This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
By the way, if I stand at the very far west end of my deck, I can actually see some of the ocean through the trees. I'm not elevated enough to see waves hitting the beach, though. Keep in mind that I am a mile inland. I'm a little elevated from sea level as I am on the beginning ascent of Montara Mountain.
Barb It's lovely today but sometime in the middle of the night it was either raining really hard or it was hailing or maybe both. Whatever it was doing, it was coming down fast and furious.
The insurance adjuster was here today to look at the damage on the fence now that the fallen tree has been taken out. Once I get this stuff taken care of, maybe I can come up there and you and I can go to Tahoe for a couple of days or something?
HOdi I'm really sorry that you are now plagued with sciatica problems. It seems to be constant with me to some lesser degree but when it really flares up, it is crippling. The only thing that helped me (finally) was the Rx from the doctor that is specifically for nerve pain. I don't know how you can work if it has really flared up for you. When mine was that bad, I could barely get across a room, and I did a lot of yelping when doing so.
JustL, I am having some cute visuals of you walking around on your tippy toes looking for waves! I would love to live that close to the ocean! Someday I will fly all the way over there just to go on a fun road trip with you gals! Lake Tahoe sounds wonderful!!
Hodi! I see turning 50 has put your body into shock lol! Awe, I am sorry you are hurting! I forget, did you see a Chiro?
Jodi, I hope you get some relief from you pills. It's so hard to work when you feel bad. I tried to tell you getting older wasn't too fun. I think we all told you. Lol.
JL, how fun to live so close to the ocean. I'd love to live like that..almost like you are always on vacation. Glad you will be getting that fence fixed. You and Mary and Barb should plan a quick trip to Tahoe. It would be fun and Mary is always looking for a trip..esp cislly with the weather getting better.
Well Mary, we are scheduled for 12" of snow tomorrow. It was 75 today and beautiful. I'm hoping they're wrong because I don't want to be stuck in the house. I've already missed two weeks of WW and catching up with my friend. My plan is hoping it will be better by the time I leave. Guess where I'll be sending it when we are done?? We are scheduled for more over Easter...so be ready. You know I always get this from Tina?
Barb, update ....Boyfriend is staying at my x-SIL and wife's house. They live in the mtns so Ksyla is staying up there at night and driving down for school and bringing him down for his Village Inn job. He has an interview with a car dealer doing something tomorrow. Andy will take him. Don't even get me started. They were afraid he'd go homeless and Kayla would follow him. I don't exactly think it's right for grandpa to just wash his hands of situation but keep in touch with Andy
Dianne, It's too bad the grandpa has washed his hands of the kid. He must have really screwed up when he was staying with him. The grandpa probably feels he is too old to put up with his s#!t. What happened to his parents? You probably said what happened, but I may have missed it or I forgot!
J/L, Is your fence between your house and your neighbor's? Will they participate in the fixing of the fence? We had a neighbor that wouldn't help or pay for any of the fence when it blew down. He didn't want to turn it in to his insurance because he said they would raise his premium. That's when my Hubby said we should build the block wall so we wouldn't have to worry about it. (he is a real cheapskate) We already had the block wall between us and the corner neighbor and we talked to the neighbor behind us and he agreed to do the labor for the back wall if we paid for the materials. That was about four years before Bob died and I am so glad I haven't had to worry about it since. Every year we would have to replace a section of the wood fence. We get some fierce winds in the winter.
Jodi, Peppermint oil really worked for me when I had two severe sciatica episodes. I was lucky that Todd was still living at home when they occured. After he left for college, I had another episode and I didn't have anyone to help me with it on a daily basis. I didn't feel I could ask someone to come over every day just to put the oil down my spine, so I did what I could and it helped a little. I tried it before I had the back surgery, but by then my back was so bad that I didn't get much relief. Plus, it was way more serious than just the sciatic nerve that was affected. If you try it, I hope it helps you. You can ask Kathy how well it works, cause I recommended it to her too.
Barb, the mom left when he was two. She tried to come back when he was 18 but he didn't want any part of it. The dad (grandpas son) lives a short distance but seems to only pop on from time to time. I think grandpa made him move because he wasn't doing anything...like working. I'm amazed that my x-SIL's wife is ok with this mess. She inherited two teenagers a year and a half ago.
I'm watching Nightline and its so sad about Brussels....and scary. Our airport was partially shut down today after this for a scare. It's really getting scary or actually has been and what can be done?
SLIN - I'm on day 3 of the new meds. It's Gabapentin. They ease you into it. I think by Friday or Saturday I will be on in 3 x's a day. What really is frustrating is that I can't get in to PT until April 5th. I've been doing some stretches at home that I learned from a few people, including a chiropractor I watch on Periscope. They are painful, but in the long run I hope they help. And yes, I was saying bad words by the end of my shift today. lol!!
MARY - I saw my chiro for over 2 weeks. He suggested on Saturday that there wasn't much more he could do for me. This is why I started with urgent care on Saturday and saw my regular dr on Monday. If I don't see a lot of improvement by mid April, they have ordered that I have an MRI.
Jodi, sorry you are in so much pain. I wish they'd do an MRI sooner just to see what's going on. Try and rest when you can.
Well, I'm snowed in big time here. We have over a foot of snow and the whole city closed down for the day. You couldn't get even go on hwy. I slept off and on most of the day. I simply don't do well on these kind of days. The roads are being cleared and the airport opens tonight. We get our taxes done tomorrow so at least we get out. We are supposed to go to the show Newsies tomorrow night but I'm going to see if I can change it. It cancelled tonight.
Jodi, you sure are a mystery! I wonder if you have a pinched nerve? Do you remember what you were doing when it first flared up? I feel bad for you!
Dianne, for Pete's sake keep that shit in Denver! We got rain all day. It has turned to ice. I walk on our long deck every hr for about 250 steps. My last walk was pretty slippery. Even Zoie had to be carried up the steps after doing her business lol!
MARY - It was raining last night, but you could tell that it was probably a mixed bag. Not looking forward to trying to navigate my driveway this morning. Bad enough with a limp, so I hope it's not icy, too! And I really don't remember what set this off!
HOdi I'm sorry about you still have that darn sciatica. The nerve med I was on was Nortriptyline. The dose starts at one capsule a night for 7 nights. If that level hasn't helped, you increase to 2 capsules a night for 7 nights. It goes on like that until the level of 5 capsules a night. Fortunately, my symptoms were improved greatly after the first 5 nights. I continued to take one for the following two nights, just to be sure.
I got my taxes done at the beginning of the month. I'm glad to have it out of the way.
Dianne It seems you live in the wrong place for someone who doesn't like to get stuck indoors due to weather. Do you like to read or play cards? I love rainy days as it is an excuse for me to stay home and stay cozy and read or watch movies.
Mary Be careful on those deck walks of yours. You do not want to slip and fall and break something. Even something small like a broken finger can be a real pain in the arse. Your vacation is coming up soon, isn't it? What a nice change of weather that will be for you.
Barb The insurance adjuster informed me there is now a California law regarding fences between neighbors that requires they each pay for half of a mutual fence. Their homeowner's will cover their share, too. Our insurance premiums will not go up because it was due to "peril", i.e., it's storm damage, and not due to negligence on my part or the neighbor's.
Well, had our taxes done and that wasn't very fun. We usually get a decent refund but not this time. At least we don't have to pay. When we got home I recd a past due bill for $1900. WHAT!!! I never read the first one and I'm not quite sure what this is for except I'm thinking maybe my annual long term care....there goes the tax refund!! Quick. I have to call tomorrow. We did go out for yummy fried chicken after taxes and I did get out.
JL, we don't really have that many stay home snowy days but I don't like even one. I get bored being home at night!!! We canceled our snow for tonight until next Thursday. We actually could have gone as the roads are clear. We really got a ton of snow.
Mary, do be careful. I'm more scared to walk than to drive.
Jodi, yes, you'd better make tax plans. That date is creeping up very fast.
Barb or JL, did you watch DWTS this week? I'm watching it because of Von Miller our MVP Bronco player. I also wanted to see Marla Maples and Geraldo. I didn't realize he is 72.
Hi all! I was one lazy biotch today! I slept in, and barley moved lol! I did make a chicken dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. I have been car shopping and getting sticker shock! I want to stay in the Jeep family. My son Matthew has my first Jeep. It is still running good. That will go to my Grandson Logan. Mine is still in excellent shape. New tires, battery and brakes. And all paid for lol! I am giving that to Matthew. I haven't had a car pmt in over 4 yrs!
My ex, didn't leave a will, so that will be interesting! His brother has been living on his property. As far as I know, he barley left enough money to get cremated. He has lived alone for the last 25 yrs. Tony's Uncle and Tony seem to think Matthew wants something from his so called estate. I am sure the land is worth something. Matthew told them he didn't want anything. That seemed to make them happy! I told Mathew not to sign off anything. I am sure it all has to go through probate and all done legally. I am sure neither one can pay the yearly taxes on it. What a mess!
Mary If your Jeep is still running good why are you getting a new one? Just because? When my husband died in '07, I used insurance money to pay off my '05 Prius so I wouldn't have to worry about car payments. I'm still driving it.
I think your ex's brother is going to need to find a new place to live. Any of your ex's property, including that land, will need to be sold and value divided equally between his sons.
Dianne You may not be getting a refund as big as you are used to but at least you don't have to pay any more. I don't have to pay either but I am still awaiting the bill from the tax accountant. It's a pretty hefty one. In the olden days, I would just do my own tax returns but now it's for me and also for a trust and there are capital gains and other stuff involved.
I haven't had fried chicken in a long time. It sure sounds good. My mother used to make really good fried chicken.
Hi..I think when you're retired you shouldn't have to pay taxes. Taxes were already paid on that money. Guess I'll run for president!!
JL, Mary is getting a New jeep so she can pass hers to her son and his to her grandson. She's so sweet. Plus fun to have a new car!
I only made Easter brunch plans for Louis and I a few weeks ago as no one mentioned it. Today everyone wants to know the plans. I plan ahead and felt someone could ask me for once and they didn't.... Until the day before Easter. Now we will probably be running all over that day. Grrr
Tried to be a good catholic girl today and not eat meat. Had shrimp for lunch and went to Olive Garden for dinner and had shrimp...doing good. Had the zuppa soup and half way thru realized there was darn sausage in it!!!.
Jake (loser boyfriend) got a Job at a car dealer today moving cars and changing oil. Supposed to start Wednesday. He still actually has the job at village in part time. They are supposed to call this weekend. So hopefully, he will have two part-time jobs. We shall see and hope.
Dianne I had to laugh at your realization that the Zuppa Toscana has sausage in it. I love that soup and always get it when I'm at Olive Garden.
I am staying home for Easter which has been what I've done the last several years. We are not real big on celebrating Easter. I did send HoneyBaked hams to both of my kids and also one to my brother. I decided not to get one for myself as I am already having extra trouble with water retention and don't need to eat a salty meat. I am going to make baked beans tomorrow that has bacon in it, though. I'm also making some baby back ribs and potato salad. That will be it for my Easter dinner. My husband used to make the best baby back ribs on the barbecue grill. I'll be cooking mine in the oven.
I reread Mary's post and now I get it. Yes, that is very nice of her. It is fun to have a new car but I don't want a car payment again if I don't have to. Fortunately, the style of the Prius hasn't really changed much at all and mine is running like a charm.
That's great that Jake the Boyfriend has two part time jobs now. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that things work out to everyone's satisfaction.
Very funny, Dianne. I hope everyone is well.
ReplyDeleteHa!!! DIANNE thanks for the chuckle!!
ReplyDeleteBARB - Prettiest in all the blog today!! I've never heard of using peppermint oil that way. I'll have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteDianne Cute blog! I guess I can't blame him. LOL

ReplyDeleteDIANNE - Hush woman!!! I still refuse to believe that it's because I turned 50!!! ha!!!
ReplyDeleteBARB - Still need to get some peppermint oil. Maybe after work tomorrow. I'm willing to try anything at this point!
ReplyDeleteTime to do my stretches, ice my back one more time, take my meds and hit the hay!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good night HOoters ♥
