Whether We Win or Lose

by Dianne

At one point during a game, the coach called one of his
9-year-old baseball players aside and asked, 'Do you
understand what cooperation is? What a team is?' The
little boy nodded in the affirmative.

'Do you understand that what matters is whether we win
or lose together as a team?'

The little boy nodded 'yes'.

'So,' the coach continued, 'I'm sure you know, when an
out is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the umpire,
or call him a pecker-head, dickhead or asshole. Do you
understand all that? '

The little boy nodded 'yes' again.

He continued, 'And when I take you out of the game so
another boy gets a chance to play too, it's not good
sportsmanship to call your coach "a dumb ass or
shithead" is it?'

The little boy shook his head 'NO'.
'GOOD', said the coach . . . 'Now go over there and
explain all that to your grandmother!'

  1. OMG Dianne, this is so funny and unfortunately some parents and grandparents really DO act like that. As you probably know, I have three boys and the first two are ten yeas apart, so we had MANY years of Little League. We were always very involved. My Hubby was a manager/coach and on the board and I was head scorekeeper. He did have the occasional run in with a parent or grandparent who thought his/her child should have more play time or be the pitcher or whatever.

  2. Happy Monday Hooters. I am in a cleaning mood today and have already spent an hour going through a closet. Better get back to it before the mood passes. Waving madly to you all. BBL

  3. Hi Beautiful Barb!
My sons were on quite a few BB teams. The one that bothered me the most was when my son Matthew played for a coach who's son was on the team. He played him all the time and for some reason he wouldn't put my son out very often. My son was an average player, but improved through the year. I would sit in the stand and watch my son look on. One time the coach finally put him in, in the 9th inning with 2 outs. He batted once the whole game. I was so mad and told my son I was going to have it out with the coach. My son said "it's alright Mom, at least I got to play". Bout broke my heart. I bit my tongue and didn't say anything to the coach.
Funny how we remember things like that.

    Where is everybody? yoooo hooooo!!

  4. Hi Mary. If your son was on an official Little League team, they have rules that state each player MUST play at least two innings. So that coach was definitely not following the rules. My Hubby coached for over 20 years, but never for a team one of our sons played on or in the same Division our kids were in. He didn't want anyone to say he was being partial to his own kid.

  5. Hi...I thought this was a cute blog. I'm running low again on sending blogs. Mary, I sent the two you sent me so you may see your name coming up on some blogs.

Had an appt with Louis at financial place today. Checking into long term insurance...crazy on the premiums. They even go over your meds, etc., now before they will even consider you and we are only looking. My dad didnt have it and my mom did but again expensive. My rehab place was $700 per day when I was there for my knee. We were very lucky the insurance paid all but $151 of it for my three week stay. Oh, this getting old is tough

We ended up going to dinner with my brother and wife. She is getting cabin fever since her hip replacement.

Barb, I wish I would get back in the cleaning mood again....it's been awhile.

Mary, what a good little boy you were raising.

    Ok, time for bed.

  6. DIANNE - So funny!!! Reminds me of last season when Jake was on the Tournament Team. One of his friend's Grandmother's was at every game. She never had quite that potty mouth, but definitely had an OPINION!!! lol!!!

  7. Sorry I didn't check in after work. Left work about an hour early after throwing up. Spent the rest of the day in bed. Thankfully I feel MUCH BETTER this morning :)

  8. MARY - Part of the reason I'm ok with Jake not making the Tournament Team this year, is exactly for that reason. The coach's kid could never do any wrong. WRONG!!! It was tough to watch sometimes.

  9. BARB - I need to "get in the mood" ;)

  10. DIANNE - Time for bed? Oh, sure, just when I'm getting up :)

  12. Ok, I'm really going to,sleep now. Caught up on all my games. That takes awhile. Now I'm hungry so I had better go to sleep.

Jodi, pass the donuts please. I'll take two!!! With a spotted cow...just kidding.

  16. Jodi, now maybe your mil can join in with us.

    Yea jake for winning. Congratulations!!!

Boy, the natives were quiet today. Maybe everyone slept in today.

I worked and did some Walmart shopping with em (she wanted a couple of things from there for her bday) and then we went to dinner. Nice evening.

    Ok, time for bed. Night

    ReplyDelete
  17. DIANNE - Yeah, probably not....I showed her the blog from my phone!! I want to go shopping and out to lunch with u!!! I hope you had fun with your girl :)

  19. Waiting on a call from Jake. A local farmer hired him to do hay this afternoon and tomorrow. With his baseball schedule this week and this job, he's going to be one exhausted boy. But he's used to it with all the work he has done for his Grandpa over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hellooooo. Sorry I've been MIA. Been crazy busy.

Jodi, Good for Jake helping the farmer out. That is strenuous work.

Dianne, Did you see half nekkid people at WalMart? I can't believe how some people who shop there dress.

Hope you all had a good day. TTFN

  21. Hi Jodi and Barb....I'm here!!! I've been gone all day and night and then came home and promptly fell asleep.

Good for jake hopefully earning some money too.

Barb, have you been doing fun things for your crazy week?

  22. BARB & DIANNE - They put up over 600 bales yesterday, and yes, $10 an hour. Not bad for a 13 year old! Jean had called her "regulars", but a couple hadn't called her back. That is why she ended up calling Jake. Paul has done wood clearing for her, so she knows the boys and their work ethic and experience.

  23. BARB - You'd be shocked at what walks into the Kwik Trip, too!! lol!!

  24. DIANNE - Still recovering from your date with Tim?!!? Ha!! Love the pics and video that Tammy posted on FB!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jodi, yes...still recovering...I couldn't get rid of the guy. He likes older women, I guess. He kept singing a lot too!!!

I'm at work but my boss isn't here and I have no idea where she is right now. There is no work left for me so I guess I'm just playing on the computer until she arrives. It's just me and the dogs unless there possible could be a child upstairs asleep but I don't know.

What are you all up to today? Its very hot. It was 94 yesterday...much too hot for me. At least the humidity was 6%...that helps.

  26. DIANNE - Just got up from a short nap. Heading out soon to UW Whitewater. My nephew James made the color guard for the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps, and they have their 2nd dress rehearsal this afternoon. So excited to see their show. It is their 75th Anniversary season. Their show is called Corps of Brothers - 75 Years of Survival. Their closer is You'll Never Walk Alone. This is their corps' song that they have sung every year after every show for as long as I can remember. I best take tissues, I'm sure I'll be "leaking". I'm so excited for James. This has been his dream, to perform with the Madison Scouts.

  27. I best freshen up before I leave. I'm also taking my camera, so I hope to get some good pictures, too!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. P.s. It's pretty warm here, too. Pushing 90* when I came home from work. Thankfully the humidity isn't too terrible today. I think that is going to change over the weekend, being that we are supposed to get thunderstorms then. Thank God for a/C!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Got an exciting call on my way to Whitewater. It's official...Sam is the newest Floral Dept Manager at her store!! Raise, full time, and benefits. So proud of my girl!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jodi, Im so excited for Sam. What a great opportunity and benefits to boot!! Congratulations to her.

Hope you have fun this afternoon. Very exciting. I'd be weepy too.

Tammy finally came home and had a lot of work for me. I'm glad....I like being busy plus we get to listen to country music while we work. We switch to Ellen and Dr Phil later in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  31. UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE!! My brother chose to go to Oregon's dress rehearsal tonight, instead of going to watch his only child. I truly don't get it. I guess he's the one that will have to live with that decision.

So glad that I went. It was an amazing show visually, musically, and emotionally. I cried at the end.

James was so excited to see me, his mother, and a couple other friends that went. It will be great to see the show evolve over the next 7 weeks :)

  32. Thanks for letting me vent.

DIANNE - What do u do for Tammy?

  33. Jodi, I help set up mortgage loans. She is a contract processor out of her home. I used to be a mortgage underwriter for Chase. I di what I call the grunt work for her. It works even though its new to me, at least I know the terminology and what the forms look like.

Boy, I don't get your brother either. Why would he chose to do that instead?

Jodi, you might get lots of pretty flowers now!!! Cool

  34. Hello Hooters.

Jodi Congratz to Sam. It is exciting when you get to see your kids get recognized at work. Congratz to James too. Too bad his Dad chooses poorly.

Dianne, Helping your daughter is a nice distraction for you. Plus you don't have to get all dressed up to go to work. ;)

  35. I just got off the phone with Comcast. I first called them at 2:00pm and it is now 9:19 here. I talked to six different technicians and the end result is I need to get a 32 gig flash drive to back up my computer then they will wipe it clean and start over. I've been having trouble with my email for a while. I was receiving email, but I couldn't send any. I don't know that much about computers, but even I knew that one of the guys I talked to didn't know what he was doing. I just told him I didn't have any more time and ended the call, then I called back to get someone else. Then the new person's shift was ending (after two hours) so he handed me off to someone else. I just took 3 extra strength Tylenol to try to get rid of my massive headache!

The last guy said my four year old computer was a dinosaur and I should probably just get a new one. ga!

Let's hope tomorrow is a better day!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Barb, what a nightmare spending all those hours and not really getting any help. I get very frustrated with computer things.

I do hope tomorrow is better for your

    ReplyDelete
  37. DIANNE - Still scratching my head on that one. He IS going to the competition tonight, but COME ON!!

It's great that your daughter can work out of her home. And that you get to work together!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. BARB - Hoping your day is better. And since when is a 4 year old computer a dinosaur?!!? It's because they can do THEIR JOB!!!

  39. Totally got to sleep in today. Coffee is brewing....life is good!!! Taking Jake out to help Grandpa Huston at the farm and taking Sam out for a congratulatory lunch.

Have a great Friday HOoters ♥

  40. Hellloooooo!
Barb, I feel your pain! We have been dealing with Verizon peeps! We went right to the store thinking we would get better, faster service, wrong! We were changing wireless plans. Living out in the boonies really limits us. First they put us on the wrong plan so we had to go back and fix, then had the right plan but the free 3 month wireless megabytes we were promised for signing up didn't show up. This time we decided to try calling to straighten things up. After an hour on the phone, all is good!!....I hope, *crossing fingers*
    Jodi...some kids parents!!
I wish I lived closer, I would def. be there too!
You son has learned good work ethics ..from his parents :)

Dianne, slacker lol! You sound like a smart cookie. You must be good for your daughter to trust you with "grunt work" :) Are you dreaming of Tim on your break?

  41. MARY - Wish u were closet, too!! You would love it! And thank you. We are pretty proud of all our kids :)

  44. Hello Hooters.

    Just checking in.

Mary, glad you cleared that closet stuff up. ;)

    Hello Jodi and Dianne.

I hope you all had a good day.

  45. LMAO....MARY!!! This is what I get for posting from my phone with one eye open!!

  46. BARB - I work all weekend. You got any plans?

  47. We are having huge thunderstorms tonight and have flash flood warnings til 8am. I really need to take a shower, but am scared that I'm gonna get zapped!! (thanks Mom!!!) Sounds like the storm is further away right now. Making a run for it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jodi...better check back in so we know you didn't get zapped. My mom told us the same thing so it must be true!!!

Wish we'd have some good old fashion rain for these fires. No lightening..just rain. So many people losing their homes very sad

I'm up late but sleeping in tomorrow. I have no plans until, about 4

    ReplyDelete
  49. DIANNE - Waving a wing!! Just when I was about to get in the shower, another round hit. So I didn't risk it. Will have to hoist and rinse later ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. DIANNE - No date with Tim McGraw next month. I talked to Uncle Kenny this morning. He told me that the tickets for Tim McGraw are $60. Too much for general admission and no seats. If I'm going to pay that much for a ticket, I damn well better have a place to put my ass!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jodi, standing room only would not be very fun to me either!

I have already bought my ticket to see Michael Jackson's new show in Vegas in July. I paid extra to get a close up seat. I rarely go to a show anymore unless I can get a good seat! I am too old to peek over heads or stand up for performances.

It is super hot here today! Jim, who never exercises just left with an old school chum to ride bikes on a nature trail. I expect to hear an ambulance fly by anytime soon lol!!

Has anybody heard from out traveling Lin??

    ReplyDelete
  52. MARY - That show will be fabulous!! Did Jim make it home ok? And, no....nada from SLIN!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jodi, I am ushering tomorrow for the opening show at the Music Circus, which is our summer musical theater. This is my 44th year ushering. The show is Wizard of Oz and kids tickets for this show are 1/2 price, so there will be a TON of kids.

Waving a floppy wing to Dianne, Mary, Tina, and J/L (who abandoned us while she is on vaca).

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thankfully it's not storming here this morning. Best hop in the shower and get prettied up for work.

    Have a relaxing Sunday ♥
