Based on an idea from Zona! Thanks, kiddo!
So it’s the day after Halloween. When I was a kid, this day was as important as Halloween itself because this was the day that you really got to spend time with the candy haul from the night before. It was a day, if one could swing it with parents, that candy was on the menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. It was a time to sort the candy and create groupings….my categories were always along the lines of chocolate, chewy, and rejects. It was the big negotiation day and the trade period of the rejects for siblings’ non-faves. It was a day of really treasuring the best and getting rid of the ones you weren’t happy to find in that pillow case candy bag. Apples, raisins, peanuts, and toothbrushes were definitely in my discard or trade pile. In the olden days when I was a wee trick or treater, homemade caramel apples or popcorn balls were a true find. It kind of saddens me that those have had to go the way of the dinosaur. Mars bars, Smarties (Canadian version of M&M’s), Oh Henry’s (Canadian?), Reese’s and Twizzlers were always my most treasured candy treasures and I hung on to those ones tightly and savored every bite.
What was your favourite candy to get at Halloween? What didn’t you like to get? Do you give out the kind of candy now that you liked to get as a kid?
ha! first???
ReplyDeleteyippeee!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about Oh Henry! bars..yum! My favs were Mounds bars...the only problem was, I had to fight my Father for them!
ReplyDeleteEveryone must be tired from the party last night...Great costume Bebbi!!!
ReplyDeleteSo who WAS Hef?
Happy Birthday Tina!!!
Good morning Scirish!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Tina!
There were 8 Lane kids. Not one of us liked the "peanut butter kisses" they weren't real peanut butter or real Kisses. They were wrapped in black or orange wax paper, twisted at the ends and they were chewy and GROSS.
All Lane kids and parents were fond of any chocolate. None of that was up for trade. But if you were the littlest Lane...sometimes you could swipe a couple goodies and go on about your life, completely undetected. :D
We called our haul "Booty" which still makes me giggle as a grownup.
We live in a rinky dink town and my daughter did get a homemade popcorn ball. The lady put an address label on the sandwich baggie. I guess she figured that would make people feel safe about eating the homemade treat. We decided to send her a thank you card in the mail. But my daughter hasn't decided if she actually wants to eat it.
The teen center party was a huge hit. Completely exhausting for me. My son was out in the haunted forest scaring the kids as they rode through on the hay ride. My daughter said he wasn't THAT scary. He said her scream was louder than all the other kids' screams.
Today I am going to decompress and eat the "poisoned candy" that was in my daughter's booty...hmmm...that sounds WAY more disgusting than it actually is! In her haul, yes, now I see why that wording was changed. :P
Have a great day everyone!
Thanks VIG for the blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks Zona for the idea!
Morning and congrats on 1st Scirish!
Good morning No Newz!
Peanut butter cups were and are my favorite Halloween treat. I remember getting a lot of bags of chip and taking them to school for a long time after Halloween. All the gross hard candy I gave to Dad. He would eat anything.
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA!!!
Congrats on being first today Scirish!
Hi Now News and Shirley!
NN, welcome to the nest. Until yesterday I had missed about 4 days of the blog, so didn't get to say hi to you.
I will look for you on Myspace this weekend so can send a friend request!
It's raining this morning, we finally have "normal" weather for this time of year, after 80s-90s last week.
I have a busy day, so will check back later!
SCIRISH...congrats on 1st!
ReplyDeleteVIG...tasty blog! I loved getting Reese's Cups and 3 Muskateers! I always hid some candy for a rainy day...and found it in time for the next Halloween! It saddened me, when I was older that I had to inspect each treat for tampering..i wanted to dig in as I collected it! Oh, and they do still sell Oh Henry bars here!
Hi LOIS! Nice to see ya!
EBJ...welcome back! How was your trip?
Last night was so much fun here! BEBBI was hilarious and SHIRLEY set up the most incredible party. What a blast!

Happy Birthday, Tina!! May you have the best of days!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first, Scirish!
VIG, I loved just about anything chocolate. So did my sister, so there wasn't much trading going on.
I am still laughing over last night! Lani, you shamelessly used me to get the answer out of Pillsbury Doughboy!! Way to go!!! LOL!!!
Bebbi, you were terrific! (And yes, I'm fine--thank you for worrying about me.) You had us all going. As soon as I got up this morning I ran to the blog to see who PDB was!!
Good morning, Scirish, no_newz, Shirley (thanks again for the party!), EBJ, Moweenie, and MEK (missed you last night!)
I wish for everyone this gorgeous day we're having in GA!
Oops, forgot to change out of my Carol-owl costume!

Tina Happy Birthday to you. You still look 29.
ReplyDeleteScirish - Congrats on first.
Good Morning No News, Shirley,
East Bay J, Maureen, Mek and Sandie. Hope you are having a great day.
I am sorry I missed the big party yesterday. I will read up on it today. I was so busy and now it's time to take down the decorations. It was definitely family time. With my large bowl of candy, my own kids and grandkids were the only ones who came to my door. That is the first time that happened. I always get at least five. I remember back when my kids were little we would get nearly 100 cute little kids at our door. I miss that but we made up for it with our own fun

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, more than 100 years ago, we were very lucky if anyone got candy in their bags. There weren't many people rich enough to buy candy for others. We would come home with a large bag of apples. Sometimes they were candied and that was a treat. So were the pies that my mom would make with the apples. It was fun just dressing up and going from door to door in the dark.
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were little they would come home and spread out all their loot. I liked what was called "five star" candy bars. They don't make them now but I would always get them from the kids as they didn't like them. They spent almost as long sorting and trading as they did collecting. We always had a party at our house for the neighbours and family. There was a large bon fire, fireworks, hot dogs etc. Now my son-in-law has carried on that tradition. The party is always at their house. He took the fireworks course this year and got his license so there was no worry about letting off the fireworks. They have been banned here unless it's an official event.

ReplyDeleteI am off to have breakfast and to take down the decorations. Unlike Christmas when I hate to see the decorations come down, I can't get the Halloween ones down fast enough. Nothing looks sadder than Halloween decorations in November.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day everyone.
VIG - My dear friend. I am sorry I forgot to say what a great blog you wrote. You and Zona make a fantastic team. I loved the video.

ReplyDeleteGood morning! I wanted to sleep in but my Pekingese had other plans.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to find in my Halloween bag was always the chocolate candy bars.
I have a cousin who still lives in the same small town and every year she still makes candy apples for the kids. When we lived in a small town one year my Mom made popcorn balls.
This year we didn't get very many trick or treaters. I am guessing because it fell on a Friday night and the kids didn't have to be to bed early for school. There were many "safe houses" for the kids this year such as the Mall, the churches set up booths, the Moose Lodge had a Halloween party for the kids, Heritage Park had a party for them, etc.
Every where I went shopping at yesterday the employees were in costumes. It was a lot of fun!
I know that Bebbi was Pillsbury Doughboy but who was Hef?
What a great party yesterday and last night! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy birthday Tina! Have a fabulous day!
Thanks to Zona for the idea for this blog! And thanks to you all for sharing your candy or Halloween memories!
Every day after a party needs a pooper and today this is me.... I am kind of in a downer mood, so I don't think I will be on the blog that much. Today is the funeral for my student. Yesterday I went and helped set up for his service. They are having it at his school because he loved school so much. It was painful to watch a Mom, who should have been gettting her little boy ready for Halloween, getting ready for his funeral instead. And today we honor his very short but very powerful life. I go with huge wads of kleenex in my pockets. It is going to be so sad!
Sorry to be a downer...have a fun day after. Enjoy your candy!
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Candy?? M&M's of course! LOL
Scrishy 1st again?? LOL
Sorry I did not get back for the party yesterday. I was running late and had to throw on my witches costume ran out the door, realized my lower back was kind of hurting. I shrugged it off as I did not have time to deal with it. Got to the haunted house ran last minute errands for them and boy were we busy!!!
Nobody recognized me when I showed up! LOL I kept getting "who are you?" I guess I did a pretty good job on the makeup. I scared two little dogs when I ran to get beverages at the local store and scared some little kids and their parents! LMAO I forgot my darn camera in all of the rushing around. Called my friend and she graciously drove up and took pictures for me. She will email them to me later today and I will try to put them on myspace as soon as some of my energy comes back.
Anyhoo, by about 9:00 pm my back was hurting so bad I could barely sit down and had to throw in the towel. I missed the fire breathers they were setting up when I left. I did however want to go brain the pirates as they had a cannon and were setting it off, made me jump every freaking time! LOL
We were a hit for a small town Haunted House and many adults who brought their kids were scared and said we did a great job!
I know I am rambling, it is the after effects of the muscle relaxer I had to take last night when I got home. Coffee I need more coffee!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHORETINA!!!
Who won the toaster????
Vig I am so sorry sending you lots of (((Hugs)))
ReplyDeleteOops fell asleep evidently in this costume! LOL
ReplyDeleteTina Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeletescirish Congrats on first. No sugar hangover for you today, I see.
VIGThank you for the blog today. I'll be thinking of you today. (((HUGS)))
I was prepared to give 2 candy bars each to 90 kids. How many came to my door? Um, 12!!!!! WTF? So I am bringing the left over candy here, to the nest. They are Milky Ways, Snickers, and Mr. Goodbars. And YES, I definitely buy candy that I like.
As a kid, I used to love the ritual of sorting the candy. I think I sorted into 4 piles.
1. Excellent
2. Pretty Good
3. Okay only if #1 and #2 are gone
4. Forget it!
Yes, who was Hef, anyway? I was thinking maybe it was Delores.
ReplyDeleteHappy day after Halloween Owls.
ReplyDeleteShirley, you throw a great party.
Vig, (((HUGZS))) to you today. It is so sad when a child gets taken so young.
Scirish, congrats on #1.
I remember sorting my Halloween candy into two groups:
Excellent, which was all the chocolate;
and
Everything else. I don't think there were any I didn't like.
I have been getting tons of phone calls this morning, starting with my son at 7am, because the news has been reporting a shooting on my street at midnight last night. One man died and four people are in the hospital. It all happened about 6 houses away and I didn't hear a thing. I was watching Leno.
I am leaving soon with my son and DIL for a late birthday lunch. BBL
Waving a wing at all the other Owls.
Happy Birthday Tina.
VIG~ great blog~ I LOVED the day after Halloween.....lol....and the candy was just a bonus~ (i kinda thought we should just speed thru halloween, personally~) I loved trading candy with my brothers and sister.....but man did we get cutthroat about it~ As my kids got older, they realized that they should just give up and give me some chocolate so at least they have control of what I take~ :)~
ReplyDeleteScirish~ congrats on first~
thanks to scirish, no newz, EBJ, Mek, Sandie, Tinka, VIG, LynnD, J/L, and Jodi for the bday wishes~

ReplyDeleteHey, Tina, Happy Birthday and guess who else's birthday is today?
ReplyDeleteMy cabbage patch doll Georgia Ann.
For Real!
I still have her and she looks good for her age.
iteach Hmmmm, maybe Georgia Ann is Tina's long lost twin! :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Everyone!!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA!! My birthday wish for you...may every dream you have become reality..may every wish you make, come true...may your days be blessed..and your nights be satisfying. I hope all the things that bring you happiness come to you today..and everyday. Happy Birthday again, my friend!! :D :D
LOL...I was comment 43!! Off to read the blog!
ReplyDeleteROFL!! I was also #44!! ;)
ReplyDeleteVIG, big hugs to you today. I'm his mom will be so glad you are there.
ReplyDeleteZona, what a nice, sweet birthday wish for Tina!
iteach, you just crack me up! Give Georgia Ann a big cabbage hug from Auntie Sandie.
Tinka, I'm with you--I can't get the Halloween decorations down fast enough either. That's what I'm doing today. I actually didn't do too much this year so it won't take long.
ReplyDeleteVIG: Oh my brother was a master manipulator when it came to getting our Halloween candy! If my mom hadn't stepped in, my sis and I would have just been left with Starlight Mints!! I loved Baby Ruths..they were my absolute favorite candy bar. One year, as we sat on the floor..our candy dumped onto pillow cases for mom to inspect..my brother opened a Baby Ruth and tossed it on the pile. "Oh GROSSSS!!" he said "It looks like a dog turd!!!" And it kinda did! I told my mom I didn't want them anymore, and she could throw them away. That's when my brother grabbed every single one..and there were alot of them..and put them with his candy. I said.."But you said they were gross!!" He just grinned.."Doesn't mean they're not good!" What's a little sister to do?? lol...
ReplyDeleteI think it was soon after that, that Reeses became my fave candy bar...and since my brother was not a peanut butter fan..he never tried to get that one!
Thanks VIG for the shout out..but this was actually your idea from a while back. I know...you don't remember..but that's because you're so much older than I am!!
GREAT BLOG today Auntie... ;)
Good Afternoon Everyone!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on First, scirish.
Happy Birthday Tina!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm off to have some Birthday cake with my niece.
VIG, (((((HUGS))))) to you♥♥

LOL!!! Mo, I see you had some fun with my avatar!!!!
ReplyDeleteyou sneaky little oinker!!!!!
Love ya!!!!
Just caught up on yesterdays party!
ReplyDeleteWow you guys! Bebbi that was masterful! I would say you win but it seems wrong somehow to give the Pillsbury Dough boy a toaster!
Hope everyone has a great day. Mr. Lynn D and I are headed out to have lunch with our other daughter and her family!
Be back later.
I just thought of a funny Halloween story to share with you guys.
ReplyDeleteOne Halloween when Aubree was four, she went out trick-or-treating as did our two older boys. Of course, they came home loaded with candy. Patrick emptied his out into one of my baskets and kept it in the dining room. Well, as the days went by, he kept accusing me of eating his candy and I kept telling him I wasn't (I really wasn't!). It seemed his stash was getting lower and lower.
About this time little Aubree began to carry around this little doggy backpack that she had never shown an interest in before. I commented on it and thought it was cute. I asked her what she had in it and she said, "things." Also at this time she started spending more time in her room, playing. I really didn't think much of it even though I noticed.
One night after she went to bed I saw her little backpack on the floor and decided to look inside. You guessed it! It was FULL of candy wrappers. Patrick's candy wrappers, to be exact!!!
We still laugh about that.
Thank you iteach for the b-day wishes....I'm not sure tho if Georgia Ann and i are twins~ :D
ReplyDeletezOnA~ You are the dearest friend~ Thank you from the bottom of my heart~ AND....i still don't think I can wear those heals~ :)~
Birdee the chickenowl~ thank you too~ you're a hilarious bird~
OMG~ ZONA~~~~ I LOVE that picture....hot man!!! He's in Texas this weekend~
Sandie That was a very cute story. What a clever little girl!
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH: Congrats on FIRST thru Fourth....lol..
ReplyDeleteNONEWZ: I remember being disappointed if we got peanut butter kisses too..
SHIRLEY: Another Reese's fan!!
EBJ: I can't wait to get our normal weather..all the candy was melting last night..it was in the 90's during the day and it never really cooled off.
TINKA: We got almost 400 trick or treaters last night...our block was like an amusement park!! I got worried at about 6pm when only a few had shown up..but the floodgates opened by 7..and I think we gave out the last of the candy after 10pm..it was crazy, but fun.
VIG: I'll be thinking about you today..and saying prayers for your students family...
LYNND: I hope your back is feeling better...
SACBARB: I'm glad you are all right...and you're just like me..I never would have heard a thing!
ITEACH: Well then, Happy Birthday to Georgia Ann...!!
BIRRRDDDEEEEE!!!: Great to see you..ummmm, is your chickenowl ok..it looks a little underdressed and confused...
MEK: ((hugs))
MO: Don't work too hard...please!!
HIYA SANDIE!!!
TINA: SWAK!! You only have to start with the heels...lol...you don't have to end with them... ;)
OK...gotta run to the Post Office....honest...I'm really going...geez I'm so postally challenged..but today I really WANT to go!! Have a great day all..
Did I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA??!! :D

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday TINA
My heart will be with you today VIG
Sending healing thoughts to all who are suffering today from the last 2 days from tainted eyeballs, spiked punch, sugar overdose, and sore ribs from laughing sooooo hard.
I mostly remember my mother confiscating our candy and doling it out to us as she felt appropriate. At some point when my daughter was growing up, the schools finally got smart and closed school to the student the day after halloween in order to have a conference day. Let the little critters come down from their sugar high at home.
I presumed BEBBI was HEF also. Perhaps we have another mystery to solve?
BEBBI, I should have put a :) after my SANDIE comment.
Sorry Carol, I am still wearing your costume.
ReplyDeleteBREAKING NEWS: I is actually raining in the Bay Area. Not just spitting at us, but a real downpour. If it gets too windy our electricity may go out.
I better change my clothes
Hi ZONA & BIRDEE
J/LIN: I didn't mean to miss you! I am running around like a chicken (sorry BIRDEE) with my head cut off trying to get to the post office before it closes! I think all of your trick or treaters came to our house last night..we have very little candy left...thank God!
ReplyDeleteHI LANI!! lol..coming down from the sugar highs at home!!
DIANNE: Check your home email...
Gotta sprint..oh this should be a trick..not a treat... ;)

Happy Happy Birthday...
Oh, almost forgot... Your dream of being a crackwhore has come true, so I now hope all your other dreams come true... :O)
Is TINA really a horny plumber?
ReplyDeleteVIG - Great blog!!! Anything Reese's has always been my favorite!! I also have a special place in my heart for Twizzlers. :D ((((hugs)))) to you today as you attend that funeral. Your post brought a tear to my eye. It brought back memories of when my friend had to bury her 4 year old. It is never right to have to bury a child.
ReplyDeleteZONA - Can't wait to see the pics of your spooky house. I'm sure all 400 trick or treaters loved it!!! Thanks for sharing what it sounded like. :D
TINA - Again, let me wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you enjoyed ALL your reditions of "Happy Birthday" on your voicemail!!!
Shirley LOL!!! I think I'll pass on the leftovers, thanks.

ReplyDeleteThanks SLIN
ReplyDeleteThat was me who deleted a post. I was experimenting. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. It's not everyday that I get to dress my friends. LOL
ReplyDeleteSLIN I think you will find everything a lot easier with your new glasses, which by the way are quite stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe lights are starting to flash.
I am in election and blog purgatory. Everyday I get nothing done. Maybe the flashing lights are from God and not the rainstorm telling me to get my butt off the chair.
SLIN: If this is SLIZABETH'S birthday tell her happy birthday from me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend/Evening Everyone!
ReplyDeleteI have been MIA for several weeks, due to personal feelings, and some family issues.
I want to be honest with all of you. I felt sometimes that all I did was talk about my problems, Laurie's health, etc.
(long story short, good news, her Stent and Pacemaker are doing so well, she doesn't need any more surgery until next year, about this time) Yay!!!
I felt at times I could not get into the fun you all have. I am not one with "one liners", or a catchy answer to someone's comment. I must admit I have blushed and felt a bit "out of place" at some of the comments.
I laugh so much over your banter, it makes me happy when I read the comments. I just wish I was as clever as all of you.
I got a bit political in my views a month or so ago, and I respected Carol's wish, that this be a political free zone, so I stopped.
So anyway, here I am, back again.
I went back these past few days, and read so many of the first blogs and comments, when this wonderful place was born.
I read most of my own, and the wonderful, sincere, and encouraging comments sent back to me. Especially those from last January and February, when Laurie was first in the hospital, and we didn't know any diagnoses or prognoses. Everyone of you wonderful people, were so loving. I couldn't have asked for more caring friends.
I found reading some of those long ago written comments very revealing. I could be happy, I could be sad. And, I could be funny sometimes!
Especially I noticed the evolvement of so many Owls. This Blog allowed everyone to be "themselves", no matter what.
Have any of you gone back and read your comments from the beginning, or even three to six months back? It is very interesting.
On a different subject, I did something today that I NEVER thought I would do. Even though I am very passionate about my feelings politically, I have never argued with anyone who had an opposing view.
My very sweet, 78+ neighbor who came here from Germany in the early 50's and I had a very verbal discussion regarding Prop 8. I am sure everyone is aware of that Proposition, even if it isn't in your state. It didn't end happily.
She is "Yes on 8" and I am am "No on 8".
Because of our generational differences our feelings are polar opposite.
Unfortunately she is swayed by those ads for Prop 8. What totally cracks me up though, is that she is voting for Barack Obama! Go figure.
I have to thank a "Very Special Owl" whom I phoned and patiently listened to me earlier today ranting over this subject. I am sorry I took so much of your time, although, I felt so much better after talking to you! Hope you enjoyed your lunch, that you finally got to eat after I hung up!
I am sending love to all, but especialy to those of you that are undergoing stress, depression, physical illness right now. I may not be able to relate to your particular situation, but I know the feelings of desperation many of you are undergoing.
I will be so happy when this Election is over, and WHOEVER wins, that everyone of us, can come together and be united for the good of our Country!
Peace and Love to Everyone,
Donna Jean
DONNA JEAN: I know we haven't ever spoken on the blog, however I empathise with you for going through illness with someone. I live in California and it looks like NO on 8 has a good chance. I not only pray for pace in the world,(hopefully I don't sound like a beauty contestant :) ) but also for peace and acceptance in people's hearts. Take care
ReplyDeleteDonnaJean I was just coming on to let everyone know we had a great conversation today and here you are! I enjoyed our talk very much and you can rant anytime. :) Great news that you and Laurie Elizabeth get a bit of a break with all the medical stuff. I'm sure her little body will benefit from a good rest between surgeries.

ReplyDeleteMy decorations are down and I can now relax. I think maybe a good movie is in order.
ReplyDeleteVIG - Thanks for calling me.
(((((Hugs)))) You have been through a lot today. Now you have little Angel Ranger to watch over you.
Donna Jean - So glad to hear from you. I was getting worried.
Before I watch my movie I have to say how much fun it was to read about the party last night. I just couldn't fit it in with my family schedule. (I did put my pictures up).
ReplyDeleteThat's the most comments we have had in months. I hope none of you have hangovers
today.
The wind is coming up quite quickly. It sounds spookier than last night. I am glad all the little ones are safe in their homes.
Zona - I can't imagine having that many trick or treaters. The most I have ever had in the past was over 100. It would have been nice to have had at least a couple of kids besides my family. I froze the remaining candy to avoid temptation.
ReplyDelete**Attention K-Mart Shoppers**
ReplyDeleteI've got hot chocolate, hot tea, and hot spiced cider for everyone. Help yourself! Oh, and here's marshmallows and whipped cream, too!
I think I will get a little exercise and march to 100 before I watch my movie. Is anyone in the nest to help me?

ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY Thank you so much for your appetizing offer of our leftovers.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for spell check. When I was growing up spelling, and English in general, was my best subject. Hard to believe now.
See you all tomorrow. Have a leisurely night. Thanks again for the fun.
ReplyDeleteTinka Great march to 100! I was busy brining in the marshmallows or else I would have joined you.
ReplyDeleteTINK: You are never alone.
ReplyDeleteUm, I wasn't "brining" in the marshmallows, honest! I was "bringing" them in. :)
ReplyDeleteJ/SLIN: Apparently someone else should be using spell check :)
ReplyDeleteJust Lin do you have any coffee?
ReplyDeleteSlani You betcha! LOL
ReplyDeleteShirley You betch! Hot coffee coming up! I've got cream, sugar, and Splenda on the sideboard. If you look in the cupbord underneath, you'll find a little something to add a little kick to that coffee. :)
Hi Tinka, Lani, Donna Jean and everyone else.
ReplyDeleteDonna Jean I'm glad things are improving for you and Laurie Elizabeth. I like to read your comments. Keep them coming!
Just Lin thanks but no thanks to the "little something" for my coffee. Drinking that stuff usually gets me in trouble so. I'll just have one sugar and milk. Thanks! You wouldn't happen to have any carrot cake would you? I thought Tina might have left some birthday cake but I don't see any. *sniff*sniff*
ReplyDeleteShirley Sorry, no carrot cake. I do happen to have an awful lot of Snickers, Milky Ways, and Mr. Goodbars, though.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks Just Lin. I just had a couple bite size coffee crisp bars a little while ago.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget to change your clocks back tonight, unless you are in an area where you don't have to. I wouldn't want anyone to be late for work tomorrow.
BBL
Shirley Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bunch of Owls you are! Thank you all so much for your kind comments about this blog and about my wee student. Although I never want to go to a funeral for a child again, there is indeed a reason for funerals. It was an amazing celebration of this amazing boy's life. Apparently the dad had wondered if anyone would come to the service - and the school gym was absolutely overflowing. And not a dry eye to be seen! A wonderful testament to the impact one special boy can have!

ReplyDeleteDear VIG: Thank you for letting us know you are home and that it was a beautiful ceremony. I hope all of you will heal soon. With Love, Lani
ReplyDeleteThat's my deletion above! It was ridded with spelling mistakes. The teacher Owls would have been appalled!
ReplyDeleteLet's try that again!
Attention shoppers: I have lost my yellow, hand waving Volkswagen...if anyone sees it could they let me know! Thanks!
Lani....thank you for your nice comment. What a kind and lovely recent addition to the blog you are!
ReplyDeleteHi hooters,
ReplyDeleteShirley thanx for the reminder about setting the clocks tonight. I completely forgot!
VIG my favorite Halloween candy was anything with chocolate, nuts and caramel! (Like SNICKERS!) YUMMMMMMY!!
My brother and I used pillow cases for trick or treating, we'd come home and dump it all out on the kitchen table.
We would sort it out and of course my mom and dad would pick out their favorites!
I also loved those "Sweet Tarts" and bubble gum.
We had about 40 kids come to the house last night. MR. EBJ does the candy duty, he bought it and passed it out.
He bought Snickers, M&Ms and Reeses peanut butter cups, and there are just a few Reeses left.
They may be gone by tomorrow morning :)
DJ good to see you back, glad miss Laurie Elizabeth is doing good! Give her a hug for me!
We have apple pie if anyone wants it, and vanilla ice cream!
And, I have a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream if anyone wants a bit in their coffee.
Bay Area bloggers, did you get a downpour today like we here in the east bay did??
VIG I'm so sorry about your student, I forgot to mention that in my post.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you my dear xoxo
VIG: Car spotted...July 1st...12:30am...you might be able to upload it from there...not sure though...
ReplyDeleteVig, I don't know the whole story, just the words funeral and child don't look right side by side. I'm sending love and prayers to you and the Little Angel Ranger's family.
ReplyDeleteI love the stories, memories and of course the candy goodness.
Tina, thank you. I love to write about anything or nothing at all. :)
Donna Jean, welcome back. I just found my way to the nest via Whabbear. I'm glad Laurie is back on the mend.
Thanks to all my new friends at MySapce. I felt like a little kid getting all of those cute Halloween messages. :)
MO: Unfortunately I haven't taken a trip lately! I wish!
ReplyDeleteBirthday Girl Tina... what did you do to celebrate the big day today?
Scirish! Congrats on first!! Thanks Sciris, I am glad you enjoyed my costume! ;) I am wondering who Hef was too, I will have to see if someone fesses up in the comments. I can only see down to #5 while writing this.
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog Carol! Great idea Zona!~ That was a really cute video!
I used to love to get all kinds. I know my brother and I would always have a big time trading candy! I had just as much fun with my kids, watching them do the same with each other.
Okay, going to read more comments.
I walked 20,301 steps today. It made up for yesterday when I only walked 7,478 steps (my goal is 8000 now).
ZONA...you are one clever cookie, Snickerdoodle! I found my Millie Volkswagon on July 1st! Thank you, thank you, kiddo...I have missed her so!!!
ReplyDeleteMy little buddy Luke is here for the night. He is eating dinner and listening to the music on your MS page! He loves it!!!!
EBJ Yes, lots and lots of rain since late last night. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOOps..I said Carol, and was reading and realized Vig wrote the blog..sorry Vig. Also, I hope that you had strength today. That would be absolutely the hardest thing for me, to go to a little one's funeral. :( Very sad, Big Hug!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Tina and Iteach's Cabbage Patch Doll!
sacbarb: Hello and that is scary about the situation in your neighborhood. :( What part of Sacramento? My mom used to live in West Sac. On Douglass Blvd, Riverbend Apartments. Last I was there, they were building a low income housing complex right next to it.
Shirley: I think you were the most festive and did the best job in planning the Halloween PARTY! You were hilarious in all your descriptions and detail. Thanks for making it such a hit.
Carol: Was that a new record number of comments yesterday??
All who played along with PDB, he says he had a great time and everyone was wonderful. I say, thanks for the compliments on the costume and I had so much fun too. :)
Donna Jean: I am glad to see you back. I had no idea you felt uncomfortable too sometimes. I really enjoy your comments too and I understand the need to vent. I am glad that you come and feel comfortable enough to share your feelings. I always feel bad that I miss some of the things going on with Laurie Elizabeth. I am glad though that right now the medical procedures are on a little break. That is probably a relief for the both of you.
Sandie: I am GLAD you are okay! Thanks and I had a great time last night too. :) It was pretty sneaky to use you to trick me into saying, but If I hadn't have missed JustLin's question, "is it bebbi", at 11:15 p.m., it would have been over sooner. That was really dumb.
My sister called last night while I was commenting here and a close friend of hers has kidney cancer. :( He's a really nice guy and has a little girl who is 6. It makes me sad for him. :( After I got that news, I got really tired. I don't usually stay up so late either..lol. SHIRLEY, I tell ya, it was quite a party!! Good job!! and of course to Carol too, for having such a wonderful place..good job..
NOW: WHO's HEF???????????????? Will we ever know??
Whabby..was it you? Where has Whabby been anyway?
EBJ Just saw on the news that we have had .95" of rain so far in Pacifica.
ReplyDeleteLani: Nope, I wasn't Hef. I would love to know who was though.
ReplyDeleteEBJ: We had a couple of good downpours in Pacifica and lots of wind. It started last night and it is a warm one, as it was 76 in the house last night. When I took the dogs out it was actually on the warm side.
ReplyDeleteBebbi Whabby is in Palm Springs and I think he was probably partying too much to get on the computer. :)
ReplyDeleteJ/L: Oh, that's right. I remember him saying that. I bet he is too. Hmmmm...who was HEF???? OMG, it is going to drive me crazy...okay, maybe I obsess.
ReplyDeleteEBJ: 40 kids! Wow, that is a lot. We had maybe 15 tops! We gave out Dr. Peppers, except to little kids, we gave chocolates.
ReplyDeleteTink: I missed you at the party. I hope that you had a wonderful Halloween with the grandchildren though.
ReplyDeleteAs I am typing here my dog is lying on his back snoring really loud..LOL. I wish you all could see and hear it, it is hilarious.!! I am going to take a video and try to post it on MS.
BEBBI: I guess I better not try emotional blackmail this time. :)
ReplyDeleteJust got back from Book Club where we discussed The Friday Night Knitting Club. It was a good book if any of you are interested. We had a lot of fun tonight.
ReplyDeleteDonnaJean! I always enjoy seeing you here! I so wish you had a myspace so I could keep in touch with you. So glad to hear Laurie Elizabeth is done with her surgeries for awhile!
So glad you're safe, sacbarb!
Tinka, enjoy your movie.
My outing made me pretty tired so I'm headed to bed. Goodnight owls. Sweet dreams.
For Shirley~
ReplyDeletePumpkin Pie ala Marie~
and loads of whipped cream~ (ala Marie, too!) :D I don't really do cake~
thanks for the bday wishes lani, carol, and bebbi~
ebj~ i voted~ guess who? lol~ And my daughter had a volleyball game...then we went for dinner and had pumpkin pie....my favorite~
my sister just called me.....she spoke to me in spanish....and I started laughing and told her that she used baby words so i would understand....she said, "yeah, pretty much!" that's my sis~ :)~
Oh, for all you Biff lovers--the book came up again tonight in our book club! I swear we talk about it all the time and we read it last December!! LOL I know a few of you have read it now, too.
ReplyDeletePretty sneaky stuff Lani, I will have to remember that about you. lol. *makes a mental note, Lani will use any means necessary to get the information she desires*
ReplyDeleteGood night Sandie.
ReplyDeleteBebbi, I was surprised that we got that many kids, too. I'm glad he bought extra candy (I thought it would be left-over and I could eat it!) haha!
ReplyDeleteBut it turned out that he handed most of it out. :(
I think there have been 1 or 2 times that the comments were over 1000. I think the 100th blog party was the most comments, if I remember right.
Lani and JL, we had rain starting last night, and on and off all today. We had a real downpour this morning.
I'm so glad the rain is here, our water bill has been sooooo high. It was a pleasure to shut the sprinklers off!
Goodnight, Bebbi!
ReplyDeleteEBJ: I wish we had handed most of ours out. I ate 4 baby ruths and felt crummy about it all night. I made up for it today in steps though. Also, watched what I ate real carefully. I am working on turning my negative thoughts into positive ones. In the meantime, Mr. Bebbi took the candy and hid it. YAY!
ReplyDeleteGood Evening Hooters!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA
Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the fun and hope everyone has a good evening.
Sandie- I am reading the Biff book right now. It is on loan to me from Jodi.
Welcome back donna jean- good to see you posting.
oops- guess I needed to change out of my costume too!!
ReplyDeleteWell, good night all. I am tired so heading off to bed. Sweet Dreams to everyone and have a great evening.
ReplyDeleteGoldie I see you are still in your Halloween costume. Scary! LOL
ReplyDeleteEBJ I'm glad I remembered to turn the timer off on my sprinklers. Yes, on our 100th blog, we had a race to 1,000 and I won a $25 gift certificate from Carol. That was really nice.
You are welcome EBJ.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pie Tina. Pumpkin pie is one of my favorites too.
Bebbi thank you for your kind words about the party. I think everyone had a hand in making it sucessful.
I think I'm going to call it a night. It's almost 12:00 here and I'm tired. Good night Vig, Just Lin, Lani, Goldie, Tina, EBJ, and anyone else I may have missed or who shows up later.
Goldie Oh, I see you took your costume off, afrer all. Good night.
ReplyDeleteBebbi Good night to you, too.
SACBARB: I am glad you are alright. That information is quite horrifying.
ReplyDeleteEveryone have a good evening
Vig:
ReplyDeleteThank you ever so much for todays blog, I appreciate it so....
I loved most of the candy I got on Halloween. The only thing I did not like was the pennies and any kind of food, oh and 3 musketeers... Otherwise I ate it all :O)
And
So very sorry for the loss of that precious angel. He will be in your heart forever....
Good night Shirley!
ReplyDeleteI did not read all the comments today, I am kinda pooped, however I did skim...
ReplyDeleteDonna Jean:
Your comments about you and Laurie are never to much, If that is whats on your mind, then that will be what flows. I am always glad you share with us. Please continue to post whenever the mood strikes you...
And
I have no issue with posting your political believes here on the nest, I am sorry if you got the wrong impression. If you feel strongly about a political party then my all means post away.
Good to see ya today, and glad Miss Laurie Elizabeth is doing well...
Sacbarb:
ReplyDeleteI am glad you did not hear anything and very very glad you are ok...
Geez that is scary.....
Shirley:
ReplyDeleteWhat is your avatar? It looks like a poppy, however I am not sure...
Zona:
ReplyDeleteSpotting Vig's car... LOL....
Carol my avatar is a poppy pin that we here in Canada and England (possible other countries too I'm not sure) wear after Halloween until November 11th which is Remembrance Day. It is to honor the soldier who fought and continue to fight in wars. It's to show you won't forget them.
ReplyDeleteOh My Eunice is back... How fun!
ReplyDelete:O)
Is it her birthday too? Oh thats right she is deceased...
Iteach:
Your Cabbage Patch doll... Happy Birthday to her...
Shirley:
ReplyDeleteI thought so.. Poppy's are popular here also. I see them on Veterans Day which is Nov 11 and on Memorial Day which is in May...
So it seems the poppy is universal.
I learned something new today...
I think a poppy avatar is a great idea. As it will make us remember!
Thanks ♥♥♥
Ok, now my mind is a whirling...
ReplyDeleteI wonder why a poppy for these special days?
Sandie:
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of that book, I will look into to tho... Glad you had fun...
Google "In Flander's Fields".
ReplyDeleteI'm baaaackkk!!
ReplyDeleteHad a good lunch with my son and DIL, her daughter and my grandson. Then they came over to my house and visited and we watched a video of Jeff Dunham. He is a comedian/ventriloquist and he's really funny.
Zona & Sandie, Thanks.
Bebbi, I would have been terrified if I knew what was going on. Since I was oblivious, it was all good. A neighbor came over this evening and told us all about it. There were fire trucks and cop cars all over the place (no sirens) and even a helicopter, but since I was in the back of the house, I didn't hear a thing.
EBJ, It poured here most of the day and we had light rain on and off all day yesterday.
Bebbi2, I live in East Sac, very close to Rancho Cordova and about 20 minutes from West Sac. There is a scrapbook store in West Sac that I frequent and the Pheasant Club restaurant that has the best steak sandwiches evah. Other than that, I don't know too much about W. Sac.
Ok, Shirley I will, Thanks...
ReplyDeleteHi Sacbarb, I did not see ya!
ReplyDelete:O)
167
ReplyDelete168
ReplyDelete169
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that is rude to 169 on one's own blog...but dang that felt good!
ReplyDeleteLani, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCarol, Hi and Thanks.
VIG LOL I'm sure that was fair and square! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteVIG, Not rude at all. Get it anytime you can.
ReplyDeleteSo many nice comments here about what this day entailed, that it has made the day so much eaiser. Thank you all so much for the kind thoughts and words!
ReplyDeleteJL...thanks...not always sure of the 69 and variations protocol!!!!
ReplyDeleteSacbabrb...thanks to you also on the reinforcement of proper 169 etiquette! What a night on your street last night! Hope you and your neighbours are all okay!
ReplyDeleteHi SacBarb,
ReplyDeleteWow that is so scary! Glad you didn't know what was happening at the time.
MR. EBJs mom lives in South Sac, we are trying to find her a house down here so she can be closer to us.
Congrats VIG on 169!
I just had a chance to skim comments.
ReplyDeleteVIG sorry to hear that one of your students passed away. I wish everyone always lived a long and healthy life.
DonnaJean great to see you again. I was just thinking about you and going to e-mail you. I am glad Laurie's operation went well.
Tonight we turn the clocks back an hour. I'm not sure what time I should go to bed. Hmmm..
Bebbi my Pekingese snores also with that little flat nose on her. She gets even louder when she sleeps on her back.
ReplyDeleteGood Evening....TINA, I have been trying to call and sing to you all day..hope you received the beautiful singing voice mail. :)
ReplyDeleteBEBBI: Your doggy sounds like my husband when he is sleeping in the recliner. His snores get louder the longer he snoozes. I don't think I better put him on myspace...he might not think it was very funny.
VIG: I have been thinking about you today. I am glad you have Luke there tonight to keep you company.
JODI: Have you got on the shirt--all cleaned and spruced up?
SHIRLEY: I will take some of those left overs for my next football party, I think it is on November 23. They should be nice and ripe by that date.
DONNAJEAN: I was just looking for you last night. Glad to see you back and glad to hear that Laurie is doing better. That will make the holidays even more cheerful for you and your family.
P.S. TINA...I love pumpkin pie too.
I love pumpkin pie, too, with whipped cream.
ReplyDeleteSacbarb: My nephew lives in Antelope and my ex brother in law lives is Rio Linda. My sister lived in Rio Linda for years. I miss going there every year (sometimes twice a year) to visit. I liked Old Town and we would go to dinner on the boat in Old Town too.
ReplyDeleteDianne: Yes, Mr. Bebbi snores too and I don't think he would find it funny to post him either..lol. But poor Bandit, until he talks and says no, he is gonna be put on the internet.
I woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep! I am going to try again.
Dreama: I love Pekinese, they are so cute. That is what Bandit does, he gets louder on his back. bbl, going to try and catch a few more ZZZzzzs.
