This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING DEAR OWL FRIENDS! I hope you all have a lovely day.
I made a pumpkin pie last night but that will be it for my holiday cooking unless I make some fresh green beans to go with my dinner. I ordered a complete turkey dinner from Safeway and I pick it up at 1:00. It will be a 10-12 lb turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce. I'll add black olives to the menu as I love them. I will have plenty of leftovers, that's for sure.
Zoie & I have just come out of our turkey coma. My sister, her hubby, Raquel & her hubby and of course Matthew & Jim were at the table. The highlight of my day was Raquel's daughter, Myla. So fun watching a 2 year old running around with such innocence and Zeal! I cooked the works incl 2 pies, turkey, green been casserole, mashed taters, gravy, corn, biscuits, & stuffing. Lena brought a delicious caramal cheesecake. The dishes are done, kitchen clean and I am rested. My job here is done lol!
I went to a private gathering of my friends son who passed away. They still don't know what happened. For some reason his oxygen levels dropped. They worked on him for 45 min. They are waiting for the autopsy report. There will be no funeral. He worked at a popular local restaurant. Because of his heart, his job were hard to come by. He was the main cook. The restaurant/bowling ally, will be hosting a memorial gathering in a couple of weeks. So sad.
My sis asked if we should cancel our dinner today. She knew how sad we were. I told her no, there is always something to be grateful for. Having Myla here was uplifting :)
Hi....Happy Thanksgiving all....we r in Houston enjoying weather in the 70’s. It’s so nice and no humidity. We sat outside for happy hour tonight. I need to win the lotto so we can have a summer and winter house. Tmrw we celebrate our thanksgiving meal as one cousin had to work yesterday so it was postponed until Saturday. They won’t ever let me bring food to dinners here so I brought hostess gifts from home for everyone. We had Italian at my cousins yesterday. We’re really enjoying the family time here.
Mary, so sorry for the sadness of your friends son. Such an extra hard time of year too. I’m glad you had your dinner and Myla was so fun for you all. When I lost my previous husband Kayla was a year old. Tam would have her be around a lot and it helped ease the pain. There’s just something about the innocence of a child. You dinner sounded delicious too.
JL, how did your Safeway dinner turn out? I’ll bet you have lots of leftovers too...I love the stuffing best and pumpkin pie. I could make a meal just on those two things. How was your day?
Barb, did Chad cook that great meal? Did you have company? I’ll bet everyone is eating turkey today. I noticed Starbucks was advertising a turkey and dressing sandwich. Now, that sounds kind of good to me.
Hope you’re all doing well. We leave for home Monday. I think Louis is ready to be home....me..not so much. They are 18 degrees and snow ..I’ll take this weather any day. We are in a really nice Best Western too. There were 60 kids here from Mexico for a soccer team but the manager held breakfast later for us. We got to know her a couple of weeks ago when we were here. The kids behaved well too.
Hello, out there .....we are in Wichita falls, Texas, tonight. We will get home Wednesday afternoon. hoping for nice weather....so far so good. We got here kind of early so I’ve been cyber shopping tonight getting Christmas wrapped up. I was sad leaving today. The weather is so beautiful this time of year in Texas. I’m not looking forward going home to even all that snow on the ground. We had a nice thanksgiving on Saturday. There was 21 oF us. We had tw fried turkeys and two smoked prime ribs....delicious. It was fun being with all that family. Hope you all had a good weekend.
Dianne Thank you for the Christmas card. I can't believe you got those sent out while on vacation. Mine are still sitting in their boxes. At least I think I'm done with Christmas shopping so that's a relief. I've cut back a lot from what I used to do. Of course, my disposable income has cut back a lot, too. LOL
There were pros and cons to my Safeway turkey dinner. The turkey was cooked but still icy so I had to wait a couple of hours before I could put it in the oven to heat up. The mashed potatoes were fine, as was the gravy and stuffing. The gravy had more herbs in it than I'm used to. I'd say the dinner was fine just not what I'm used to. When I heated up the turkey, it made a lot of juice. I assumed a lot of it was water from being partly frozen and I was right. I didn't want to mess with it on Thanksgiving Day since I had other gravy so I put it in the fridge until the next day. I made a good gravy out of it then which I liked better than the Safeway gravy. I have enough breast meat left for one more sandwich. The leg meat I've been mixing into the dogs dry food as a treat. The wings and carcass went out for garbage pick up on Monday. I did end up having a vegetable as my friend dropped off some of her creamed broccoli when she was on the way to a family gathering. Delicious!
It sounds like you had a wonderful trip and Thanksgiving Day. Safe travels on your way home!
Mary I'm so glad you were able to have a nice Thanksgiving even with the recent passing of your son's friend. Having a cute little kid around would certainly lift the spirits. It sounds like you put together a great feast. Such hard work, too! I bet everything was delicious.
How's your weather? We've had lots and lots of rain but we have a break today so that's good. It gives us a chance to dry out before the next wave of rain hits. I think it's supposed to start raining again tomorrow.
Yesterday, I went grocery shopping which included getting what I needed to start making fudge and cookies for the holidays. The older I get, the less enthused I am about doing all this stuff. I don't know where you get the energy to do all that you do.
Hello Ladies. I didn’t realize it’s been so long since I’ve posted. So sorry!
We had a nice Thanksgiving. Chad smoked the 22 lb. turkey he got when Raley’s had that $.39 per lb. sale. My sister was the only other one here, so I sent half of the leftover turkey home with her. I made my sausage dressing and Chad made corn bread and a corn pudding casserole, baked yams, and gravy. We were going to do a gree bean dish, but decided we already had too much food. I don’t eat dressing and Chad only wanted a little of the leftover, so Marie got most of that, half of the corn bread and the casserole, so she was going to make up tv dinners and freeze them. I even gave her a can of cranberry sauce. She is set for a while. I’m sure she has been ordering food in for quite a while, because she doesn’t leave her house much anymore. I picked her up because her car battery is dead. I really expected her to call me to say she wasn’t coming over. She has done that the last few times we’ve had family things.
J/L, I’ve always wondered how those Safeway turkey dinners are. It sounds like a pretty good idea for people who don’t want to do all that cooking. I should have invited you to come here. I’m sorry I didn’t think about it! I am going to San Diego for Christmas. I will leave the 23rd and come home the 28th. Chad will probably go to Arch’s. Arch and his two sisters and some of their kids are all living in the house now that his Mom is gone. The sisters cooked for Thanksgiving.
Dianne, Thanks for the Christmas card. It’s the first one I Received. I still have a little more to do to finish mine and I hope to get them out next week. Your trip sounds like it was fun for you and I know you’re glad to have all that time with family.
Mary, I bet your Thanksgiving dinner was delish. You are so right about always having something to be thankful for. I’m so sorry about your friend’s son. How nice of his employer to have a memorial for him. I’m sure his family appreciates it.
My eyes are getting better. I have an appointment on Thursday to check them again and get a new RX for glasses. I haven’t proofed this, so please excuse any errors. ❤️
Hi....we’re home! We got home about 1 pm but went to post office and then Louis washed car and went to store. The post office said the carrier has all our mail which irritates me. We completed the form that we’d pick it up. This happened a few weeks ago too. It took days to get our mail last time. We had such a good time and beautiful Texas weather. Branson was pretty chilly this time. We travel well with Judy and gordon. Louis is doing laundry and I’m going to pick up dinner. I’ve unpacked one suitcase but have the big one left to do plus all my shopping.
It sounds like everyone had a nice thanksgiving. Barb, you had a lot of food. You don’t like the stuffing? It’s my favorite part. I should make it once in awhile. I make the sausage one too. That’s nice you are going to San Diego for Christmas. Do you have your shopping all done? I’m just about done except for some gift cards. Now it’s time to sort and wrap ...my least favorite part.
JL....I love the leg and thighs the best of the turkey. Your dog must be in glory getting that extra food. I carried my boxes of cards with me to mail the day after Thanksgiving. Now I need to get my thank you cards to Texas families for everything they did for us. They want us to go on another five day cruise for my uncles 90th bday in April but I think financially we will have to pass. We have our Hawaii trip in February and Kentucky/Nashville to see Louis’s daughters in May. I’d love to go but......
Mary, how are you doing there? How’s Your weather? Shopping and cards done for Christmas yet? we sure enjoyed the shows in Branson and it was my cousins first time there. They loved it. They only live a long days drive away so I think they will be back. I wish we lived closer but it’s a two day drive for us. I kind of wanted to stay near Dallas for an extra day to see The Texas Tenors perform there but it was too much of a pain to change all our hotel reservations, etc.
Well, I guess I’d better go get dinner. We didn’t have lunch today and we’re hungry. I probably gained 20 pounds the last two weeks. I need to get back on Ww plan ASAP.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING DEAR OWL FRIENDS! I hope you all have a lovely day.
