~ 36 Hour Daytona 500 ~

by Tina~in_ut

The Daytona 500 was supposed to start at 12n on Sunday. For the first time in history, it was canceled due to rain and rescheduled for 12n on Monday. Then it was delayed until 5pm due to rain again. Thankfully, it began, but top contenders crashed out of the race on lap 2! You watch these races long enough, and you think you've seen everything. NOT! The race was red flagged (stopped) for 2 hours because Juan Pablo Montoya crashed into a safety truck during a caution and the jet fuel ignited causing damage to the racetrack. Luckily, both Juan and the driver of the truck were able to walk away and NASCAR was able to fix the track. After 2 more big crashes, Matt Kenseth walked away with his second Daytona 500 win.....on Tuesday morning......at about 1am!!!~

Good Morning Tina - We are alone in the nest. It is kinda spooky isn't it?

I don't know anything about Daytona 500 so I will have to leave comments to other owls. I am amazed however that anyone walked away from that crash.

It's Tuesday so it is "getting ready for the cleaning lady day". But first breakfast. See you all later.

TINA: That was a really scary crash..thank goodness they were both ok. I thought they would have to cancel the race again..but they finished it! They're racing here this weekend. The weather is supposed to be beautiful..should be fun to watch!

Good Morning TINKA! I hope you have some sun peeking thru today..I sure sent you a lot of it..I hope it gets there! :D

My wonderful neighbor just brought us some stuffed cabbage for dinner tonight! I haven't had that in years! True home cooking..just what the doctor ordered!

I hope everyone has a good day!

Tina Good morning, Tina. I see you raced into first today. Thankfully, you didn't hit anything explosive on the way in. I do not watch the races but did see the crash when they showed it on the news. Yikes! That would be a long 2 hrs in the viewing stands waiting for them to fix the track. A long day all the way around, I suppose, for everyone. Danica is sure having her share of troubles lately.

Tinka I'm glad your cleaning lady has turned out to be a good fit for you. I remember your concern at having to replace your last one. If she gets done early, can you send her down here? Thanks.

Zona I'm sorry to hear you have bronchitis. I sure hope that is getting better each day. My son is still trying to get over whatever he had recently that caused him to have a 102 temp for a couple of days. He has bad asthma and has ended up with pneumonia before. Take care of yourself! Ooooh, stuffed cabbage! I love those and haven't had it in years, either.

I'm not liking this new format. Everything is squished over to the left-hand side of my screen.

This blog is not letting me comment. Hello from Texas--so far so good now I will have to see if it posts.

I love the weather here except the arrival day it was very humid. My family thinks its cool out--63. I think it's great as more snow coming to DENVER

MICHAEL, I still can't find u my little chick-a-dee!!!

Yea, it posted. On my phone the writing is very tiny.

I'm going to a Bunco party tonight. I have no idea how to play but my cuz wants me to go--- so I don't want to be a bad guest. Went to the movie yesterday to see This Means War with Reece Witherspoon. It was a cute movie.

Wedding was a success and fun.

Lynn, all rested from the beach? It sounded great. We r going to the water in Galveston on Thursday until Monday. It should be fun.

Zona-- hope u r feeling a little better with all those drugs. Are they making u starving yet?

Tina-- did u want that guy to win the race? I didn't know who to cheer for so I couldn't watch. Wow-- late race

Dianne/Denver said...

JL-- glad u got ur water problems solved. I really hate water issues.

Tink-- not celebrating any parties this week? Won't be long until St Pats Day. My cousins that just got married r going to Ireland for that day an their Honeymoon over Speing break.

I guess I need to get dressed now and be sociable!!

Just woke from my nap so I will wait until the coke kicks in before I comment. My head is a little fuzzy. Maybe that isn't anything new.

Dianne/Denver said...

Shake ur head awake , Tink. I slept so late that there is no nap for me today.

Tinka said...

Dianne - It took until now for me to feel normal. I think I slept too soundly. I am happy you are having fun. Keep looking and I am sure you will find Michael.
I can't find him on the blog today. He may be hibernating.

Zona - I love cabbage rolls. I just asked Jack if he would make them sometime and he said yes. We haven't had them for years. His mom was really good at making them.

Tinka said...

Just_Lin - I sent my cleaning lady to you on our private jet. Has she arrived yet? She promised to do a good job. Let me know how she does.

The wind is really blowing hard here. I have the Elvis blanket Zona gave me wrapped around me. Jack is making dinner. It smells good. Teddy is sleeping on my blanket and Tango and Tia are underneath it. The fires aren't on because it is best not to light them when the wind is so high. The oil furnace is getting a good work out. Jack says I have about 5 minutes to feed the "fur babies" before it's time for our dinner. See you later. Enough of this rambling.

In December 1947, Bill France Sr. gathered a group of racing enthusiasts in the rooftop lounge, now the “Penthouse Club”..in the Streamline Hotel. It remains the city’s best perch, with crashing waves just a block to the east and the lights of the famed Daytona International Speedway, France’s ultimate legacy, glowing six miles to the west.

Its a gay bar now...

Where else could you purchase a Kurt Busch vintage die-cast car for $44.95 while listening to a husky drag queen belt out Shania Twain’s “Man, I feel like a woman?”

“Showtime … (at the) NASCAR bar,” the Streamline’s promotional flyer proudly read. “Where the men are men (and so are some of the women.)”

J/LIN: Thank you..I am feeling a bit better..still coughing..but I think the meds are working. They should..the dosage is big enough..sheesh! :)

I'm sorry to hear your son isn't feeling well. It's especially scary when you get a cold and have asthma too. I sure hope he can find out what's wrong and that he feels better soon. :)

DI: They made me starving for cabbage rolls..that's for sure! Truthfully..I think one pill cancels out the other..lol..

It sounds like you are having a great time in Texas..yay! :)

TINKA: Your evening..even with the wind..sounds like a little piece of heaven to me. To be cozy and warm with your hubby and your pets..a nice dinner on the table..who could ask for anything more? :)

MICHAEL: Aaack Kurt Busch..I wouldn't pay a penny for anything of his..but I think I might like the show! :D

J/LIN and TINKA: The cabbage rolls were really good..my mom made them with sauerkraut..my neighbor didn't..I like them better my mom's way..but dang these were good..and I'm so grateful to her for bringing them over..there's even enough for tomorrow..yummm.. :D

Tinka said...

Zona - I have already had a good dinner but I could still find room for cabbage rolls. Would you Fed X me some please. Jack likes them too. Hint, hint.

Just_Lin said...

Zona I like cabbage rolls cooked in a tomato based sauce.

Just_Lin said...

Tinka I'm afraid your cleaning lady never showed up. It is getting windy out there now. Maybe the weather prevented her from being able to get here. Ya think?

Just_Lin said...

Michael I've been to a place like that but not with a NASCAR theme.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne It sounds like you're having a fun visit. Yay!

Tinka said...

Just_Lin - I will try again next Tuesday. OK?

Zona said...

J/LIN: These were cooked in a tomato based sauce..my mom made the same sauce..but she would place the cabbage rolls on a bed of sauerkraut and cook it all together..then she'd make homemade mashed potatoes..omg..soooo good..

TINKA: Fed X? *chomp chomp* oooops... :D

Zona - They just arrived and really made a great midnight snack. Thanks for thinking of me. Love, Mom
