If there is a category and award for DORK of the DAY, I would like to nominate myself!
Picture this...Sicily 1935...Ooops, sorry I was having a Golden Girls moment.
I drive a silver Accord. It seems to be a pretty popular model around here. It is a 2001 sedan. Nothing fancy, but in pretty good shape. Especially the front end which was replaced last year after that old hussy T-Boned me.
So, tonight I go to the gas station to buy a pop and smokes. I was the second car on the right. The car to my left was parked in front of the Red Box, where there was a couple getting movies.
When I came out, I walked up to "my" car and noticed a nasty rusty scratch on the left front side. I walked up to it and felt it, rubbed it and proceeded to cuss out the body shop that had done the repairs. What did they use that made my car start to rust out? There was nothing that I hit and it just seemed odd. I then proceeded to open the driver's door and wondered, out loud, why "my" door wasn't locked. At that point, I'm sure you can guess what comes next.
As I am about to get into the car, the woman getting the movies hurries over and informs me that that is HER car! Yep. Of course I could only say..."yes, it is and that is my car", pointing to my car. I was sooooo embarrassed! Then the guy says he was just glad I didn't take his pizza!! I apologized and got into MY car (and the door was indeed locked) and listened the laughter resonating from my cars twin!
At least they laughed!! And after the red drained from my face, so did I!!
If I do indeed win the DotD Award, following is my acceptance speech!
I would like to thank my miniscule bladder for not allowing me to sleep thru the night, leaving me so tired I can't recognize my car!
I would like to thank my boss for letting me work overtime every night since last week that has left me so tired I can't recognize my car!
And I would like to thank all my friends and family that recognize my eccentricities (or insert the word dork-osity) and accept and love me because of, or in spite, of them!!
I sure hope I am in the right house and using my lap top!!!

Well now I have to say that little story made me chuckle! That has never happened to me when I owned a car, but I have had to look twice before getting into what I thought was a friends car.
I do remember some shopping trips to the city with mum where I spent a lot of time sitting in my car waiting for her (it was easier than running all over the malls looking for her) and I would see dozens of people try to get into what they must of thought was their vehicle. It was very entertaining. One elder lady tried three different cars (none looked the same) before getting into one. I never found out if it was the one she was suppose to be in cause mum came out and we left.
Good Morning Shirley - Congrats on being first again. Hope you are having a good day. It is after lunch in the Atlantic Time Zone and I am just getting started here in the Pacific North West.
Maureen - I loved your blog. Thanks for sharing. I have done so many dorky things I think I could write a book.
My front door has two locks, one of which is just pushing in a button on the door knob. I don't know how many times I have stepped outside closing the door behind me and of course locking myself out of the house. I put in a lock box so that I can let myself in if that happens. If I use the lock box key I open the door and go directly to the lock box and put it back. I thought that solved my problem. Well the other day I stepped outside for the mail locking the door behind me. I was so happy I had the lock box. Well I opened the door walked in, laid down the keys thought of something else I needed outside, walked out shutting the door behind me. There I was in my housecoat, no key, no phone. Let's just say I think I am in the running for being the biggest Dork.
Another busy day. See you later. Have fun owls.
Mo~ that was hilarious~ In my family, everyone walks faster than me, so when we are at the mall, or out to dinner and walking back to the card, if I notice they are walking to the wrong car....I let them....and wait to see how long it takes before they notice~ It makes me laugh inside....of course, I'VE never done a think like that~ :)~
Good Moaning (barely) Shirley and Tinka~
Shirley Good morning and congrats on being the prettiest today. I sometimes see someone zig-zagging across a parking lot with their shopping cart and it's obvious that they forgot where they parked their car. I find it hilarious but feel bad for them too as I've "lost" my car on more than one occasion.
MO That happened to my brother and I a few years ago. I was visiting him and my mom and when the three of us would go out we would always use my mom's maroon colored car. Well, this day it was just my brother and I and we had just rented a movie then returned to the maroon car which was parked nearby at the curb. We got in, looked around, and quickly realized we were sitting in someone else's car, not Mom's. We never moved so fast as when we jumped out of that car! Not only was it not the right maroon car but we hadn't even taken Mom's car that day. We had come in my brother's white truck! LOL
Thanks for the blog. So funny!
Tinka I haven't locked myself out in years but I remember it happening when I went out to the attached garage and I was wearing baby doll pajamas. My kids were only about 1 1/2 and 3 years old. Every time I yelled through the locked door for my 3 yr old son to open it, he would say "No!" LOL I finally had to go out front and dash across the front of the house and come in the front door.
Tina Somehow I just can't imagine you lagging behind unless, of course, it's just to watch your loved ones screw up so you can laugh at them. LOL
SHIRLEY, TINKA, TINA and JUST LIN...thanks for the comments!
TINKA...I was once locked out of my car. Called a locksmith...then bothered to look in my pocket...keys!!!
SHIRLEY...I can see you sitting there and laughing at people!
TINA...you must make really big cards if you and your family have to walk back to them :)~
JUST LIN...I don't even have a key to my front door! I'd be in big trouble!
DIANNE...if you should look in...I made it to the library today and I tapped my toes and me feet! I love those flash mob things!
Happy Monday Owls.
Mo, many times I have walked around a parking lot pushing my alarm button on my key, listening for my car horn so I can find my car. That is the reason I always decline help with my gross-ries. You're lucky you were not in SoCal. You may have been shot instead of laughed at.
Shirley, you are lovely in first today.
Waving a wing to Tinka, Tina, J/L, and all the Owls.
I hope everyone is having a good day. I am sending this from my phone cause my computer crashed and my son, the geek, just left. :(.
SAC BARB...trust me, that thought crossed my mind!
Sorry your computer crashed :(
Hi Guys!!
MO: Heehee..sorry..had to laugh! But I'm laughing WITH you..promise! :D I can't even tell you how many times I've headed for what I thought was our car..only to have Randy hit the remote start and see our headlights flash waaaay over there..I mean..we've only had this car 4 yrs..why would I recognize it..sheesh!!
SHIRLEY: Congrats on a perfect Splat today!
TINKA: I once locked myself out at 4am..I was the only one home and didn't have a cell..I had to wait outside until my neighbors got up so I could call my sister!
TINA: I bet you would say I outdork everyone..LOL!
J/LIN: Randy and I were out shopping today and saw so many people who thought they parked in the Bambi lot..but were really parked in the Peter Pan section..you can always tell because they just spin in circles.. ;D
BARB: That's what Randy does..click click click..HONK..but he acts like he knew where the car was the whole time!! :D
My sister and I baked about a million cookies yesterday..lol..no..not that many..it just seemed like that many! We made Red Velvet, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Mocha Butterscotch Chip, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal, Spritz and Russian Tea cookies..we had to opt out of the Jam Thumbprints because we left them until last and then found out the dough had to be refrigerated for an hour..we were too pooped by then to wait that long to make them. I think we made 4 doz of each kind. It was so much fun..but my knee felt every one of it's 52 years by the end of the day..for reals..
J/LIN: I just re-read my comment to you..it's ok..I'm confused too.. :D
Very funny, mo. I came out of a store the wrong side and could have sworn someone stole my car.
Thanks for the comments yesterday. Glad u enjoyed it
We r having snow tonight and cold too. My granddaughters r here wrapping for me. We did some shopping too. They had so much fun buying presents for their mom and dad.
Hope u r all having a good night
Zona Today, I did see someone literally spinning around in circles in the parking lot of the grocery store. He was balancing a cake on the palm of one hand and holding a cardboard tray with two cups of coffee in the other. No idea where he had parked. LOL
MO Get a key made for ther front door. Pronto!
Dianne I came out of a store at a mall once and my car really had been stolen. Fortunately, they just moved it to the far side of the lot and were unable to get the tape deck out. They did steal all the tapes I had in there and some beach blankets and a couple of other insignificant items. The most annoying thing was that the mall security people thought I just didn't remember where I parked my car.
SacBarb That sucks that your computer crashed. It seems you've had recurring problems with it. That must be disheartening.
