Advice From a Retired Husband

by Dianne

This is why I don't play golf!!!!!

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes
harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they
were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are
oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife,
Carol. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Carol to get
a full-time job, along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for
the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I
noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf
club about the same time she gets home from work.

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest
for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her.
Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner
on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club, so
eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit
that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now
it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after
dinner.

I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening
that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it
does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say
that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during
her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile
and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two, or even
three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that
missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know
what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She
had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the yard. I try
not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big,
cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as
long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Carol. I'm not
saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it
difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how
frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use
a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this
article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we
are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE:
Ron died suddenly on January 31 of a perforated rectum, shortly after this
message "went viral." The police report says he was found with a Calloway
extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end,
with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His
wife Carol was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took
only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that Ron,
somehow accidentally sat down on his golf club.

This is quite similar to those Roman generals who always seem to be falling on their own swords.

Have a great day all

Hi..Garth and Trisha Yearwood were so great. As I said, I'm not a huge fan but more now. His concert went from 7:30-10:45. When band on break, he played and sang. Trisha gave him a 30min break while she performed..Two encores. My son runs the police units there and said he was the nicest performer he's ever met. Thanked the police afterwards, the stage hands, etc. He also kept his ticket prices lower than most and added nine shows when he kept selling out. Todd said he was very down to earth, soooo I've changed my mind and I would highly recommend to go if you get a chance. It was a lot of fun. I sang all night!

Mary, I get a pain in my shoulder and heart sometimes. I call it gas in my heart. It hurts and you kind of want to have gas. I wonder if that's kind of the same? Nothing in my tummy though.

Barb, I'm really sorry you are hurting so much. Do you have any relief? Can the dr give you a shot or anything?

Jodi, what's on the agenda for this week? I'm sure you have a busy week. We were supposed to get new refrigerator Saturday but they called today and said it was back ordered until next Friday. Disappointing .

We Are back to nice weather after a little dribble of snow yesterday.

DIANNE - O M Geee!!! Thankfully we have a few more years before we retire. Instead of a golf club, it would probably be a chainsaw, though ;) It's been a crazy week at work. A co-worker bruised her hand last weekend down to the bone in the kitchen, so we've had to "make due", pulling someone off of 1st shift to cover her overnight shift. I'm exhausted!! Looking forward to tonight. Paul and I are going on a date. Not sure what that will be yet, but it will be nice to just get out.

MARY - Hey pretty lady! Glad you enjoyed your "me" day, even if your wallet is a bit lighter!

Jodi said...

SLIN - About spit my coffee out. "Does Louis golf"....bwahahaha!!!

Jodi said...

BARB - I hope you are getting some relief!! Love u ♥

Dianne/Denver said...

JlL, lucky for Louis he does not golf. He's trying out hobbies for his summer off

Mary, I thought you always win. Glad you got away for the day.

Jodi, so how was the date? Where did you go? Dancing?

Just_Lin said...

Mary I can't believe you returned from the casino with a lighter wallet. You must have had some big dinner. LOL

Just_Lin said...

HOdi Yay for date nights! I hope you had a wonderful time whatever you did. As busy and hectic as life can get, it's important to make time to still do things as a couple. You go, girl!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It's going to be interesting for you to have Louis at home more. Maybe he could take some cooking classes. My husband loved to cook and that was just fine with me.

Just_Lin said...

Barb Yoo hoo! Where are you?

sacBarb said...

Hello HOoters.

I just got home from the doctor's office where I went to whine about the pain in my leg. He took X-Rays of my back last time I was there, and apparently I have some degeneration of two discs in my spine. So, he scheduled an MRI for Saturday and he also gave me another RX for prednisone. ughhh Hopefully the MRI will show something that will lead to a fix for me. Of course, one thing that would make it better is to lose about 600 pounds!

sacBarb said...

Dianne, Very funny story. My Hubby played golf, but he helped a lot around the house. However, some of his cronies were like Ron and I don't know how their wives kept from doing the same thing, Carol in your story, did. LOL

Mary/MI said...

Awe, SacBarb, I hate that you are hurting! Hopefully the MRI, will clear things up.I am thinking 600lbs may be a wee bit exaggerated lol! I know I would feel a whole lot better not carrying these extra lbs. Sometimes it feels like 600 extra though lol!

Dianne, did you have good seats at the concert? While I was at the Casino, I checked the seating chart of my Tim McGraw show. It is an outside concert. I wanted up close seats, mostly because too many stand up during the whole concert! I wanted isle seats, didn't get them, but close enough. It's not until July, but it is almost sold out.All that are left are open hill side seating, on the ground. You can't bring chairs, so that would be a bummer. Sure hope it doesn't rain!

Jodi, have fun on your date and I hope you get "lucky" :P

JL,I wish my hubby cooked...well, maybe not lol! He would never clean up his mess!

Dianne I meant to say that I'm glad you enjoyed the Garth concert so much. I always thought he seemed like a real nice and genuine person. Many, many years ago, my second husband moonlighted as security for a Sonny and Cher show early in their career. He was not too complimentary about Sonny but said Cher was great. Apparently, Sonny didn't want to be bothered giving autographs to their fan club members that had come to the show but Cher read him the riot act and demanded they do so, reminding him that the only reason they had a career was because of their fans.

Just_Lin said...

Barb I'm glad to see you here today. I'm sure hoping the MRI gives you some answers and resolution. LOL at needing to lose 600 lbs. I would be very happy if I could lose 60.

Just_Lin said...

Mary I was very lucky that my hubby liked to cook. It was especially nice when I was still working and would come home to have a dinner waiting for me. Oh, and he cleaned up, too!

Dianne/Denver said...

Boy JL, you were lucky your husband liked to cook. I'm kind of used to Louis being home since he teaches from home. We had decided to retire in a year but now he's decided to wait two years. I'm glad as the extra income, insurance coverage, and 401k contributions are nice. He's just so happy to be getting summers off after all these years. I can't believe the change in him I've seen in the last weeks and for the good!!!

Barb, I sure hope the MRI helps show something that can be fixed easily. When you lose that 600 would you let me know how? I'd be so happy and so would my dr.

Mary, I love Tim McGraw concerts and have been to a few. He just announced two shows here in Sept but at a venue that doesn't have good handicap accessibility. That's a bummer as he's one of my favorites. We had great seats for Garth as I get handicap seats so no one is standing in front of us.

Tonight we got new curtain panels, quilt and accessories for the bed. I'm trying to do some changing in my house to brighten it up a little. I'm starting with the bedroom.

Jodi said...

DIANNE - We went out for dinner where Tim works. We knew the food would be good because Tim was working the grill!

Jodi said...

SLIN - I agree! Although it's getting a bit easier with the kids being away from home more and more. We took full advantage of an empty house this afternoon ;)

Jodi said...

BARB - I hope the MRI will give you some answers. Jake is going back to his surgeon on Monday. About 5 weeks ago he all of a sudden has drop foot on the side he had his ACL reconstruction. I took him to my chiropractor in hopes that he would have an answer, but he didn't. Jake's PT won't treat him until we see the surgeon. Here we go again....

MARY - Thanks and I did....twice!!

Pretty full day. I started with a haircut and eyebrow wax. I then had lunch with my Aunt Jane, James, and his Mom Shari. James had mentioned on Tuesday that he missed Jane, so I decided it would be great for all of us to have lunch before he heads back to college tomorrow. Wisconsin won their game against Arizona and are now in the Final Four!. I'm now waiting for the return of The Sunway Show! Looking forward to her second season!

It was breakfast with a friend and then errands day. I don't like those things to do. I bought curtain panels last night so took them to the cleaners to have them pressed. Im sure not going to try and iron those things.

It was 80 here today and our house was hot. Air fan not working but can't get place out here for air yet this time of year....dumb in my opinion. I don't like to be hot.

Congrats Jodi on your basketball team. Do you watch those games. I hope jake is going to be okay. Im glad you had a fun day and night yesterday and today.

What's everyone doing today? The weather must be nice in night owl towns and you are all flying around.

Just_Lin said...

HOdi Gee, I'm sorry about Jake's trouble with his foot. He's really had a time of it, hasn't he?

There are certain perks to having an empty nest, aren't there? ;)

Just_Lin said...

Dianne We had beautiful weather here today. I did step out onto the deck and enjoy it a few times during the day. Mostly, I worked inside, though, organizing and going through stuff in a bedroom closet. I now have a back of stuff to give away.

I keep meaning to ask you if you like your daughter's new boyfriend better than the last one.

I never watched Downton Abbey before but now that I have a smart TV and Amazon Prime, I've been binge watching. I'm now on season 4 and I love this show. I understand that the next season (the 6th) will be the last. I will hate to see it go. I'm very fond of a number of the characters.
