~ My Amazing Daughter ~

by Tina~in_ut

I have an amazing daughter. I don’t know how else to put it. I’m so very proud of her. I could learn so much from her. She is kind hearted and sensitive to others’ feelings.

One of my friends recently lost her dog. She was very sad, of course. I tried to keep her from being sad……sometimes I was successful, and sometimes, not so much. When I told my daughter what had happened, she went into action. I had no idea what she was doing until she was done.

I was on the phone and crocheting at the same time and my daughter kept coming up to me and asking strange questions about the dog. I was getting annoyed because I was on the phone and she kept interrupting me. It was 2am and she really should have been in bed, but she wanted to finish what she was doing before going. On her way to bed, she showed me what she had made. It was a scrapbook page with a poem written from the dog to my friend. The page was decorated. I was astounded. My daughter has never met my friend. She only knows her through me. She used a poem that was given to her by one of her friends when we lost Draco. It meant a lot to her and she wanted to send it off to my friend in the hopes that it would make her feel better.

Later, after she went to bed, I went downstairs and found the lovely mess she had made with all my scrapbook supplies. There was also a note she had written on the back of the page. My initial annoyance at having to clean up after her was replaced by a sense of pride at what she had written. There was so much unconditional love and genuine concern for my friend.

I am so very proud to call her my daughter. Now I'm off to find out who her real mother is......because there is no way she got any of this from me~

  3. TINA: Yes, you do have an amazing daughter. She has a kindness and gentleness that shines from within. She's not only beautiful on the outside, she is beautiful on the inside too...with a smile that'll melt your heart.

What she did for your friend doesn't surprise me at all..now you letting her have free reign of your scrapbooking supplies?? Well... ;)

And you're gonna hate this part..but I can see just where she gets her kindness and caring from..and yes, it's from you. You can deny it, that's ok..but I know what I know. And you know that I know what I know. I'll just stop there. ;)

    Beautiful blog today TINA...thank you.

  14. Good Morning Hooters!

congrats on 1st Zona. Hi Birdee! Hope you feel better, you too Carol and eveyone else.

Whabbear- it really is a gift when you like your kids- :) because trust me, there are periods of time when you wonder "what the hell was I thinking when I wanted children?" They are wonderful as children, then they go thru the ugly period of hormones and knowing it all. Finally, they go back to normal and actually think YOU know something! LOL

Tina- your daughter has a beautiful Heart. Obviously you taught her well, like it or lump it, you get the credit!

I see I made quote of the day!

I survived Curves and liked it. I am going back tomorrow and getting into a regular routine. Just what I needed after all the grouches yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  28. Morning Glories!

Zona congrats on first! I had a heck of a time getting in! I was starting to think that Scrishy had changed the locks.

Tina your blog today gives me so much hope. Your daughter did an amazing thing by worrying about your friend. She has empathy and sympathy and I know she did not just learn that on the streets.

Makes me feel like we are passing the world on to a generation who cares. I will take comfort from that all day!

Hi Birdee and Carol! Sorry to hear you both have the cruddies. Take care of yourselves but please stand over there and no hugs today as I don't need to catch what you have! Air kisses from across the room.

Tinka I am so sorry you are going through this inner ear problem just reading about it gives me an upset stomach! Get better soon we miss you.

Goldie wish I lived by you I would join curves and go with!

    Good Morning Whabby!

I have to jump in the shower and head to the foodbank. Everyone have a fantastic day!

    ReplyDelete
  29. LYNND: Glad you made it through security!! I cringed when you said you were going to jump in the shower...BE CAREFUL!!! This is only advice from one who's jumped and missed. ;)

    BIRDEE: Poor Boz!!!! Yikes!!

  32. Tina - Thank you for sharing your daughter's AMAZING heart!!! I'm sure your friend will cherish her kindness FOREVER!! Losing an animal is heartwrenching and to know that someone cares makes it not hurt as much!!

    KUDOS to your daughter!!

    :-)

  33. Good morning Zona, Birdee, Whabbear, Carol, goldie, Lynn D,MEK

    Congrats on first Zona!

    Laughing at the "snot comparisons."

I hate colds. I panic at just the sniffles, why?, cuz I have a tendency towards a bloody nose. Once it starts it is hard to stop, so gals, please! easy on the bjs and I mean that in a medical way lol! I blew my nose a little this morning and saw a minuscule droplet of blood, and decided to stay home. Those of you that have had bad nosebleeds know what I mean. I keep saline with me all the time, especially in the winter time or on airplanes when the air is especially dry.ok, enough about my schnauzer lol!

Tina,I love what your Daughter did, she wins the big-heart-of-the-week trophy! Like it or not she is you mini-me. Good for her (me,standing & clapping).

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good morning/afternoon!

Tina, your daughter is a gem, and I have no doubt she got her caring, compassionate heart from her mom and dad.

You and MR. TINA obviously did something very right in raising your kids.

Thank you so much for sharing that this morning, it makes you feel good and know there is lots of hope for our future.

I don't have any kids, but if I did I would want my child to be like your daughter.

    Congrast on 1st today Zona!!

Hope everyone has a nice day :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. What a wonderful post TINA. How great it is that your daughter has such a gift of love and healing.

I haven't been on the NEST for very long and I don't know you as well as others know you, but your daughter must be growing up with your love and respect, or she wouldn't know how to give so well to others.

  36. Good winters morning from summer in Pacifica! The Bay area is seeing temps in the late 60s and 70's. We need RAIN.

CAROL, BIRDEE, I hope the uninvited guests in your nose clear out soon. I am sending some of our sun your way.

ZINA, Here is some Tylenol for your headache.

BEAR, are you enjoying the summer weather?

GOLDIE, I am glad you are enjoying Curves. Obviously it has pumped up your hair. :)

LYNN, I hope YOU have a fantastic day.

A great day to MEK, MARY & EBJ

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope you wake up vertigo free today TINK.

    VIG, Where are you now?

    ReplyDelete
  38. OMG- I think if I were Catholic I would be doing major Hail Mary's right now! (or whatever it is you do)

I got a phone call from my accountants office (the business and our personal). He had a heart attack and died last night! They were supposed to have an open house for their new office today- so they were calling to cancel and let everyone know. They also inquired if he was working on anything that they needed to know about.

Well shit and be damned (I probably am) when I hung up the only thing I could think about was what a pain in the ass it is going to be to start over with someone else!! How horrible a person does that make me???

I need to go make some special brownies and say some pentance I think. The brownies will allow me to lighten up, so to speak....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Zona Woo Hoo! Congrats on being first in the nest today!

Tina What a lovely card your daughter made and what a beautiful, compassionate heart she has! You must be very, very proud.

Carol and Birdee Please don't leave those used tissues all over the nest. ;)

  40. GOLDIE, It makes you human. *Perhaps the Church could use your Special Brownies at the confessional.

*Not meant to insult the church.

  41. Good Morning. BIRDIE AND CAROL.I hope those snotty noses go away soon. Don't you hate it when you bend your head down to write and your damn nose starts dripping!

TINK: Are you feeling any better today? I hope that dizziness goes away and stays away. I know it can be miserable.

TINA: What a nice note your daughter wrote and what a caring person she must be...just like her dad....ok, just kidding, couldn't resist....seriously, it shows what a great job you and MrT are doing bringing her up. Good job. (It seems funny calling your husband MR T as I get the visual of all the bling and him standing with his arms folded)! :)

SACBARB: Did you have your party at your house last night? I hope it didn't make you feel worse. Please rest today and do nothing. I worry about you being sick for so long.

ZONA: Congrats on first. Had that headache gone away yet? Thinking of you and still cheering for your team this weekend. Is your town going crazy especially with the game in your home field? I always thought the hype was a lot of fun before the game in the city.

My SIL is coming over to clean my carpets and I am taking the girls to the movie and to eat. They are getting better but are out of school until the 27th of January (year round schedule). They want to see Bride Wars and I think it looks okay for them to see.

Have a good afternoon. MEK, I received your beautiful note/card in the mail. You are sure talented. I am glad you are enjoying McDonalds!

    ReplyDelete
  42. WaHoo....looks like I was number 50. I don't usually jump in at any special number except maybe last sometimes at night.

GOLDIE: I am sorry about your accountant. What a shock to everyone. Life......

    ReplyDelete
  43. Goldoe, so sorry about your accountant. I don't think you should be so hard on yourself...

    Dianne, congrats on #50!!

OK, a tedious march before I have to leave for work

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just got home and I am in a rotten Bitch slapping mood! I am sick of the idiots on the board of the building the food bank is in and I just want to kick some ass or send a wonderfully scathing letter to the editor of our newspaper!

Goldie sorry about your accountant. That is horrible but I think you are human to have the reaction you did. Especially as this is tax season. Yikes Send me a few of your brownies I think I really need them.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Afternoon All....remember back on Dec 15 when I posted so excited about my puppies? Dolly had a total of 16....we lost all but 3...then on Dec 26 we found Dolly had died during the night. Everything had just completely unraveled.......and it was devastating.....

I am sharing this because of Tina and her daughter...shortly after all this Tina's daughter saw "Marley & Me" at the theater and told Tina to make sure that I didn't see it.....she thought it would upset me...

I am the recipient of this young ladies concern and kindness that Tina wrote about today. I get a lot of mail from Utah...and when this came it really touched me....when I talked with Tina she told me that her daughter had been worried that it would upset me....but the tears it brought were not for Dolly...they were because of this child's sweet sweet effort to comfort me.
I was going to share what she wrote to me on the back....but I want to keep a little just for me.

One of the wonderful bonus's that I didn't expect as my friendship with Tina grew...is that she comes as a set...3 great kids and an equally great husband!

It is pure joy to get to hear daily about what each is doing or has done...or what he or she thinks they are going to do....
and to listen as their Mother slowly looses the part of her mind that goes with raising 3 kids...lol...especially during the teenage years.

And many of you have said....Tina has to take the credit....and I agree. And Mr. Tina is pretty remarkable as well. He has made a career of guiding children along the right path with his primary concern being their futures...very special man. Married to the MOST special woman equals marvelous children.

I am so proud of the wonderful job I see them doing with their children and am so thankful everyday that this family is in my life.

Tina is like the daughter I never had.....as a matter of fact we have developed somewhat of a language we use for speed when emailing....so she is "TDINH"...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I picked up the scrapbook page and read the back again....and I have decided it is just too sweet not to share...

    Dear DeeDee,
I know how you feel. Someone gave this poem to me and it meant a lot. Instead of just sending you a piece of paper I decided to make a scrapbook page for you.
It will be hard, buts that's why you have loved ones around you.
I send my love and comfort. As you read this I am giving you a big hug.

    Love,
    #####

  47. Happy Wednesday Owls.

Tina, your wonderful blog made me cry. It isn't surprising to me that your daughter would do something so heart warming. No matter what you say, I know you and Mr.T have taught her how to be so kind and considerate just by your example. Thanks so much for sharing with us.

    ReplyDelete
  48. BARB, I do hope you are feeling much better. Is it warm up your way?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Zona, Congrats on #1. I hope your headache is gone. Yesterday I made a flight reservation to go to San Diego in March for Todd's birthday and my confirmation is JBJ---. I can't tell you how excited that made me. I am sure it is a good omen.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Goldie, I so agree with your assessment of having children. I love babies thru to pre-teens. The teenage years are usually trying and sometimes downright ugly. (Tina, your daughter is an exception) Then all of a sudden, they become people again and we realize that they actually were listening and have even retained what we were teaching them, and it was all worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. SHIRLEY, Luv U

ITEACH, Have the new friends on your face cleared out of town? Are you snowed in? On our news the weather your way looked pretty terrible.

Joey, I hope things are better for you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Lani, It was 70 here yesterday. The weather people keep saying we need rain badly, but there is none in sight, just heavy fog.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Dianne, Yes, I had the meeting at my house last night and all went well. I even got help putting all the chairs back. (I had 16 chairs around the pool table). And no one asked why all the bedroom doors were shut.

    ReplyDelete
  54. DeeDee, I am so sorry about your puppies and Dolly. Thanks for sharing the sentiment that Daughter Tina sent to you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Goldie, I know exactly how you feel. My Hubby and I had a business for 10 years and our Accountant died after he had been doing our books for about 6 years. I had the same thought as you. It wasn't tax season, but we still had quarterly stuff, and employee stuff and no one knew where he was in all that. It was a mess, but his staff helped a lot and we got through it OK. I will pray that it goes smoothly for you.

You are not a horrible person. We all know you really have a warm heart.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Carol, Bless you. I know it's a little late, but I just saw you sneeze. I'm glad your snot is running clear. Mine is clear now too. We are getting better.

  57. First of all, thank you everyone for your sweet comments~ When I wrote it, it was to share with you how amazing I think my daughter is....and to let you know that i actually find her quite foreign, if you must know, for a 13 yr old! I told her that I wrote it and she wanted to read it...i said no....didn't want it going to her head. My son wanted me to write one about him....I laughed and said that as soon as he did anything to write home about, I would! He gave me suggestions.....like his "great" ablility to play basketball (yeah, right!) or his xbox playing skills! NOT!! My hubby gave me 'the eye' and said later that night he'd give me something to write about! lol....yeah...couldn't even write a paragraph about that! lol~ :D

....but i do thank you all for being so sweet~

Carol, Birdee and Mary, I really hope your noses are all better soon! Oh, and ... yuck.

Goldie, we all have those thoughts. What shows your kind heart is that you felt bad about it. Besides, I think it was eating the rhino butt holes that made you a little cranky. Just sayin'.

  70. DIANNE, Your granddaughters will always have these precious memories of this time with you. How comforting for them.

  71. TINA: No fair!!! You can't "Oh Baby" at #100!! Wait..what do you know that I don't?? Damn, all these years and I thought there was just 69, you mean there's 100 too?? Damn. I think we need to talk!! ;)

Mr. Z is getting ready to go to work..get back to me quick, kay?? :D

  72. oh honey~ I can oh baby at any number~ You should see me when i get 88~ I just keep that to myself~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thank you TINA. Sometimes I find my short term memory quite frightening. I have been thinking about making a spread sheet of all my OWL friends for a reference. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  74. TINA: LMAO!!! I'm trying to picture this ya know...nope, nope, nope!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  75. Gosh DEEDEE, that is so sad about losing some many of the puppies too. I knew you had lost Dolly but not all the others. I am so sorry for this sadness. Thank you for sharing the note from TINA's daughter. It is so sweet and thoughtful for her to do on her own. Our children can surprise us sometimes. Again, thanks for sharing.

We have been delayed in going to the movie so went for some lunch and we will go to the movie this afternoon. I am ready for a darn nap from doing nothing.

SACBARB: Glad to see you are feeling better. What team are you going to be cheering for now? I think now that our division is completely out we should go for Arizona...what do you think?

LANI: Thanks for saying that about my grandkids. I hope they will have lots of memories of me some day to tell their children. I am just glad that I don't work any more and am available to help out and hang out. I don't take the three boys (my son's) quite as often as they are quite a hand-full (3,6,8) and they are alllllllll boy!! They are more fun to take one at a time at my old age!! :)

TINA: Thank you very much for changing my MS page to my new winter scene. I appreciate it.

Looking forward to AI again tonight. There is so much good TV on now and more to come with Apprentice, etc. I guess I love reality shows...some of them. I did try to watch that new dance show on Monday night a couple of times but really didn't like it too much. Is anyone else watching that show?

    ReplyDelete
  76. GOLDIE: I'm so sorry to hear about your accountant. You are not a horrible person...puh-leez.

    ReplyDelete
  79. LYNND: Can I come out from under the bed?? I read you're in a slappin' mood?? ;)

DIANNE: People are going crazy here. They're painting their faces, dying their hair...there are Cardinal jerseys everywhere!! I swear, if do we win..SuperBowl weekend is gonna be NUTS!!! Wait..this is the game that decides if we go to the SuperBowl..isn't it?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  80. DEEDEE: I loved your post. I actually read twice, and I know I'll read it again. I think the relationship you and TINA have is wonderful...I always have. You are one special lady, you truly are.

    ReplyDelete
  81. ZONA: Yes, this is the weekend that will decide if you go to the Super Bowl on Feb 1st. You think your town is excited now...wait and see if that happens. You just can't help but get caught up in the excitement. I will tell you on our first time, the city and all of us were so excited...when we lost the Super Bowl..OMG, it was a huge let-down. We still had a parade for the team but everyone was so down. The next time we lost...no parade but still depressing BUT then there were the next TWO times and we won!!

MEK: Are you involved in this excitement for the Cards too? I might have to come there and rummage through the sports stores.

SACBARB; Have you seen the Color Purple musical yet? We saw it last week and it was pretty good. I had never seen the movie so I had no idea what it would like but I enjoyed it.

Well, time to go to the movie. LANI, thank you so much for the nice comment on MS. You made my day!

LANI AND JUST/LIN: Looks like your 49er's Coach is now our Defensive coach. I hope that is a good thing.

  86. Okay, I have been minding my own weather business here in sunny, fairly warm Georgia. Now, I'm not complaining, mind you, but tomorrow's high will only be 49 degrees.

So, I'm just asking... which one of you owls is sending your cold weather over here??? Is it you, Mary?

LOL! Really, I know 49 is nothing compared to what some of you owls are dealing with. I feel so sorry for you because at 49, my warm GA butt will be freezing!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. DeeDee- So sorry for your loss of Dolly and the puppies. Thanks for sharing the message that Tina's daughter sent you.

Lynn, as long as you don't bitch slap me I will be happy to share.

Thanks for saying that I am "normal" everyone. I have gotten over my need to say "Hail Mary's" (nope, still not Catholic Tina). I even made an appointment with a new accountant! Oh, I did send a sympathy card to his wife too. :)

J/L- 75* above zero??????????? We are having record cold and almost all the schools in Southern WI are already closed for tomorrow. Windchills down to -30 to -45 or so for tomorrow. They said they revised the way they figure it, so it will be like it used to be when it was
-60 or so!! Might have to call in "cold" tomorrow. Brrr.
Oh, and I can't wait to get my next heating bill! OY

Next step is stopping the iron loss that occurs every month. I'm going to have the ablation done. Has anyone had that?

Thanks so much for asking! You're such a sweetie, Lani.

GOLDIE...you are not a terrible person...180 degrees opposite. But, have some brownies anyhow!

BIRDEEEEEE...I miss you (and your snot!) So glad to see you post! Poor Boz and his frozen balls! It's not funny, but it is! Stay warm.

CAROL..you are a goof! Comparing snot has taken you to a new level! I once looked it up and supposedly, regardless of how sick we are we only produce an ounce of snot a day...I say BULL CRAP! I truly think it can be in the gallons! Feel better.

DEEDEE...I'm sorry about Dolly and the puppies. So sad. Are you going to keep the 3 little ones?

It is fricking freezing and going to be worse tomorrow and Friday. BBBbbrrrrrrrrrr.

  100. My inner dork-osity came out this evening at the gas station (1.70 a gallon). I swiped my card and then it said to lift nozzle and select grade. I pick up the green handled nozzle and kept trying to engage the unleaded button, but the diesel button kept lighting up and beeping. So, I press cancel and try it again. Same thing. I hit cancel and tried AGAIN! Finally I decide the pump is broken, so I put the gas cap back on and get back in the car and drive to another pump. After I get to the other pump I realize there are TWO nozzles...one for diesel and one for gas! I kept picking up the wrong nozzle! DORK!!!!!!

  101. Maureen...

I took Dolly's remains to the animal shelter for disposal and the 3 remaining puppies went to volunteers of the animal shelter. It is called foster care and they will get the puppies to the adoption stage. All this was on the recommendation of my veterinarian. I was already attached to the puppies and I don't think I could have bottle fed them just to find homes for them.....so I was so sad about giving them up...their little eyes probably would have opened over the weekend....but thank goodness for the people who volunteer for the foster care program.
I still have Blue and my 6 month old Belle.....

Thanks everyone for your kind concern......

    ReplyDelete
  102. DeeDee, we have the foster care here too. It is a great service. I am glad you have Blue & Belle to keep you company.

  103. Dianne, Yes, I saw the Color Purple. I enjoyed it also. I did see the movie, but it was so long ago, I really didn't remember the details. I can't even tell you if the play followed the movie that closely.

Zona, Right, it's the headache! If that's your story, I'll buy it.

    Mo, I agree - gallons!

  104. Evening Owls I am mostly past my bitch slapping phase and into depression.

Zona you can come out now!

Goldie I would never slap you! Well....unless you would not share the brownies.

DeeDee I am so sorry for your loss. It is amazing how much our pets work their way into our hearts.

I disagree with the one ounce of snot myth! I know when I have a cold it is like a damn snot factory! Maybe I will collect it next time and let you all know. Just in the name of science mind you.

Ok need to go lay down and just shut my brain off.

  105. Hi everyone!

Just caught up on the comments from today.

DeeDee, oh I feel soooo bad for you. I know how painful it is to lose 1 animal, but the mom, and almost a whole litter! I had tears while reading your post.

What breed of dogs were Dolly and the pups?

Lucky the 3 little ones got to go to foster care.

Zona, maybe I am non-chalant about the 69s because I have gotten quite a few of them lately??? ;)

I'm not sure of the exact amount but I think it's 5 or so since Jan. 1st.

That MR. ZONA is a pretty funny guy!!

MO, I have grabbed the green handle at the gas station before!

    ReplyDelete

    First off...Congrats on first Zona!

Second, Vig: AREA 52: I loved your blog. I am so sorry it took me so long to comment. I have had a hectic week. My paradise on earth is going to Destin in February. I just love it. It is so peaceful there and just wonderful. My trips to Walmart and hanging around the condo means so much to me. I love driving to Houston in the middle of the week too. It is always a great trip!! :)

Tina: Great Blog!! Your daughter sounds so wonderful. I know what you mean, I am blessed with a wonderful daughter that I love so much. She is a true gem. I sometimes feel like I was so blessed with her, that she is so smart and has good goals.

Dee Dee: I am so sorry to hear about your dog, Dolly, and her puppies. That made me really sad. I am sure you have been heartbroken over it. I am sorry I didn't comment on it earlier but I just posted from my phone and hadn't read the comments yet. It is nice to see the great friendship that you have with Tina and her family. I am sure that friendship has helped you tremendously to get through such a sad experience.
