What and Why did you name your child/children what you did? Did the father/fathers take part in the naming process? Do you know why YOU have the name that you do? Do you like it? Why? Why not? Do you like any of the names above? Would you ever use them?

  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Emma~ Not too keen on the rest of the names, but I will say, my kids go to school with almost all those names~

My oldest was always going to be named his name.....didn't matter what the hubby said. Good thing he was a boy, too....cuz I didn't have a girls name picked out! We argued about the twins' names tho~ He didn't like the girls name I picked out....and I wasn't budging!!! (I won!) He didn't like the boys name because he already had a nephew with the same name (first and last!), so I lost there. But all turned out perfectly....can't imagine my kids with any other names (beside Little Shit, of course!) :D

  2. Happy Monday!

TINA: Good Moanin' to you too! Your daughter's name is one of my favorites..

SHIRLEY: I love the names Jayden and Jacob. Mr Z and I don't have any children but I still had names picked out..Matthew and Danielle..just in case. I don't remember which names he liked..lol..

My mom told me she wanted to name me something that would sound ok no matter what age I was..whether I was being called 'Zona' in the schoolyard or 'Grandma Zonaleen' when I got older. :D

MO: Thank you for the virtual latkes..yummmmmmmm! :)

Mr Z got a new thermostat and installed it yesterday..so our heater works again! Yay! Just in time for the almost 80 degree temps we're supposed to get for the next couple days..Oh well.. ;)

Busy busy day today..so I better get movin'..I hope everyone has a wonderful day! :)

Roseanneadana was named after her nana...Nana-Roseanneadana....

I was named after my Grandmother using her first name and her last name...then of course my Fathers last name....

at least as far as we know they were the last names they had before they died....

I named my son John David and of course I used his Fathers last name....when JD was 19 he wanted it changed to my family name and with the stroke of a pen...it was done..

  4. Tragedy begets comedy

Three men die in a car accident Christmas Eve. They all find themselves at the pearly gates waiting to enter Heaven. On entering they must present something "Christmassy".

The first man searches his pocket, and finds some Mistletoe, so he is allowed in.

The second man presents a cracker, so he is also allowed in.

The third man pulls out a pair of panties.

Confused at this last gesture, St. Peter asks, "How do these represent Christmas?"

The third man answered "They're Carol's."

  5. One of my friends in Italy had a baby a few years ago and named her Isabella. One of my cousin's is named Dakota. He looks like a Dakota. Acts like one, too. All into the forestry stuff.

I named my kids. I was an idiot with the first one. Everyone's got her name. I just wanted them to have names that wouldn't get them teased.

When I was growing up, the neighbor boy and I had the same name. That really sucked for both of us.

  6. Carol, do you know where your underpants are? Are you missing a pair?

  7. Tina You are radiant and dreamy with all your good moaning. Thanks for the blog today.

I like all the names on that list well enough. I couldn't name a baby girl Chloe, though, because I've seen too many pets with that name, including my daughter's cat.

My son was named after his father's deceased brother which was fine with me because I liked the name. Simple and straight forward. I gave my daughter her first name because I always liked it. Old fashioned and classy, to my way of thinking. Her middle name is her father's mother's name. It is unusual and swedish.

  8. My mother's mother wanted me to be named LaVerne (my dad was Verne) but my mom thought that sounded like a fan dancer (stripper) name. The name I ended up with was very popular at the time. I think there was a popular song out about it around that time.

  9. DeeDee My grandkids call me Nana and call my mother Nana the Great. LOL

The Paisley Olive-----sounds like a rock band. LOL

  10. Zona Picking a name that works when grown up is an important consideration. I'm glad I wasn't named after my maternal grandmother----Eula. My mom never would have done that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Bonach Those names that are suitable for either gender can get tricky. Kids will use any excuse to tease, it seems.

LOL @ asking about Carol's underpants!

  12. Nana the GREAT!! ...I love it...thats very original!! To me anyway....I don't think I have ever heard that before..

  13. would you like me to explain why you've never heard it before?~ :)~

  14. Happy Monday Owls.

Shirley, I have always been fascinated by names and why people chose the names they did for their kids. I was named after my maternal Grandmother. Simple but not interesting.

My Hubby's brother died in a truck vs car accident right before his 21st birthday and my Hubby wanted to name our son after him. Well, his name was Enos Lee and I could just imagine what kids, who love to tease, would rhyme with the first name so I nixed it quickly, but I agreed to Lee for a middle name. All through my pregnancy we talked about first names and everyone I picked was nixed by the Hubby for one reason or another. Finally I was so frustrated with him that on the way to the hospital, I said, "I'm not getting out of the car until we decide on a boy's name." He said, "pick any one you want."

Our second son's name is the same as a TV actor who was on a popular medical show at the time and I liked the name. Given the last experience about choosing names, my Hubby said whatever name I wanted was OK with him.

Our third son's first name was chosen by Hubby and our oldest son while I was still in the hospital. We were so sure it was going to be a girl, we didn't have a boys name picked out. Oops! His middle name is Gerald, the same as the two Grandpas, almost. Hubby's father's middle name is Gerald and although my father's given name was Ciro, everyone called him Jerry, so we thought it would be a tribute to both.

  15. Sorry about that last post. I just saw how long it is.

Tina, You and McDreamy are lovely moaning in first again. BTW, your daughter's name is my fave girls name.

My middle son had to chose an alias for one of his jobs because they didn't want real names on their name tags. He chose Jaden Alexander. He doesn't work there anymore, but all of his Seattle friends still call him that because most of them worked with him there. I did not call him Jaden.

  16. Bonachichi, I have a friend whose 5 year old granddaughter is named Isabella. He parents call her Bella, but my friend says her name should be Sybil because she swears she has multiple personalities.

Zona, Did your Mom call you Zonaleen when you were in trouble? Have fun shopping in the heat today.

    J/L, Love 'Nana the great'

Dee, LOL @ Carol's panty. Thanks for the FB msg.

Shirley, Here I am. Thanks for looking for me.

  17. Hello Everyone!

I have veen MIA- but I think of you often.

Overwhelmed at work and getting ready for the hoards to descend on our house starting the 16th. 18 adults and 6 kids that weekend for 'family Christmas'.

Just a note to those of you who all sent such warm wishes and donations to Haley last year. She is entering the UM Hospital next monday for more surgery. The opening to her intestines has closed again, so major surgery again. They are hopefull that she can be home for Christmas. If you do pray- please add her to your list.

I Promise to be back in full swing (like it or not!) next week. My computer crashed at work and still working on getting everything up and running. So no extra playtime for me there.

    Hope you are all well.

My goddaughter had a baby and named her Ruby. A friend is having a baby in Feb. and naming her Ruby as well. Seems to be a new trend....

    xxoo

  19. Good evening feathered friends!!

What a crappy day...blizzard. Took over an hour to get to work. I was really nervous, but thankfully it was ok. Coming home was much better.

I was named after my Paternal grandmother and Maureen O'Sullivan.

My brother was named after my Paternal Grandfather and Cary Grant. YES, CARY GRANT!! He hated the name Cary, thought it was a girls name, so on his 13th birthday he had the Cary dropped legally and became Michael...his middle name!

    I have no middle name

    ReplyDelete
  20. would you like me to "Dame" you Maureen?

  21. DEE DEE...absolutely!!! Thank you!

  24. I was named after an Aunt-in-Law. Her husband married mum's sister but they devorced years ago.

I always liked these names for a boy Christopher, Alexander, Benjamin and Jonathan. I had a pretend boyfriend once that I called Benjamin Alexander.

  25. Just got home from an exhausting (but profitable!!) day.

Our first born was going to be Sam either way. She and I share our middle name (Marie)...along with my mil and my hubby's Grandma on his Dad's side. My hubby has two really good friends named Tim and his middle name was his great grandfather's name (Hamilton). I finally got my way when we (whoops!!) had our third. My mother's maiden name was Jacobson, so I always wanted to name a boy Jacob and his middle name is my hubby's (Paul).

My great grandmother's name was Jovi...so she was overjoyed when I was born. She thought my parents had named me after her. Sadly they had to correct her and told her that my name is Jodi. Years later I told my mother that I would've been honored to be named after her!! Oh, well....

The same great grandmother had a heck of a time remembering my youngest brother's name (Dale). She always called him Kevin. I've often wondered over the years if she finally got it right when he got to heaven.....♥

  29. Well Owls it time for this beauty queen to get some sleep. I have to go to the office tomorrow, then to the mall. I was going to go on Saturday but decided against it. Then I was going to go yesterday but talked myself out of it. Then I was going to go today but SOMEONE, who shall remain nameless (Jodi) sent some snow my way. It turned slushy, but it's getting colder. I don't like it. Anyway since I HAVE to go out tomorrow I will go to the mall then. Aren't you glad you asked...oh wait, you didn't. Oh well!

Nighty night Owls! Thanks for all the comments about your family names. I enjoyed reading them!

  36. Imagine, DeeDee misspelling something ;-)

I forgot all about my Aux. meeting tonight! I had to spend most of the day catching up on my paper work. We are holding a benefit Sat.for our bartender who was diagnosed with throat cancer. I can't believe she continues to smoke!

My Mother's first 3 children died soon after birth. Cecilia, Noel & Mary. I have an older sister named Cecilia.
I named my sons Anthony Howard & Matthew Glen. Anthony after my Father (Tony) and Howard after ex s Father. Matthew after ex s Maternal Father. Glen after ex's Fraternal Grandfather.
I never told them I chose "Matthew" because I had a mad crush on my neighbor "Matthew" growing up lol!
In my family the son's take the Mother's maiden name as their middle name. My ex would have nothing to do with it!
My brother's names are pretty long lol. They carried on the tradition in their families.
If I would have had a girl her name would have been Rachael.
Tomorrow I go for my second mammy. Keep your fingers crossed :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mary, you're going for a second mammy because...?? Did they discover something suspicious? :(

Well, my second name is my Dad's name, and my Mom wanted to name me "Kirk" after her uncle. I have to double-check why they didn't go through with that.

Meanwhile, it's too bad J/L wasn't named Laverne after all. Then the nest would have Laverne and Shirley.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Whabby, yes they did find something. It is prolly nothing to worry about, but it is always nice to have my owls sending good vibes. :)

    LOL @ "Laverne & Shirley!!!!

  41. I was suppose to be named Caroline, as least that is what my mother told me she told the hospital.. but my birth certificate read Carol. My mother never checked the birth certificate when she left the hospital. She always called me Carol, she did not realize what was on my birth certificate until she entered me in school.. she was shocked to see Carol.. we never changed it, just left it as is.. which is fine with me.. I like Carol better than Caroline..

    Caroline was my mothers sister..

  42. My brothers name is Clemente Glenn. Clemente after my grandfather (my fathers, father) Glenn after the Glenn Miller band.. my mother loved them.. She agreed to name my brother Clemente (even tho she hated it) but told my dad that everyone would call him Glenn.. which everyone did.. except for my grandfather, he called him Clem..

At least she got that one right!

  46. DeeDee Since I am Nana to my grandkids, we liked the idea of calling their great grandmother Nana the Great. Plus, it makes us smile when we hear it. We made it up for ourselves. I don't know if anyone else calls their great grandmother that.
