Young Love by Sonny James
Last Sunday, I responded to the video Carol had chosen by mentioning the fact that there were four popular songs when I bought my first car, a 1957 Nash Metropolitan. I wrote that when I hear those songs I am right back in my little "Esmerelda". Carol asked me to find one of the songs for this Sunday's Music Video; so in her words, "We can all walk down memory lane with you".
That is what I did. I found "Young Love" by Sonny James. Immediately, I was transported back to 1957. I remember every Friday at 3:00 p.m. hurriedly locking up my one-room school house where I was teacher, secretary, Principal, and school nurse all rolled into one. I would jump in my Nash, turn on the radio and Sonny would be singing my song, "Young Love". I happily drove down the Malahat so I could spend the weekend with the 'Love of my Life.' He was attending the University of Victoria. No, before you snicker, I spent the nights at my sister's house. There was no hanky-panky for me in the fifties. I married my 'one true love' in a beautiful, white dress on a hot July day in 1958. Life was good.
Alas, it did not last. Mary Hopkins, a friend of the Beatles, later wrote and sang the song, "Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end. We thought we'd sing and dance forever and a day".
Is there a song that brings back memories of your "Young Love"? Will you meander down memory lane with me today?
first?
ReplyDeleteyipee!! off to read
ReplyDeleteTink...What a wonderful blog! I especially loved the picture of you with your Nash. What a cutie you were (and still are). I'm sure there are songs floating around in my head that remind me of the first time I fell in love...but I don't think that part of my brain is awake yet....maybe after more coffee???
ReplyDeleteScirish:
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, and Congrats on First!
Tinka:
ReplyDeleteFantastic blog! I loved the song, I loved your picture, I loved your words...
Thank you Tinka, for sharing a part of your life with us...
Fantastic!!!!!
I am off to get my hair done...yes its 4 week already!
ReplyDeleteI will see ya all later....
Have a great day!
Happy Sunday Everyone!
ReplyDeleteTINKA: I LOVE that picture! You are as beautiful now as you were then..and I think just as cool! I remember hearing 'Young Love', though I couldn't say exactly what year. I can absolutely remember "Those Were The Days"..it was one of my favorite songs! I would 'sing and dance..' everytime it came on the radio.
The first song I can really associate with a boyfriend is "Hello Again" by Neil Diamond. The relationship didn't last long..but I still love the song.
In college a boy named Bobby Joe decided 'our song' should be "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel. Maybe that should have been a red flag... ;)
"Evergreen" is Mr. Z's and my song. It can bring tears to my eyes. Just love it.
Thanks for another wonderful blog TINKA...and more great memories!!
Ok...I have had coffee and still all I can think of is break up songs...sorta tells you which way that first relationship went...
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH: Congrats on FIRST!!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I have the song "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond running through my brain..lol..
TINKA...sweet blog! And you...what a hotttttt young chickee!!
ReplyDeleteI remember my first car, a 1984 Dodge Charger. Charcoal grey. As soon as I stepped onto the car lot and saw it, I knew it had to be mine! Turned out to be a real piece of crap!
SCIRISH...first again! Woo Hoo!
Waving a wing to CAROL! Your hair always looks great.
ZONA...good morning! Only the good die young? Yep, red flag!
LOL...I just googled the lyrics to "Only The Good Die Young"...what was I thinking? It must have been hormones...and gorgeous blue eyes... :D
ReplyDeleteHI CPGEM...in response to your announcement last night...Good Luck!! :)
My bed is calling me...I hope everyone has a good day...G'night!!
HI MO! Do you have the day off today...I hope...??
ReplyDeleteMy first car was a '66 Chrysler Newport...it was a great car, right up until it decided not to turn and hit a palm tree. Funny thing..there's a pic on MS of me with my bike..and I'm standing in front of the same car!! Shoulda stayed on the bike!! :D

ReplyDeleteOne of my boyfriends and I bowled on a Sunday night couples league and one Sunday, we watched The Jazz Singer with Neil Diamond before we went to bowl. When he sang Coming To America at the end, we got inspired! We bowled AWESOME that night...so that became OUR song! We watched the end of the Jazz Singer every week before bowling just to hear the song!
ReplyDelete15!!! Yipee..and Good Night!
ReplyDeleteOk...16...
ReplyDeleteMO: I think I saw "Jazz Singer" at least 15 times...
Really going now..
ZONA...yes, I have the day off! I have a full day planned of homework. I am taking an on-line class and TOTALLY behind! I need to catch up! But, guess what? I have all of next weekend OFF! YIPEEEEEEEEEE!!
ReplyDelete(unless I can go into the regular job for some overtime!)
have a good sleep and dream a lot of sweetness.
Thanks MO...I will! You have a good day..and next weekend off!!?? YA-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Scirish - Congrats on first.
ReplyDeleteGood morning from Tennessee!! I had a nice walk this morning and took a bunch of pictures. I will post them on MS.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Scirish!
Tinka: My dad LOVED the song this morning! Thanks, it took him down memory lane too!! It is a beautiful song, for sure.
What a beautiful lady you are and always have been (from the picture!).
Good morning Scirish, Zona, Mo, Carol and anyone who flies in later! Have a great day!

Good Morning Carol, Zona-my-Baby, and morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my little blog this morning.
Zona - I think I am going to join you and go back to my bed. For the first time since the time changed I could not get to sleep last night. It must have been the diet coke I had at 4:00. I think I can truthfully say I now look 100 years older than I did in that picture. Maybe a couple more hours of sleep will help. I will be back later. I don't even want to listen to my song this morning and I still love that song.
Be back when I feel more human. Thanks again Carol for setting my video.

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Bebbi - I wasn't sure anyone would remember the song. Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteMaureen - I will grab a Slim Fast, feed my babies and have a nap.
I will come back for a real cyber breakfast later. Love, Tinka
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteScrish got 1st again!
Tinka wonderful blog. I love that picture of you beside your beloved Nash.
I am kind of weird (let the jokes begin) my memories are triggered when I hear a song. I usually don't remember the name of the song or who sang it until it pops on the radio or TV.
First love songs, can't think of a one. Maybe if a song popped on it would trigger a memory. There was a song my first boyfriend played all the time, he was a jazz fan and had New York state of mind sung by Chick Chorea. It was beautiful and I have never been able to find that album.
I see a few of you have posted about your first cars. Mine was a gold and cream "69" Dodge Dart. I wish I had it back. It was a great little car. I say little but I could easily cram 6 friends in it and often did. Those are good memories.
Hope everyone is having and will have a wonderful day!
Happy Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteTinka - LOVE your blog!! and thank you for sharing your picture with us.
Scirish - congrats on FIRST..
cpgem -isn't is amazing how fast our hair grows!!

Back out to paint pots!
Good Morning Jigglin in jax - What pots are you painting? Are you getting ready for spring already?
ReplyDeleteZona - I love all "Neil Diamond songs". You must choose one for next Sundays' video. I am going to google "Only the Good Die Young". It sounds interesting.
I must get something done today. I spent too much time checking the blog yesterday.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else in the neighbourhood was raking leaves. Thank God I have a gardener or else I would have six inches of Oak leaves on my property. Now if I could just find another good cleaning lady or preferably man (Just for the eye candy) then I can get ready for winter and Christmas without breaking my back.
Have a great day all owls who drop by today. Don't forget to tell me which songs connect you with your "First Love". I want to see some meandering.

ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday, Owls!
ReplyDeleteNeighbourlady Tink...fun blog! Love the song! I am humming it as I type!!! And love the pic! Gorgeous! I can just imagine you driving over the Malahat in your cute little car! Since my one true love has been rather elusive, I don't have a song yet. But I am certain everyone has one true love..and mine is out there someplace! I do remember the fist kiss song...Bohemian Rhpasody..when the guitars came in, I startled and we clonked heads! Classy!!!
Scirish...congrats on first, second and third! Great way to start a Sunday!
Maureen...yay, the hardworking gal gets a day off and soon a weekend off! Woohoo! Well-deserved for sure!!!
Thanks for breakfast...porridge for me please! I love oatmeal on a damp and chilly morning!
Zona...still got Mooses at your house?
Tink...glad you feel better after you nap! This is a good hanging out and watching movies day...it's grey and wet out there!
ReplyDelete38
ReplyDelete39....my eternal age!!!
ReplyDelete40 for Tink!
ReplyDeleteVIG - Thanks for commenting on my drive down. You are the only one who knows what the "Malahat" is. It's a beautiful drive over a mountain that has Duncan on one side (where sits my little one room house) and Victoria on the other. The scenery is gorgeous but it is a very treacherous highway. I think there are more accidents on that Highway than any other in Canada. That's why I worry about you traveling it so often.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ clonking heads.
Yes, it's an inside day today. I am almost ready for Christmas movies. I think I may make my plum pudding today. The more weeks it has to ripen before Christmas the better. It's the same with the dark Christmas fruit cakes.
Maureen - I am ready for my breakfast. I will start with some of that lovely porridge with diced apples sprinkled with cinnamon, Then some scrambled eggs and bacon. I will top it off with angel food cake with berries. Of course I will have a cup of tea. That breakfast should last me all day. Off to have it. See you all later.
ReplyDeleteVIG - Thanks for 40.
44
ReplyDelete45
ReplyDeleteMaureen - I just checked and I noticed I mentioned partaking in your lovely breakfast twice and didn't even thank you once for assembling it. Am I bad? Sorry. Thanks for going to the trouble to feed us. Love, Tinka
ReplyDeleteTink...yup, the Malahat can get a bit tricky especially when it's fogged in. But when the sun is shining, there is nothing better, than driving and looking at that view of the Pacific River!!
ReplyDeletePlum pudding! And Christmas cake!! Yum! Christmas is coming and Vig is getting fat, please put a penny in the old man's hat!!!!
VIG -
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't got a penny,
A ha'penny will do,
If you haven't got a ha'penny,
Then God bless you.

ReplyDelete50
ReplyDeleteIs it unethical to grap "50" when it's your own blog? Just wondering?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first, Scirish!
ReplyDeleteTinka, I love your blog and the picture of you!! That's such a sweet song. You are so adorable in that picture. My first love song was when I was 13 and had my first "boyfriend." It was "I'd Love You to Want Me" by Lobo.
I immediately thought of Donny Osmond, too, Zona, as he sang Young Love on one of his albums.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Tinka, I believe anything goes when you're marching!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Tinkatia. I saw your photo standing next to your car and it reminded me of my Mom. My Mom has a similar photos in her knickers posed by a 57 Chevy. Now that car would be a Classic. You look very beautiful then and now.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young I used to sing this song "I'm Going To Marry Me Bill". I think I was 12. I grew up and dated two Bill's but did not want to marry either of them. LOL.
I can't recall any special songs but I do remember a boyfriend who would sing songs to me by Phil Collins. We both loved Phil Collins. Another boyfriend would sing C&W songs to me as we cruised down the highway. He was one of the guy's named Bill. :)
My first car was a 1975 Firebird. I had a sun roof installed on it and then had a friend paint it Saddle Brown with Emron paint with a lot of speckle in the paint.
scirish Congrats on getting here first today.
ReplyDeleteTinka I love that photo of you with your Nash! You are such a pretty lady.
I can't think of any songs that I associate with young love. Whenever I hear "A Thousand Stars in the Sky" by Kathy Young or "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals, I think of those slow dances we did at parties during Jr. High.
Custard says he was always thinking of me during all the years since we last saw each other 40 yrs ago. So when "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" by the Moody Blues came out in 1988, he immediately thought of me. We now think of it as "our" song.
Thanks for the breakfast Mo. That all looks so delicious that I'm going to taste all of it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day Owls.
WOW TINKA...This song, the year and the car bring back so many memories. We used to have dance parties at each other's houses with all the 50's songs and that is when I danced with my first steady boyfriend. My mother freaked out, because I was so young, until she could see it amounted to dance parties. and going to each other's houses after school and him giving us each a matching coin. Earth Angel and Book of Love are two biggies for me also.
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy, beautiful picture of you. I think anyone who is in your life is most fortunate, because it is obvious that you love and cherrish all those around you. Yes, even your nash. You have a glow about you, and that can only happen when one is not just beautiful on the outside, but beautiful on the inside. Thank you for the memories.
Maureen I forgot to thank you for the breakfast spread. How rude of me! Thank you very much. I think I will be good today and just have some oatmeal.
ReplyDeleteI think if Mr. Lynn D and I had a song now it would be "Baby Got Back"! LMAO
ReplyDelete60
ReplyDeleteMo: I grabbed a Slimfast this morning! Thanks for thinking of me! :) I hope everyone is having a great day!
ReplyDeleteLani - What a beautiful compliment. There are so many owls saying nice things, I think I will respond on myspace. I don't want to be blog hog on The Sabbath. Lol
ReplyDeleteI will check back this afternoon. Have a great day all owls everywhere.
Happy Sunday Everyone!
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog Tinka! And you sure look adorable next to your Nash!
For my husband and I the song was "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. Everytime I hear it now it brings back lots of great memories.
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. I'm feeling a bit under the weather, so I think I will take a short nap, and hopefully this darn headache will go away.
Peace and Love to All,
Donna Jean
MAUREEN, You make the fluffiest scrambled eggs I have ever eaten. Thank you. Also, May I ask what on line class you are taking?
ReplyDeleteJAX, I did see on the news last night that the storm hit Cuba and wasn't going to hit Florida.
I just had another memory come back to me. My 1st boyfriend taught me how to kiss, or at least he thought he did. He said open your mouth and close your teeth. As you can imagine, that didn't work out well at all. That is the one and only kiss I remember with him.
Lani, "open your mouth and close your teeth?" I'm sorry but I just picture you looking like Mr. Ed.
ReplyDeleteLani LMAO at those instructions for your first kiss! It sounds like you'd both be grimacing!
ReplyDeleteLynnD Does that song give us a hint as to your favorite position in the bedroom? LMAO!!!!
Sandie ROFLMAO @ Mr. Ed!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday hooters!
ReplyDeleteSandie I am cracking up at your Mr. Ed comment! That is sooo funny! Good one!!!
I think that is a good quote for the day!
Congrats to Scirish for being 1st today!
My first car was a '69 Camaro, a real hot rod. A fun car that was trouble! haha.
Can't think of a particular song, now I have the Mr. Ed theme and can't shake it!
Carol, why is your SSO on "the list"??
BBL.
Oops, forgot to tell Tinka that I love the picture of you next to your car!
ReplyDeleteEBJ Congrats on 69! Just when you were writing about your '69 Camaro, too!
ReplyDeleteSANDIE, I am still laughing over Mr. Ed. Now instead of Young Love playing over and over in my head I too have Mr. Ed theme running around in there.
ReplyDeleteThis may be a mood wrecker and I don't know why this one popped in, but here goes. In the 6th grade one of my school mates decided to demonstrate how to use kotex in the middle of the school yard (with her clothes on). It is something I will never forget. This girl, who is now obviously grown up, lives in Pacifica and I see her all the times and she is a rather famous artist locally, but she doesn't remember me. I have never gone over to her to say I remember from school because all I can see is the kotex demonstration and I could never say anything about it to her for fear of embarrassment. I don't know why I am telling you this, but it has taken too long to type to end up erasing it.
J/SLIN, thanks, where did you find a picture of my 1st boyfriend?
ReplyDeleteSlani Does her first name start with a "J"?
ReplyDeleteNo SLIN, the initials are SDG
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st Scirish!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog and video Tinka! Loved the picture!
Good evening/afternoon Carol, Zona, Maureen, Bebbi, Lynn D, Mek, Jax, Vig, Sandie, Dreama, Just Lin, Donna Jean, Lani and EBJ.
Like Vig, I'm still waiting around for that first love, so I don't have a song. I do remember "Stairway to Heaven" being the last slow song of dances at school.
We both lived in San Francisco at the time.
ReplyDeleteAll of us do such a good job of sending each other the weather we ask for, so now we need to send SHIRLEY AND VIG their true loves. I hope I didn't leave anyone out.
ReplyDelete79
ReplyDelete80
ReplyDeleteI am just up from my second nap of the day. Boy I have come a long way from the days of that picture.
ReplyDeleteI am having such fun reading all your stories.
Lani - I think Shirley's and VIG's true love are just behind the nearest tree. We just can't see them yet. I think you should get a prize for the most romantic story - the demonstration of Kotex in the school yard. LOL
You owls crack me up, everyone of you.
The song "Philadelphia Freedom" reminds me of summers at the Resevoir, swimming with friends. Also, "Sunshine on my shoulders" (not sure if that is the title) takes me back too.
ReplyDeleteI am leaving my Dad's house soon. I will be back later back on my own computer!
ReplyDeleteIteach: I walked 11,228 steps today. It hopefully made up some for yesterday. That was my worst day in a long long time! I hope that you are doing well again with the food and the steps. :)
Take care all and have a great evening.
Stick a fork in me and call me done!
ReplyDeleteI have been cleaning for 3 hours and I have just made a dent. Can't do anymore.
Do you guys remember 50 ways to leave your lover??? I remember the summer it played it was my favorite song. I think I was about 15 and I did not even have a lover! LOL
Oh and everytime I hit standby on the computer I hear Stand by Your Man in my head. Hate that song!
Ok I am a little goofy from breathing bleach fumes.
Lani that story cracked me up!!! I know there is joke in there about her being an artist now but my mind is not moving quick enough today!
WOW I wasn't even aware that I got the 69 today!
ReplyDeleteStill thinking about Mr. Ed...
Hi Everyone...
ReplyDeleteFly by... the time is almost here, he is on his way, I type this as I shiver...
Vincent just called me, and told be to stay strong.. He is thinking of stopping by, I told him no pressure if he wants to we will be here... He also told me to make a list of emergency topics just in case there is awkward lull of silence.. He cracks me up...
justlin no, no hint it just means my ass gets bigger every year and Mr. Lynn D still loves me! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot...
ReplyDeleteMy songs that remind me of my first loves...
"This Magic Moment"... and there is another one and I can't remember the name.. I have to think...
Lani:
ReplyDeleteIt is so weird how we remember the strangest and oddest things...
Glad you shared your story :O)
Btw...
ReplyDeleteBought Pinks CD Funhouse, and I can't stop listening to it.....
Carol - Good Luck today. My fingers are crossed for you today. Maybe a prayer might work better. Give us a report later.
ReplyDeleteTinka:
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have said so many prayers over my brother, but you are right more prayers will never hurt...
Maureen - Now I really know I was tired this morning. My post at 7:09 PDT was "Good Morning Carol, Zona-my-Baby, and morning." That last morning was supposed to be "Maureen". I didn't leave you out on purpose especially since you had made such a lovely breakfast. I feel great now and I am sure your breakfast (plus two naps) had something to do with it. I am bubbling with energy and don't know what to do first. I haven't felt this way for a long time. I wonder how long it will last? Maybe only 20 minutes but that's a start eh?
ReplyDeleteIs anyone up to marching to 100? I don't think I should use my new found energy to do that. I will check back later and see who made the march.
ReplyDelete95 I like 95.
ReplyDelete96?
ReplyDeleteCarol Maybe the evening will go great! :)
ReplyDelete98
ReplyDelete99
ReplyDelete100 :)
ReplyDeleteLYNN, at work we used to sing Stand by Your Man, only we changed the words. We even sang it with a country western accent. Our versions were a lot more realistic.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be some perks for house cleaning , such as a cheap Clorox high.
CAROL, We are re all there with you.
TINK, I can hardly wait for you to cook us Christmas dinner. I think if VIG & SHIRLEY look up in the trees they will see their true loves.
Now I have to go and clean out the refrigerator and swamp the bird cages.
Just_Lin - Congrats on 100.
ReplyDelete"I know you are out there somewhere" by Moody Blue is a great "Our Song".
Back to work. The time is flying by.
You guys are cracking me up! Lani, a kotex demonstration??
ReplyDeleteoooh, the Mr. Ed theme is playing in my head, too . . . who started that?? ;)
Carol, I'm dying to hear about this girlfriend! Let's just hope they don't do the "Mr. Ed" kiss in front of you! Ewwww ...
Hey, Carol! Maybe if there's a lull in the conversation you could do the kotex demonstration!!
ReplyDeleteDo any of these songs ring any bells?
ReplyDeleteI Just Called To Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder
Are You Lonesome Tonight - Elvis
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack
My Girl - The Temptations
Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - Frankie Vallie
Lady - Kenny Rogers
Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill
Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce
When I Need You - Leo Sayer
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
I love all those songs, Shirley!
ReplyDeleteSANDIE, LMAO at your comments re: Kotex demo and Mr. Ed kiss. It just might break up the evening real fast. I am still laughing. All I can say is thank goodness tampax hadn't been invented yet.
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY, I remember all of them. Music always takes me back to something. I am very nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking that we should set up an advent calendar on the blog. Do you think it would be fun?
ReplyDeleteThe first one on the blog each day could input.
Shirley - I love all those songs. Each one has a memory attached to it. That's a whole other blog. Are these favourites of yours too?
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't very nice to leave out anyone who is Jewish. We could have a menorah also.
ReplyDeleteOMFG Lani, back then the Kotex pads had those long "things" on each end, and you had to hook them into the ends of the belt.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget those, and how uncomfortable they were.
Did your friend at school do the demo with the belt??
EBJ, Yes! I remember the ones with the METAL to hook into. I remember sitting down at my desk in school and flying back in pain because the metal dug into my tail bone. I also remember when I wore a straight skirt and the pad moved and started to stick out in the back underneath my skirt.
ReplyDeleteNow all of this reminds me of another female story. When tampax came out a friend of mine tried one. She inserted it and then we went for a walk and she said this is really great. She said it was so comfortable. She couldn't feel a thing. When we went back to her house she went into the bathroom and discovered the tampax floating in the toilet. lmao
Oh yeah, the metal thingy that you hooked the end of the pad into. How uncomfortable those were.
ReplyDeleteRemember when the pads with the adhesive first came out?
I think they used super glue, cause I remember more than once ripping the crotch out of a pair of undies.
I learned quickly never to use a new, or good pair of undies with a stick-on pad!
OMG, Lani!! That's so funny!
ReplyDeleteYes Tinka I do like some of these songs. I thought they might bring back memories for other people. How about these songs?
ReplyDeleteAgainst All Odds - Phil Collins
All Of Me - Louis Armstrong
Always On My Mind - Elvis Presley/Willie Nelson
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? - Elton John
Do You Remember When We Met? - Honeydrippers
I Can't Smile Without You - Barry Manilow
I Honestly Love You - Olivia Newton John
I'll Never Love This Way Again - Dionne Warwick
It Had To Be You - Frank Sinatra
Lost In Love - Air Supply
Our Love Is Here To Stay - Nat King Cole
When A Man Loves A Woman - Percy Sledge
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - Frank Sinatra
Lani I remember my mum wore those things. Luckily I never had to.
ReplyDeleteOK I'm off to watch "Amazing Race". BBL.
EBJ,Were they industrial strength kotex? Did you find that the crotchless underwear came in handy?
ReplyDeleteI am still laughing!
It's a good thing thongs weren't worn back then! You'd have two strings, by cracky.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone could write a menstrual blog. We could have the menstrual monologues.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Lani! I think it should be you though . . . since you saw the demonstration and all . . .
ReplyDeleteBy CRACKY alright.
ReplyDeleteSANDIE, you are right. I guess I would be considered the professional since I actually attended a kotex seminar.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Owls. You are all cracking me up tonight. I have been at a Sorority 'something' all day and I am glad to finally be home reading about all your songs.
ReplyDeleteLani, I loved the description of your kotex seminar. It definitely makes you a pro.
Sandie, LOL @ Mr. Ed.
A big Howdy to all the Owls. You have been very busy today.
125
ReplyDeleteShirley - I love all Elvis and Elton John songs. I loved your first list the best.
ReplyDeleteTinka, Your blog brought back many happy memories. My Hubby and I met a a dance where Jimmy Clanton was singing and he used to sing Venus in Blue Jeans to me. I'm not sure we considered it 'our' song though.
ReplyDeleteMy Hubby was also a big Country music fan and one of his favorite songs was Johnny Cash's Walk the Line. However he changed the words to:
I keep my pants up with a piece of twine, because you're mine, come pull the twine
Maybe that was our song
Tinka, you are one hot chick standing next to your Nash.
Good to see you SACBARB, I missed seeing you and a few other owls on the blog.
ReplyDeleteBebbi, I listen to an oldies station and Philadelphia Freedom was playing while I was on my way home. People were staring at me from the next car because I was singing and rocking out at the stop light. I love to do that and then I wave at people who stare.
ReplyDeleteSACBARB aka TWINE PULLER, great song version, great husband. Very clever.
ReplyDeleteI think I better go feed the cat and cook dinner.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lani, it's nice to know I was missed. I tried to post before I left but my computer was acting up and I didn't have time to mess with it. I'm looking forward to your blog on the Menstrual Monologues.
ReplyDeleteLani, My Hubby was always changing words to songs...some are not for public 'consumption'. I only wish I could remember them all.
ReplyDeleteHere Sandie haha!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_PZPpWTRTU
Lani.. thanks for your concern and ideas for we single ones finding true love. I just went for a walk with my head up...didn't find anybody up there in the trees...but did fall in a hole. The one wasn't there either. Oh well, that will happen when it is meant to happen...but I'll be checking out a lot of tress now!
ReplyDeleteTink...here's a cute verse of Bing Cosby version of the Christmas is Coming song....
Christmas is a coming, the egg's in the nog.
Please give a friendly man a friendly little dog.
If you haven't got a friendly dog, a friendly cat will do,
If you haven't got a friendly cat may God bless you!
VIG, That reminds me of when I was young and walking down the street and saw a car full of cute boys and didn't pay attention to were I was walking. I stepped into a hole and twisted my ankle and a policeman standing near by looked at me and said "Was that really necessary?" I was so embarrassed. Funny how we remember certain small little things.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I thought I would lie down and haver a "refreshing" nap like Tinka seems to be able to do and, instead, I slept for 3 hours and woke up feeling like I've been on drugs. And not the good kind, either. Then I got caught up on the blog comments and ROFLMAO!!!! You ladies have been very, very busy, what with all Kotex demonstrations and everything.
ReplyDeleteLani "Was that really necessary?" Bwahahahaha!!!!
Sacbarb: I love to do that too. Sometimes I think it drives people crazy to see someone happy and singing away! :)
ReplyDeleteI made it safely home back to Looooooeeeeeeville.
My dad was good! I did two mystery shops down there last night and he had a Filet o Fish and sonic Onion rings..he ate pretty good. He said it just made him feel better that we came. My stepmom is out of the nursing home and back in the house temporarily. ... He sure gobbled down those Sonic onion rings pretty hardily last night for someone that didn't eat for 4 days and was in ER twice! :)
I hope everyone is watching their shows and having a nice Sunday night.
SacBarb - Thank you for your sweet words. I love Johnny Cash too.
ReplyDeleteVIG - Where did you hear the Bing Crosby song? I really think it's cute.
Just_Lin - I learned to power nap when I started going on cruises. Sometimes just 15 minutes can 'brighten one up'. If you try it again set your clock for an hour so you won't go into too deep of a sleep. Otherwise you just end up with a sleep 'hangover'. I am not kidding you, power sleeps take practice and I have had a lot of practice these last 10 years. LOL

ReplyDeleteLife is good...

:O)
Carol - I am glad you had a good time. I was thinking about you today and wondering how you were doing.
ReplyDeleteTinka- Frank Sintra's song "I've got you under my skin" is our song.
ReplyDeleteCarol good to hear!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, EBJ! Sadly, I knew all the words. LOL!!
ReplyDeleteCarol, so glad your dinner went well!
Okay, no more horsin' around. I'm going to bed.
Goodnight owls!
Oops, forgot to say hey sacbarb--I loved your husband's version of that song!
ReplyDeleteWell, no real songs connect me to my first love either. Since he was straight, and not in love with me, there was really no context for a "shared song".
ReplyDeleteThere was no context for anything, really, except heartbreak for me.
Ahhh, the exquisite torture that is unrequited love! I think that's a separate blog topic, though.
SacBarb: You totally cracked me up! That's right up there with "The First Time Ever I Sat on Your Face"!!
ReplyDeleteIteach - I bet Zona loves that song too.
ReplyDeleteBebbi - I am glad you made it safely back home.
Good Night Sandie - I am going to bed too.
Good Night to All Little Owls - Hope you have a good sleep.
Thanks for commenting on my blog. Signing out. Love, Tinka

ReplyDeleteWhabbear - I just saw your name as I was closing up. Sorry I didn't see you and sorry you don't have a treasured love song. As you said-
ReplyDelete"Ahhh, the exquisite torture that is unrequited love! I think that's a separate blog topic, though."
I look forward to that blog when you get it written.
Good Night my Friend.
TINKA: Here are the lyrics to "Only the Good Die Young". If my mom and dad knew I was dating someone that called this "our song"...they would have surely proven to me that only the good die young... ;)
ReplyDelete* * * *
Come out Virginia, don't let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
Aw But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
Well, They showed you a statue, told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
But they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done.....
Only the good die young
That's what i said
Only the good die young
You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain't too pretty we ain't too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
Aw But that never hurt no one
So come on Virginia show me a sign
Send up a signal I'll throw you the line
The stained-glass curtain you're hiding behind
Never lets in the sun
Darlin' only the good die young
I tell ya
Only the good die young
You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new soul
Mmmm, And a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn't give you quite enough information
You didn't count on me
When you were counting on your rosary
They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The Sinners are much more fun...
You know that only the good die young
Oh baby
I tell ya
Only the good die young
You say your mother told you all that I could give you was a reputation
Aww She never cared for me
But did she ever say a prayer for me? oh woah woah
Come out come out come out virgina don't let me wait,
You catholic girls start much too late
Sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one,
You know that only the good die young
I'm telling you baby
You know that only the good die young
Only the good die young
