My hubby came home late one night and was stunned. He wanted to know why I was watching something real, something current, something important. I never watch Dateline. Then he saw my George and he moved on..."Ahhhh! I get it now! If George is involved, then you'll pay attention!" Sadly, that is true. I had no idea that Sudan was headed for another civil war. I didn't know that the South wants to secede and that if it happens, there will probably be bloodshed because of the amount of oil the south has. If you missed that episode of Dateline, see if you can watch it online or catch it if they re-run it. It was so well done, and if I may say, it'll make you love George even more. George Clooney isn't just another pretty face~

BAMM!!
DEE DEE - Makes me smile to see your BAMM!!! And those choos!!!
TINA - Be still my heart....George is not only GORGEOUS, but also a man of substance ♥
Need to work on my Christmas cards. Got a good start last Friday, but have totally ignored the task since then. I hope everyone has a peaceful Friday ♥
and George better get his butt out of Sudan before the shit hits the fan...
Its not only north and south Sudan at work here. I would imagine the United States is mixed up in there with all the other countries involved because of the oil.....
That country...like many countries in Africa has had nothing but fighting and killing for years. The Brits pulled out in the 50's and since then anything goes....
Remember our Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador being murdered there in the 70's...
The north is Muslim and the south is Christians....these people will war over that bullshit alone...
Remember when our embassies were bombed in 98? In response...we launched cruise missiles striking a terrorism training complex in Afghanistan and destroying a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Khartoum...that reportedly produced nerve gas.
Both targets were believed to have been financed by Osama bin Laden... who was allegedly behind the embassy bombings as well as an international terrorism network bent on destroying the United States.....
I am sorry that Sudan is having trouble and I am sorry that in all these years they still don't know how to put in a decent sewage system....and I am sorry that these movie star types have to feed their ego's while biting off way more than they can chew...
We have bigger fish to fry in the USA right now and if we stick our nose or feet in one more countries crap I am going to have to beat the shit out of someone....
I think I'll go for Bidens wife...that Michelle Obama looks pretty stout!!
Morning glories!
What Deedee said....well except for beating up Jill Biden.
Could some of the damn people in this country look around and see the shit hitting the fan here and give a crap just a little?
Maybe if we got some celebs to actually go out and show what is happening here people just might pay attention. Ooops forgot we seem to have an attention deficit disorder when it comes to our own.
Lynn!
you gonna take Michelle!!??
Deedee no, I think Sarah is more my speed. Hell I saw video of her trying to shoot some poor defenseless animal I can take her! All I have to say to her is, Obama beat you a few times and her empty bumpit would fall right off.
Hmmm... since this seems to be evolving into a political discussion, I'm tempted to just say a cheerful hello to everybody. You know how I hate to get embroiled in political issues!
Not! So here's my two cents on the "should we focus inwardly or outwardly" debate.
My answer is: Both. There is more than enough wealth in the US to provide aid to developing countries out the wazoo, to help them build those sewers and other infrastructure and what have you. All we have to do is send money out to help people in other countries rather than kill them.
There is plenty of money here in the US to pay down our deficit and invest in our own. All we have to do is face up to the fact that we, and in particular, the very wealthiest among us, have to pay for it by eliminating the Bush tax cuts.
Unfettered capitalism concentrates wealth in fewer and fewer hands, eliminating the middle class. The middle class is a product of a progressive tax system, which we used to have here.
Yeah Whabby gets it! I agree let all the tax cuts expire and quit sending our people into wars. Never going to happen but a girl can dream. sigh
and why is it that the rich....people who have worked hard and excelled....should be penalized and not rewarded for their accomplishments...
and if there is so much money for everything here...lets start with the education standards in this country....did anyone happen to see the standards for children in China that are being achieved?? It was on TV the other day....3rd graders doing calculus!!!! Ours kids are left in the dust...
China will be the superpower in a few years....
Wow, two Bams in a row..you certainly are lovely today DeeDee!! :)
Tina: I didn't know that about Sudan either...interesting. Well, for sure Bon Jovi and George Clooney are big deals here. Ha ha. :)
Hello DeeDee, Jodi, LynnD, Whabby & All who fly in! :)
I read this blog early this morning, but thought I'd better not post what was on my mind. But since it's out there....
The USA is a mess. I said this when we were sending aid to foreign earthquake victims and I'll say it again. The situation is desperate right here within our own borders. If your house is burning down, you don't ditch it to save the neighbor's home that's also burning down.
I think George's heart is in the right place but unfortunately, his head is still up his arse. This celebrity fad of "foreign aid" is wrong for these times. Civil war is threatening France. Italy has been debating a north/south split for years. You can't solve every problem ADD-style. The USA needs to get its' own house in order before trying to rule the rest of the world.
DeeDee How gorgeous you are in your holiday "eff me" stilettos.
Bonach I have a hard time believing the situations in France or Italy would be anything like a war in the Sudan. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine some frenchmen hacking up men, women and children with machetes or forcing children to hold their mother's legs apart while they rape their mothers. That's the kind of thing that happens in those wars in Africa. We can't let evil run rampant just because it's inconvenient to us to resist it.
LynnD I have not seen the broadcast on Dateline, but if we are talking about individuals helping, I do believe that even in these hard times (and this is nothing like the depression), we can still help others and still help our own, too. I am not rich but I know that I could tighten my belt and do more for those in need.
Tina Thanks for the blog and, yes, George is a man of substance besides being very, very good looking.
Jodi I still haven't found cards to buy. I am sooooo not in the holiday mood this year.
Waving at Bear and Bebbi.
Dee Dee: Believe it or not, I'm a strong supporter of capitalism, and a strong supporter of entrepreneurs and small businesses and the notion that you should be rewarded when you create wealth.
I'm just not a fan of unfettered capitalism. And when you've already succeeded in creating vast wealth for yourself and your family, you need to be cognizant of the need to share some of it with society. Again: If you don't, you're putting all the advantages of modern life that come with a prosperous, large, middle class, at risk.
Just_Lin; I respectfully retain my opinion. Focus resources on one problem at a time. Solve it, then move on to the next. If the Sudanese problem is most urgent, drop domestic aid and solve that problem. Like Korea. That worked out well.
Good evening feathered friends!
George reminds me of Cary Grant
:)
Tropical heatwave here...34* and...
...NOT a snowflake since noon!
Good Moanin'~ I think everyone should be helped~
DeeDee~ congrats on #1....although #2 fits u better~ and.....i like these choos~
Good eeeevening Owls.
Tina, I watched that show and I was surprised at George's involvement in Sudan's struggle. His compassion for the people of Sudan really impressed me. And you are so right, he is not just another pretty face.
I just got home from working at Christmas Promise. Today is the 'drop off' day when all the people who adopted families are supposed to bring in the gifts they bought. As of the time I left, about half of the 250 families had gifts. By 9:00pm they should have almost everything in. I did get some calls today asking for an extension, I guess because they don't have a calendar.
One chiropractic office brought in over $3,000.00 worth of toys, clothes and bikes. For one week every December, the doctors in the office offer one free office visit to any patient that brings in a gift to donate to Christmas Promise. They also donated $540.00 in cash from patients who didn't have a gift to donate. I had to choke back tears. I love this job.
That is so cool, Barb~
DeeDee, BAM! and I love the choos too.
Jodi,I am having trouble getting in the spirit, too. I'm not even making Christmas cards this year, even though I bought all the stuff to do them. I just can't get motivated and now it's way too late, so I just bought some yesterday.
Lynn, I hope you're feeling better with your new drugs.
Bebbi, From A51 - I'm glad that you are doing what you need to do for you. Life is too short to do otherwise. BTW, JBJ was on Larry King last night. I am even more impressed with him since watching that show.
Bear and J/L, looking forward to tomorrow.
Mo, Loved the Christmas wave.
Waving to all the other Owls. I am dog tired and I think I will go to bed very early. I have to store up some energy for tomorrow.
I keep thinking...
George in a sedan.
But he would look much better in a coupe.
Ya know, SHIRLEY went to her favorite place today...the mall. And she hasn't posted.
I hope she didn't do anything stupid and now she is waiting for us to come up with that bail money.
HODI...I don't see where you posted about SAM's solo...
Hi Mo, I was just heading to bed and saw you had checked in.
Shirley may have gotten overstimulated at the mall today. It may take her a while to decompress lol!!
Busy day tomorrow. I will be volunteering at our fundraiser for my friend who has throat cancer.
I have to get up early and whip up some Spanish rice to take.
Have a great week end everyone! You too sweet lurkers ;-)
MO - Sam had a featured part, not a solo. They all played so well. And I truly think the Juniors did far better than the Senior Orchestra.
I did my own part in making a child happy yesterday. My local top 40 radio station had their 2nd Annual Make-A-Wish Foundation radioathon. I personally know some of the families that shared their stories. And being that I just got my year-end bonus I decided to become a wish club member (you could do 15.00/month, but I chose to just do the $180 in one lump sum). My little part to help someone else during this season of peace. This is my second year doing this and I love it and I know the kids will love getting their wishes, too ♥
MARY - I hope the fundraiser goes well for your friend ♥
Jodi That was very generous of you. Kudos! I donated a new toy to Toys for Tots today. It will make some little child happy and that's very gratifying.
I will be going to Bear's party Saturday night. I will spend the night at the same hotel as SacBarb and her friend, Sharon the Chaperone. Too bad you couldn't be here, Jodi. I'd sneak you into my hotel room for old times sake. LOL
Mary Ditto what Jodi said.
Sweet dreams, HOoters!
