My Sister

by Iteach

My younger sister and I have very interesting relationship with food.

I'm the overweight one and she is the skinny one. Her clothes size range from 0-4 and mine goes from 18-20. I eat for pleasure and she eats for survival. We each gave birth three times. She gained 15 pounds with each child while pregnant and I gained 50 pounds with each pregnancy. She lost all her pregnancy weight and I didn't.

She doesn't choose to be skinny. She has never been on a diet and never ever exercises. She just doesn't see the need to eat and most of the time she just forgets. Food is on my mind 24/7 even when I was the "right" weight. I'm always thinking about my next meal and what it will be.

It is amazing all the people who give her a hard time for being skinny. I watch her cry in private, because she didn't choose to be that way. It was a fluke in the genes. All the Italian woman in my family have big boobs and behinds.

Even though are eating habits are totally different we still suffer the same in many ways. That is why she never ever says anything to me about being overweight. She knows how it feels to have people hound you about your weight. I try not to do the same, but jealousy has reared its ugly head ever so often and I have slipped in couple jabs about her being too skinny.

There are cons for being too skinny and too overweight. However, I have my sister and she has me and somehow we will find the healthy path.

  1. Morning Glories!

Iteach you and your sister are lucky to have each other. Even tho you both are struggling at times, I think it is great that you each have an understanding of the issues concerning weight.

Very happy for all of the owls who are meeting today! Lucky Duckies!

MEK I think it is wonderful that you are going to get a new puppy!

Bebbi congrats on passing your test!

Sacbarb a new kitchen, how fun. Hey and if you still won't cook after that just think it will always be clean! LOL

  3. from yesterday - -

I forgot to thank everyone for playing along - Thank you all for your great comments...

Whabby - I did share my top five in the comment section...

Just Lin and Tina - i just about spit out my milk reading that sharp penis conversation..

and i did read up on the shar pei last night - and saw the skin condition thing - they are a mix - I think once I am able to actually touch and play with these puppies - I'll get a better feel..

Trust me - I didn't sleep very much last night.......

Like - WTF am I thinking? Do I really want to take this on? Was it really a 'sign' that I just happened to be there?

We had it SOOOOOOOO great with the relationship that Barney and bailey had - and they were/are the BEST pets ever -

Do I want to disrupt the flow of the household?
    I just don't know........

  5. Back from dropping Mr. Lynn D off.

MEK get the puppy! New life is wonderful.

I also thought of something for a bucket list. One time I would like to travel somewhere anywhere first class. LOL But I am cheap and so that may be an unattainable goal.

    Hi Kgirl

  6. ITEACH - Great blog!!! I can relate with you. I don't have a sister, but my Dad has ALWAYS been thin. I can remember my Grandma (his Mom) always saying...."Donald...you're so thin". It would bug the shit out of him. He just has always had that type of matabolism. I am more like you. I have had to fight for every pound that I lose. My brother Eric is more like Dad and would tease me endlessly about my weight, but it was my brother Dale that told me he loved me just the way I am!!!

LYNN D - I got bumped to first class one time....it was heaven!! Although I don't ever get a chance to travel or fly anywhere, so at this point I would be happy to be in the baggage hold!!!

TURTLE!!! Are you still up, or did you have a very early wake up call.

MEK - Those Bush twins are one class act. Their letter was very touching and they know of what they speak, having been thru it not only with their Dad but also their Grandpa. I hope you find a perfect fit for your family!! And don't forget to smack those girls for me tomorrow!!! :P

  10. Happy Friday morning Owls.

Lynn, You are the early bird this morning.

Iteach, One of the ladies I spent the weekend with is Italian like me and we were commiserating about the big boobs and behind. On the other hand, one of the ladies is a skinny bitch (but we love her) and she still looks like she did in high school. She too, never diets or exercises. There just doesn't seem to be any justice about that issue. P.S. her hubby is a hunk too.

  11. I haven't read the comments yet. I am waiting for the kitchen guy who will be measuring everything and making the blueprint.

Scirish, Thanks for the info. How long did it take for the refinishing to start coming undone and who did it? I am having Home Depot do it and they guarantee it.

Mary, It was my pleasure to taxi you and Raquel at the BABB. You both brought to me and Sharon.

    Gotta go. BBL

  12. I am back. The 'fur babies' are fed and I have my juice. I am happy.

Good Morning Lynn. Congrats on lst.

Good Morning Mek, K-Girl and Jodi. I think there must be some sleepy owls today as I don't see many in the nest.

Iteach - Great blog. It sounds like you have a wonderful sister. My sister and I had the same 'problem' except that I had to work at keeping my weight down when I was young.

At times of stress we would act differently. I couldn't eat and she couldn't stop eating. When my dad got sick in 1986 and couldn't eat, I couldn't eat either. By the time he died on February 27, 1987, I was down to 98 pounds and everyone was worried about me. My sister had gained about 40 pounds and she was worried about losing it. She always tried hard but never did lose it until she got very sick. Again I lost weight.

I used to love food now I eat to live. My family is always nagging me about eating better. I could live on shredded wheat, Tropicana orange juice and Slim Fast. I don't eat very many calories in a day but I am not losing weight. My body has adjusted to that much food and my weight stays the same. I am far from skinny but that suits me just fine.
The five years I had international students were good for me because I had to make nutritious meals.
That is one of my New Year's resolutions, to eat better. However, just like the rest of my resolutions, I am not very faithful about keeping them.

I must go and have my shredded wheat. Have a great day. Love, Tinka

So waving wildly at Iteach (great blog), LynnD, MEK, Turtle, Jodi (give Goldie a hug for me), and Tinka. Hello to all the other Owls that land later.

  14. Good Morning Hooters,

    Congrats lynn!

Iteach, loved your blog and showing the 2 sides of the same issue. I had a friend in high school who was so skinny she hated it! She at so much junk and protein shakes to try to GAIN weight. Never happened. She was healthy but reed thin.

I have a love affair with food too- but m y diabetes causes me to abstain from more than I would like (luckily or I really would be a full time eater.) I am a stress eater no doubt!

MEK- I know that I don't get a vote, but I say go for the dog who is older. Puppies are wonderful, and likely to get adopted easily. Older dogs not so much, and that guy might really need you...:)

Can't wait for lunch with Jodi- I sure wish you all could be there to join us!

  15. Howdy - K'girl, Jody, SacBarb, Tinka, Lynn (again)!!

I am home from the shelter...

The shepard mix was being walked when we got there - so we just got out of the car and walked with him. Bailey could have cared less. Trooper could have cared less about me or her...... has some chow in him.......

The puppies - well - that is a story... The mom dog bit several volunteers this morning and tore one man's jeans..... three puppies bit volunteers - they were moving them to an outdoor pen.... they are still very scared and unsure.

WELL - this one lady volunteer told me that I had MY VOICE was TOO HIGH PITCHED and that I could NEVER BE though of as THE PACK LEADER - she said NO DOG would ever give me any respect..

WTF - and who in the hell did she think she was!!!!!!!

So - I am home - and I am going to take a nap before heading to my scrapbook fun this afternoon!!

hope everyone is having a great day..

Dianne - hope you landed safely..

  16. Goldie - we were typing at the same time..

I agree about an older dog - i am going to have Mr. MEK meet two of the dogs that they have on Sunday!!

I don't want to bring anyone home that hasn't met him - it has to fit for all of us!!

Okay - back to talking about our weight!!
    :-)

  17. LynnD: Congrats on first! Also, thanks for the congratulations.

Iteach: Great blog!! Weight is such an issue with everyone, it seems like people are always judging others on it, too skinny, too large...uggh!

I want to formally apologize for my drunken blogging yesterday! How embarrassing! I wasn't even spelling right..LOL. I hope that I didn't offend anyone. I don't think my daughter has ever seen me inebriated...she thought it was so funny. She told me today she wanted me to get the second bottle of wine because she thought I was hilarious!

    Oh well, sorry all.

Mek: it sounds like you are doing the best choices to get the right dog for your family. :) Whichever dog you choose is going to one lucky dog!

When I started 10th grade I was 5 feet tall and weighed 150lbs... that year I grew 8 inches and lost 15 pounds... I was hot... that lasted about 9 years... and then my battle began... I LOVE FOOD....
and I eat when I want... I know, really bad for me...

MEK... Goldie has a good point about the older dog...

  20. Good Morning to MEK, LYNN, JODI, BARB, KGRL, TINK & GOLDIE

Thank you for your post today ITEACH. Except for a couple of brief times in my life, I never had a problem with my weight, until now. I have gained too much weight. I never weigh myself, but along with seeing it, I am feeling it. I don't feel comfortable, and practically have no clothes left that fit.

How wonderful ITEACH that you and your sister have each other. It is a difficult situation when we find comfort in food, because we need to keep eating. It isn't something we can just stop, like smoking or drinking or gambling etc.

But remember ITEACH, in your struggle with food, that your family and friends love you for who you are. I have only seen a couple of pictures of you, but the ones I have seen, I can see you are a very pretty woman.

  21. Hi IBB & BEBBI

GOLDIE AND HODI, Have a wonderful time at lunch and write back with all of the details.

BEBBI, We sure know you had a great time last night :) You sound pretty chipper today.

MEK, yes, that was sweet of the Bush twins to leave the note for the girls. I have worked around hundreds of people and their dogs, and believe me training etc has nothing to do with the pitch of the voice. One of veterinarians used hand signals, and the Dog Whisperer doesn't use his voice.

BARB, I hope the remodel is a smooth one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Once again TINK, it so so good to hear you sounding back to normal.

MEK, It takes a couple of months for an older adopted dog to totally bond with the family. Our lab rescue dog Molly, ended up being the love of our lives.

  23. good morning....oops....frick and frack....it's already afternoon~ Di is on her plane~ I guess i should shower, huh?

iteach~ I've gained over 10 lbs since the beginning of December and it's totally depressing me! My sis is getting skinnier as we speak...each time i see her, I swear she's lost more weight! the Bitch!!! :)~ Oh well.....

    LynnD~ congrats on first~

Do you think I should go wake up Zona? lol....she's right here!

  24. LynnD Woo Hoo! Congrats on making #1 today (or is that a 69 in disguise?)

Tina I bet that's only "holiday weight" and it is probably coming off now that you are back to more normal eating habits. Although, In N Out may not be normal for you. :)

iteach Very good blog today. It is great that you have your sister and the two of you can support each other. People who are very thin are assumed to have an eating disorder. I wouldn't like it if people thought I was vomiting every time I used a restroom. Making uninformed judgements about people is bad all the way around. I need to lose a lot of weight. I was actually thinking of making cookies today. Hmmmmm. Lani is coming over tonight and I am making tuna casserole as we both like it so much. Hmmmmm. I guess I won't be dropping any pounds any time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  25. MEK It sounds like those puppies and mother are not really socialized. Maybe they were outdoor only dogs. That would concern me. IMHO, a young dog, not a puppy, would be easier on the other pets in the household. You also have to consider how much exercise the dog needs. Some breeds really have a lot of energy they need to expend.

  26. Hey HOoters!!!

I just got home from having lunch with GOLDIE!! Once again....great food, a tall brewsky (for MEK!!!), and of course the best company!!!

The one thing I forgot was BIFF!!! Left him in our booth at the restaurant, so now I better call and have them save him, before someone walks away with him!!

    I'll bbl!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. YEAH!!! They have BIFF and will hold onto him til I can pick him up. :O)

  28. Hi all!

I haven't been by the nest in a couple of days and sorry I missed so many great blogs!

As for today's, my one comment is that I finally gave up on being a 'skinny bitch'. It's just not who I'm meant to be. The smallest I've ever been was a size 10 and that was after years of abusing myself with overdieting and overexercising. My beaten body eventually fought back with chronic sinusitis, bronchitis, epstein-barr, and ultimately chronic fatigue syndrome.

Now I try to make healthy food choices and only exercise to stay strong and healthy. I could care less what size my pants are as long as the body they are covering feels good.

I would not trade my younger size 10, always-sick self for the size 18-20 stronger, happier, healthier, and a little wiser for the wear person I am today.

MEK, I hear you're looking for a dog ... I'll bring Arnie (my foster boy) right over! ;o)

  29. JUST LIN - Biff is a character in the book Lamb by Christopher Moore!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jodi Okay, but how could you leave him or do the letters stand for something?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lynnd!
    Congrats on 1...

    Mek,
I saw that letter that Bush girls wrote to the Obama girls, and I thought is was a very nice gesture as well.

    Iteach,
I so relate to your blog, I have always had a weight issue, yet my brother/cousins never did, I was always the heaviest of everyone. When I was younger it bothered me terribly, I would starve myself so I could look like all the skinny "bitches" (said in the nicest of ways), but to no avail. Now it does not bother me at all..

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jodi Did you leave the book? Inquiring minds want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  33. JUST LIN - Yes, I forgot the book at the restaurant. GOLDIE had borrowed it, and she gave it back to me today.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good evening feathered friends!

LYNN...congrats on 1st AND the QOTD! Mr. Lynn did IS lucky!

ITEACH...great blog. I have always had weight issues my whole life. I have gotten to the point where I don't really care aesthetically anymore, but health wise I do. I know I have to lose some weight and need to eat healthier. It is just way cheaper to eat not as healthily, so I opted to go that way or end up not having the budget for 3 meals a day. My entire family has weight issues...must be in the genes (and in the jeans, too!)

TINA, ZONA, MEK, DIANNE, GOLDIE & JODI...I am soooo jealous of you guys! I wish I could have been in WESconsin or AZ.

Waving a wing to all that have landed and those yet to drop in

    ReplyDelete
  35. Weight has always been an issue for me. I was always a jock so back then it was 'ok' to be muscular and stocky....as I grew older it got harder to maintain that younger weight.... I havn't really given up on losing, but it is quite a bit harder these days. My younger brother had always been thin as can be. He is 6'5" and now only weighs like 170 at the age of 41. He is blessed with being thin.

I am not, but the BP is only 90/68, my HR is 66, my cholesterol is 136....so my poor eating and exercise habits have yet to complicate things. I will never be thin, it's not in the family genes, but I could do better.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bebbi: Your apology is NOT accepted! You took our beautiful nest and covered it with slime!

    LOL! NOT!

I loved the drunken commenting yesterday! I kind of have to... I have a bit of a tradition now of drunk texting JACNY when I'm out at a bar (more often than not, she gets drunk texted late Sunday afternoon!)!!

Iteach: My sisters and I are all within the normal weight range for early 21st century North Americans... all just a little overweight!

OMG... Mr Whabbear and his siblings are a totally different story! Hubby is... um... "comfortably plump", his sister is, let's face it, morbidly obese, but his brother John is thin as a rail!

Mr Whabbear is sure that his mother had a fling with the milkman!

    ReplyDelete
  37. From A51: Tina: LOL! I'd forgotten about that, but I remembered it when you reminded me and chuckled!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey hooters,

Finally getting to catch up on the blog! It was a long, busy day at work.

I was not heavy, but got the Italian side big butt and thickness! I used to run the track and was very active. I was a size 12=13 and still had a big butt.

When I quit smoking, I gained so much weight. I guess the food was a substitute for the cigs.

My brothers are both on the thin side, like my mom. Her whole family are tall and thin, my dads side is the heavier.

MEK good luck with the new baby. The part about your voice being too high pitched was too much...

    Great blog today Iteach!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Whabby, thanks! Nothing like "slime in the ice bucket"...errr..in this case, the blog. Tina, ask Deloris about that one, she lives in Houston...haha.

  41. Whabby: Funny story, I called my son last night who happens to be in San Jose this weekend. He asks me if I was "drunk calling him"...I was...it was funny. Believe me, this is a first for my kids. They have not seen me drunk before..lol. My middle son turns 21 on this coming Wednesday. We are having a little family party tomorrow, he asked me if I was going to get drunk again..lol. I think I had my once every ten year drunk. I'm good for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. EBJ: I quit smoking too, back in 2000. I quit smoking, got cable tv and gave up my Y membership. Been struggling with my weight ever since!!! I never had much problem with it before that because I worked as a bookstore manager and moved all the time (and of course smoked too).

    ReplyDelete
  56. Are Tina Zona and Dianne going to be hung over tomorrow!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Carol: Maybe if you guide it like a guidesman does a plane..but you would have to get a small flashlight and crouch down real low..or better yet...get some books and create a little walkway..with books on each side..then he can just "follow the road" out the back door..hehe.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I did not see it, the girl that works for me, opened the back door and Mickey ran it, straight to the bathroom, thank goodness, she was quick enough to shut the door, and so Mickey is locked in the bathroom...she said its a field mickey mouse...

    WTF is a field mouse????

I have glue traps in there so maybe Mickey will get stuck on that and just die, or maybe he will be parched and drink from the toilet and then drown of course, cause how is he gonna get get back up..

Oh my, I am def gonna puke

Mr. Bebbi and I danced in the kitchen and living room. It really was a fun night. I was so happy to have passed..that darn test.

    ReplyDelete
  66. LOL Carol! I am sure Mickey will find a way to escape when you get back to work in the morning (or Monday??)..or are you still at work? ...either way....it is rather funny.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bebbi,
Oh, only if it was that easy.. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey Carol... Why are you at the office this late on a friday night??

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love it..lol, your right Carol..about Tina & Rosie both cheating and how fun it is..haha. :) AWESOME..as a matter of fact!

But, I didn't see Tina cheat?,,,so I have no clue what your talking about...did you see something?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Bebbi,
If Mickey escapes than I have Houdini in my bathroom, cause the door or any cracks are not going to budge..

    ReplyDelete
  71. Carol: I really think the little flashlight and guidesman direction will get him out of there. I have to go every year for my ramp certification. You have to do it a certain way. I am sure he will "follow the light"...

Okay...maybe not, but it is really cute to imagine.

  72. Ibb,

  74. If I was there, I would come and get him out for you. I am not afraid of lil meeses..I love meeses to pieces!

When I was about 15, we had a whole family of them behind our refrigerator. I would set cheese out and feed them. They were so cute. Well, my dad set traps and I remember crying like a baby when I saw them in the trap. I was so sad.

NOW, one thing that would make me puke...the HUGE cockroaches when I lived in HOUSTON..and the worst part..those damn things FLY around too..gawdd..they were horrible..HORRIBLE.

  79. IBB: I think I got sick more from overeating than drinking last night. I had a lot of rich food I haven't really eaten in a while. I did have a salad but I had pasta, bread, oysters on the half shell, seafood and onion rings! YOu know that point when you get full but everything tastes so good and you don't stop. That is what happened with me last night.

  80. Hey..go buy one of those small humane traps..where you can put some cheese in it and slide it in there real quick. He'll probably be hungry by morning..lol..or Monday. Are you still at work?

  82. Home Depot:

    Victor Electronic Mouse Trap

    Model M252

    $19.99/EA Each

This one does kill it though, although it says it is a "quick Humane kill"..

Do you have a Home Depot nearby?

  83. I just love that Rosie has an Owl on her page. It makes me happy! Also, the link she gives has the cutest owl..I borrowed the image to use here. Actually, it had two owls on it for sale.

  84. Yes, Bebbi I do, I am just concerned If I open the door Mickey will run out, so I will let the exterminator handle it.. I can't take the chance of Mickey running out and then being
some where in my office, that will really freak me out..
