I had to laugh at all the first time freshman parents! They were astounded that it was Saturday afternoon and they STILL had no idea what "the plan" was for the Homecoming dance. Who was driving who! Who was going with which group! Where was everyone meeting for dinner? Are they meeting at someones house first for pictures? We told all our kids (senior included) that we wanted to know "the plan" ahead of time, or they weren't going! We knew enough, though, to give them some leeway because so many kids were involved and twice as many parents!
The Freshmen:
The freshman football players were told that they had to ask a girl to the dance or they would be running the next week during practice. So my boy asked Paige. Now, my son has horrible taste in girls. He seems to like the "slutty" ones (according to my daughter!). Paige, as it turns out, is my daughter's friend, and was a delightful girl. I met her at the Homecoming game on Friday night. I asked for her parents phone number so I could call them the next day to make sure we agreed on "the plan." She was a little taken aback and said, "Oh! You want my father's phone number?" I thought that sounded kind of odd and told her that either her mother's or father's phone number would do. She gave me her dad's number. I pulled my daughter aside and asked if there was a mom in the picture. Oh dear Lord! Paige's mother died of cancer when she was in 7th grade. I seem to be really good at opening mouth and inserting foot!!! (i was going to say, "Shut up....." to a certain person or two.....but "Shut up all-a-ya's!!!")
My daughter wasn't going with a date, but luckily for us, she was going with the same group my son was going with. "The plan" was to pick up Paige near school and drive half way back to the restaurant where 40 freshman students were meeting for dinner. Hubby and I were going to eat there as well and then drive the kids back to school for the dance. Three hours later, we'd (I'd) go pick them up, drop Paige off, and come home with the twins. Simple! ......I should have known!
Joe (football player) met at the house at 3:30pm. We drove him and the twins to Paige's house where we met up with a total of 10 kids to take pictures. We had to be at Trio by 5:30pm to meet up with the 30 other kids having dinner. We drove my twins, Paige, Joe, Grace and Eric to the restaurant. We left them there with instructions on when to call us to pick them up. We were on our way to a friend's house for dinner. The kids called us at about 7pm saying they had just gotten the check and to pick them up. I was the lucky one to drive them since the mister was smart enough to start drinking and was in no condition to drive! I took the same 6 kids to the school, but we were too early and I had to drive around for a while so they could be fashionably late (8:05pm!). I drove to the church across the street from the University and told them all to get out of the car and go in and say a prayer! A couple of them thought I was serious and looked so worried. My kids knew better. The church was locked! I dropped them off at 7:55pm. I was hungry and I was lucky enough not to have to pick them up later. Joe's parents were taking care of that, so back to our friend's house I went.
The Seniors:
The seniors were somewhat easier. Pam decided to have 44 of her son's closest friends over for dinner before the dance. Pam's house has what I guess you would call a finished attic. She uses the space for scrapbooking, but that night, 5 tables were set up, china and silverware set out, and a really nice dinner served. She made the yummiest beef I've tasted in a long time. She also served salmon. They had veggies and salad and potatoes. And the desserts! OMG!!!!! All was served by the parents. I didn't know that part when she invited us over for dinner as well!
My son asked Teresa. I had never heard of her. I checked with my daughter (my gauge), and she didn't know anything about her either. Drat! My son was already upstairs when Teresa arrived with her mother. She was being dropped off because she lived an hour away and the mom didn't want my son driving so far. (major points right there!) When she introduced herself (I was standing by the front door letting everyone in), I was so relieved that she wasn't one of the slutty girls I had let in earlier! Her eyes lit up when I told her who I was. She had the prettiest smile and her whole face lit up. Her mom was just as sweet. In fact, we talked for quite some time before we realized that we should be helping! lq~
I was a little bummed that the kids all left while I was carting the freshmen around. Hubby took some group pictures, but he forgot to turn on the flash and they didn't turn out. (the tequila might have had something to do with that!) I'll check with Pam to see if she got any.
All in all, even though it was hectic, it was a fun night for the kids and the parents. The boys had fun with their dates and my daughter was very glad she didn't settle for a boy she didn't want to go with, like some of her friends did.
Oh! I almost forgot. My daughter came home and said that she saw her older brother on the dance floor......grinding.....and said to me, "That's a picture I could have gone the rest of my life without seeing!"

ga!!! not u again! you're so boring~ .....yet still pretty~
Morning Glories!
Congrats on first Tina!
I loved this blog! LOL many times.
Lessons learned for Tina:
Hubby very smart, drinking early, no driving a boat load of hormonal teenagers around.
Pam even smarter! Don't tell the parents they are there to help serve and not just eat! I like this woman!
Tina next time you better bring your A++ game!
The pictures are so cute and priceless takes me back many years remembering my first homecoming and then the kids.
I think you should have made them get out and pray in front of the church! NOW that picture would have been for the record books! Oh and the blackmail opportunities would have lasted all the way to college. LMAO
Good morning LynnD & Tina. Congrats (snort!) on #1, you freak!
What a delightful blog! I mean that in the most sincere way. I loved reading about the kids as well as the parents.
Love Eunice's new look. Very Herman Munster-ish.
J/Lin; from A51, you assume correctly.
Hope everyone's getting a great start today!
Tina, Morning and Happy 1, hmmm.. pretty? you or Eunice?
Morning.. Lynn
Good Morning Hooters!
Congrats on 1st tina~ and it was a great blog. Made me think about the days my boys were doing that kind of thing.
LOL @ telling them to get out and go pray!
Hi to Lynn and Carol too!!
sorry bona- I missed you the first time but waving a wing now!
Tina..
Loved your blog, and loved the pics. Homecoming must be so fun, especially for the kids, and especially for your kid if he gets a slutty girl, cause that is triple fun! :O)
It seems you had everything organized, I would think it would be better that way, so nobody is running around in all different directions. However! I am with hubby, did he play beer pong?
I think its great that the parents get all involved, its seems they enjoy as well..
But wait, doesn't homecoming have something to do with a football game? Or is that just a east coast thing?
Hello.. to Goldie and Bonacci!
Tina..
Forgot.. lol "get out and pray"
Mo..
Area 51, hope ur day is better today, and I would surly miss ya!
I have to start my day..
Hope all has good day!
:O)
J/L..
Area 51, I agree..Farming takes up to much time, I am kinda sorry I started it, cause now I feel I have to finish it, I am looking forward to the day, where I am over it.. :O)
Tina, I LOL'ed at hubby taking advantage of all the frantic activity to drink tequilla!
You certainly brought a lot of memories back with the blog today! But in my case, mostly they're memories of how I tried to get away from my dates so I wouldn't have to make out with them! :)
Good morning!
Loved the blog Tina! The kids all look so happy!
It made me think of my brother, and how all the kids gathered at our house for pictures.
I didn't "do" homecoming, my friends were all older, and I didn't parttake in many school activities, other than going to a dance now and then.
The bay area is having it's first major storm, it's windy and heavy rain.
We have to venture out a little later, we planned to go out to lunch, and have some shopping and errands to do.
We heard Poe say "Nancy" for the first time yesterday! We are always excited when he says something new!
Love "bride of Eunice" avatar!
Hope everyone has a nice day!
LynnD~ I should have made the kids get out and pray! For ME!!!
Bonachichi~ what are you trying to say, freak?!!~
Carol~ The football game was friday night and the dance on saturday night~ We won~ :D ...and hubby played with the wine and tequilla only!!~
Goldie~ I'm glad I got involved so that when I'm old like you and someone reminds me of Homecoming, I'll have these fond memories~ :)~
Bear~ lol@trying not to make out with the girls~ ewwww~ :D
EBJ~ I didn't go to Homecoming either.....just prom~ Congrats on Poe's new word~
If you click on the pictures...they get huge...the girl in the non-bronco orange dress is my daughter and the boy in the back on the right is my son....his date is standing next to him~ :D
Tina, your avatar scared the bageebies out of me!
I loved your prom night pics and story! It brought back fun memories for me.
I will read comments and post more later. I have been busy all day cleaning out the area where my new pantry will be, and have a hair appointment in a couple hrs after I pick up VFW Auxiliary groceries. I have not had time to eat more than a half a sandwich, no wonder I feel dizzy lol!
BBLater......
It's a quiet day here in the nest.
We are still having a downpour, it hasn't let up all day.
There are lots and lots of power outages all around the bay area today. I hope we don't lose ours, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do.
We didn't even go out and do our errands due to the rain.
The news has reported many car accidents, and fallen trees.
Tina Congrats on scaring us first today! Love the avatar and love the blog. The kids look so cute and I think it's a great idea that they went out with a group of friends. Telling them to get out and pray was hysterical! Isn't it fun to do stuff like that to the kids? I remember homecoming when I was a freshman and also as a senior but not the ones in between. As a senior, I was a homecoming princess so I guess I'd really have a problem if I didn't remember that! LOL
EBJ This storm has some very strong winds. This morning there were emergency vehicles outside my house because a power line had gone done two doors up from me. So far, I don't see any of my roof shingles going by, no major tree branches or trees are down in my yard, and the fence is still standing. I am amazed that the hummingbirds are still out in this weather. When they are on the feeder it's like they are on a very wild amusement park ride.
I guess I commented too soon. I just now saw that an 8ft section of my back fence is down. Damn!
TINA: I love the blog and reading about the dance and preparations. I enjoy all the things with the kids so much. Your Senior son and date look so cute. She is very pretty and I like her dress.
Your twins are so cute too. I was so pleased when you told me last week that your daughter and picked out a Bronco orange dress. I only wish I would have had time to send her a hat or scarf. I loved her dress and brother and date look good too. A group of nice looking children. (They must really look like their dad, j/s) :)
I was at the nail shop on Saturday and there were homecoming kids in there and one girl told me that 25 of them were going to dinner and they couldn't all decide on a place and finally called and made reservations that morning. I thought they were lucky to find some place that would take that many with such short notice. The other girl with her hadn't picked out a dress yet.
I always enjoy hearing stories about your children...they alway make me laugh. I can just see you and the other mother sitting there talking away, snacking and drinking while all the other parents are working and you have no idea that is why you are there. Imagine those other women gossiping about you two!!
J/L and EBJ: I wonder if you will get snow? lol What is your temp? Sorry your fence fell down. Now you will have to find a hunky handyman to fix it for you.
LYNND: J/L was correct in Area 51 about what I was saying about Letterman. I sure have some men in my past that I don't need to tell my husband about BUT I was living with him with our child when those men were "tickling my fancy" (so to speak). So, that's all I'm saying.
MO: Please be sure you read my comment to you in Area 51.
MARY: You are sure in the cleaning mood lately. Are you feeling okay? I think it is time for another LV trip for you.
CAROL: "You will be glad when you are done farming", that will be a long time to reach the level of 34 and then they will probably make it more.
You farmers will get a laugh out of this story. My husband and I were talking last night about all the road construction. I was telling him about how many signs regarding "bumps" and paving there were between my daughters house and ours. As I was telling him I said, "they are harvesting everywhere along the road". He looked at me like I had two heads. I meant to say paving. Now this was about 3M after harvesting and plowing all night.
BTW, he told me who is was picking for his FFootball team this morning so there would be no issues. I wasn't getting up that early for a player again anyway. Yesterday up at 6:30AM was early enough for m. As ZONA said, I really think I am a farmer with those hours.
Happy Tuesday Owls.
Tina, What a happy blog today. When I was in school (100 years ago) we went to the homecoming dance right after the game. I dated a football player, so I went with another couple and waited for him at the dance.
My kids' school, like yours, had the game on Friday and the dance on Saturday. They had a lot of fun experiences and I thank you for bringing back those memories.
Okay, last entry for awhile. BEAR: I had to laugh at your comment last night trying to wiggle out of your comments the previous nights. You are always celebrating something---fun!
I also wanted to say hello to Bonochichi and Goldie. Bono, I don't ever see y ou on your farm and Goldie...what are you up too?
Ok, thinking of a possible nap. See ya' all later
EBJ and J/L, It has been storming here all night and day too. There are trees down all over town and I am afraid I will lose electric power soon.
J/L,m sorry about your fence going down. A few years before my Hubby died, we put up a block wall all around our house because he got tired of replacing sections of our fence. I am so happy that he did that. Now I don't have to worry about it.
The lights are blinking so I better get off the computer.
Dianne Reread your second paragraph at 6:21. Is that what you meant to say? Just curious.
EBJ I just recently pulled an 8 or 9 ft branch out of the street that fell off of my tree in the front yard. Fortunately, it wasn't too thick or heavy for me to move myself.
SacBarb That's good that you have a block wall so you don't have to fret about it every storm the way I do about my fence.
oh yeah J/L~ Di's a whore~ thru and thru~ :)~
Hi Sac-ee, J/L, Di, and Mary~
We got a weather bulletin this morning about SFO....our usual ones are about Atlanta or New York....hardly ever for the west coast. Hope you all weather the storm okay~ (and don't send it here, for God's sake!!!) ijs~
Tina Somehow, I think Di meant to include the word "not"! LOL
CORRECTION FOR 6:21 PM POST:
I "WASN'T" living with my husband when I was "getting to know other men". ZONA just called me and told me what i had written and she first of all wanted to know where that kid was and what was MRD doing while I was fooling around. Amazing how just not putting an "nt" on a word changes the whole meaning. LYNND: You might not have loved me anymore :)
Tina At the moment, it's pretty calm. I'm hoping that the worst of the winds are over.
Dianne I thought that was a pretty bold confession for the blog. LOL
J/L: I am glad you are here to keep me out of trouble and translate my posts for me. It is nice that you have gotten to know me well enough to know what I am really trying to say. And, I guess that is why I don't give my full opinion much. Of course, TINA had to notice it. I hadn't even read back and had gone off the blog when ZONA called and had all those questions about my post. She didn't want me to correct it, she was all the gory details!
well Di~ considering all your other confessions (to me in private!)....this wasn't too far fetched~ ijs~ :)~
Let's march!

J/L: Hey, if I can' trust my friends with my detailed life then who can I trust?
I also wanted to ask you "older" people a question. When TINA told me about homecoming she said she was going to get the flowers for the girls. I asked her if they still had the mums. There was dead silence on her part and then she told me she didn't know what I was talking about. Don't some of you remember the big mums and the year you graduated as hanging in the middle? I can't be that old.
Damn!
Di Mums hanging in the middle of what?
oh shut up....i told you on the phone....i know what a mum is....i was silent cuz in my head i was saying, "God Di is old!!!" :)~
p.s. Shirley~ I got 50~ :D
Tina Congrats on stealing 50! ;)
TINA: If you were up harvesting and plowing all night you would be drunk typing too.
true di~
Thanks J/L~
I'm off and going home~ ttyl~

ROFLMAO@Di's post! Damn, I wish I read the day's comments front to back rather than back to front (why do I do it in that order.... stupid!!), or I'd have been laughing even harder!
Bear Are you the kind of person that reads the end of a book first so you'll know how it ends?
Evening All!
TINA: Great pictures of your kids and their friends! They all look so happy and excited. It sure sounds like they had fun at Homecoming...it sounds like you and Mr T had a good time as well.
It's cool that all the parents got together to make this such a nice event for the kids..the memories made that night will last a lifetime.
LOL @ "opening mouth and inserting foot.." are you sure you meant to write..'foot'? ;)
Tina everytime you tell us a story about your kids I love it. This one was no exception. You are so envolved in their lives. They may not always appreciate it right now, but years from now they will. So many parents today don't make the time to do things with their kids and to know what's going on in their lives. You and Mr.T are great parents and I applaud you both. I know I tease and bug you sometimes, but I really mean what I said. I'm glad I know you. (((HUGS)))
TINA: Congrats on FIRST!
CAROL: Please go to my island and take something..I'm worried about you..your raspberries never seem to last the night.. ;)
EBJ: I saw the storm on the news..it looks really scary..has it died down any tonight?
J/LIN: Sorry to hear about the fence..dang..is everything else ok?
BEAR: I read an article the other day that said..not only do I live in AZ..I kinda live on the moon as well... ;)
SACBARB: It wasn't 100 years ago..sheesh..lol..
I hope you are safe and didn't lose power..
DIANNE: I thought you were already wearing overalls and sucking on...wait what was it J/LIN said....oh yea...'straw'.. :)
Sorry, it seems I'm a little bit orally fixated tonight... ;)
Waving HI to LYNND, CAROL, GOLDIE, MARY and BONACHI!
Hi SHIRLEY!
JL, sorry to hear about the fence, that "sux"
Zona, the rain has slowed way down finally. It poured all day, with howling winds.
I am not sure what tomorrow and the rest of the week has in store, hope it's not intense as today.
Shirley I agree with you about Tina and other parents who are very involved with their kids. I think it's absolutely necessary.
Barb, hope you didn't lose electricity. There was a warning earlier that the power is out in many areas and we are to try to conserve tonight. If we don't we may be subject to rolling blackouts.
I so agree with SHIRLEY about TINA being involved with the kids. I don't think that has changed over the years but some of the parents sure have changed. A little girl came to my GD's bday party Friday night and Tammy didn't know the parents. They just dropped her off..no one came in to see the house, meet my daughter, etc. And when they picked her up Saturday AM they still didn't come in. Now would any of you drop your child for a sleepover at a house and parent you had never met before? Crazy to me.
ZONA: While we are playing True Confessions, why don't you tell the Owls how you cooked last night? It will make my cooking nights look good. :)
OMG Zona!!! Do you cook in the nude?
Shirley~ that's very sweet of you to say~ I love my kids, but I gotta tell you....i've only been writing about the good stuff...if I wrote about the times when I just want to kill the little shits, no one else would get a chance to write a blog! ijs~ I have to tell you...while I was writing this blog last night, and it seemed to go on forever....my older son looked at me and said, "I can't believe you write that stuff and you don't even have to!" lol! I was yelling at him to write his thank you note for Pam!
Di~ I have to tell you....there have been times where I've just dropped off my kids.....I'm so used to my hubby knowing everybody, that I just don't question anything. (there have been times when I secretly hoped that they would just keep my kid!)
Bear~ you make me laugh~
Shirley..
I ditto everything you said about Tina and her kids.. well I don't ditto the hugs.. LOL
Perfect!
Zona..
I am going to steal from you, cause my island is drowning... but I can't steal till tomorrow.. I had to get off fb cause the "charmer" seems to go on fb late and then im's me.. and the convo begins.. so I will def steal tomorrow... TY..
and
Thanks for not stealing from me.. Tina always does, she has no sympathy that my island is drowning..
and
Shirley.. I confess I stole from you but it did not help much, its still drowning..
J/L..
Sorry about ur fence.. I have some extra ones on farmville you can borrow.. well.. actually I will sell them to you.. :O)
EBJ..
Sorry about your awful weather, I hate when it rains all day, ya just can't get nothing done..
Dianne...
LOL.. on living with your hubby while men were courting you. and yes, I know mums.. don't listen to Tina, all she has been hearing lately is mooing..
AND..
LOL.. on harvesting.. LOL
J/L..
Just want to clarify.. I am really sorry about ur fence, I made the farmville joke to make you smile..
Sometimes jokes are good, but sometimes they are not.. so sorry.. did not want you to think I did not feel bad about ur fence..
Tomorrow is our last Wednesdays with Whabby.. I can't believe how fast that went.. I am surely going to miss them..
Thanks Whabby for all the work you put into them, I know I did not understand many, but just the thought of you doing all that work certainly deserves double KUDOS..
What should we do on Wednesdays now?
I am heading to utube.. bbl
how 'bout Whore Whednesdays? All the whores could take turns writing a blog! Di....that means you have to write a blog every Wednesday for the rest of ur life!!! :)~
Tina..
LMAO..
:O)
Ok.. done with utube.. so I am off to bed..
Mo.. hope ur day was better ♥♥♥
Nite to all!
And don't forget sharpen those number 2's cause tomorrow will be the last..
:O)
TINA: I can't believe you said that about me for Wednesday!! Everyone knows from your videos that I am sweet and wholesome. Just wait until I meet these friends in Chicago and it will confirm it. Okay, when do I submit my first Wednesday blog?
Zona, EBJ and Carol Thanks for the condolences on the fence. What a pain in the ass but others have worse damage.
Carol I knew you were kidding. I wish it were that easy that I could just get some fencing from you on FB. :)
lmbo Di~ NEXT WEDNESDAY~
J/L~ you know....you'd have no idea that your fence was down if you were on facebook farming! ijs~ :)~
LOL at you all! Feeling the love in the nest tonight...
Shirley, I agree with what you said about Tina! :)
Carol, thanks for the kind words on the WW blogs!
Dianne, are you planning on Chicago?
J/L, EBJ, and SacBarb: Well, that was quite the day, wasn't it? I checked out Stevens Creek a couple of times, and it was a raging torrent at around 5 this afternoon. Yesterday at that time, it was bone dry!
We really need the rain, so I'm hoping it's the start of a nice juicy wet season.
Meanwhile, Whore Wednesdays? I like the topic area!
Zona: Does Randy ever say "To the Moon, Zona! To the moon!!" ??
LOL at him calling you Zona!!
There was an earthquake tonight. Not bad, 3.7. Did anyone feel it? I didn't.

Bear I've really been enjoying your Wednesday blogs and am sorry they will be over.
Thanks, J/L! :)
Di of course I still love. I love you more now that we now about your lurid past! LOL
If he was living with the current wife and sleeping around then ya that was not to cool and I bet she will let him have it. I have to say I am not surprised tho. I can see why that would bother you but I have to say as long as he is not someone who pushes a family values agenda while sleeping around then it is between him and the wife for me.
I guess I did not get what you were saying in the previous post as I had not heard that they had lived together that long.
(((Hugs)))
I am so sad this will be our last Wednesday with erect George. :(
Tina..Loved the blog! I could just picture the "newbie" parents and their confusion
