Over a double Latte, the Greek mentions, 'We built the Parthenon you may recall, along with the Temple of Apollo.'
'Aye, and it was the Irish that discovered the Summer and Winter solstices,' the Irishman replied.
'But it was the Greeks who gave birth to mathematics.'
'Granted, but it was the Irish who built the first timepieces.'
Knowing that he's about to deliver the coup de grace, the son of Athens points out with a note of finality: 'Keep in mind that it was the ancient Greeks who invented the notion of sex as a pleasurable activity!'
'Aye! True enough, but it was the Irish who got women involved!'

LMAO!!!
It is cold and rainy here today. The Upper Peninsula will be getting 4-10" today! I am so not ready for winter!!
I worked outside yesterday while Matthew mowed. He mows about 3 acres of our 4 acres.
I asked Jim to move a pile of wood by the sauna a few weeks ago and it still wasn't moved, so I put on my big girl/boy pants on and took care of it! Queenie's kennel is behind the sauna. When the rain comes down, it has no where to go with the pile of wood there and it puddles up. I removed the wood and dug a small trench away from the kennel and sauna. In the winter the puddles would be frozen and dangerous.
It is sad to see Jim losing ground every day. I don't know if he is afraid to do things with being out of breath so much, or just lazy lol! Either way, I can't take the chance , so I try to do what I can in his place.
I was out last night just before dark and decided to move an old wheel barrow to the back of the garage outside. I misjudged the small hill and the handles tripped me up and I went flying! I had a mini second to make the decision to "roll" instead of just plopping! Luckily it was a good choice. I didn't break anything! Motrin and ice were my friends last night. I am sore but fine today. I hate falls! I try so hard to be careful and dam, I fall anyway!
Be careful out there!
That is 4-10" of SNOW!!!
Hello all….well we r back from a great week in Branson. We enjoyed my cousins, all the shows, the Texas tenors and fan week. Everything turned out great. I won a raffle at the tenor luncheon and got two free tickets so we went back on Saturday too. We saw a lot of ther great shows too…only one bad one. Louis was in a lot of pain so I ended up driving most of the way home. He also couldn’t stay awake and kept nodding off all week. I was too scared for him to drive. I’m not the best over the road driver ask also get tired but I turned on the air conditioner, ate tootsie roll pops, and cranked the radio up loud and I was fine. Kansas is a boring state to drive in but I just sing a lot while he sleeps. He’s doing a virtual dr appt tmrw to see if the new meds are causing sleepiness I had to squeeze his hand a few times when we were in the front row at places. By the end of the trip our togetherness was a tad overwhelming. He needs to use my walker with a seat as standing is hard for him.
Mary, don’t mention that snow word. They r saying our possible first snow might be Monday. I so wish I could get a little condo in Branson and Texas for us to go during our winter months. Mary, you can’t be falling so much. You could break something in a minute. Please be careful. You simply cannot do all these hard things. Do you have a handyman you could call to do some of the things around? Get one! We r still have 80’s for weather so it’s a nice fall. I still haven’t unpacked anything so my house is a big mess. I hate coming home from a trip. I sure hope we can go on cruise since we already paid.
What r the rest of you up to right now? Bev, sorry about the sudden loss of your two friends. I know exactly what you’re going through and it’s so hard!
Barb and JL….check in. Mary came and nudged me tonight.
Dianne I don't have anything exciting to share. I'm so glad you have been able to go on your fun trips. Kudos to you for driving a lot of the way home from Branson. I'm so sorry for poor Louis to still be in so much pain. LOL at having to wake him up at the concert. Pretty embarrassing to be sleeping in the front row. I forgot about your upcoming cruise. Tell us again where you are going and when. I wish I was going on a cruise.
I had a bad sciatica event about a week or so ago so I've been very careful to try and not trigger that again. I've been very mindful to sit properly and walk carefully ever since.
I just checked the last blog and I see I haven't posted since the 3rd. I had no idea it had been so long. As it turned out, I did get to go see the musical "Moulin Rouge" which was absolutely fantastic! The other ladies and I went out for a great fish dinner afterward.
I need to get candy for Halloween. Last year I gave out Rice Krispy Treats which I thought was a great idea. It was something different from the usual chocolate that I usually give out. I did have one little girl say she didn't like Krispy Treats. What? I don't think I've ever come across anyone who doesn't like them. I guess it will be back to assorted chocolate bars this year. I'll make sure that includes Snickers which is my favorite.
Mary, Mary, Mary! What are we going to do with you? I'm so glad you didn't break anything with that fall. Amazing how fast the mind works in that situation, isn't it? I remember years ago I stubbed my toe and as I was falling, I decided to twist so that I landed on my side. It was a good choice but still knocked the wind out of me.
You do a lot of heavy lifting around there. I wish you'd be more careful but I totally understand the desire to just "gitter done". Now that I have a rotator cuff issue with my left shoulder, I'm much more careful about what I do and what I lift. My friend Kathy who fell on her walker and broke 4 ribs (2 on each side), still isn't home from rehab and now has an infection of the gut. Prior to all this, she was setting up a surgery appointment to replace her shoulder. I have a feeling her bad shoulder is what made her stumble and fall when using her walker. I really don't want my shoulder to get worse than it is now.
Bebbi Good to see you pop in. It sounds like you are very busy with family and volunteering on top of your full time job. I'm glad your mom is improving and that you are close enough to be able to visit and lend a hand. I miss my mother a lot.
Barb I really wish you could get back in here. We are such a small group.
Tonight I am making Sarma which is a version of Dolma. I got this recipe from the mother of my best friend growing up. Her dad was Armenian. Whenever I saw that her mom was making them, I'd ask if I could stay for dinner. I just love them. I prepared the meat mixture last night. It has mint in it and once the grape leaves are stuffed, they are cooked in tomato sauce. I guess I better go rinse off the leaves and start putting them together now.
Yum, JL, that sounds really good. You r quite the gourmet cook. My friend barb made us too small pans of enchiladas today. One for tmrw and one for the freezer. I pay for the ingredients. She’s a great cook. We went a place called Grammys goodies for lunch. It’s Italian and as good as the name sounds. The deserts are yummy too. I just had spumoni which I love. We ate outside as a nice fall day. Maybe light snow Monday. I joy excited one bit.
We go on cruise Feb 12 to the western carribbean. We had a surprise group phone call yesterday from Judy’s sister…my other cousin…to tell us they had signed up for our ttt cruise. They won’t go as fans but there are 8 f us going, Judy and gordon that we were in Branson with, Janet and my uncle and Tammy and James. It will be fun. Gamy and Judy are tennorette fans now. I’m not big on arge groups but a cruise will be good as you can kind of all do your own thing. This is a fun group. We also..Louis and I…are going for a. Christmas show in Hutchinson, Ks. In Dec. Hopefully the weather will cooperate Ems graduation is that Friday am so we will leave after that and lunch. I’ll miss the party sat but that’s ok with her as it will be most of her friends. I’m glad you got to go to the show. Ma ma Mia is the show on our cruise. We have to get reservations, they do that on cruises now.
Mary, are you feeling ok? Do u have snow yet? We r still in fall until Monday. My birthday is coming up on Election Day this year! It has been in the past too. Todd listed his home yesterday and he already has an offer on it. God news. Going gambling any time soon? I’ve finally got Louis to agree to use a walker with a seat on the cruise. It will be so much better for him. R ur all ready for winter?
Barb, missing you. What’s up with u? What have u been doing? How r u feeling? Update us on you please. I’ve developed a cough…bronchitis. Dr called me in prescription so I didn’t even have to go in..thank goodness. I feel fine otherwise. JL, the 3rd was a long time ago. Just drop a note about anything. Missed you. Took Kayla out for her bday dinner last night. She’s 24. Tammy will be 54 on Monday. My bday..76 and then Todd’s right after mine and he’ll be 51. Actually his wife will be 50 on the 3rd. Busy month. Lots of Scorpio’s.
BEv, glad to have heard from you. Sure miss seaside
Dianne, How fun that more family members will be on your cruise! One day I will join you and maybe a few owls on a cruise before I age more lol :)
I have been doing fine since my dam fall. I was sore for a few days especially the left side where I landed.
We don't have any current travel plans. I worry about Jim. It would be nice if he would use a walker or at least a cane!
BTW, I am NOT ready for winter!
JustLin, Will the rotation cup resolve itself, or will there be surgery down the road?
I am so sorry about your friend Kathy. That is one of my biggest fears, having to stay in a rehab
place! I guess I better slow down! The thing is, when I fell (got tossed), I was barely moving. It was an old heavy wheel barrow that I was pulling by the wooden handles behind me, and the small hillside caused the front wheel to shift and I was caught between the handles.
Matthew bought me a better lighter, easier one to handle. I was trying to put the old one away behind the garage where it should have been in the first place!
Barb, get thee back here! If you were closer, I would send Matthew over there to help you back in the nest! We miss you!
I have no clue what "sarma or dorma are, 'splain please.
Bebbi, you are so blessed to be close to your Mom! I sure miss mine!
You are such a busy Bebbi-bee! If you were as old as a few owlets, you would be retired already lol! No rush! It will come soon enough!
Seaside, you are another youngin' that is a busy bee! I hope all is well with you.
oops, I should have asked JustLin about the Daorma & Sarma!
Dorma!
Mary I'm the one that made the Sarma. It's a meat mixture folded into a grape leaf. Some cultures call it Dolma. The Sarma version that I know came from an Armenian household. You take all your grape leaf packets (they look like little cigars), pack them snuggly into a saucepan. The recipe I know then has you pour an 8oz can of tomato sauce and 1/4 cup water over your stacked Sarma. Put a heavy plate on them, cover, simmer for an hour. I love them but they are time consuming to make as many of the leaves are unsuitable because of tears or whatever. I love them warm, cold, or room temperature. As a meal with rice or just as a snack.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARB! I hope you do something fun today. Any plans? I wish you’d be able to get into the nest. Missing you what’s new with you? If you can’t get I’m then please post on text.
JL, that sounds like a lot of work on cooking? You r turning into quite the little cook! Louis has now bought three bags of candy for Monday. We’ve never had one person in all these years. I’m still coughing but much better.
Mary, you be more careful please. I just heard about someone that fell
and broke his back in two places. It can happen in a flash. Louis is very wobbly but using a cane I think he needs a walker. I can remember he’s agreed to use a walker full time on cruise. We had snow yesterday for quite a bit of the day. It was 34 so between the last few days it was too warm to stick much. I’m so not ready for it. Barb and JL, get your spare room ready…for the winter. I think Mary and I will be arriving soon.
Well, our broncos are horrible we have a new coach and the QB RUSSEL WILSON from Seattle that won two Super Bowls. We r paying him $245 million and we've won two games! We play in London very early this Sunday. The fans are no,shows, leaving game early and booing the team and coach. It only bad but boring games. We get no touchdowns so our scores r like 9! Glad I sell my season tickets
Be nice, you r a busy girl. Keep checking in with us. I sent a text to seaside few days ago but haven’t heard a word back has anyone talked with her at all? I sure hope all is ok. Well, sun is out and going to 65 today. Sunday is barbs bday and we’re going gambling with a few friends. The weather is supposed to be nice and we’re going for the afternoon.
Have a great day and birthday barb.
Dianne, Snow? Bleck! We have had heavy frost, but no snow! Jim, Matthew and I all raked leaves yesterday. We had at least 10 large loads on a tarp and the Maple leaves close to the house are not even half down!
I visited a sweet couple from my home town Sat. They are now in an assisted living home about 20 miles from me. 95% of the residents are Mennonites. My friends aren't. It is a new state of the art facility. My Father stayed there before the brand new updates. I don't think I would like it there in spite of the immaculate rooms and homemade food. They don't allow tv s. My friend does have a computer, as she loves to write and checks in on FB. She is so cute. She and her hubby are 93! You may see her "like" my posts. Her name is Carol Merchant.
I visited another friend in a rehab nursing home a few days ago. I worked with her at GM. She retired a couple years after me. She is Jim's age (78). After retiring, she was having a stress test at her Drs and had a stroke. She had a second one a few days later. That one blinded her.
She had a few falls at her daughter's home so was at rehab trying to build up her leg muscles.
Her SS ins. would only cover one week. She had to turn in her drivers license and sell the car of her dreams she had recently bought, and her home. She is also on Dialysis. So sad :(
I am so glad I did all of my travels here and overseas before my knee got worse! I still have at least one more cruise on my bucket list :)
Our Lions are worse then your Broncs Dianne! Oh well, I won $100 on my football squares. Jim won $50.
I steam moped all the floors today, dusted, and made chicken dinner. It is supposed to rain tomorrow, then nice weather the rest of the week. I was hoping for another hard frost so we could finish raking! Leaves fall after a heavy frost. Now if the wind would just blow them over to the neighbors across the road lol!!
