vblog.
    Bebbi congrats on #1.
Have a great day everyone. I have to bath Cinnamon, finish a load of laundry before I head out this afternoon. I want to play with my new Kodak Easy Share digital camera.David bought it for my birthday even though my birthday isn't until Tuesday. It will take video clips and has settings for sunsets, close ups, self portraits, candle light,in motion, etc. etc. and even snow scenes. It even makes black and white photos. I love photography so this should be fun!

  21. I just got back from church, I went with my cousin and my nephew, I love going to church with any one of my nephews, it brings back so many memories as when they were little, we would go together all the time.

Church just brings me peace,I embrace my religion. From when I was just a little girl, Church has always been a part of my life, there are times I go forward without it, and then I must reconnect, and when I do I feel so much better...

I think its the time of year, that brings me closer, Novena starts on Tuesday, and I am looking forward to it.

I have another ailing aunt, it has been so hard watching all my aunts and uncles getting older and struggling with life. I guess it it is just a part of life, and we must go thru it. But it can be so hard...as each and every one of you know...

  24. Bebbi Congrats on first and Happy Birthday to Mr. Bebbi.

scirish Sending healing thoughts to your dad. I hope he improves daily.

Sandie What a very sweet song! I don't think I've ever heard it before. I used to have a tape of John Denver's music that I played all the time. I especially loved Annie's Song and Sunshine On Your Shoulders. Once, when my mom was visiting, we flew to Lake Tahoe where we went with my friend to a John Denver concert. It was great!

  25. Good Afternoon Everyone,

Sandie, yes I loved to sing and rock or lay with them too. But I never had a real song, I would make up my own song, I would go with the flow but It was called Baby Boy, Baby Boy, Ma-Ma's little baby boy, then I would add things in about their eyes, hair, hands, toes, and they would laugh and touch my face. I still rock my 7 year old just for fun, he likes to sit on my lap and I rock him and say remember when you were a baby and we would rock and rock and rock, he says he does, but maybe he does.

My mom use to sing to my sister and I You Are My Sunshine, and I guess she had to sing that to me nightly and if she would stop I would say SING MAMA SING she said she use to sing hours to me. LOL

Carol, I'm so sorry, for your Aunts who are getting Ill. I know how hard it is to watch Aunts/Uncles get sick. I was VERY close with my Aunt who passed in 2001, she was like my second mother. It hurt so bad when she passed away. But I know shes up there watching down on me and my children she watched Anthony since he was 4 weeks old so I could go back to work, then Vincent, until she got really sick in June of 2000 then I quit in July of 2000. But my sister use to watch him once a week just to make sure she had time with her Godson.

Congrats on First Bebbi and Happy Birthday to your hubby, my hubbys is Oct. 25 we will both be 43 this year.

Hi Maureen, Yes its cold in my house too, I hate to turn the heat on, so my kids are wrapped in blankets. OH WELL. I'm not cold, but I think its pre menapause. I freeze my whole family out, I tell them they can put sweaters on, so live with it.

Good Morning iteach, Vig and Scrish,

Scrish, I'm glad your Dads home from the Hospital, and getting therapy, just hang in there and we will continue to pray for him and your family.

Dreama, I also have a Kodak, but I don't know if it has all them features, I just want to take pictures, my brain can't handle all them fancy things, the less complicated the better for me. LOL

I'll be back later I have to get my rear in gear!!!

  26. When my daughter, Elizabeth, was a baby, I started calling her Lulubits, which got shortened to Lulu, as a nickname. There had been a cartoon show of the cartoon character, Lulu, and I used to sing the theme song to her. She is now 35 yrs old and goes by
"Liz", although I call her Elizabeth. Her older brother, however, has never called her anything but Lu or Lulu. LOL

  27. Hello dear Hooter*Friends! Hope everyone is resting up for what just HAS to be a better week than the last one.

Sandie~~What a beautiful and touching blog. I connected especially with your last sentences..."So, one day when I'm long gone, I know my children will have a special song from me to them. Maybe they'll even sing it to their kids."

For my daughter and I, this one is our 'always and forever' song:

YOU & ME AGAINST THE WORLD

  28. Bon,

When I was growing up, we lived with my grandparents, but it has always been, my mother, me and my younger sister Lisa. I did not have the Daddy/Daughter Dance at my wedding, But when my sister got married in 1993 she married a man that his mother/father were also divorced, so my mother and Lisa danced together and Donnie and his mom danced together to Thru the Years by Kenny Rogers, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I was sort of envious. But then again I did have the old fashioned polish wedding with Breakfast after 8:30 am mass and reception starting at 6:00 pm.

  29. Congrats on # 1 Bebbi!

Sandi, I don't remember that song. It was beautiful! I loved John's voice. So soothing.
    Bono, that was sweet, thanks.

My mother used to sing to us in Spanish. She had a soothing voice too.

Scirish, thanks for the update on your Dad. I will keep him in my prayers.

  30. Good afternoon feathered friends.

Drats, I did it again...slept the day away and now I have a major headache.

I don't remember even being sung to sleep, but I'm sure I was. I would never sing anyone to sleep... with my voice, they would surely have nightmares afterwards!

I need to get some Advil in me, and then gather the laundry and head to the laundromat.

    See ya later...I hope.

  31. Congrats on first, Bebbi! And, Happy Birthday to Mr. Bebbi! I hope he enjoys his fish and carrot cake!

VIG, Puff the Magic Dragon is such a great song! How sweet that your nieces and nephews think of you when they hear that song.

Thanks, Mo! Are you warm yet??

Scirish, many hugs and prayers for you and your Dad. I know that can be scary. My sister and I used to trace letters on each other all the time, too!

iteach, thank you! I have always loved John Denver, too.

LynnD, thanks! You're little grandson is so lucky to have you.

MEK, I saw John Denver in concert, too! He was awesome.

Dreama, have fun with your new camera! I love my camera. I just wish I could remember to bring it with me . . .

Carol, thank you! So glad you are close to your nephews. I'm sure it means a lot to them. I'm so sorry about your Aunt. I so agree with what you said--it's so hard watching them grow older. My Aunt is still not well and I'm hoping to see her sometime soon as I don't know how long she'll last.

Just_Lin, you saw John Denver, too! I still can't believe he's gone. :( My Dad used to call me little LuLu!! I was a chunky little girl with long hair that Mom would sometimes put in ringlets like the LuLu character. I hated it. LOL

Renee, you're a good Mom. Wow, you had a long wedding day!

Bon'O, I love that song, too! How special to have that with your daughter.

Thanks, Mary/mi!! Hey, did you make that appointment yet?? I'm gonna keep bugging you!!

I thought of him when they found Fossett's wreckage this week.

John also died in one of those "toy" airplanes.

  35. Good Evening Owls...how is everyone doing today? Anybody watch any football? We won our game but it wasn't too exciting. The score was 6 to 6 through most of the game until a touchdown or two were made near the end. Thank you JODI for wearing the shirt again...you for sure bring the good luck to the Broncos!

I loved John Denver. It will be his anniversary of his death this month (I think). He was one of my first concerts also.

Looks like things are pretty quiet on the nest. Maybe everyone is tired out from the two wedding celebrations yesterday. GOLDIE, glad to hear things went well for your son and dil. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Well, I am off to watch Amazing Race and Cold Case.

  39. Hello! Anybody home? I had kind of a long day today. I attended a remembrance for my former hairdresser who killed himself a couple of weeks ago. They had a very nice affair and a lot of people attended. He was very talented and even did makeup and wigs for the San Francisco Opera and even for opera star Marilyn Horn. This was his third suicide attempt so apparently it is what he really, truly wanted to do. He made sure no one would find him until it was way too late. Such a shame. He was very kind, compassionate person.

  40. Hello everyone. I'm just doing a fly by to say Hi and Good Night. I've had a very busy day and I hope you all have had a good day. Be back tomorrow.

Sandie, I love that John Denver song. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sandie: Thanks! and yes, Brothers & sisters was REALLY Good! I love that show!! I am really beginning to hate that one character who plays the ex-mistress and who runs the company now though. She is just hateful!

Just/lin: I am so sorry for your loss. It makes me so sad when I hear of suicide, because it hurts so much the ones one leaves behind. :( BIG HUG!! Very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  42. JUSTLIN: I am sorry you had a hard sad day today. It is so sad to think someone is that unhappy and can't find peace in living life. Sorry for your loss.

TINKA: I am missing you so much. I hope to see you back tomorrow. I am still sending hugs to you.

I guess I will head off to bed and watch Desperate Housewives before I doze off. I like to record it so I can zoom through the commercials.

SANDIE: You are so funny and what a great idea!! I think you hit the nail of the head of everyone wearing Bronco shirts and on to the Super Bowl. I need addresses and sizes and I can tell you that SACBARB AND ZONA are going to be extra thrilled with your idea. :)
