  1. Update on incident next door: Two people were killed and two people critically injured. No suspects, so far. We have yellow tape across from the incident house next door to the house on the other side of us. Sheenah was supposed to come over and do a mani/pedi, but they told us they wouldn’t let her in because it’s a crime scene! So, I called her and we rescheduled to Wednesday. There are so many cop cars on the street, we couldn’t count them because they went around the corner! It’s been the lead story on all the local news stations! A friend of Todd’s called him and told him it was our house and he freaked. He called me and I told him it was next door, then he got upset because I didn’t let him know right away. I didn’t even think about letting him know! Anyway, we are fine. All the cops and the yellow tape are still here and the cops have been using our bathroom! So, that’s all for now!

  2. Good Lord Barb!! What a day you are having! Any idea how they died? My imagination has been working overtime! Wondering if a stray bullet is lodged on your house! Did you hear any commotion over there?

I just saw two things on FB that were sad, first our local country type pizza store is on fire. I feel so bad for the guy. He has worked so hard to get his business built up!

There other news was that one of my GM luncheon friends passed away. Not sure if I told you about her. She worked & retired from GM about 5 yrs ago. Soon after she was diagnosed with kidney failure and put on dialysis. Soon after she had a stroke that left her blind. She had to sell her house and most of her hard earned possessions. She was a die hard Elvis fan. Her house was loaded with his paraphernalia. She recently lost her precious dog :( She had been staying with her daughter. I found this out just as I got done donation blood.
Later I will tell you something about that.
Keep us posted on the neighbors before I conjure up more horror stories in my brain lol!!

  3. Barb Wow! And poor Todd! He must have been frantic thinking this all happened at your house. I wonder if the survivors will move elsewhere now. That might be a good thing. Maybe the owner of the property will finally just sell it so you can get some more conventional type neighbors. I wonder if the shootings were drug related. I hope they find who did it. Thank God the shooter(s) knew which house was the correct one. So the police are using your bathroom? I think that means you can claim to be aiding in the investigation. :)

  4. Mary I'm sorry for your sad news. We've gotten to that age where we are losing friends and it sucks. Sorry about the pizza place, too. Restaurants in general have had such a rough go of it since the pandemic. I make a conscious effort to frequent or order take out from our local little places that I know are struggling.

  5. JustLin, I just found out my friend is still alive! Her Granddaughter put out a long obit-like
statement on her FB wall. One small sentence made me investigate she wrote way towards the end,
"When the time comes for her to leave us in body". She got a lot of condolences and she never corrected them! Most of her sentences started with "She was".
My girlfriend just called and kind of scolded me for not letting her know of her (Diane) passing.
I told her what I had found out. My buddy, wrote back to me "Diane is still in there fighting!"
    Geesh!

  6. So yesterday every local news program led with the story about the house next door. It’s even on YouTube. Just put in “Rogue River shooting in Sacramento.” One of the clips even shows Chad driving in the driveway, coming back from getting us coffee. Today, not a peep about it, so I don’t have an update.
I do have an update about my Goddaughter. She passed away early this morning. She was 67.

Mary, How strange that your friend’s granddaughter wrote that post like an obituary. You probably aren’t the only one that thought she passed. It’s sad about the pizza place burning. Do they know what started the fire? I hope they had good insurance. Like Linda, we make a effort to patronize some of the small businesses around the neighborhood that are struggling.

JL, yes, Todd freaked when his friend told him it was our house, especially because he knows that at least one of the people living there is a drug dealer. All kinds of scenarios went through his mind.

Dianne, are you all unpacked and planning your next cruise? When is Louis’ surgery? I know you told us, but I forgot.

  7. Hi…gosh barb how scary. Like JL said I’m glad they went to the right house. Was you nail person allowed in today? I wonder if the dead people live in that house? Im like Mary thinking about everything. Im very sorry about your Goddaughter. She was so young too. I’ve been praying for her. Boy, I’ll bet todd freaked out just so much unknown. Interesting that they r using your bathroom. I guess if you gotta go you gotta go!

Mary, your friend sounds like she wrote her comment kind of wrong. So sorry about your local pizza place. We to try to go to small restaurants. I’m sure noticing the prices at restaurants. Drinks..coke..r $4 and $5. The last just regular places I always go have new menus and hamburgers are $17.50. It’s getting very hard to do so many lunches.

Today Em finally came over and cleaned my two clothes closets, a dresser and some things in my office. We have nine bags for vets and two huge trash bags. I had so many of two sizes. We got rid of a lot of the smaller ones..some still had tags on them. We found a few duplicate shirts in different sizes. My clothes were crammed in each closet..summer and winter. They r now separated by size and color. Looks so nice. She does a great job and gets me to get rid of things. I don’t think I need anything this summer. We had a million good hangers left over. She went home with a few bags of things..not clothes but some of the smaller tops for tam. Em had a lot of things. I’m glad she can use some of it. I didn’t even know what was in the dresser. I couldn’t get to it but now I can. I am unpacked just a couple of bags To empty. I had to get things ready for taxes too. I wish I was planning my next cruise. Louis’s surgery is st Patrick’s Day the 17th first thing in the morning. He’s back to walking the mall and up to three laps. I’m really proud of him. He’s very anxious for the day to arrive. They have a back brace for him and now some kind of a bone scanner. His new cpap is finally arriving on the 29th. Very busy the next week for sure. He has a lot of dr appts still although he’s done quite a few of them.
My neighbor that I don’t know very well calked tonight and offered to get my mail and then I can just go by his house periodically. I just thought that was so nice of him. That’s been a huge worry to me. We r putting a walker on the porch so if pkgs come I can get them as there’s a large step going out our front door.

Well….that’s about it. Barb stay safe. I’m so glad you’re ok. Love all of you! ❤️

  8. I have another update on the shooting next door. They have made arrest! Thank goodness. There’s been a lot of activity at the house today. One of the critically injured victims had died. I also just heard today that the shooter shot both of their dogs. One died and the other was injured. Animal control took both dogs.

Dianne, I need Em to come and help me clean out my spare room. I have started it many times, but I just can’t do it! I don’t know how I could forget Louis’ surgery date! Not only is it St. Patrick’s Day, it’s Todd’s birthday! How nice of your neighbor to pick up your mail. Once when I had to go out of town for work, a friend offered to get my mail, but when I got home my mailbox was stuffed! She forgot. Good thing I was only gone three days. I always had my mail held by the P. O. after that.

JL, The cops used our bathroom because Chad was outside talking to them and one mentioned to the other that he’d be right back. He was going to the gas station three blocks away to use the rest room. So Chad offered up ours!

  9. Well, my friend Diana passed away for real this time. She passed at the time of our lunch where she usually attended. She was very out spoken and could be abrasive, but she was honest to a fault. She was a union gal and a feminist to the core. It was only right that she passed on Wed. when women were honored.

SacBarb.I know we asked you to comment even if you thought it was boring, but a murder? eek! It certainly has been anything but boring lol! So sad about the dogs! :( Was there only that one death? Thanks goodness they didn't go on a neighborhood rage!

The only thing happening around here is the 7 inches of snow we got last night! Very heavy and another school snow day! I don't think it will stick around too long our temps have been slowly rising.

  10. Dianne, How great that you have help sorting and organizing your things. I have been doing that a bit at a time all year. I got rid of a lot of old medical files/folders. I used to keep all the manuals of things I purchased. they took up a lot of space. It is easy to Google whatever I need to know. Matthew finds a lot of help through that and vids on utube.

I will keep you both in my prayers, especially for Louis on surgery day.

JustLin, I too seek out local businesses and restaurants. I get homemade soaps, herbal muscle & joint rubs, home made kitchen towels/pot holders et. at craft shows. In season, I find fruit. honey & veggies from local farmers. Our meat is black Angus from local farmer. I drive a bit out of the way to get farm raised chicken. You can really taste the difference!

  11. Mary, we haven’t heard anything about the two people who were critically injured and taken to the hospital, but two others were killed. They arrested a young guy (30ish) that grew up in this neighborhood. Dean’s son and stepdaughter kinda know him. He is a very troubled kid and has been in and out of prison a few times. I guess this will give him a permanent sentence. It’s very sad. We heard that he was there to do a drug deal earlier in the day and there was an argument. He left, but came back about 1:30am, walked in and just started shooting! All 4 people and the dogs were sitting in the living room!

  12. SacBarb, I can't stop thinking about those poor dogs :(
I wonder if the owner of the house has been there and hopefully getting rid of the current tenants.

  13. Barb You are lucky to have your concrete block fence as it will never blow down. I had Safeway do my grocery shopping and when I went to pick it up, I noticed other yards along the way that had fencing blown down. Yesterday, I saw that a front yard tree just two doors down had blown down and was resting on a car. The car belongs to someone who rents some downstairs area of the house. I don't think it was damaged badly but maybe scraped up a bit.

Speaking of having Safeway do the shopping for me...... A while ago, I ordered 4 carrots and got 4 POUNDS of carrots. So this time I ordered 2, thinking I would get a couple of pounds worth. Nope. They gave me only 2 carrots. LOL They were also out of stock for the corned beef I wanted so I'm going to have to go back to the store anyway, for that and for more carrots.

It's been raining on and off all day but at least there are no winds so I can breathe easy.

  14. Mary You are doing a great job of supporting your local businesses. When spring finally arrives, the local Farmer's Market will set up again on Wednesdays. I used to go to it and thoroughly enjoyed looked at and buying all the beautiful produce and other goods, like baked goods, cheeses, dips, etc. I found it to be enjoyable and relaxing and I like the idea of supporting local farms.

Generally, I don't like shopping but I sure like getting a good deal. I buy my birdseed at the local ACE Hardware and I get coupons in the mail from them and am pretty good about using them when I can. Well, the other day I got a coupon for $20 off of a purchase for $20 or more. What? It must have been a misprint because usually you have to purchase quite a lot to get $20 off. I didn't even need birdseed quite yet but I rushed on over there so I could use my coupon before I forgot about it and let it expire.

The talkative turkeys just walked by my house during this lull in the rain. When it was only one turkey, she was quiet, but now that it's two turkeys, they gobble almost the whole time. They are very loud and funny.

  15. Dianne I need to sort through my closet and get rid of stuff, too. It used to be easier to donate when there was a Salvation Army drop off spot in a large bus parking lot not far from me. When COVID hit they stopped being there and haven't returned.

I'm looking forward to the Oscars. Jane and I like to comment on what the women are wearing and I've seen a lot of the movies. I'm also really looking forward to the chili she's making from her husband's recipe. She hasn't made it in quite a while and it is soooo good! Maybe I was a dog in another life. I am very treat oriented. LOL

I think it is a good sign that Louis will have his surgery on St. Patrick's Day. He will have the luck of the Irish with him.

  16. JL, so what did you do with 4 lbs. of carrots? Chad made corned beef yesterday and instead of putting the carrots in with the meat while it was cooking as he usually does, he cut them in half, lengthwise, and baked them with a little butter in the pan. They were yummy. One of our stores had a sale on corned beef for $1.89 lb. So he got two. He plans to cook the other one next weekend. He is such a good shopper, watching the ads every week. I love that I don’t have to shop for groceries.
We have a flock of turkeys that roam the neighborhood and they “talk” a lot, too! There are about 10 hens all following one Tom!

Mary, so far, I have not seen the owner of the house next door. I don’t know what he’ll do about the people that are left in the house. I wouldn’t want to continue to live there, if it were me! I don’t know if they have cleaned it up, yet! We haven’t heard anything on the news after the shooter was arrested.

  17. Barb I did end up using most of the carrots in one way or the other. I think I made beef stew, for one thing, and I do like cooked carrots as a side at dinner. I don't know what the problem is with whoever does the Safeway shopping I never have a problem when ordering tomatoes. If I ask for 4, I get 4, not 4 pounds. There was a real head-scratcher with my most recent order. I ordered a pack of AA batteries. They were out of stock so they substituted AAA batteries. Huh? In what universe would AAA's work in place of AA's? Fortunately, I was sent an email alerting me to the substitution so I was able to cancel that purchase.

It continues to rain but I think we're done with the high winds now. It's been pretty calm for a while now. I have more fence damage and I'm really unhappy about it. I don't need this headache or this expense. It is time for me to pay my semi-annual property taxes, not to mention I'll be paying a pretty penny for tax prep.

I picked up some more carrots yesterday and am all set to make my corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. I already had the red potatoes. So yummy.

  18. Hi. Well, we r getting things last minute ready. Need a few things ready for me around here. Travel chair in my car, mail key to neighbor, gas and car wash on my car. Louis will be busy tmrw..packing, etc. we have to be at hospital at 6:30 am Friday. I can see a nap in my future. I took one at 7 tonight and didn’t wake up until 9:45! I was a little irritated with louis and he was watching basketball too so I decided to get some space. He’s still fighting me on rehab kind of like he did the scooter on cruise and it’s exhausting. Went to Ww today and they r shutting down the studios. They r going to try and open in a hotel but no longer 11am class. One at 9:30. It’s a good 45 min from here. I love and know the coach and we r a small group so I know everyone there too. Everyone is very upset. I don’t quite know what I’m going to do. That’s very early to drive that far. Ww has also teamed up with a company that u pay $99 to go to a dr that will give u a prescription for ozempic. It’s a shot. It is so irritating as it’s a diabetic shot that I use once a week. I can no longer get it as it’s sold out to people to lose weight. I’m very resentful about that and we had to go to a third type..if i can get it. It’s also over $100 a month for a once a week shot. That’s my rant today…between Ww and rehab. Grr

Barb, that’s so scary with the people next door. I would think the owner would toss them out already. What a darn mess to clean up. Do you know the owner? Probably. I couldn’t do my closet alone either. You could fly Em and she could get you all organized. She’s for rent pretty cheap she hasn’t found a job since Dec graduation so shes available. She’s looking kind of. Her boyfriend has been here for a week on spring break. She’s very focused. Jl, I didn’t watch the Oscar’s. Was it still very political? That’s why I quit watching. I can’t stand political regardless who it’s about on an entertainment show.

Todd and liane bought a new build house that will be ready in 14 months. His new position starts on the 26th. It’s very exciting for him to get his group together also. They went out of town for a few days for Ashton’s laCrosse games. They won and one game he did the winning shot in ot. He’s..well all three of them ..r all very sports minded. Ash has one more year in high school. He and Todd r going to Tennessee the end of the month to look at college. Todd says he has a girlfriend now so we will see how that plays out. I’ve been working on my office sorting things. Em got it all out from a shelf on desk I couldn’t reach. Two leather envelopes. One had my mom and dads death info. The other one had envelopes each labeled with college, bronco tickets, etc. I found over $1000 in all the envelopes. It’s been there for over 20 years. I then looked through everything before throwing away. We had a lot of trash.

Barb, look up the VVA veterans assoc .they will pick up bags off your porch and driveway. U just go online and pick a day. It’s very handy. As I think I mentioned I had ten bags for them.

Mary, we have had 70 degree weather but it’s starting to snow tonight. I hate it btw. Spring is Monday…ha! Sorry u lost your friend. It’s so hard when you’ve been friends for so long. Wel, I think I’ve about covered everything. I’ll try and come on here to report on Louis Friday night. Prayers please thanks❤️
