TV Theme Songs

by Zona

While searching for a video the other day, I came across the intro to Magnum P.I. This is one of my favorite TV theme songs, as well as being one of my favorite old shows. I can remember driving home from work, windows down, blasting this song for all the other drivers to hear. I'm sure they appreciated that. ;)

It got me wondering though...what has happened to TV theme songs?? Hardly any shows have them anymore..if they do, they are very short. Boston Legal's was great...but what about old openers like the one from 'Hawaii 5-0' and 'Love American Style'?? Do you miss these old theme songs like I do? Which ones do you remember?

Hey Birdee!! CongrATS ON 1ST thru 12~

Colder than a witches tit here today.

Zona- there are so many theme songs I could sing, I probably could win a contest. Recently the theme from "Las Vegas" was my favorite. But the past? I remember the "Love Boat", and "The Courtship of Eddies Father" and "Fame" just to name a few.

Thanks for the hug MEK- it was delivered by Jodi at lunch yesterday. As ususal I enjoyed every minute of her company and we toasted all you OWLS when we drank our micro-brews.

Hope that todays OWLS having lunch have a great time!!!!

  11. Good Morning Owls! Finally a day off!!! I may not even go to the nursing home to see Dad today. He never remembers that I've been there anyway.

I have mounds of laundry. My husband has the good car all day, and I'm stuck with the one that has no heater. My daughter is begging me not to go. (She would have to go w/me.) I'm still feeling yucky from my sinus infection.
THERE! I've talked myself out of going. :)

Congrats on first Birdee! It's slightly snowing here too.

Good conversation-starter blog Zona! I love all the oldies that I'm sure we all still know every word of: The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies, Three's Company, etc. I can't really stand to watch those shows anymore, but I'll never forget the theme songs. I can't wait to read what others say.

  26. Morning y'all! OMG Zona, I love theme songs!!:)

I have noticed too in recent years, they have shortened them or altogether done away with them, which makes me sad

Some of the most memorable for me are:

    Beverly Hillbillies

    Brady Bunch

Andy Griffith Show(our family LOVES this show)

    Gilligan's Island

I even loved Oprah's theme songs over the years and would sing along(yes, I'm a dork haha)
    Remember "RUN ON..."?

Doogie Howser(even though it was just music)

Growing Pains(I was addicted to this show AND Kirk Cameron-pre-crazy Kirk LMAO)

I think it's awesome that the owls have been meeting. I know y'all are having a blast:)

Carol, I read about Mickey in Area 51..Hope you got rid of him lol

Is anyone watching "Game Show in my Head" or "Howie Do it"? I think they're great...Howie Do It is basically a practical joke show. I used to love "Bloopers and Practical Jokes" with Dick Clark!

  34. Speaking of theme songs/music, I really, truly cannot stand Conan O'Brien. I do watch The Tonight Show a lot of the time which comes on right before Conan so when that show ends I try to change the channel as fast as I can so I don't hear the Conan theme music. I can't stand that, either.

We didn't get "Star Trek" where I grew up (just one over-the-air CBC channel came in to the Beaver Valley in the 60's), so my two favorite shows were Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel.

Hmmmm... I wonder if pre-adolescent boys today would like those shows??? They're all out on DVD... but it was such a different time, with the Apollo program getting everybody jazzed about space travel and science fiction...

  98. Hi Bebbi!
Mr May was hungry and wanted something HOT to eat (easy now!), something to open up his sinuses, so I drove to town and got him some very spicy Chinese food. Now he will have a sick tummy to go with his cold lol!

Carol, we need to know the "rest of the story". Did Mickey meet his demise or did you cross your legs all day ha ha!!

  99. I am home, had a great time but I missed my nap and I am going to bed. What a wimp I am.

I am sorry I haven't named anyone today but I love you all.

Zona - My favourite theme is from "Mary Tyler Moore". "How will you make it on your own?". It became my personal theme song. Hope you are having fun.

VIG - Have fun on your next adventure. Call me when you can.

  101. Making Our Dreams Come True

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
    Schlimiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer, incorporated.
    We're gonna do it!
Give us any chance we'll take it,
Read us any rule, we'll break it.
We're gonna make our dreams come true.
    Doin' it our way!
Nothing's gonna turn us back now,
Straight ahead and on the track now.
We're gonna make our dreams come true,
    Doin' it our way!
    There's nothing we won't try,
    Never heard the word "impossible."
This time there's no stopping us,
    We're gonna do it!
On your mark, get set, and go now,
Gotta dream and we just know now.
We're gonna make that dream come true.
And we'll do it our way, yes, our way,
Make all our dreams come true.
And we'll do it our way, yes, our way,
Make all our dreams come true
    For me and you.

    Happy Days

    Sunday, Monday, Happy Days,
    Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days,
    Thursday, Friday, Happy Days,
    Saturday, what a day,
    Groovin' all week with you.

    These days are ours
Happy and free. (Oh Happy Days)
    These days are ours
Share them with me.(Oh Happy Days)

    Goodbye grey sky, hello blue,
'cause nothing can hold me when I hold you.
feels so right it can't be wrong,
rockin' and rollin' all week long.
    (Chorus)

These Happy Days are yours and mine (oh Happy Days)
These Happy Days are yours and mine (oh Happy Days)
These Happy Days are yours and mine, Happy Days.

  106. So, we have all heard of water boarding...but I'll bet you haven't heard of caking before. Well, I went over to SLIN'S house and got caked!

Speaking of mice in the bathroom....The veterinarian who SLIIN and I work for caught a mouse in her bathroom. She injured his leg while catching him, so she brought him to the hospital for a procedure to repair the wound. True story.

  107. Lani, that is too funny! I can just see it's little body draped under a mouse trap with Mickey in a leg cast LOL!!!

Zona, what a fun blog! I LOVED The Monkees, and their theme song!

The Love Boat was another favorite.

OK now I have to brave signing onto Myspace to see the pics from the blogger lunches yesterday and today!

    Congrats on first today Birrrrrrdee!

We have been out looking at houses for MR. EBJ's mom today. We found an adorable place, priced right, so now we need to get her down here to show it to her, and hopefully grab it.

  110. EBJ how nice to hear a happy house story. I hope it works out for you.

MARY We also had a vacuum that sucked insects into it and then we let them go outside. We were definitely an equal opportunity veterinary hospital. I hope Mr M is better soon. Although we know it takes men a much longer time to heal LOL.

Did you guy dance on the tables at the Olive Garden???

  112. Hi everyone-

    Can't stand Conan O'brien

So happy the Owls had a good time at Olive Garden- going to go look at pics.

Donna, so glad you got a day off. Take care of yourself.

I loved Mary Tyler Moore's theme song too.

I have baked up a storm today, taken a HUGE load of stuff to Goodwill and made a big batch of stew for tomorrows ice fisherman. Crazy ass men. Now we women are smart- we are going to the nice warm malls. :) Just have to heat it up and some french bread and we are good to go when they come in to thaw.

Jodi- in case I forget to tell you- did you know they are moving Plato's closet to Odana road? Thought you and Sam should know.

Hope you all have pleasant dreams tonight!

  113. Hi Everybody! :O)

Mickey has left the bathroom, I met the exterminator at my office today, he laughed out loud, when he saw how I baracaded the bathroom door. I asked him to promise me when he opened the door to kill Mickey, that he would not let Mickey get out.. His Answer "Can't promise that" My reply "Oh Shit"

He opened the door as I stood at the other end of my office, and declared with glee... "No Mickey"
it seems where the pipe is for the sink there is a small opening the bug man thinks that is where he escaped. My SSO and the bug man put steel wool in the opening of the hole so Mickey can't climb back up.

I got brave enough to go closer to the bathroom and with that my SSO, came up behind me and grabbed my leg, I scream like a crazy women and smacked him in the
    head... :O)

So, Mickey is gone and to that I say Good Riddance....

    Whew.. One hellava day!

  139. Good Morning Everyone...I am at the hotel waiting to be picked up by TINA AND ZONA for another day of fun. They are really corrupting me...Mr D will probably send me back.

I have to tell you for being a contender for the Super Bowl town/state, I have only seen three Cardinal shirts and one hat and one of those shirts was on MEK!! I brought a Bronco hat for Mr Z to go with his Bronco shirt and he has had it on all the time..even the hat...(ZONA says he sleeps in it). He is so nice and cute..We just call him Rambone!!

The weather is perfect as it was snowing some when I left Denver. Our lunch was so fun yesterday...great to see MEK again..I am so happy meeting my new friends. It is really fun at night when we are planning our next day that noone wants to get up before 11AM...true night owls.

We might go to the movie today and venture to find some Cards shirts for my grandsons..if we can find anywhere to buy them. This is very hard for me to continue to be for them in the Super Bowl. Boy, if we were in Denver there would be flags flying, tents selling merchandise on the corners, houses amd cars decorated...heck, we do that when we AREN'T in the Super Bowl. It was funny at Olive Garden yesterday, I had a Bronco bag for MEK and someone in the restaurant saw it and came over to tell me how much they loved the bronocs and then the girls' grandmother came over later to tell me again. Yup, they are everywhere!!!
