When I worked in Customer Service, I was never able to take advantage of special opportunities at work. An email would come out asking for volunteers for this or that, and anyone working in my department wasn't eligible because we were short staffed and needed on the phones.
Last week, an email came out asking for volunteers to go to Japan to help with training. I was surprised to find that my new department was included, especially since there are only 10 of us. I immediately put in for the job. It begins March 1st and goes thru June 4th. Each person chosen wouldn't stay the entire time, but would have to commit to at least two weeks. I really didn't think I would be chosen to go, but it has been fun dreaming about it this past weekend.
Yesterday, I ran into a Lead and a Manager. We started talking about the Japan assignment and they told me that so far, 50 people had expressed interest in the positions from our office alone. They were already weeding out people who definitely were not competitive and wouldn't be picked to go. Both ladies were very complimentary and told me, "Be careful what you wish for!" It gave me hope and a spring in my step.
Today, when I got to work, my dream was shattered. I had two emails waiting for me. It had been decided, upon further review, that the two new departments were not eligible for the assignment because of "operational needs." I was so stinking bummed! No....that's not right.....I was pissed!!!! Just ask Janice! I kept seeing her duck when I turned her way. It's one thing to be told that you didn't get the job because there are other people more qualified, but to be told that you were able to apply for the job, and then not.....after a freaking week......ugh!!!! So what did I do to get outta my funk? I did what any red blooded American would do! I emailed DeeDee to tell her my whoa's and here is her reply:
well it's my fault.......I had a plan for you to cinch being picked but I just figured you were a shoe-in......don't worry darlin'.....we'll get you a big ol' bowl of rice.....put you in a REALLY small room and give you a pair of chopsticks....it'll be just like being there....just without the fishy smell!!!
There was more to the note, but just that one paragraph had me laughing and made me feel so much better~ DeeDee, you're priceless~

YESSS!!!
ReplyDeleteI must have space-travelled overnight because there's a blog wherein Tina is paying DeeDee a heartfelt compliment. I cannot possibly be on Earth.
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Bonachichi! You are prettiest of all!
Tina that sucks. I suspect the Japanese government put a kibosh on your coming to train their people. I think they are terrified that you would set the Geisha movement on it's ear! You are just to progressive in the Ho movement.
Seriously their loss. I do think it was very wrong for them to get yours and everyone elses hopes up just to dash them. I always wonder about the idiots in exec. positions they never think anything through and cause morale problems left and right. imho
PS Is Janice ok? You didn't kick her or slap her around did you? Janice let us know that you are alive and kicking just wave your hands around so I can see you.
PS Sorry about the stoned blogging yesterday. So far this morning I am clean and sober and will not take the Vicodin unless I am desperate. That stuff really does a number on me. Makes me whacky and nauseated then I pass out. Mr. Lynn D said I was barely coherent when he got home last night just kept mumbling about stones.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeletecongrats on 1st bona!
sorry about them pulling the plug on you tina~ that sucks.
My son is waiting to hear back on an opportunity thru his company to go to South Africa to help a community.
They only choose 10 people, and they had to write a 200 word essay why they should be chosen. Keep your fingers crossed for him!
Good morning!!
ReplyDeleteI truly felt bad that Tina wasn't chosen to go to Japan....but she has made herself indispensable. Her seniority and knowledge works against her in a situation like this....but I think when the rest come back with their horror stories of a tiny island crammed with people.....maybe....
OK...I am just trying to make it sound bad.....for Tinas sake...
But the fact is...OMG JAPAN!!!!I was hoping she would go in the second wave because the cherry blossoms will be blooming in late March....and if you have seen them in D.C. and thought they were pretty...you should see them at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo....three words....oh-my-God!!
And my son was telling me that like the "dollar" stores in the USA...that Japan now has "100 Yen" stores everywhere...lol.....he is a pilot for a major airline and did the DFW-NRT run for quite awhile and is up to date on Japan...I haven't been in 12 years....
Well Tina not getting to go Japan just means that something better is in store for her so we will just wait and see what Delta drops in her lap!!
but you know the worst part is thinking of all the wonderful things she could pick up for card making.......and I really wanted Tina to experience really good silk in every way that you can get it....and I was going to have her bring me back a new batch of silk bath towels.....they are really great for summer.....and that might keep me from ending up with a pair of
Japanese tabi socks
for souvenirs!
Good luck to Kyle, Goldie!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I'm loving the Olympics, but I always had a soft spot for the Winter variety, being Canadian, eh? And then this year, the icing on the cake is discovering Steve Holcomb. Check him out on my FB postings... yum!
He's going for the gold on Friday night!
Also from yesterday, playing catch-up here:
OJ: Well, if you owls have a memory long enough to remember my blog about him and George W, then you know my position on him!
Tiger: I think the situation is perfectly clear. Tiger never wanted us to know anything about his private life, and I'd be happy to keep up the bargain. As in, as somebody posted yesterday, he shouldn't have done the public apology in the first place, because it was all about his private life, which he doesn't want us to know about.
But there's a catch. The one part of the whole Tiger equation that did involve his private life was the sponsorships. He wanted us to think that he had a squeaky clean home life, because that's what brought in the bucks. He WAS lying about the true situation on places like his website, where he was answering fans' questions with falsehoods.
Fair enough. Now that the truth is known, I say, get back out on the golf course, and for the rest of your career, every cent you make will have to come from how you perform there. We won't bother you about your private life, and you won't bother us with corporate endorsements that are built on a house of cards.
Tina: You're turning Japanese, yes, you're turning Japanese, I really think so!
Herro! I so busy, berry, berry busy deez days. Oh bum dear Tina, so solly you not go. I tly make you feer rike you go. I give rove rong time for you.
ReplyDelete('merican translation: Hello! Finally tore myself away from that fake farm to visit. Oh bum deal Tina, so sorry you are not going. I'll try make you feel like you got to go. I love ya, slutbag.)
Hi Guys!
ReplyDeleteTINA: Awwww maaaan..I'm sorry that they pulled the rug out from under you like that! How cool would it have been to go to Japan on the company's dime!! Hopefully they'll change their policies and make these kinds of opportunities available to you on a regular basis in the future. I'm glad DEEDEE was able to put that spring back in your step! :)
BONACHI: Congrats on YESSSSSS! oh..and FIRST! :D
LYNN: Vicodin knocks me out too..that stuff is nasty. I sure hope you are feeling better today.
GOLDIE: Good luck to your son! Keeping fingers and toes crossed for him! :)
DEEDEE: LOL@ the souvenirs!
LOIS: Your farm addiction is making me laugh..and the chickens..omg!
BEAR: I remember! ;)
From 51:
DIANNE: You snuck down to the computer and didn't check your farms!! LOL! I hope you had someone film you singing at the piano bar..what a great 'Singing Blog' that would be! Have fun today in Mazatlan!
If you guys go back and look in A51, you'll see Dianne dropped in early this morning. So nice of her to update us!
ReplyDeleteJ/Lin; If your PC is running slow, it could be for a few reasons, and they're all bad.
Tina, I'm a little sorry you don't get to go to Japan. DeeDee can make it better with her humor though, can't she?
Oh, duh. Zona beat me to Dianne.
ReplyDeleteLynnD, whatever you were smoking yesterday, you were funny as Hell!
Still More from 51:
ReplyDeleteMO: Mr Z's appt went really well..in fact he doesn't have to go back to the doctor unless some kind of unforeseen problem comes up. The doctor doesn't think that will happen though. YAY! Now we just have to pay the bills..lol..
I hope the forecasters are wrong and it's just a little flakey there on Thursday.. ;)
CAROL: We did drive in circles! :D
J/LIN: I'm glad to hear your son got temporary custody..but the school situation sucks. I hope his lawyer can get that straightened out quickly.
Congrats on #1 Bonachichi!!
ReplyDeleteTina, I would have been so disappointed! Japan!! I would love to hang out with people shorter than me! You would have looked like the Jolly Green Giant! Maybe they didn't want you to scare them, ijs.
Truthfully I think DeeDee is right. You have made yourself indispensable.
I bet you will be offered something more down the road.
Goldie, best wishes to Kyle!
Lynnd, if you would have shared we wouldn't have noticed your drugginess lol!!
DeeDee, "souvenirs" cracked me up!
14! I think I had 13 yesterday too!
ReplyDeleteTINA...I'm sorry you wont be able to make the Japan trip. It sux the way they handled that. But, what if your 2 weeks fell during Son # 1's graduation...or during the MWMAG...how would you choose?? LOL!! Seriously, sorry about the disappointment. I'm sure an equally exciting adventure will be afforded to you soon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Bonachichichewy!
ReplyDeleteTina: That is an interesting blog. I am sorry you didn't get the opportunity. I love DeeDees response and so glad you can see the lighter side of everything. That is one thing I love about you. :) They have no idea that they missed an chance to send an excellent person to Japan. You will have other opportunities I am sure. Hugs!
LynnnD: I am going to have to go back and read now. I love drunk/stoned bloggers..they are the BEST. hehe.

J/L..
ReplyDeleteSo glad your son got temp custody, but that commute is awful.. In situations like this it takes a while for everything to get ironed out.. Patience is surely needed, however I know that is easier said then done.. Frustration is front and center.. Hang in there, I have been thinking about you.. glad the kids are with your.. take all the time you need.. we will all be here..
♥♥
Mo..
ReplyDeleteYour right that would have been a tough choice..
Tina..
New is always hard.. give it time..
Zona..
ReplyDeleteWill all this crazy weather it has been hard for us to drive in circles.. the parking lots are full of snow.. so if we drive in circles we end up on a snow pile.. so lately we have a destination in mind..

ReplyDeleteThanks Tina and Bonacci..
oh my goodness.. did you all hear about the trainer that was killed by the whale @ seaworld.. how awful...
ReplyDeleteWe are suppose to get lots and lots of snow tomorrow.. I am sick and tired of this snow.. the airports are a mess.. its a pain in the ass.. I had the most awful day trying to get passengers on different planes and such.. I am hoping it does not get to bad till tomorrow afternoon so I can go to work for a bit..
ReplyDeleteI HATE snow..
Mo.. I think its snowing by you today.. hope its not to much..
Carol~ ya gotta stop wishing for snow!!! I'm so tired of it!!! :)~
ReplyDeleteokay...off to bed now..night all. I was here and now I'm gone..time to head of to la-la land. I hate this SNOW too..CAROL, can we have an Official..I am SICK of the snow DAY?...no blog, just a big ..SNOW SNOW GO AWAY...and Don't EVEN COME BACK ANOTHER DAY!. Thank you for that rant ..this is Bebbi, over and OUT.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me about the trainer at Sea World is that the animal is going to be blamed; Sure, the whale killed her, but the name, "Killer Whale" gives you a hint that maybe it won't be puppy kisses and hugs.
ReplyDeleteNight Bebbi!
ReplyDeleteI loved that Diane checked in! What fun she is having! I loved my last/first cruise!
I have been packing for my trip to Florida on Sunday. I think they have been having cold weather down there! Hopefully I will at least see some sunshine! My Grand son Logan will be close by at baseball training camp. He is going to college on a baseball scholarship. It will be fun watching him down there. Mr Mary is not going with me, so I should have fun lol!
We leave for Vegas March 21st. April 21 I will be going on a Caribbean cruise with my Niece Raquel. The following week end I go to Chi Town! I should be tanned and pooped by then lol!!
Tina, I see your horns burned your nun hat off.
ReplyDeleteBonachichi~ ur a &%*&^(*!!!~ I heard about the whale on my way home from work....and the DJ said the same thing....KILLER whale! duh~
ReplyDeleteI've been called worse... :D
ReplyDeleteI watched Shutter Island last night cuz I couldn't sleep. Then I really couldn't sleep.
ReplyDeleteTina. I'm very sorry about your disappointment. Everything happens for a reason, though, and it just wasn't meant to be. Not this time, at least.
ReplyDeleteCarol. Is it snowing? LOL. Btw, I love the Olympics but haven't been able to concentrate on it as much as usual.
Bonach. Re: my computer; thatks what I'm afraid of. :(

4 old times sake..
ReplyDelete50
Carol, I hope you were able to snooze! I have been watching your weather eek!! We have had snow all week, but nothing like what you are getting!
ReplyDeleteCarol. I hope you are in dreamland and not in Farmville. You are going to be tired in the morning.
ReplyDelete
