The passing of two....

It is so true to life when your day starts out as normal as any other, and then as the day ticks by occurrences change the course of it. From the early AM yesterday, I read that Farrah Fawcett was gravely ill and her passing would come quickly. I thought back and remembered all the times I sat in front of the TV watching Charlie Angels, and admiring her beauty, and of course her beautiful hair. What sticks out the most is the poster of her in the red bathing suit, I was in awe of this amazing beautiful girl from Texas. To me she was a star, and I was hooked. Speaking of smells yesterday, I was reminded of the perfume "Charlie" I wore it all the time. Her passing is very sad, I think mostly because of the struggle she went thru to stay alive, she tried so very hard, but in the end, it was not meant to be. She is truly with angels now, just where she was once long ago.

As my day continues with the thought of her. I get breaking news from CNN via e-mail, I had to read it twice. I immediately surfed the web for more information. The tabloid website's had confirmed that Michael Jackson had passed, but the news sites did not. So I was holding out, refreshing like a mad women, hoping there was a chance. I actually for a minute had a thought that it might be a ploy as his tour was to start soon, and I thought this might be his way of backing out. However once CNN confirmed it, I knew it to be true. Again, flashback, this time to Tiger Beat and Teen, all the pages filled with the Jackson Five. Me at "Creations" the night club I use to frequent, dancing to "Beat It" and "Thriller". And then of course Michael Jackson as a young boy singing "ABC" oh my, its so clear in my mind. He did have a very strange life, but that was his choosing. He never did seem happy to me as the years went on, sad all the time. He began to live as a recluse, bringing his children with him. Those three children we all saw with masks on, what will they be when they grow? Can they actually live a standard life? Have they been marked by their fathers idiosyncrasies? So very many questions, so few answers. I guess as it always does, time will tell. I do hope he is finally at peace with himself, as it seems he struggled with who he was, which ultimately I think was his demise.

Sandie said it best as we corresponded thru e-mail:

"So very sad, and it's always unbelievable when someone larger than life passes away".

So very true...

  1. Wahoo- Mark that down Shirley!!

I actually read the whole blog too!

Yes, Carol- it was a surreal day yesterday. I was never a Michael Jackson fan unti "Thriller" came out. Wow- how many times did I listen to that album?? I always wanted Farrah's hair and if my youngest son would have been born a girl, Farrah was one of the names we considered. Sad day indeed.

Hope you all have a nice day and we can get thru it without any bad news today.

  6. Good Morning!

CAROL: Yesterday really was a sad day. I was already feeling bad about the passing of Farrah, when Mr Z came home and told me about Michael Jackson. His death really blindsided me. My sister and I spent an hour on the phone just reminiscing about them both.

Thank you for the heartfelt blog CAROL..and I pray that today is a happier day.

GOLDIE: Congrats on FIRST! Way to go!! :D

    G'Morning CAROL!

  11. Good Morning Zona..

I did the same, I was talking to my cousin and remembering..

I def don't think he had a heart attack because of blocked arteries, I surely think it had to do with the meds he was taking, to many meds, or a mixture of meds, will make your heart race and then stop.. that was the case with Danny Gans, Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith..and many more..

  15. Damn! I missed Carol! Great summary of yesterday's events, C!

Goldie: I loved "Thriller", especially Billie Jean and Beat It! What fantastic dance songs! And Farrah? Well, I pretended to lust after her in that poster with the best of them!

Good morning, Zona (have a great trip)!

  16. Didn't I read yesterday that Zona and Dianne are getting together?

  17. Morning Glories!

Wohoo! Goldie got first! I would have been in the running but Ritchie called this morning from Wyoming!

Carol I think the internet problems are from so many people logging on about MJ's death. Lots of traffic. I had a heck of a time last night and just gave up.

It is sad and weird that people that I grew up watching on TV are starting to die off. I have kind of a detached feeling when I read about celebrity deaths.

Farrah was so sad as she fought so hard to battle cancer.

MJ was a shock but in reflection it isn't. I really kind of felt like I did with Anna Nichole Smith a bit like watching a train wreck these last few years and knowing there was nothing you could do and the out come would be very bad.

I agree with you I think the cause of death will be prescription drug related. Very sad.

I have to get hopping as I have much to do today! (((Hugs))) to all of you!

    ReplyDelete
  18. OK, this was inevitable. Somebody was bound to take the sad deaths of yesterday's celebrities and make tasteless and highly offensive jokes out of them. At least none have shown up in the nest. Thank goodness for small favors.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Carol: I believe Michael has found some peace, now that he's in the arms of the Baby Jesus.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Carol...Great blog!! I feel bad about both of them. I wish the media would leave MJ alone. I cannot believe the drivel I heard this morning!!!

BTW...Is it possible that you set blogger for PM????

    ReplyDelete
  21. I too, was gobsmacked at the two recents passings. I flipped on the news this morning and saw a full half-hour devoted to Michael Jackson. The news. Not a mention of Farrah Fawcett. Maybe she was just too normal?

Regardless, it's a loss to those of use who grew up with both these icons. Farrah set the standard for beauty and brains (although I think she had some fun pretended to be ditzy, but was an intellgent woman under that red swimsuit.

I have to think our children't idols will be Puff Dady, PDiddy, or whatever he calles himself today.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh I had to share!

Look who is waving to all of us from Wyoming!

I hope it makes you smile like it did me!

Ok off my behind and to work I go!

  23. Good morning,

I have to leave for work but wanted to say hi.

I hope everyone has a nice day. Safe travels to you Zona, have a great time!

  25. Good morning Carol,Goldie congrats on #1,Zona,Whabbear,LynnD,
    Scirish,bonacci and anyone flying in.

I was up late last night watching specials on MJ & Farrah. It was indeed a sad day. They both left us with good memories. That is the way I intend on remembering them. I would hope my friends & family would do the same about me. I would hate to be the target of bad jokes when I am gone. How many of us would be able to stand the media scrutiny that Ed Mc Man, Farrah, and MJ were under?

I will be in and out today. I have got to have my pedi then get things ready for my Family BBQ tomorrow. All I have to take is table ware, tables and corn on the cob, but all this requires my actually moving lol!
    Have a great day everyone.

BTW I loved the videos and the blog!

  31. Long time, no see! It's just been a super busy summer--that's all I can say. Miss you guys!

Carol, thanks for those memories of Farrah and MJ. It's still so unbelievable.

LynnD, love that picture of little Richie! My gosh, he's grown so much! He's adorable. It was fun talking to you this morning--thanks again!

    Zona and Dianne, have fun!

SacBarb, I hope your son is doing well.

Goldie, have a great time on your vacation--I know you will since you'll be seeing your grandchildren!

Hey, MEK, Tinka, Whabbear, EBJ, Mary, Bonacci and Scirish!

I hope everyone is well--I'm sorry I've missed so much.

I finally figured out how to make time for myself! I invited a friend over to swim today--now I HAVE to get in the pool! Yea! lol

    ReplyDelete
  32. Goldie Congrats on first today! And you even read the blog first? Wow!

LynnD Your little Ritchie is so adorable! Thank you for sharing that pic.

Sandie I've missed seeing you here. Enjoy your day in the pool.

    Bear Tsk. tsk. ;)

Zona Wishing you a smooth flight. Give Dianne an extra big hug from me too.

Carol Thank you for the blog today remembering Farrah and Michael Jackson. Shirley Thanks for finding the vids for today, too. I know the news has spent most of their time on Michael's passing and I guess that is because he was a pop icon for over 40 yrs and was still extremely popular world-wide, plus his death was such a shock and with questions as to "why"? 50 is so young, really. On the other hand, maybe it is how it was always meant to be. I cannot image Peter Pan aging into a whithered old man, can you? I greatly admire the courage that Farrah displayed during the last two years of her life. I am so sorry that she had to go through that. I hope in the end she will have accomplished what she wanted to by bringing more attention to colon/rectal cancer and perhaps more funding for research. She was at the height of her popularity as an Angel, however, she had some really good acting chops, as evidenced in "The Burning Bed", a subject very meaningful to me. I don't think she ever got the credit for her acting abilities that she deserved.

I see you all and am waving to each and everyone of you, even if I am too lazy to type each of your names. LOL

Carol~ wonderful blog! I'm glad they are both in a better place, but it's still so sad for their families.

Bear~ I've received three text msgs today....really bad jokes (okay...so one was funny!)

Di and Zona~ Have fun this weekend....(Zona....hope she lets you out of the basement!)

Iteach~ I always pray for your family....in fact...told hubby about your hubby last night over dinner~

okay.....now the lortab is kicking in....night-night~

    hi to everyone!!!~

  41. MEK, I was anaware that Farrah was featured on another program. I am not a TV watcher, and I based my comments on what I saw in the 30 minutes or so of news that I watch approximately every month.

Regardless of how I feel about anyone, it's always hard to see their passing. I will raise a can of Mountain Dew to Ed, Michael and Farrah in farewell and best wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Tina, what is lortab? If it's something that knocks you out, does anyone else know?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have to leave for an appt..

    but -

Bonacci - i hope you didn't take my comment wrong - I was just letting you know that I was EXCITED (and shocked) to see that Access Hollywood didn't do the MJ thing like everyone else was doing.. it was extremely touching...

I'm sure none of the networks quite knew what to do with two icons dieing on the same day!!

    waving howdy to all -

  44. Ok kids I have one room clean from top to bottom. I am thinking about roping it off so no one will enter and use it! I only have about 7 more to go. Crap!

Iteach I said a couple of prayers for you and Mr. Iteach. Fingers and toes crossed!

Mr. Lynn D and I are getting ready to head out and take the other two grandsons to see Transformers. I am so excited! NOT, but it is always fun with the kids. It is the movie choice I can do without! LOL

Thank you all for your comments on sweet baby Ritchie! I think he is adorable too! I might just be a tad biased tho.

  45. LynnD~ forgot to tell you...Ritchie is freaking cute~

    Bonacci~ Lortab is a gift from God! It's a pain killer!~

Before I could fall asleep, hubby came home and wanted to go to dinner....so I went with him, and watched him eat! The gaping hole in my mouth hurts like a mo-fo!~ I'm now having my dinner...Jamba Juice~

  46. Ok, I am officially on Michael Jackson overload. OMG!! Every channel I turn to is something about him. Even the sports channel. Enough already! Two other people died this week and I'm not hearing anything about them now.

    ReplyDelete
  47. When I started looking for videos last night it was fun to come across the Ultra Brite toothpaste commercial. She was really good in the Burning Bed too. But I really liked Charlie's Angels.

Has anyone heard where MJ's kids are and who will take over raising them? I heard a report that said the pictures the media has been showing of the kids may not actually be MJ's kids. Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Congrats on 1st Goldie! According to my records this is your first time at 1st. WOOHOO!!!!

Good evening also to Goldie, Carol (thanks), Zona (have fun at Dianne's), Whabbear, Lynn D (adorable grandson), Scirish, Bonacci, EBJ, Mek, Mary, Tinka, Sandie, Just_Lin, Iteach (fingers crossed) and Tina (sorry your gaping hole hurts).

    Glad you liked the videos.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tina, did you have oral surgery? Lortab, huh? The only painkiller Ive had in recent years is a sadistic medic telling me, "This isn't going to hurt" when he set a broken bone. A delayed reaction from me, then lots of bad words I'm not going to say here.

I never did let him set the other bone.

    I hope ypu feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Everyone..

    Shirley..
I have heard that his kids are with MJs mother Katherine at the moment, I have not heard any rumors that they are not his children. I guess we will have to wait and see were they will end up..

    Tina...
Sorry about your gaping hole.. or should I be happy!!! LOL

    Mek..
I was glad to see something on Farrah too. I feel as Shirley does, MJ overload.. The more I read and see, I realize now that MJ was a addicted to drugs, so much that it killed him, just as it did to Anna Nicole Smith.. Quite Sad..

and not really sure why the president had to mention MJ in his speech.. Farrah and Ed died and yet nothing..

It is almost like we ok the drug use.. The same with Amy Winehouse, she won the grammy last year, and I remember how sicken I was by it, as she is drugged up all the time..

When did this abusive become acceptable??

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am having a hard time keeping up with all the goings on here at the nest. I've been away on business, time traveling. I will return last week.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Mek, no insult taken. I based my opinion on 30 minutes of news (maybe a little less). I just thought that MJ was getting the coverage because he was weird and Farrah wasn't (comparatively speaking, of course).

  56. Lynn..

OMG.. Richie.. is just adorable, he is getting so big.. he is perfect.. Thanks so very much for sharing..

I hope my morning, you will know where you are, and you can tell me thru a comment..

  63. Carol this morning I was watching Good Morning America before I left for work. The first hour was all Michael stories.

Not once did I hear Farrah mentioned.

She could have been in the second hour, I wasn't home for it.

I guess it's because his death was a complete shock, totally unexpected, and hers was something that was known to be coming.

I listened to the 911 call that has been released, so, so sad.

Bonacci, if you have ever heard of Vicodin, then Lortab is a stronger dose of that. They are both Hydrocodone. They are wonderful pain killers. People get very addicted to it, unfortunately.

Goldie, I forgot to congratulate you on 1st today!

Scirishy I think the blog should get posted in the evening too, then there is a chance that I could get 1st! haha

Nancy the kitty went for her shots today and did very well.

This was her second trip to the vet this week. I took her in on Tues. and she apparently clawed herself in the eye and is on eye drops for a week.

She had to go back today to get the eye rechecked.

She weighs 2 lbs 3 oz today, when we brought her home 3 weeks ago she was 1 lb 5 oz. She is getting big!

It is supposed to be in the 100s this weekend, ugh.

  81. OK.. I am all packed, hope my suitcase does not weight more than 50pounds.. :O)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Carol, I wasn't messin' with you. Well, maybe a little. I used the same tactic when someone told me I was late paying my water bill. I admit you were nicer about it than she was. In her defense, I'd previously tried to pay with a drawing that I myself, valued at the exact amount that I owed. Maybe she would have accepted it as payment if it was anatomically correct.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Tina, I didn't want Mr Tina to "fall in" lol. Poor Tina the drugs have impaired her funny bone lol!

  88. As you know looking for a marketing job has been hard on hubby.

He has a couple of temp. jobs with marketing, but nothing full time.

So then he decided to go back to school to be a math teacher. If all works out he could be one this time next year.

But now the perfect marketing job for him is out there and he interviewed for it today. He had just about given up on looking at marketing jobs, but this was too good to be true. He will find out in two weeks if it is meant to be..

This all has been such a emotional roller coaster.

Thanks so much for the crossing, prayers, and good thoughts.

CAROL: We have been getting "lap dances" but we can't do the other laps here as the pool is in Arizona!

We went to dinner for my granddaughters birthday dinner tonight (the first of a couple) and now we are home. We took a nap first thing after lunch. We are kind of old...even ZONA.

Just talked to TINA and she sounds wonderful...like her mouth is full of something...we didn't dare ask what...

Ok, now I am going to post this and let ZONA talk...HERE'S ZONA....

Carol: Great blog, very sad day indeed. If you get a chance, go and read Lisa Marie Presley's blog about Michael. So heartfelt and well written. She said he knew. I imagine he did.

I was glad to see they replayed Farrah's story tonight.

    Going to read comments.

I was a teen beat fan. Remember all that you do too.

  104. Didn't the dentist say to just keep it in for a couple of hours or so?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Tina Do whatever the dentist told you to do. I hope you are able to sleep well tonight and that it doesn't hurt anymore in the morning.

Geez, I used to stay up until 3 or 4 and here it is barely midnight and I'm yawning. I was running around doing a lot of things today so I guess that's why I'm so tired now.

I'm calling it a night. Sweet dreams to all you HOoters.

  113. Here is today's blog.

    Oh The Joys of Summer!

I told you it was only a few days away and now it's here. Yeah! There's so much to do..let's have fun! What shall we do first? Maybe a walk in the woods. That's sure to result in either poison oak, poison ivy, lime disease or a run in with a skunk. There's nothing like a nice long cool bath in tomato juice to end a perfect summer day. Oh the joys of Summer!

I know, let have a picnic. I'll start cooking the chicken pieces, then I'll boil the eggs for sandwiches, devil eggs and salad. After that I'll make a chocolate cake, cookies and maybe some brownies (just regular ones...afterall kids will be there). I'll have to pick up some ice for the cooler. I better pick up a cooler too. By the time we load everything in the car we should be off by suppertime tomorrow! Yeah a picnic! There's nothing like sitting on the ground, swatting blackflies, horseflies and any other flies that pass (and let's not leave out the wasps and bees) by on a hot sticky summer day eating potatoe salad and chicken that the ants have already feasted on. Oh the joys of Summer!

Lets talk about those nice hot, sticky, sweltering days of summer where just reading a book can make you sweat buckets. Sticking to the furniture is always fun too. Oh and we can't forget the second and third degree burns you get from your carseats. Then hubby comes home and wants you to turn the oven on and make him a five course meal. That results in hubby getting an unexpected swim in the pool, after which he decides take out is a much better idea. He's so thoughtful! Oh the joys of Summer!

We have been for a walk in the woods, had a picnic and watched hubby swim. I think it's time for the beach!! Lets load everything in the car (and I do mean everything!). Beach balls (which will blow away or get busted), towels, blanket, extra clothes, extra sandals, water toys (which will blow away or get busted), snacks and juice (we love feeding the ants!), lawn chairs, hats, sunscreen (waterproof for children and adults), swimsuits (shorts and a t-shirt for me thank you very much) and lets see...oh yeah, lots of screaming, energized kids. Those sweet loving kids will probably want to and will bring half the beach home with them and you will spend the day cleaning sand out of every corner of your car and house. Oh the joys of Summer! We do have Fall to look forward to! Have a nice Summer!!

  114. Good morning Tinka, Mek and Goldie! I think this means that Tinka gets 1st, so congrats on 1st Tinka!!

I could have posted my blog sooner but I kept thinking that Carol would fix it, them I realized she was off to the beach today.

I'm not sure what Carol would have posted for QOTD but I'm sure it would have involved Tina's gaping hole! I hope you feel better today Tina.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dianne and Zona I hope you are taking lots of pictures. Go easy on Mr. D, he probably isn't use to two wild women! Lol! Have fun girls!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Shirley? Is there a port-a-pottie included somewhere?? I can go on the picnic then.......

    Good morning to you too!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Good Morning Shirley and Goldie- Now I know I am not losing my mind. There is life in the nest.

Shirley - Another great blog. You can sure come up with the funny ones. You are very talented. I do love summer though. It is all too short out here.
I am sitting at the window watching a doe and a fawn across the street. I hope they stay by the trees or they will get run over. We get the odd cougar that comes down from the mountain. It is a beautiful animal but very scary if it's hungry. We have encroached on their terrain and we have to live with them.

Is everyone busy today. Zona and Dianne please check in.

Shirley - Thanks for giving me 'first'. It's my first 1st since last year.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I must water my planters on the deck. They are getting dry. I will check back and see if life returns to the nest in full force.
