Oh The Joys of Summer!

by Shirley

I told you it was only a few days away and now it's here. Yeah! There's so much to do..let's have fun! What shall we do first? Maybe a walk in the woods. That's sure to result in either poison oak, poison ivy, lime disease or a run in with a skunk. There's nothing like a nice long cool bath in tomato juice to end a perfect summer day. Oh the joys of Summer!

I know, let have a picnic. I'll start cooking the chicken pieces, then I'll boil the eggs for sandwiches, devil eggs and salad. After that I'll make a chocolate cake, cookies and maybe some brownies (just regular ones...after all kids will be there). I'll have to pick up some ice for the cooler. I better pick up a cooler too. By the time we load everything in the car we should be off by suppertime tomorrow! Yeah a picnic! There's nothing like sitting on the ground, swatting blackflies, horseflies and any other flies that pass (and let's not leave out the wasps and bees) by on a hot sticky summer day eating potato salad and chicken that the ants have already feasted on. Oh the joys of Summer!

Lets talk about those nice hot, sticky, sweltering days of summer where just reading a book can make you sweat buckets. Sticking to the furniture is always fun too. Oh and we can't forget the second and third degree burns you get from your car seats. Then hubby comes home and wants you to turn the oven on and make him a five course meal. That results in hubby getting an unexpected swim in the pool, after which he decides take out is a much better idea. He's so thoughtful! Oh the joys of Summer!

We have been for a walk in the woods, had a picnic and watched hubby swim. I think it's time for the beach!! Lets load everything in the car (and I do mean everything!). Beach balls (which will blow away or get busted), towels, blanket, extra clothes, extra sandals, water toys (which will blow away or get busted), snacks and juice (we love feeding the ants!), lawn chairs, hats, sunscreen (waterproof for children and adults), swimsuits (shorts and a t-shirt for me thank you very much) and lets see...oh yeah, lots of screaming, energized kids. Those sweet loving kids will probably want to and will bring half the beach home with them and you will spend the day cleaning sand out of every corner of your car and house. Oh the joys of Summer! We do have Fall to look forward to! Have a nice Summer!!

  2. Hey Tina - Shirley already wrote me down as 1st. Are we going to fight over this one?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good morning! Well, that was weird. I wonder what the problem is with Blogger.

    Goldie Sorry about your condition.

Tina Did you take the gauze out of your gaping hole?

Tinka We may have to have a meeting of Owls to figure out who is first in this situation. I think it was probably you.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Tina - We will let Shirley decide as the new blog was posted twice. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  5. Back to watering my plants. Have a good day everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Goldie Were you bathroom blogging? I'm not sure I really want to know the answer but I had to ask, anyway.

Shirley Thank you for the humor this morning. I really think you should write a column for your local paper or something.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just-Lin - Good Morning. Yes, we will have to call a forum. I think since Tina has suffered with her tooth she should get the consolation prize.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Zona-my-baby - Is Dianne taking good care of you? Do you need me? Watch out for the jello shots.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dianne - You know I love you and I am only kidding. I trust you completely with my daughter. I think it's Bear who leads her astray.

    ReplyDelete
  10. My plants are drying out quickly. See you later.

Tina, I soooo want to comment about "your gaping hole", but I might wind up on the naughty mat lol!

  13. Shirley: ROFLMAO! I was kind of hoping when you got onto the topic of hubby's summer needs and desires, gaping holes would come into the blog.

Luckily, you kept your trap shut on that one!

Tink: Me? Lead Zona astray? Maybe, but only in the manor, and only on very special occasions!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Whabbear - Good Morning. I know you wouldn't lead anyone astray. That is why I love you. It makes for a good running joke however. Dianne and I have been re-running it since 100 day.

  15. Hey hooters!

    Happy Saturday!

Tina, congrats on 1st and 69. How is your hole today?

It is an Arizona day here, at 10:00 this morning it was already 90 degrees. Gonna be a smokin hot day.

Hi to Tinka, JL and Bear, and everyone who comes after!

  16. I didn't realize how late the blog was getting posted and just read area 51.

Hi also to Shirley, MEK and Goldie!

Shirley your blog today was great... I agree that you should write a column. And I can't wait for your "fall" tribute!

  17. There J/L~ I put it on the front page~ :D

Tinka~ I had to take the hubby and son to the airport....i'm now officially on a boring 2 week vacation....just me and the dumb dog! ....and the lawn....the plants.....the garbage which has to be taken out on Wed night....you know...all the things that magically take care of themselves when everyone is here, but I must take over when they all leave~

    ReplyDelete
  18. TINK: Ok, I have to admit that I bought Diet Coke, grapes and made some jello shots for ZONA. I can't be a rude hostess. I also will tell you (between us) that the minute she hit the door and I showed her where the refig was and to help herself....bam...there went the jello shots! MrD had to make a new batch during the night for her breakfast....so, moral of the story.....don't blame BEAR AND I for YOUR daughter's actions!

Now we are going to a late breakfast to "make her feel better" before the bbq tonight!

TINA: It won't be boring, you can go to movies, out to Olive Garden and play on the computer. How are you feeling today? Hope your hole is better and closing up.

Ok, time to help ZONA out to the car.

  19. Hi East Bay J - Stay cool with lots of water and shade. Wish you could be here in our 75 degree weather. It truly is lovely.

Dianne - I am finally realizing that I must have a talk with my daughter. Have fun.

Tina - Boring can be fun sometime. Think of all the cards you can make.

Nap time - See you later.

  20. J/L~ took the gauze outta the gaping hole! Woke up feeling great....took the "men" to the airport and it started hurting on the way home! So now I'm back on Lortab and Jamba Juice....it would be nice if I lost some weight~ ijs~

Tinka~ lol......I now have a date for the movies for tomorrow and again on Wednesday~ Maybe I won't be so bored after all~ :D

  21. Congrats on 69 Tina

Shirley, sounds like really summer is not that fun for you. I hate getting eaten up by mosquitoes when I walk these days. I do like the summertime. I enjoy spring and fall more though. I guess that is why I never want to move back to Houston. It is almost always summer there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Tina - Behave yourself. Every one today has a camera phone.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Up from my nap. Time to get groceries. Hope everyone is having a fun summer day.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bebbi - Cover yourself with Off. We don't want you getting West Nile disease. I haven't heard much of that this summer. I guess Swine Flu took its place.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have made this blog as trivial as could be. Maybe something exciting will happen on the way to get groceries. See you soon.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tina Thank you for posting the QOTD. I'm sorry that you're back on the Lortab. It doesn't look to me like you have any extra weight to lose. Besides, if you lose weight, you know it will come off of your chest. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tinka Congrats on 25 and 50! Did anything exciting happen when you went to get groceries? Yesterday, I held my shopping list between my lips for a second and when I removed it, it was stuck on my lip and took part of my skin with it. It's still swollen and hurts today. Nothing like Tina's gaping hole, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tinka~ I always behave~ :)~

J/L~ I have plenty to lose.....and i realize where it will come from first~ The price I will have to pay~

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tinka, I usually do but not when I walk. The last two times I have walked, after I really started sweating, the mosquitoes would go right through my clothes and get me. I agree, not interested in getting West Nile Virus!

    Stupid Mosqueeetoes.

Sorry to hear that your on Lortab too. It sounds like you are going through some health issues lately. Hope you get over it all real quick. I miss talking to you!! I am the absent nester or the "pop in and comment then leave again" nester too (even worse!).

You all should know, I am so happy, I am down 66 pounds now and no longer in the obese category. Now I am just overweight..yay! :)

I am super happy about that. It took me a while to get rid of the big "O" word. And, for any of you that may not know, you are not obese when you have a BMI of 29.99. 30+ is obese.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tina - I know you are a good girl. I have no worries about that.

Just-Lin - Sorry about your lip. Sometimes the smallest cuts hurt the most. I wonder why that is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bebbie - Congratulations on the big weight loss. You should be commended. That is quite a feat.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Just-Lin - Nothing exciting happened on my trip out of the house. I didn't even see any deer. Oh well the evening is young. As a matter of fact it isn't even here in the West.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I will check back and see if Tina steps on Just-Lin to get 69. That is always exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks Tink, I appreciate that. I am very proud but more so I am happy and feel so much better! It takes a lot of work and commitment, but I am doing it.

I feel more like myself than I have in at least 5 years! yay.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bebbi Congrats on the weight loss! You have done such a super job at staying committed. Many kudos to you!

  36. Hi Everyone..

    Tina.. congrats on first..

And TY for this morning/afternoon txt letting me know the blog did not publish.. and of course for your help..

I don't know why blogger is not auto publishing, I am so confused. I went to blogger news and there is nothing about any problems with auto publishing.. Sorry to all for the late blog..

  42. Carol & J/L: Thanks a lot.

Carol: Glad your day was wonderful. That sounds so nice. No beaches in Kentucky and I really miss that. We used to go to Galveston quite regularly when we lived in Houston. Also, when we lived in Virginia we would take trips to Delaware and Virginia Beach. Here in Kentucky it is 10/11 hours to any large bodies of water! Uggh! Well, there are the great lakes but the gulf and ocean are just a lot nicer. Hugs to all, Hope that your day is fabulous.

I really need to go and do something. I am on vacation all week and am meaning to get some stuff on ebay. Also, Wednesday I am going to Tennessee and picking up my dad. We will be coming back on Thursday and I will take him to the night races at Churchill Downs for the day. He is really excited about that and so am I. It should be a really good time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Carol - Thanks for saying I got a first. It's the only one I got this year. I did "hold down the fort" this morning. I was all alone for a long time. Maybe Tina and I could share it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's very early but I think I am going to bed and watch "I Love Lucy" DVD's. My daughter gave me the complete set of 9 seasons. I am half way through. Good Night to all. Love, Tinka

    ReplyDelete
  48. I will be home tomorrow morning.. Hoping the blog publishes on its own.. cause then that would mean its fixed..

  51. This is what I posted in area 51 this morning after I posted the blog there:

Dianne and Zona I hope you are taking lots of pictures. Go easy on Mr. D, he probably isn't use to two wild women! Lol! Have fun girls!

Good morning Tinka, Mek and Goldie! I think this means that Tinka gets 1st, so congrats on 1st Tinka!!

I could have posted my blog sooner but I kept thinking that Carol would fix it, then I realized she was off to the beach today.

I'm not sure what Carol would have posted for QOTD but I'm sure it would have involved Tina's gaping hole! I hope you feel better today Tina.

  52. Hello from the land of poo.

Little Miss Carolyn has a bad case of the poos.

She is not totally potty trained, yet.

    So it has been everywhere!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Shirley, I'm guessing that your favorite season is fall! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bebbi, way to go on the weight loss as I sit here and eat cookies.

    ReplyDelete
  55. iteach, I am potty trained and it has been a lot of poo here too!
better tonight though. I think I lost 5 pouns though (and that is a good thing)

    Nighty night everyone..

    ReplyDelete
  56. Now I really am going to bed.
    Night!!

  57. Glad you'll like the blog. Thanks! I think I will award 1st to Tina and Tinka.

Tina I hope your...ummmmm...mouth feels better soon.

JustLin I'm gald you like my humour. My niece tells me I have a very weird sence of humour but she still loves me! Oh, and nice QOTD! LOL!

Sorry if I disappointed you Whabbear. Lol!

Tina and EBJ I already have some thoughts for a Fall blog if Carol is willing to post it.

Bebbi what I don't like about Summer is the humidity and bugs. If it could be about 70 with a nice breeze and no bugs I would love it. Congrats on the weight lose and also for moving from obese to just overweight! Your walking and weight lose is an inspiration for a lot of people. Keep up the good work!

Carol don't feel bad about the blog not posting on time. I know it wasn't your fault. No worries. Glad you had a good time today. Actually I don't think you could have a bad time with your family, especially those hot nephew hunks! Do they ever travel to Canada, specifically Nova Scotia?

Jax I don't think anything is off limits here. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sorry to hear that Carolyn and Goldie both have a case of the poohs. Hope it gets better soon.

Iteach you will have to wait for the Fall blog.

Well I'm glad I could make everyone laugh today after all the deaths this week. Good night everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi All, happy evening to everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  60. All: if you can, check out my new profile pic. It is really funny (if you can read it) I know it is small, but when I saw it I had to use it!

    ReplyDelete
  61. well...i was going to tell you all about the 2 mile walk I just took with the damn dog....but it turned into a 2 mile drag! My arm got more of a workout than my legs!!!!~ That boy isn't going on another walk until the kids come home!~

    ReplyDelete
  62. I took Ms. Chloe for a walk. She goes ballistic around other dogs. She weighs all of 6 lbs and is ready to tear into dogs that 100 times her size..lol. She's a sweet pea to people though.

I didn't take Bandit cause he's fat and can't take the heat too well.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay, goin night night...hugs..sweet dreams..don't let the bed bugs bite and all that jazz.

    ReplyDelete
  64. lol Bebbi....good one~ goodnight~

    ReplyDelete
  65. Good Evening...from Denver. JAX: I don't understand what you were wondering about when I made a comment to TINA and she answered back. :) You need to come on the nest more often so you can see how "normal" we talk! And for one other reason....we miss you.

The day is now over and we forgot to take pictures so we are going to try and recreate the day over tomorrow. My granddaughter will be excited if she thinks she gets another party and gifts. We even forgot to take the necklace on our adventures today. We promise tomorrow if I can get ZONA out of bed (the jell-o shots were kind of hard on her last night plus the altitude).

TINA: We thought of you at your favorite hang-out......Denny's. We toasted our water to you and the waitress asked about you. We told her you were in Utah nursing your hole....she seemed to understand.

I think my husband is enjoying all the new girl talk around here plus a guest always acts interested in everything he has to say. You would think I didn't listen to him or something.

ZONA is tongue-tied tonight so I don't think she will be writing. She was busy talking to my brother at the bbq all night. So----see ya' all tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  66. WAIT!!!!! I just noticed that MEK AND J/L didn't say their normal good-nights to us. I cannot go to sleep without it. Yoo Hoo...are either of you still up? I need my "have an excellent Sunday" and "sweet dreams Hooters."

    ReplyDelete
  67. Happy Sunday!!

    GOod Morning...

    Dianne (and everyone else)..

we are off to the dog park... hope to have a video of our little one playing with her favorite friend!! They just LOVE each other!!

Hope you have an excellent Sunday!!
