A Country Christmas Eve

Send your own ElfYourself eCards

Twas the night before Christmas, and all thru the barn,
not a creature was stirring, not even mouse,
however we heard, a foot stomping mess,
low and behold its Mek, cpgem8, and JodiHo!
The three country elves

The stockings were hung all thru the barn,
for all the owlettes and their preppy friends.
As the owlettes slept all thru the night,
the three country elves, danced with delight

Up on the roof, a noise could be heard, as jolly old
St Nick arrived with his nerds.
As he called them by name and nourished
each one, the three country elves deepened their steps.
As he slid down the hayshoot with his flute,
the dancing of the country elves continued with tribute

He spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
filling the stockings with a smirk
as he turned to the country elves to bid them good night,
the country elves where so bright

To the country elves surprise the stockings were full
with a fistful of yellow that looked like jello
As the sleigh took flight, the country elves looked on
and boogied all thru the night....

Happy Christmas to all and enjoy the "yellow" sunlight!

  11. Good Morning Hooters!
    Congrats Tina

OMG that was so funny!! I love the way you girls dance!! I have made one of those with Pepper, Mr. Goldie and I and sent it out. Lots of laughs.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone. We are going to brave the snow and try to go to my brothers today. Its an hour away. He called last night and said to pack a bag, we may be spending the night with the forecasted winds and blowing tonight. Oy
He's a supervisor for the highway dept so they have this nifty radar shit and get on the spot reports from the weather people. Only problem with all of this is that he won't be able to join us- he will be on call. But we get to see the nephews and my mom who is coming home with us.

Anyway, off to take my shower and get ready to go deliver meals on wheels.

SWAK and HUGS to all of you!

  13. Mr. Lynn D and I are getting ready in a bit to attempt a trip out of our driveway and try to get Christmas dinner and few last minute items. Goldie we are doing our version of meal on wheels for us! LOL Be safe out there!

Mary from area 51: My palms were sweating just reading your post from yesterday! Yarggggh I say next time keep the gray hair! Check that dye job in a few days I bet it is about gone from your harrowing trip. LOL

Shirley do you think your neighbors were paying you back for the Owls Christmas party? Loved your rant but I am really glad you don't own a shot gun!

Thank you all for your wonderful Christmas wishes,Anniversary wishes on MS and here in the blog. I went in the other day and checked MS and had numerous pop ups! I had to shut my computer down clear all of the history etc... So If I don't check it for awhile you will know why!

I also agree with all of the right on the money comments about Baby Ritchie! LOL

One more cup of coffee then it is the shower for this stinky owl.

  18. MEK I promise not to take quick intakes of breath, stomp on my pretend brake or squeal while Mr. Lynn D is driving! These actions tend to make him a little nuts and cranky!

It is snowing north of us. Right now we have rain and dripping and it is 35 degrees. Wind is picking up. I hope that this continues and we don't catch any of the snow!

  19. Donna(Ohio) asked me to relate this message about her Father. He is having open heart surgery today.

    From Donna:
If you wouldn't mind mentioning my dad over there, I'd sure appreciate it. He could use all the prayers he can get. That man has been sick for so long. It breaks my heart to see him so weak and in pain. It kills me to see my mom so worried and tired too.

This heart problem is totally new though. It just came out of nowhere! So strange.

I am definitely counting my blessings tonight though. We had freezing rains and the roads are a sheet of ice. Coming home from the hospital was AWFUL! AND SCARY AS HELL! I'm lucky to have made it home alive!
    Me again:
She has her hands full, so please keep her in your thoughts as we celebrate this week. She didn't want to bring us down , but we "nesters" are a good and caring group and I thought you would like to know about "one of our own".

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just catching up on some blogs and had to share my story as a couple of us seem to be having issues with water....

I had new seamless gutters installed about a week before our snow deluge..The reason for this was the old ones leaked at the seams...The new ones however leak EVERYWHERE. I called the company that installed them and they came out and supposedly fixed the "drip edge". Yesterday both of my storm doors were frozen shut...When SO came home he was pulling the outside and I was kicking and pushing on the inside and thankfully we finally got it open...SO said it was way too cold to make an igloo to sleep in...Today there is water dripping on the INSIDE of one of my front windows. I stuffed a towel in the window to catch the drips but it really does not go with my holiday decor....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Carol. I loved the video. You did a great job. I am not that good at trimming around peoples heads on jib/jab. I was impressed with all the dancing. I knew Tinaho was a dancing hottie from her ho ho experiences, But I was surprised that you and MEK had "those moves" lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. scirish lol@ "does not go with my Holiday decor"!!

  23. TinaHO!

You are becoming the number 1 and number 69 Queen..

    Congrats!

  24. My feet are killing me from dancing all nite.. JodiHo and Mek, kept shoving me out of the way. I really had to the two step very quickly to get some air time.. And my plantars wart is now throbing, those elf shoes are a killer..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I want to thank Mek and Jodiho for going along with me for the "ride".

I thought of this late last nite, and called them.. Actually I saw JodiHo's lite on and stalked her till she finally answered me.. I got really good at stalking since I have been stalking Mo.

Mek, I had to stalk as well, poor Mr. Mek, he is such a good sport, I had to crop him out of a picture, he did not mind tho, as I don't think he really wanted to be a "country elf". So, many thanks to Mr. Mek as well, for putting up with my phone calls..

  26. Great funny blog, Carol, loved it! What a fun way to start another snowed-in day!

  27. Mary thank you for posting about Donna's Dad. Donna sending prayers your way.

Scrishy yikes! I wondered about that gutter system. Nope now not doing it!

Has anyone heard from Tinka? She did not post yesterday and I am a bit concerned.

    Carol I loved the elves!

  28. I hope you all enjoy the yellow that looks like jello, that Santa left you, as you all deserve it!

  31. Good afternoon/morning Goldie, Scirish, Mary, Carol and Iteach.

Lynn D I made a comment on one of Tinka's pictures of her little granddaughter last night and she messaged me back so I think she is ok. Although I think BC is getting more snow today.

We are still having power issues. It keeps going off for a few seconds and coming back on which isn't good. I lost internet for about an hour this morning too.

Sorry about your dripping issues Scirish. When I first moved into my apartment my kitchen window leaked everytime it rained. I spent a lot of time wringing out towels.

Donna I hope everything goes well for your father today. Extra ((((HUGS)))) to you and your family.

If I don't get another chance I want, for all who are celebrating, to wish you a very Merry Christmas. Remember you don't have to eat everything in one sitting. You can save some for the next day! Lol!

  32. Good Morning and Happy Christmas Eve everyone.

Tina - You are a hoot!!!!

Lynn - Thanks for noticing that I wasn't in the nest yesterday. I was so worried about the weather that I could not settle down at the computer. I was waiting to see what would happen today. Well, it snowed all night and turned to rain in the city so I guess Cara and family will get here. I don't know about the ferry that will bring my other daughter home. I just heard from my son that he definitely will not be down with the baby because they have closed the Highway. I am trying hard to conceal my disappointment. Maybe the road will open by tomorrow to get here for dinner. I was feeling so sad and then I read Donna's post and saw what she is dealing with. My problem is minor compared to that.

Donna - I will pray for your dad today. I feel so sorry for you and your family.

I won't name all of you but I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I probably won't be on until tomorrow. I made my Christmas bread and now I must make my famous buns. I love you all. Tinka

  34. Merry Christmas Eve!!

    Tina, congrats on your 3rd 69th 1st!

Carol, Jodi and MEK, you ladies can dance!! That was so cute. I love those things!

Good morning, LynnD, be careful out there!!

Goldie, have a wonderful time with your family!!

Scirish, water inside your windows? That doesn't sound good. I hope it gets fixed soon!

Shirley, I'm glad your partying neighbors finally calmed down!

iteach, it's a good day to be snowed in, right?

Mary, thanks for the update on Donna. No time is a good time but it really stinks to have all this happen during the holidays.

Donna, I'll pray for your Dad today.

I have so much to do today. I'm so mad at myself, I ran out of wrapping paper! What a dork! I knew I would forget something. Now I have to go brave the crowds.

    Merry Christmas!!

  35. Hi Tinka! I'm so sorry your son won't make it over with the baby. Boy, this weather is making for a difficult holiday.

I hope all owls and their families have safe travels.

  36. Merry Christmas Eve and Happy day 4 of Hanukkah, Feliz Navidad...and let's see, Kwanzaa's not until Friday so I'm good there. Does anyone here celebrate Festivus? That was yesterday, so if you do, Happy Belated Festivus. To everyone else I say either, 'Happy Holidays' or 'Bah! Humbug', depending on your persuasion.

Okay, enuf of that PC stuff. No matter what today is, I'm working because although the 24th of December is typically a company holiday, the powers decided to make Friday the holiday so only the fools who didn't want to take PTO (or in my case, aren't eligible) are here in the office. Of course most of aforementioned POWERS have taken the day off. Maybe we'll get to go home early, with pay but unless everyone goes home, YH has to stay. When everyone was sent home on September 11, 2001, we had to stay for the same reason. That's just the way it is with my hubby's line of work. On the bright side, it means he has a fairly secure job. On the down side, it means we were late to my father's funeral because he was working up to the last minute.

Between working, traveling, and being sick, I am not done with my Christmas shopping and will be running around like a maniac on my (longer-than-usual) lunch break trying to find something to put under the tree for the boys.

Right after Thanksgiving I bought stocking stuffers but guess what? Can't find them. Don't know if I hid them and my menopausal brain forgot where or if those nasty elves that come and mess up my house every night while I'm asleep hid them. Whatever...hopefully I'll find some doo-dads on the lunch run.

I'm happy to say my son that moved to TX in September will be here tonight thru the weekend and my stepson, who was forced to spend Christmas with his mom until age 18 per divorce agreement and felt obligated to spend years 19, 20, and 21 with her has decided to spend this Christmas with us.

It figures the one year I can't get my !@%# together, we have kids at home. There's been no baking & very little holiday decorating (took me three days to decorate the tree & the boxes are still in the front living room waiting to be hauled to the garage). Last night I felt well enough to go to Union Square and the wharf to see the Christmas decorations with some friends and it was eerily dead. Scares me to think what this holiday season is doing to our economy.

On the bright side, my DIL who is a manager at Walmart said it's been busier than ever this year so maybe she'll get a bonus in 2009.

Anyways, here's wishing everyone a happy and healthy Christmas season.

Barb, I hope your son makes it home.

    Prayers for Donna's dad.

Missing all of y'all and hoping I have time and feel up to being on the computer while I'm off the next four days.

Oh yeah, I wanted to say thanks to everyone who sent me those lovely Christmas cards. It's been really cool to come home to cards mixed in with the bills and junk mail. Makes getting the mail worth it again, lol!

PS...I should have much more free time after the first of the year since I'll be officially laid off from my temp job for the first time since 2004. Company is making cut backs...all temps are being laid off and there will be no pay raises or bonuses in 2009 but at least YH still has a job!

  37. Sandie, since I have no gifts purchased, I have tons of wrapping paper. Wish I could send it to you through cyberspace, lol!

Even better, you could buy gifts for me to give out while you're braving the crowds....lol!

    ReplyDelete
  38. oh geeeezzzzzzzzz!!!

I forgot to mention how much I loved the elves. Who knew our leader could do a cartwheel?

Okay, I probably should try to look like I'm doing some work, ha! I'm just not in the mood to even pretend today. I guess they could fire me but knowing my last day is just three business days away, it doesn't seem like much of a threat. Hmmmmm, I never thought I would be THIS person.

I'm truly looking forward to having the time off and I know they'll call me in from time to time to cover for the receptionist. It just kind of sucks to have to work through the holidays, ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lynndeeee...I really don't think it's the gutter system itself, I think the guys that were here put it up wrong. Of course, the manager guy doesn't want to admit that! He will be here Sat AM and I believe there will be a WAR!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Donna...So sorry to hear about your Dad having to have surgery. Prayers to him and ((hugs)) to you and your family

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh and I meant to mention (for Tinka) that we met a nice couple from Vancouver while riding the cable car last night. They said they were lucky to get out before the snow hit.

    ReplyDelete
  42. GUTTER UPDATE!!

Now it's leaking through the front doorsill into the basement on to a box of sticky tiles that were waiting to be put down in the Rec (or should I say WRECK?) room...

    ReplyDelete
  43. oh scirishy, thinking of big buckets, industrial size mops, and lots of old towels for your gutter problems. yikes!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I wanted to mention, today my oldest son is having a birthday. 29 years ago today I woke up in a puddle and thought I had wet the bed but my water broke. My SIL (now-ex hubby was working) insiseted I have breakfast and a smoke and open all my Christmas presents before going to the hospital. At 10am I finally begged her to take me because I was getting nervous. Couldn't feel contractions because my back labor was too bad. Arrived at the hospital at 11am, he was born at 2:12pm.

    Happy 29th birthday to Jack!!

  45. ROFLMAO@the dancing MEK, Jodi, and Carol!

A real old fashioned Christmas ho-down!

    Er, Hoe down. Sorry.

Caryn: I love your newsy updates! Leave work early if you can... after all... the mice are away!

Mary: Thanks for giving us an update on Hartldo! I'm crossing my fingers everything goes all right today with her Dad.

We had an incredible Christmas caroling party here at my sister's place last night. I was in tears while my cousin soloed "Away in a Manger" while my Mom played the piano. Singing carols is a tradition in my family going back to childhood, and every year it gets more precious!

And today it's off to my brother-in-law's Mom's place for traditional Christmas dinner.

Hope you all have a safe and fun Christmas Eve. A special thanks to VIG and Zina... on behalf of Tink!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scirish, I would lend you some towels, but I used mine all up yesterday when the waterbed leaked.

My two year old just threw all the clean clothes that were in the laundry basket down the chute, because she thought they were dirty. lol :0

Outtune, so sorry about your job! That bites

  47. CAROL - Oh, my freakin' hell!!! I knew this was going to post, but I'm still ROFLMAO!!! I hope I didn't poke anyone's eye out with that damn shimmy. MEK....you are a smooth operator, and CAROL that was one hell of a cartwheel!!! Thanks for including me in your little HOdown!!! I'm honored you thought of me. :O) :O) :O) :O)

TINA - Sorry I interrupted the movie!! lol @ 69 and first!!!

Waving a wing at everyone...need to go pick up a few stocking stuffers and get ready to go to the in-laws!!!

  48. Happy Christmas Eve day Owls.

Carol, I knew we had talented Owls, but you outdid yourself with this video and your version of the Night Before Christmas. And you, MEK, and Jodi should audition for DWTS. You all made me smile.

I hope everyone has a good day. I am rushing out to the gross-ry store and when I get home I have to start the pasta sauce for the linguine and big fish dinner. I probably won't get back here today. So Happy Holiday and lots of love to you all.

  49. One more thing.

Donna, healing prayers going up for your Dad and you too.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good Morning/Afternoon. TINA: Do we have to shoot you for staying up all night again?

DONNA: I hope your dad does well with his surgery today. Sending out positvie thoughts to you.

CAROL, MEK AND JODI: What great dancers you all are..who would have known? Now I did know about MEK'S dancing as she did it on a table or two when she was visiting me this summer. I guess I can mention it now that you have all seen how great she can kick. I think all three of you should go on DWTS. I know all the owls would vote for all of you. I love your matching socks...very stylish.
CAROL, I didn't realize you were a cartwheeling gal and JODI..WOW..you sure were shaking the "girls".

TINK: I am smelling your famous buns in Colorado and it is making me starving.

I want to send out good thoughts to those of you with water issues, snow issues and anything else that is weighing on your minds.

I am getting ready to pack up for church, son's house and daughter's house. I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas for those who celebrate and happy holidays to everyone. I might peak in tonight from Tammy's house after I fill stockings!

    ReplyDelete
  51. SACBARBl Looks like we are typing and thinking the same about DWTS.

JODI: Isn't this the time of year you eat some different kind of fish? I am thinking back to last year.

    ReplyDelete
  52. DIANNE - Yes.....it's time for the annual Lutefisk dinner!!! After almost 21 years celebrating with MR. JODI's family, I kinda like the stuff!!! All you have to do is pour on extra butter, salt and pepper!!! Funny, my Grandma had Lutefisk when I was growing up, but in some families forcing kids to try it is considered a form of child abuse!!! lol!!!

  53. DONNA JO - Sending healing thoughts and prayers that your father's surgery goes well. ((((HUGS)))) from WESconsin 4 U!!!

    Jodi Your shimmy was great!

Hartldo I'm so sorry about your dad and will be sending loving, healing thoughts his way.

Tina Congrats again. Have you given up sleeping?

outatuune I hope you are at least having a little fun at work and that you are feeling well enough to enjoy tomorrow.

scirish My neighbor got seamless gutters and they work great so I'm thinking it was the installation that is the problem. I was hoping to get some, too, as the dripping at the seam drives me nuts!

  57. The fish is fried, and I stink!
Not only do I stink, but the house stinks of every kind of fish you can imagine. Well not Lutefish :O)

  60. Happy Christmas Eve and Fourth Night of Hanukah, and Happy Wednesday to Everyone!

CAROL~ LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jib Jab of you, Hodi and MEK! Very cute!!! My daughters did one last year and it was hilarious!

I just wanted to pop in briefly and wish all of you a wonderful Holiday, whichever way (or no way) you all Celebrate!

It is wet and cold here in Santa Rosa, and I am loving every bit of it!

Laurie and I and Olive are all curled up in sweats (I got Miss Olive a very cute purple "ski" sweater, she looks so cute in it) and blankies and just enjoying being together and watching movies, and soaps and eating our famous Sonoma County Crab!(although I think this year, we are getting Crab from Humboldt County and Oregon)

No one does Crab any better than the West Coast! Melt a little butter, add some garlic, have a crusty loaf of Sourdough handy, maybe some Linguini with EVOO and more garlic, a nice Butter Lettuce salad with avocados, DELICIOUS, ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!!

I sincerely hope that everyone got to their destinations safely, that the relatives you are waiting for to arrive get there soon, and then you can all settle down for a wonderful evening!

May you all stay warm and cozy, and enjoy your family and friends this day and tomorrow!

I want to thank all of you that sent me such beautiful cards!!! I love them all!

I procrastinated again, (head hung in shame) so mine are in the mail on Friday to you all!

I haven't had a chance to read comments today, so forgive me for not doing a personal "HI" to everyone, but know that each and everyone of you are in my thoughts.

It has been a tough year for so many of us. Serious illnesses and surgeries for many of us, or our loved ones. Friends and family have passed away. Sad and stressfull times do befall us all.

On the other hand, we welcomed new Owls into the nest, babies were born, and we had many, many, laughs, hijinks (Shirley??)parties, food and just plain joy!

My sincere wish for each and every one of my wonderful friends here on the Nest, is for a this New Year, 2009, filled with Peace, Joy and Happiness for you and your family and friends, and also for all the little fur babies out there!

With loads of love from our home to yours,

Donna Jean, Laurie Elizabeth, and Miss Olive

PS: Oh BTW Laurie has now named Olive, "Olive Elizabeth" LOL!!! Now when I am mad at Olive I use the middle name. It sure gets her attention!

Off now to read the comments XOXOXO

  61. Oh my goodness, Carol, I laughed so hard at you three dancing elf's. So funny.

Donna~ I'm sending your Dad healing prayers, and prayers of comfort to your family. This is a very difficult time, and as someone said earlier, our nest is very loving and supportive. We're all here.

We start our Christmas Eve celebrating in a few hours with church and then the waiting begins for Santa.

I wish each and everyone of you peace, joy, good health, and love during this most Holy Season as we receive the Miracle of Christmas.

    Merry Christmas, my Owl friends.

  62. Whew I made it home! It was rough going this morning and Mr. Lynn D and I had just left our driveway and had our first fight of the day! LOL

We are home and it is pouring rain! It is about 37 degrees right now.

I just wanted to check on all of my owls before I start wrapping stuff! Bless you all I will try to be back later.

I may not be sober because I promised myself a few Rum and Cokes after the wrapping is done!

Tinka so glad you checked in and I always love to see Ronnie post!

  66. The stockings are stuffed and presents wrapped. Pies are baked and everything is packed. We are off to SO's son's house in the morning.(six blocks, aren't we the world travelers?) I am sitting back with a glass of Kahlua French Vanilla and milk, listening to Christmas music and the relaxing sound of water dripping in buckets (and washing all the soggy towels). But it finally feels like Christmas. SO and son are out at the mall which is an annual event (I think they are crazy). I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve and an even better Christmas day. I will be thinking of you all!

  74. Thanks Scirish! Did you get the towels I sent you over on MS?

    Hi Maureen!

    Hi Donna Jean!

Lynn D if you do come back to the nest after having a "few" drinks please stay on the lower branches so you don't fall too far if you get tipsy! Lol!

If anyone needs wrapping paper I have 24 roll I bought when the store I worked at went out of business. I was the one who marked things down so I got a roll for .25 or .50 cents. I don't know why I bought so much cause I usually give gift cards when I have money to give anything.

  89. Just got back from my in-laws!! Lutefisk has been eaten and I'm a bit tipsy from the Tom n Jerry's. All in all we had a good night. The only disappointing thing is that MR. JODI and my oldest son had to do the chores (feed and water the belgian horses) before we left, so we weren't able to attend the candlelight service at my mil's church. TINA I hope you said a prayer for me!!

ZONA - Enjoy the time with your sister!!! And quit dusting already!!!

  101. Oh my, I went to Christmas Eve mass and it was sooo beautiful, I am so glad I went.. My SIL offered to help my mom clean up, so off I went with my cousin Ar (aunt jo's daughter)..

It was our first Christmas Eve, in many, many yrs without Dear Aunt Jo, we miss her very much..

Every Christmas Eve, Aunt Jo would give my parents a card with $100.00 in it, it was her way of thanking them for hosting Christmas Eve.

This year Ar gave my parents a card with $100.00 in it.. She signed the card..

    "In memory of Josephine"

Ar said her mother would have wanted her to do it..

I cried a bucket of tears...

And then had three shots of something, not sure what it was, but it tasted damn good..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  118. Not sure why tho, cause most priests are gay... so whats the big deal..

    ReplyDelete
  119. ewwwwwwwwwwwww....no....no porn...not tonight....is the Pope done saying mass? that's what I used to do....while last minute wrapping....but right now the Mr is up making bread pudding and oldest son is watching tv.....uh....THEY NEED TO GO TO BED SO I CAN FINISH!!!! DUH~

    ReplyDelete
  120. oh my shit....i can't believe you said that!!!!! doesn't mean they watch porn, you dork~

    ReplyDelete
  121. Tina:
I hate to break it to you.. but it is very true.. well not sure about the porn thing, but def the gay thing..

I am fine with it.. A priest is a priest no matter what sexual
preference he might have, however I don't think they are suppose to have a sexual preference. They are suppose to give themselves up to God. But whatever, to each his own...
