Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song)

by Dianne

I wanted today's blog to go along with the blog from SHIRLEY the other day.

I mentioned in my post about losing my good friend last year. I said that I sometimes felt selfish for wishing him back. It's funny because I didn't do that with my parents as their health was so bad and they were in their 80's. My friend Darrell's health was also bad with the cancer but he was close to my age and just a very good friend for so many years. We both had children the same age and I had known him and his wife for a very long time.

I guess what I am asking/mentioning/questioning is, "Am I being selfish?" When I listen to this song by Toby Keith and he's singing about losing his friend....it makes me think the same...."I'm sorry for me". Do any of you ever feel like this or can anyone say how maybe you or I can move along from this feeling. I hope you listen to the whole song as it is also a very nice friendship song.

  1. Dianne it's a natural reaction when someone you love dies to want them back. If that's being selfish then I guess we are all guilty. There will always be times when you wish you could share them with your friend. I have times I wish I could share with my Dad, I just imagine how he would react, or what he would say and it's like he is there with me. It makes me smile. You aren't selfish Dianne, just human and still mourning. (((HUGS)))

  2. Morning Glories!

A lovely morning to our beautiful Shirley!

Dianne I agree with Shirley. It is natural to wish that our loved ones were still here. It is part of the grieving process.

It eases with time, but there are still moments when something happens or life gets joyful or hard and we really miss and wish that person was here to share it with.

I do think that our loved ones are still here when we have these longings and are telling us it is ok and they miss us too.

  3. Happy Sunday, Hooters! Good morning to Shirley (pretty!) and LynnD.

Dianne, that's a profound blog. When someone passes young, we feel as if they didn't finish what they were here for. We want them back.

At some point, we all get that "Mission Complete" stamp and accomplish life. Your Mum & Dad raised kids, grandkids had careers, etc. Your friend I think, didn't get that chance. He's not done and you want him back. No harm in that.

  4. Congrats on first Shirley~!! yay~

From Area 51 - DeeDee, I thought it was a very bad and sad time for you. Sorry to ask you to relive it, I just couldn't remember but I knew it was a lot. May Dolly and her puppies RIP. Hey, did the last two survive? I love Blue Heelers..they are good dogs. And, my Mother absolutely adores Maltese. :) They are the sweetest dogs.

Tina: I am so happy to have brought you pure and absolute delight~!

Dianne: I love that song. I can understand your wanting your friend back. Thanks for sharing this video.

Bonachichi: You said that very well. The "mission complete" thing was right on target.

    Everyone have a wonderful Sunday.

  5. Good morning!

SHIRLEY...you are looking exceptionally beautiful this morning!

DIANNE...If that is selfish, then count me amongst the selfish crowd. I don't think it is, it is just a testament to how much you loved the person.

LYNN...I agree with your comment about just wishing we could still share things with those people we loved but are no longer with us.

BTW, when are you arriving in Chicago?

I have a busy day today and I need to get moving...like that will happen!!!

Oh, I almost forgot...I deleted my MySpace!

  6. DIANNE...I'm sorry I shut down your blog so early in the day.

    I hope I don't shut down Chicago ;(

  7. Dianne: Oh, yes, indeed! I think it's almost all about us feeling sorry for yourselves when a close friend dies. Completely natural, and don't you dare feel guilty!

  9. DIANNE: What a beautiful song..and so true. I miss my mom everyday, and there are times I want so badly to talk to her..to hear her laugh, see her smile. I know she is in paradise, free from pain and worry..but there are some days that I would give almost anything to have her back here again. It may be selfish, but it's also love...and I don't think there's anything wrong with feeling that way.

Wonderful blog today DIANNE, thank you.

  10. SHIRLEY: Congrats on most gorgeous today!

LYNN: I think they are still here too..I really think the veil between here and heaven is very thin, and our loved ones are much closer than we realize.

MO: You're not going to shut down Chicago, you goof..sheesh..LOL!! :D

Waving HI to BEAR, BEBBI and BONACHI!

  11. Happy Sunday Owls.

Dianne, I haven't heard this song before, but I really like it. I agree with everything it says. And I agree with all the comments, too. I miss my Mom everyday, but she had a long life and I believe her mission was complete. I grieve more for those that died all too soon and didn't have that opportunity. I guess that makes me selfish, too.

    P.S. Dianne, you're a pirate!

Shirley, Congrats on being the prettiest today.

Waving to all the Owls. I hope you all have a good day. ♥

  16. (slips in back door and flounces down on divan)(lights cigarette - remembers she quit and snuffs it out in Bebbis purse)

    Good afternoon!!

It is a really beautiful day here today!

Oh Dianne.... the pain will ease and the happy will take over in time....one friend that I think of often...Johnny Vega...salt of the earth....uproariously funny....I called him Juanita...always had me in stitches....
I thought I would never get over my loss when he died at 42.....but I did.....and now his memory keeps me laughing......of course I still miss him.....but I am so full of fantastic memories of him....he didn't leave me empty handed....

It just takes time.....and your friend wouldn't want to you to languish too long....

if you feel like laughing your ass off...watch the video I got from Helen Lawson and posted on Face Book....it is too funny....the "Maria" Re-dub from "The Sound of Music".....

Bebbi...I'll tell you more about Dolly some other time....and sorry about your purse.....it was the closest one....lq

    ReplyDelete
  17. DeeDee: Um, no problem about the purse, it doesn't have much in it anyway. :) I just carry it around for show. I think I picked it up at Walmart off the $3.00 rack~! Well, I am off to work out...been putting it off all day (my kitchen is nice and tidy though). Have a good one everybody and I will catch you on the flip side.

*farts really loud into the divan*..Um, DeeDee, you might not wanna sit there next time, my farts tend to settle deep in the fabric and when someone else sits down the smell wafts to the surface. And, I am known for my stinky ones. ;) I had pepperoni pizza too a little while ago and those are the WORST...excuse me ladies, I am going..might have to stop by the ladies room and wipe after that one. ;) The nice thing is, when I am exercising and have my headphones on, I really believe no one care hear my farts..hehe.

  19. DIANNE - Beautiful song and tribute to a friend. One of my best friends was killed when her car was run over by a semi truck. She was only 39 and her son was only 12 at the time. Taken far too soon. I still miss her....♥ I totally get the line about calling....my cousin Jenny still has her hubby's voice on the answering machine. She doesn't have the heart to delete it. She calls home just so she can hear him. (((hugs))) my friend on an excellent blog. A true testiment to the kind of friend you are.

  25. Quiet blog today. I hope I didn't pull it down with my blog and make it depressing as I didn't really intend to do that...but I guess death will do it.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I love the song. What I feel bad about sometimes that I would even take him back sick for a day or two and that makes me feel terrible about my own thoughts.

I have to tell all of you something so weird. I have talked to his wife since his death and left a couple of messages. One at Christmas and one a few weeks ago. I hven't heard back and decided I would let it go if I didn't hear from her. Yesterday when I was typing the blog and typing Darrell's name my phone rang and when I looked at the caller ID it had his name on it. It stopped me in my tracks for just a second. I let it ring again just so I could see the name again. It was his wife and I just metnioned to her that it seemd strange to see his name on caller ID. She said yes it was their home phone..I let it go at that. I can't get it off my mind that I was typing his name and then it was on caller ID. What do any of you think of that?

Again, thanks for the comments today. Getting ready to go to dinner with my daughter and family to the Melting Pot. It is one of those fondue places...not one of my favorite but they had a special and we are taking the girls for a surprise.

  30. I love this song. I listen to it on the radio station that I listen to all the time. It is normal to want people back that we have lost. I often want my family and friends who have passed to be back here. For example, my daughter is truning 1 next month and I cry still because my grandparents and mother in law are not here to be apart of it. I know in my mind it is better they are no longer suffering. What gives me coffort is knowing they are watching her just in a different way and that they met her before I did. Your friend is with you in your heart and memories that will never be gone and that is a bueatiful thing.

  31. Jodi: It was just a fart, I checked...shew...at least that time it was....

Oh MY, it's drafty in here..

I just came back from Cracker Barrel with my Mom and my son. It was so good. I love their Oven roasted turkey salad with no onions and oil and vinegar dressing...and lots of those yummy crackers. My son was over fixing up his grandma's computer when I was coming back from the Y, so I stopped and got them because they were heading to Cracker Barrel anyway. Gosh, Cracker Barrel is so yummy~~~~!!

I got 15,069 and I am so glad. Gotta go though cause Hubby is calling from Houston.

  33. Dianne..

Love that song, it is sad, but so beautiful..

Is is selfish, I think not. I wish always for ones close to me to be back, I miss them so.. I think we mourn forever, it might not be visible at times, but our heart tells us otherwise.. some however we miss more than others, and thats ok to..

  43. Dianne: That gave me goosebumps when I read that you were writing your friends name when his name came up on caller ID. It sounds like he wanted you to know that he knew you were missing him.

  48. Evening everyone!
Diane, I love that song. I have seen the vid many times.
I often wonder what it would be like to have my high school bff back. She died in a bad car crash when she was 17. She was driving by herself. We used to ride around together checking out guys. It's a miracle that I wasn't with her when she crashed. I would ask her why she was driving so fast on a bad curve! I think there was a little "connection" with the 2 of you when the phone rang. Smile and know that he was thinking of you while you were typing his name.
