Potpourri

by Iteach

Writing blogs for the nest have always been fun for me, however for the first time ever I have writer's block. I have a lot of random thoughts, but I can't see to formulate a paragraph on any certain topic. My head keeps jumping from thought to thought like a pinball. So then I thought, why don't I write down all my thoughts and you can pick anyone of them to respond too. I think it is an easy way out, but it may be fun. Now, remember these are just thoughts and my head has been very busy lately. Here we go...........

-My grandpa has been on two dates in the past week. He is in his late eighties and my grandma just passed away in Jan. My mom and her sister are beside themselves. I wonder if I should buy him condoms for his birthday?

- Why do my cramps hurt more as I get older?

- Should I start buying organic food or is it all hype?

- Another factory is closing down in our town, will the economy ever turn around.

- I really need to get off the computer and clean.

- I think tomorrow I should start another diet.

- My neighbor keeps telling me to buy gold for an
investment. Is he right?

Okay, I could go on, but it is time to cook dinner. So feel free to respond to any of my random thoughts. Oh, and BTW what should I cook for dinner? :)

  9. Morning Glories!

Yay Birdee in first! Comment Block? LOL

    Hi MEK!

Iteach I say your Mom and sister need to put things in perspective. In his late 80's and up for some romance. I realize your Grandma passed away not to long ago, but I think Grandpa realizes he is on limited time. Let him have fun before the time comes. Maybe a date basket with condoms included! LOL

Cramps hurt more as we get older because we have just not suffered enough as women.

Go organic if you can afford it!

The economy will turn around, I just hope I am alive to see it happen.

Damn cleaning gets in the way of freaking computer time! Life is short so clean when the mood hits!

Tomorrow sounds good to me! Send me your diet menu and I might start it with you.

Is your neighbor a miner? Does he want you to to invest in his gold or in gold as a general concept? Gold is good but it has it's ups and downs too!

Dinner should be Pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon! Cake and ice cream for desert. What? You are starting your diet tomorrow and you will need all of the strength you can get!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Birdee..

You never need to comment, you can just stop by show you fuzzy self, poop on us and leave..

  16. Happy Monday Owls.

I am up early this morning and I just medicated my son and he went back to sleep, so I am taking advantage of these few minutes to comment.

Iteach, I think it is good that your grandpa is getting out and socializing. I hope your Mom knows that it doesn't mean he has forgotten your grandmother. It means that he loved your grandmother and he knows she wouldn't want him to be lonely. I'm not sure about the condoms, though. That might be a little much for your Mom. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  17. Carol...I think that is blocked too!!! LOL j/k

  18. Ooopsies the coffee is zinging through my veins!

  19. Have to share:

I signed into my phone at 7:04am! I tried to sign into the computer but my monitor said "no signal, check connections!" I thought CRAP! So I checked the connections to the computer and then got under the desk to check all the plugs....damn it's filthy under there! and since the computer in front of me also plugs in on my side, I checked under there as well. I was filthy! I even disconnected my phone and had to wait for it to initialize. Well, I couldn't fix the problem, so I called our Master Control Room to see if they could send someone to fix it. They know me. Susan answered the phone and after all the niceties.....I explained my problem. In a sweet, calm voice, Susan simply asked me if my computer was on! OMG!!!!! It's Monday!!!!~

    ReplyDelete
  20. iteach, when my FIL started dating after my MIL died, it was hard for his son's to deal with too. It was hard for him to be alone after all those yrs of marriage. I think it's harder for men to alone than women. IMHO

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey the chia pet is back! Congrats on 1st Birdee! Sorry about your blockage.

  22. Birdee...congrats on first~

  35. Morning Sacbarb! Happy to see you pop in for a bit! I had to hit the coffee pot and realized it was empty and had to make more!

Hi Tina! Hehehe I am laughing my fat butt off. Is the computer on! ROFLMAO!

    Hi Shirley!

Ok kids I have to get dressed as I have to make a dash to the food bank for paper work. Be back later.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Shirley, Sacbarb, Tina♥♥♥

    maybe I can steal some dinner idea's too! and...some comment's too...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. My grandpa's first day was on a Friday night. Then the next morning the cemetary caretaker called to tell us that somehow grandma's stone was moved.

I have no idea how a cemetary stone can be moved, but the caretaker thinks it was a gang of kids.

Well, my mom is totally convinced that my grandma in heaven did it, because of grandpa's date.

I opened my mouth and then shut it. I could tell from that mom look that I wasn't going to put any sense in her, yet.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Iteach I think we all have a bunch of random thoughts floating around in our heads. Most of us don't have a clue what to do with them. Writing them down is a start I guess.

Don't even get me started on cramps! I believe my 8 week period from hell may finally be slowing down or(dare I say it) coming to an end. Cross your fingers.

DIETS DON'T WORK.Eat what you want, but eat smart and in moderation and move more. I once lost 121 pounds that way. It works.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I heard a lot about organic crops during my ag. class, but organic food I noticed is just a little higher.

I just wondered if anyone noticed a difference in themselves by eating only organic.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm gonna leave for a bit..I cleaned and did yardwork the last few day's and I'm so damn sore...
at least I can rest without cluttering my mind with all the crap that that used to be on my to do list...

glad I finally got here to chat with you all for a little bit..

I'll try and get back here later.

Good Morning to all that fly in later!!

    Love ya all♥♥♥

    ReplyDelete
  41. Shirley, I moved twice yesterday! Two nice long walks and I enjoyed myself. I'm actually looking forward to doing some more moving today. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just read an article yesterday that if you mixed fresh parsley with your foods that your cramps will go away.

Has anyone done that? I might give it a try..........

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bye, Birdie!

MEK, enjoy your walk with Tug!

Can't wait to hear about the new addition to the MEK furcrew family.

    ReplyDelete
  44. As for a dinner menu...hmmmmm...how about spaghetti and meatballs. The kids could help roll the meatballs. You could have ice cream sundaes for dessert that the kids could put the toppings on. Don't forget the garlic bread.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Carol that menu sounds totally decilious.

Good Morning, Barb, I'm still sending prayers to your son. :)

Tina, you are such a goof. ~

Lynn, how is the food bank going?

    ReplyDelete
  46. OMG! Where is K-girl? It's getting close to 69. If she gets this one she will be tied with EBJ. OHHHHH the drama!!!! Who will get it?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good morning everyone. Not sure who is here yet. I will bbl Have to catch up on 70 comments already! Hope there are some races-to-numbers involved lol!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Holy cow, there were only 2 small races in the nest this morning! Not bad for nesters being blog & comment blocked!
Carol, you could write about your morning bowl movement & I would be happy lol!! Love yah!

Birdee yea! you made # 1 (not referring to above statement)

MEK,glad the little slept all night. BTW whats the name?

On cramps, Yoga breathing always helped. I think it was relaxing the muscles and deep breathes that did it.

    Dinner menu for iteach:
meatloaf burgers on a plate with mac & cheese, cottage cheese with fruit & `smores for dessert.

SacBarb, still keeping you & your Son in my prayers. I am loving that you are with him. You are such a good Mom. Don't forget to take care of yourself!

Tina, Are we a little fuzzy from all the "happy meds"?

    Lynnd Love you dinner!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Good Morning Everyone.
Wow ! I turned on the computer and there were 72 comments already. Everyone must be in the nest. I will feed my family and be back to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good Morning Hooters!
76 comments this early?? WOW- busy little owls.....

Iteach- I love that Granpa is dating! Did you know that the STD rate is the highest ever in senior, especially in Florida. Perhaps that condom isn't a bad idea.....

    ReplyDelete
  51. I read the blog and the comments but there are so many I can't possibly even list all the owls this morning. Is everyone on "Speed" or is it just that kind of day?

Iteach - I loved your blog. I will try and answer them all as the day goes by. As for your grandfather, I say, "Good on him". He wants to live. I have an aunt who lost her husband 30 years ago and she is still grieving. It is so sad to watch.
I am sure he doesn't need condoms. However I have heard that Aids is very prevalent in the Retirement homes. There are so few men they are now (because of Viagra) having a great time with all those old ladies.

Tina - I did the same thing with my new ipod. I followed all the instructions as to how to download songs and books. Nothing worked. Then I discovered I hadn't turned it on. When I did, I found all the songs and books had been downloaded just waiting for me to turn it on. This went on over a period of days. Senior moment? I think so.

I will continue later. I want to start making my bread to go with the jam I made yesterday. I want to start so I can be finished by 1:00 and still have a nap.

    Be back later.

    ReplyDelete
  52. OMG! Did you guys know that June was Candy Month? I didn't and there is only today and tomorrow left! I have no candy in the house! How could I have missed this? I wonder if I stuck some chocolate chips in peanut butter if it would be the same as eating a Reeces Peanut Butter Cup? Only one way to find out. Make sure you have some candy today!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Tinka, Warm bread and jam sounds wonderful! I made two batches of strawberry jam a few days ago. My Nieces in college love it!

    Hi Goldie!

    ReplyDelete
  54. iteach~ Yes....buy him some....and spaghetti for dinner~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  55. Shirley, candy is a must here! I try to buy the bite size so I don't get carried away! Now Chocolate is a different story.....never enough here!

Oh, now that makes sense. Our Michigan State University is going for the largest Guinnes World Record slab of fudge today!

  56. Good morning!

    Wow 80 comments already!

Congrats on 1st today Birdee! Good to see you again!

Iteach, I think it's great that your grandpa is dating again. He must feel the time is right, and that's what matters.

It's too hot to cook, so how about sandwiches, cole slaw and pickles?

We are in for another 100+ day, it's already very warm.

Hope everyone has a nice day today!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Shirley, thanx for the info on candy month.

I think we have some of those miniature candy bars, they are stashed for the chocolate cravings!

The cravings still come, even tho the "rag" doesn't! haha

Oh, we also have MR. EBJs frozen chocolate covered bananas, do those count?

    ReplyDelete
  58. My bread is rising so I feel good.

Iteach - Don't worry. When your cramps start getting worse you know you are one year closer to not having them any more. You will have many years of freedom.
I think you should barbecue hamburgers for dinner. Get an early start on your July 4th celebrations.

    Must clean up my mess.

Zona and Dianne - Have fun.

VIG - Call me when you have a break.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I feel badly that I haven't said Good Morning to everyone so here goes.

Good Morning Birdee (Congrats on being first), Carol, Mek, Lynn,
SacBarb, Tina, Shirley, Iteach, Mary, and East Bay J. I hope you are having a fun day.

    ReplyDelete
  60. It is a beautiful day here in Victoria. It's warm, sunny with green and flowers everywhere. I am inviting anyone who would like to fly in this afternoon and have fresh bread, strawberry jam and English tea. The front door is open.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I am getting excited about our July 1st celebrations - only 2 more days to go.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Before I clean up the mess from my bread, I think I will make another batch of strawberry jam. I am on a "domestic kick" these days.

    ReplyDelete
  63. We had a lovely dinner at my daughter's yesterday. My son-in-law is head chef at a famous restaurant here. He sure can cook.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think I will count to 100 before I clean up. Any one up for a race?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Iteach - I LOVE random thoughts - thanks for sharing yours...

and I am always wondering WHAT to fix for dinner - we are in a rut.. seems we have the same things over and over again..

waving howdy to those that landed after me...

SacBarb - good to see you...

    Lynn - good answers....

Shirley - your little pictures sure are making me crave things..

Tina - "is it on" - OMG...

Dianne - I think one little John Elway jersey is enough - but thanks for the thought!!
    :-)

Mary - Tinka - Goldie - EBJ - Birdee and cpgem...

    howdy!!!

all the dogs are sleeping - SO, let sleeping dogs lay/lie!!!

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Sorry East Bay J. I stepped on you. My number 98 was really 100. Sorry sweetie.

    ReplyDelete
  67. This old computer is too slow to do a good march

    ReplyDelete
  68. Tinka Congrats on the race to 100...

EBJ - good try!!! don't you hate the dreaded FOAD monster!!!

I was typing away and missing a good battle!!!

okay - i need to get some stuff done while everyone else is sleeping..

    bbl

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mek - This morning I was not as envious of your new puppies as I was yesterday. This morning Tia ate half of a lunch meant for someone else. She grabbed the bag and took it to her crate. Needless to say she is really "in the dog house" now. I am trying to get 3 pounds off her and she pulls a trick like that. I told her if she had been my first 'fur baby' she would have been my last. Tango is such a lady. I don't think Tia ever will be. She won first prize at Puppy school for not touching cookies when she was tempted but nothing is safe if she finds it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. MEK this computer is loaded with pictures and videos and that is what I think is causing it to chug along.

Then a foad while it was chugging!

It might just be tired, and want to go to computer heaven.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Iteach - I am no help in getting you to leave the computer to clean. I am doing the exact same thing. Dough is hardening on all my 'tools'.
    Must get going.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi Birdee! Congrats on number one today!

iteach I really enjoyed your random thoughts. I've been having writer's block, too. Grandpa will never be able to have the long, loving relationship that he had with his wife but he deserves to have some joy and affection while he still can. Good for him, I say.

    I'm voting for spaghetti. : )

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tinka I can smell your fresh baked bread all the way down here in Pacifica! You are so industrious. I wish some of that would rub off on me.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tinka you have mentioned "rising" and "hardening", Carol is going to think you're talking about PORN!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. G'morning Everyone!

ITEACH: Your random thoughts really made me smile this morning! I can identify with ideas bouncing around inside your head like pinballs..it happens to me all the time. In fact, I think it's the norm for me!

Here's my pinball thought responses to your pinball thought questions:

Cramps hurt more cuz we are just soooo sick and tired of them. I mean if you think about it..38 years (for me) that's frickin' enough already!

I've been eating organic grapes..and they are delicious..but I've never eaten anything else completely organic.

I can only pray the economy will turn around..it's scary out there.

Problem with trading the computer for cleaning is that the computer is a heck of a lot more fun! I think this is a battle never to be won!

You'd think with all the diets I've been on, one of them would have worked. I think maybe just moving is the key..

First I'd have to have the money to buy the gold to invest in!! HA!

You know what sounds good to me for dinner? A chef salad..yumm!

Thanks fpr the cute blog today ITEACH...and the huge smiles!

    ReplyDelete
  76. BIRDEEE!! Congrats on FIRST!!

    LYNND: THANK YOU!! :D

TINA: LOL! I just posted my comment on the wrong blog..yep..it's Monday!

TINKA: I'm going to play the Wizard of Oz slot..I'm sure it'll be fun! I'll see if there's an Elvis one and play it just for you!

OK..DI is taking me to the casino where I'm going to try and win some money! Most importantly though, I'm gonna have FUN! :D

Waving HI to everyone..hope ya'all have a wonderful day!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh..and MEK.. I'm bringing my camera!! I even charged the battery! DI says I can take lots of pics in the casino! :D

    ReplyDelete
  78. Just_Lin -My kitchen is half clean, I just punched down my bread and finished the jam. I am really not that industrious As soon as my kitchen is clean and the bread is out of the oven, I will probably not do another bit of work all day. I would like to blame it on my age but I think it's just plain laziness. I love my afternoon naps with my kitty and 'fur babies'. I put DVD's on until I fall asleep. I am working on the "I Love Lucy" series. I just adore her.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Zona-My-Baby - I am so glad you are having fun. I hope you win millions on the Elvis slots. If you do, buy a small plane and then you can visit often.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Iteach - I think organic is great but you have to be careful to check out as to whether things are really organic. There are a lot of frauds I think. I go by VIG's rule - always buy produce grown within 100 miles of your home. Did I get that right VIG or is it 50 miles?

    Back to the kitchen humdrum.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ya know I am at a slight time disadvantage here.....but it was only Tina, but she has been hustling. Where does that put her in the mix of things.

iteach I call that being fragmented, and it happens often to me.

k off to read the comments, and hiding from the boss as I made a
    30K kind of mistake......rut roh

    ReplyDelete
  82. By a 30K mistake I mean we all forgot to delay a shipment of product that due to the lack of business we do not need. So now I will have 912 additional pails of product that I have nowhere to store it. Tina has seen where I work, and it is at the end of a pier with little storage. I already have 1340 pails of this stuff on site (stacked 3 pallets high in some places). The boss was not pleased with this information this morning. My only saving grace is he leaves on vacation in 3 days for a month!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Damn... did I shut the blog down again?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Congrats on first Birdee

My random fact: Weight Watchers fudge bars are one point. Drumstick brand ice cream is 8 points. I just ate 3 WW fudge bars and I still feel dang good about that, considering I could have 5 more and still not catch up to ONE drumstick...hahahahahaha.

I only have 11,362 steps today and I have a nasty headache. I will walk tonight with my sister.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Shirley: Is ice cream considered candy?

k-girl: oopsies! Glad Ur boss is leaving though..lol. I hope he has a really NICE vacation and comes back happy.

iteach: Great blog. I love random thoughts like that. My daughter loves randam facts. She always has some. She loves the Doctors show and Manswers because they have little random facts. Manswers is the funniest show ever!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Mek: Glad to hear the puppy slept all night. Sounds like he/she is a good one! Did you say what breed he/she is? Did you say if he/she was a he or a she?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Delayed spell check: randam should be random. I do know how to spell, i swear.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hey Owls!

Ms iteach....I love your awesome random thoughts! Thanks for a great blog! I try to eat organic fruits and vegetables when I can. Yup, Tink, it's the 100 mile rule. I try to eat food that has been grown within a 100 mile radius and has been grown without pesticides. That's why I looooooove me some farmer's markets!!!!

Hope everyone is having a marvelous Monday!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. iteach...

I as well use organic as often as possible. Better taste, no spray wax/pesticides on the fruit and veggies, and most farmer's markets have organically grown stuffs and the farmer's markets are usually alot less expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  90. K-girl don't worry about Tina, she is three behind you in the 69's.

Bebbi I think I would consider ice cream candy if it were chocolate flavored. Everything with chocolate in it should be considered candy. jmho

I'm sitting here fighting to keep my eyes open so I think I will head to bed. Good night everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hi guys.. I just got home from the gym... It is def getting easier.. I am excited.. I just had dinner.. and now eating cherries, while watching Jon and Kate plus 8..

    I will be back..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Breaking News..

    The cherries taste like shit..

    Yuck!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Lynn D: Literally, I wouldn't have answered any if iteach's questions much different than you!

    Interesting, no?

    ReplyDelete
  94. iteach: Those were great ramblings!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Carol That's great that your exercising is becoming easier. You must be toning up your muscles. I wish I could get motivated to do that. I'm still concentrating on counting calories. At work today, one of the veterinarians asked me if I've lost weight. :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. More breaking news..

Jon and Kate plus 8 is making me sad..

I think I need something sweet.. I am going to search the kitchen..

Okay I'm going to try all organic at the next grocery trip. We have a farmer's market in our hicktown and I will have to see if any of our locals do organic.

  114. Iteach: That is exactly how my daughter feels about cherries..lol. I personally love blackberries. They remind me of when I was young and picked raspberries and/or blackberries all the time in Indiana.

  116. On Montmorency (red tart) cherries:

The good news about the health benefits of cherries continues to increase. According to ongoing research, Montmorency tart cherries are a rich source of antioxidants, which can help fight cancer and heart disease. In addition, there are beneficial compounds in Montmorency tart cherries that help relieve the pain of arthritis and gout. Other fruits and vegetable do not have the pain relief of tart cherries. While the research on the exact mechanisms that give the pain relief is ongoing, many consumers are discovering that tart cherry juice and other cherry products can stave off pain. The Cherry Advantage Health News Update has detailed information on the health benefits of cherries. The current issue and back issues are available here.

Many people have discovered that 100% ready to drink tart cherry juice helps relieve the pain of arthritis and gout. Others say it cures headaches and some say it helps them sleep better. Now there is a new brochure all about cherry juice . It's called "The Natural Choice: Tart Cherry Juice." This brochure, produced by the Cherry Marketing Institute (CMI), gives consumers health benefits information, nutrition and usage ideas.

  117. ITEACH: Have you ever tried the Cherry Slush from Sonic with extra cherry..yummy? I love cherry flavored things too.

ZONA and I have spent most of the night trying to teach me how to put pictures on myspace and facebook...I am a hard person to teach!

ZONA went to her first casino today and was no Mary on the slots! BUT...she came home with more money than I did so I guess it was beginners luck. One lesson and she was gone! (she was an easy person to teach)

I think we come on here too late at night as we can't find anyone to talk to us. We might have our days and nights mixed up. :)

  119. lol -

our new puppy is a boy and we don't know if we are going to change his name yet..

He is a shelter puppy - his litter was found abandoned in the desert - they estimated them to be only 5 weeks old at the time.

He was adopted at 8 weeks - but returned - apparently, they were neglecting him (long story short) - their friends kinda turned them in and he was returned..

i have been looking at this little picture on their website for a month now - and kept wondering WHY he hadn't been adopted......

When we went there yesterday - the volunteer at the front desk got SO excited that we were there to see him...........

SO - we have given another "wayward child" a home..

today was exhausting....... but - hey - it took almost 4 months for our other one to "settle in" - so I'm in it for the long haul!!

    Patience - and - Calm - and - assertive!!!

okay - I'm off to bed...

    niters...
