That is the intro to one of my favorite songs from Disney and I still get goose bumps every time I hear it. Today is Walt Disney's 108th birthday and I wanted to take a moment to remember his great accomplishments. I have always been in love with his movies and his theme parks. I also admire him for not giving up and not letting his dreams die. If you have time google his biography on wikipedia. He started off with nothing and worked hard all his life to succeed. During his life journey he had many set backs, but he still kept trying. I can't imagine what the world would be like with out all the great entertainment that he has provided for everyone. He was truly a genius.
My all time favorite movie has always been Snow White. It was interesting to read the history of that movie. It was his first full length movie film and he went bankrupt trying to make it. Hollywood joked about it and called it "Disney's Folly". He begged at banks to get more money to finish the film. He finally did and it became an instant success. I watched it with my mom at the theater and now my daughter watches it with me.
I just want to say "Happy Birthday " to Walt and thank him for enriching my life.

No way two days in a row??? Is everyone ok?
Morning Glories!
Iteach I have read Walt's biography and he was a very determined person. He had a vision and did not let anything stop him. He was a perfectionist. I think this is true of many people who are creative and forward thinking.
I do think Snow White is my favorite too. Tho Bambi is a close second.
He showed that even an animation film could evoke all emotions and keep an audience enthralled.
I do wonder how he would feel about the direction that Disney has taken today. I wonder if he would like it or if he would be dismayed by how things are run?
Hope everyone has a great day. I am contemplating going out and getting all of my xmas shopping done in one blitz spree today. Trying to figure out if I have the energy. LOL
Good morning Lynn! Good luck with the shopping!
I'm trying to get my house ready for Miss Jodi! I'm hoping she likes the well seasoned look.:)
Good Morning Hooters!
Congrats on 1st Lynn and hello and great blog iteach.
I don't think you are ever too old for Disney. I lived for Sunday nights when the "Wonderful world of Disney" was on when we were kids.
Went to Disneyland 11 years ago for the 1st time- it was the best time ever. You become a kid again!
JENNIFER...very sweet blog. Like GOLDIE, I always loved the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. I don't know what my favorite movie is. The newer movies, even though they are for kids are so full of innuendo that is really more aimed at the adults that are watching.
Have a blast with JODI!!
LYNN...grats on 1st again!! I hope you can get all your shopping done and then you can relax the rest of the season.
GOLDIE...I loved going to Disneyland! I really liked it better then Disneyworld. Maybe because it is the original. It is a shame that now a days it costs so much to spend a day there.
Good morning Goldie, LynnD and Jennifer!
I was unaware of Walt Disney's birthday and I am grateful to you, Jennifer, for bringing it to my attention. He did leave behind a legacy.
Happy Saturday, everyone!
Sorry, Mo. I didn't see you there! Good morning to you.
The last time I was at Disney Land, I was invited to not come back. Another place I am not welcome, simply due to guilt by association.
We have a local chef that is a "celebrity" chef. His name is Michael Symon and is one of the Iron Chefs on the Food Network. Anyhow, he just opened a burger joint and my cousin asked me to go for lunch there today. It is an ecclectic burger menu and they have an apple pie and bacon milkshake!! Check out his menu...bspotburgers.com and take a peek. I will give ya a review later tonight!!
CHI CHI...what did your associates do that got you banned???!!! Do you think they really would know if you went back again?
Mo, they brought their own beer into the park. I don't think anyone would know, but I've heard of a list, so I will respect the request.
Good Morning!
JENNIFER: I love Disney movies! Cinderella is my favorite..I love the singing mice and 'Bibbity Bobbity Boo' then again..I also think Jungle Book is terrific.. Baloo and 'Bare Necessities'..what about Peter Pan and 'You Can Fly'..or Mary Poppins 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'? I don't think I can choose a fave..I love them all! I bet you can tell I especially like the music! Walt Disney knew that the songs were just as important in carrying the story as the animation itself..there's just nothing like a Disney movie to make me smile and help me feel better about everything.
Great Blog today JENNIFER..thank you!
LYNN: Congrats on FIRST! I can't watch Bambi..or Ol' Yeller. I know they're just stories..but I end up crying like a baby.
JENNIFER: Have fun with JODI today! Well..I guess that was a silly thing to write..of course you will!
GOLDIE: I had so much fun the last time I went to Disneyland..eventhough my knees are shot..I was just so excited to be there I ran around like a kid..never noticed the pain..I even had my picture taken with Chip and Dale again!
MO: Have you seen any of the movies after they were released on video? The animators snuck some really raunchy stuff into the backgrounds..I have a Peter Pan video that...oh my!
BONACHI: Couldn't you talk to the park executives and explain that you didn't do what the people you were with did? I can't imagine being banned from Disneyland..what a bummer..especially living in Ca.
Area 51
CAROL: Nikki is doing great! She's still sleeping a lot..but I'm beginning to think that's just a dog thing. Thanks for your concern!
Oh..and I got the electric bill..I'll just say.. :)...:D
DIANNE: Did you find the snow? I love it! ;)
JENNIFER: You're blog really started my day off with a smile..I'll be humming Disney songs all day long..
BEAR: Shush.. ;)...:D
We are going to try and get some shopping done today..I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!
HEIGH HO!! :D
LynnD Congrats on first!
Jennifer What a nice blog! Yes, watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights was a must! Walt Disney was a true creative and marketing genius. I haven't been to Disneyland in years but my son takes his kids there. In high school, we had our senior all-nighter at Disneyland. What a blast that was!
Zona LMAO @ shushing Bear!
Zona While you and Mr. Z are out shopping, don't forget to get all those Xmas trees for us. Bear offered to help, too, but may be too hung over.
Zona: I will NOT be IGNORED! LOL!
Jennifer: Your blog today reminds me of my Mom! She loves Disney too, and Snow White was her favorite movie when she was a little girl. She loves animals, too, and we always used to watch "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights in front of the TV!
Good afternoon Lynn D and congrats on 1st!
Good afternoon Jennifer, Goldie, Maureen, Bonachichi, Zona, Just Lin and Whabbear.
Good blog Jennifer! I can't think of anyone who doesn't like SOMETHING that Walt Disney has done. I too enjoyed watch "The Wonderful World Of Disney" on Sunday evening.
Zona have you and the Mr. cut the Xmas trees yet? Lynn, SacBarb and Just Lin have volunteered to decorate them all. Oh, while you are in the woods can you get some holly berries too? Jennifer, Mary and Goldie are making wreaths.
Thanks! You're a peach!! I'd hug you but I don't want you to get my cold.
Happy Saturday Owls.
Jennifer, I love all the Disney animated movies. As soon as I heard that my DIL was preggers I started buying Disney movies. I said it was for the grandson, but my Hubby said he knew it was for me. :)
I grew up in L.A. and went to Disneyland during the first week they were opened. When I got into high school they had date night on Fridays and it was a favorite place of mine and my friends. It didn't cost an arm and a leg then. They had tickets for the rides and we could get what we could afford. The "E" tickets were for the best rides. When it got dark we would line up on Main Street to wait for the light parade and the fireworks. It was very romantic.
Then my parents moved to Santa Maria in my senior year and I met my Hubby. One of our best dates was going to Disneyland. And we went several times after we were married, with and without the kids.
Thanks for bringing back all those precious memories Jennifer. I'm a little verklempt right now. :)
Jennifer and Jodi, How exciting that you are getting together today. Have a great time today.
Lynn, there you are at #1 again today. Congrats to you.
Mo, I checked out the menu. Did you have the Jersey Burger in honor of our fave Jersey girl and your love of pork?
Waving a wing to all the other Owls. Have a great day everyone.
Shirley, I see you are not too sick to delegate the decorating. I hope Zona and the Mr. have a BIG truck to transport all those trees. I have a new music box that plays Christmas carols that I will lend to the Manor.
Jennifer~ I loved the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night~ My favorite movie is Sleeping Beauty....for obvious reasons~ :D I also loved Song of the South~ Not a fan of Bambi or Jungle Book...those two drive me nuts~ oh....and Fantasia~ ugh~ The new ones are hilarious, but just not the same~ Hubby had a friend that worked on the new movies and you have to have a certain kind of sense of humor to do this stuff....ya have to be so silly~
Congrats on first Lynn~ I don't work again until Tuesday...so enjoy~ :)~
25~
MO Apple pie and bacon milkshake just seems so wrong on so many levels!
Walt Disney was certainly a genius. There are few people such as Disney that I was enchanted by....but I was surprised and saddened when I ran across this very small article in the L.A. Times recently......
With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it's worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went unnoticed last week.
Every child in America, and almost every adult, knows the Hokey Pokey. You just put your right foot in and put your right foot out to perform one of the best-known circle dances in American history.
Its popularity belies its age, and conceals its author. The man who wrote the song, Larry LaPrise, died last week at 83 in Boise, Idaho.
He wrote the tune for the Sun Valley, Idaho, ski crowd in the late 1940s, but it took a recording by big band leader Ray Anthony to make the Hokey Pokey a nationwide phenomenon. (It appeared on the B side of the "Bunny Hop" single.)
LaPrise didn't receive royalties for the song until the 1960s, when its rights were purchased by country star Roy Acuff's publishing company.
In recent years, LaPrise worked in the post office in Ketchum, Idaho. Children often wrote him notes addressed to "The Hokey Pokey Man."
The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And that’s when the trouble started.
DEE DEE...OMG!! that was hilarious! I don't know if any of it was real, but who cares...the end cracked me up.
RESTAURANT REVIEW...I debated between the Pulled Pork and the Symon Says and ended up with the Symon Says...burger, fried bologna, cole slaw, cheese and sauce. It was hambugasmic! We split and order of the fries and yes, the Vanilla Bean Apple Pie Bacon shake. I was scared to try it, but it was AWESOME! It's a vanilla bean shake with chunks of apple pie and crumbled bacon bits. As weird as it sounds, it was really good!! No one flavor overpowered the shake but you tasted everything. I don't think I could have handled a whole one, but 1/2 was just perfect. How someone thinks up such combinations amazes me! The place was packed and we had to wait 45 minutes for a table...worth the wait.
Afternoon Owls!
Well I am home relatively unscathed from my shopping expedition. Got a few things and crossed them off my list.
I was standing in line at the check out and Over the loud speaker I heard....Would the customer who is missing their shoe please come to the customer service counter. Would the customer who is missing their shoe please come to the customer service counter....
Well I never listen to those damn things but I laughed out loud!! The lady in front of me turned around and said what, what? So I had her listen. She got to the cash register and the little clerk seriously asked her if she had both of her shoes? I laughed out loud again.
I got to the register and before she could ask I informed I had all my clothing on! LOL
I wanted to go to the counter and have them announce "Would the man missing one red shoe please come to the customer service counter please?" I wonder if anyone would have gotten that reference?
Deedee you fricking crack me up!
Mo I will take your word on that shake but I gotta tell you unless you are pregnant it just sounds well...kind of gross!
PREGNANT???????? Unless you believe an immaculate conception can happen again!! Sad, isn't it?! LOL!!!
oh yay! I love baby showers...YAY!!! Mo is pregnant!!!~
LynnD~ If you want to meet Bear (pretend you haven't!), just make that red shoe announcement! :)~
I'm going to take a shower.....they encourage that for those going to mass~ :D
Well, now we know how rumors get started. I've just refreshed my screen from this morning and learned from Tina's post that MO IS PREGNANT!
Yip yip yippee! Mo's having a baby! Showers at the Nest. Whoop whoop whoop!
It must be a little known fact... When I was in high school, a long standing tradition had set in at Disney Land, which hosted Grad Night for most all the high schools in the area. Usually it was the guys... they would go to the park during the day, with beer, etc... hidden on their bodies. They'd stash the beer underwater in the Pirates of the Caribbean/Small World rides.
When they returned with their dates that night, a thorough search was performed before entering the park. It was no problem for delinquents. The beer was retrieved and fun had by all. Until security found out. Expulsion and a lifetime ban.
The associates I mentioned wanted to see if, all these years later, it could be done. It can't. And it will still get you expulsion and a ban.
I am sure I could plead my way back in, but I think I've had enough of amusement parks to last quite a few years more. I am supposed to avoid multiple and negative G environments and roller coasters provide lots of both.
JENNIFER - Great blog. I had no idea that it was Walt's b'day!! I have never been to Disneyworld or Disneyland. I think my favorite is Snow White!! And I'm with GOLDIE....we always looked forward to Sunday nights!!!
Got back an hour ago from my awesome lunch with the 2 Jennifers and Lois. My Sam came along and so did Lois's daughter!! It was really fun....great food, friends, and yes, a tall beer!!! Sam and I then went to Jennifer's house, and may I say that little Miss Carolyn just melted my heart!!! Thank you JENNIFER for your hospitality!! And for lunch!!
LynnD LOL @ red shoe reference! Then they could announce, "Has anyone lost a glass slipper?" Then, "Have any of you clowns lost a size 28 shoe?" LOL It could go on and on.
DeeDee LOL @ the obit. That feels wrong somehow.
MO How exciting! A preggers piggy! LOL
HOdi I am so envious that you got to meet those fine ladies today. I do hope you have pics to post on MS so I can see them.
SacBarb Did you ever post bbq pics on MS? I'd love to see them.
SLIN - Sam's staying @ a friend's house tonight, so hopefully tomorrow we can post pics!!!
Gonna call it a night....my ass is still asleep from the drive!! :O)
Goldie how did the painting go?
Mo- I love Disneyland way better then Disneyworld too! Just because of the history of it......:)
Bona- your welcome. :)
Does that mean you can't go to Disney World also?
Zona ditto to everything you said!
Everytime I watch a Disney movie, I totally forget about all my stress and I feel young again. :)
JustLin- What did you do at a DisneyLand overnighter? That sounds fasinating......
SacBarb, that sounds totally romantic!!! :) Which one is your favorite movie?
Tina- I love Sleeping Beauty, because the prince's name is Philip. :)
DeeDee- What a cut story about the hokeypokey man! Now I feel bad for banning that song from my wedding.
I had a wonderful day with Lois Lane, Jennifer, Jodi and the two very entertaining lovable teenagers.
I'm still stuffed!
okay...don't laugh....but I really liked Euro Disney~ We took the kids and made my sister go too (she couldn't believe we were doing that instead of hanging out in Paris!)! We had a ball~
Tina That is funny that you went to Euro Disney, although I guess if you have a lot of time or know you will be able to go to France many times, it would make sense, especially with kids.
Jennifer At the all-nighter, we did what one usually does.....go on all the rides all night long. Disneyland would stay open all night just for high school senior parties. A number of other high schools were represented there on the same night. It was nice because it wasn't nearly as crowded as it normally is during the day.
Jennifer By the way, my senior all-nighter took place in 1965 and the big deal ride to go on was The Matterhorn. We loved it!

Shirley Did you see that? I hope you are feeling better tonight.
I'll be happy to help decorate the trees if someone else will do all the frickin' lights!
TINA...I hope you went to confession today and said at least 69 hail Mary's for starting vicious rumors about me!!!!
WARNING - I'M CRANKY
Just Lin my throat is no longer sore but I only have half my voice and a scratchy irritating cough. I went to the store today for kleenex and OJ, but didn't get and cough medicine. Now I'll have to spend another $8 tomorrow for a taxi to get some. Plus I have more snot in my nose than it can hold!! I know, TMI. Told you I was cranky! I hope I can breath tonight with my mask on, or I will be double cranky tomorrow!!
Aren't you glad you asked?
Shirley honey~ Zicam....wonderful stuff....i've had the same crap all week...and THANK GOD I had Zicam....the runny nose never really took off...cold is gone....just have a little cough~ :D HOpe u feel better soon~
Mo~ Hey...I'm happy for you~
J/L~ I can't remember why, but we didn't have grad night at Disneyland....hmmmmmm....I wonder why~ It's not like it was far~ hmmmmm~
Jennifer, I manage to get my arse tossed from the Happiest Place on Earth and you ask if I want to go back for more? I endure pain and humiliation. I don't enjoy it.
If I want a "ride", I'll buy a scooter, forget to charge it, then ride up a hill in San Fran. The ride will start when the battery dies.
Tina, you probably ditched your Grad Night. ijs....
Just_Lin; I believe it was your buddies who figured out the booze in It's A Small World... By 1983 it was already tradition. YOU BOOZERS!!
Mo, get a good night's rest... you're sleeping for two now.
Bonach I do believe piggies have littlers. Mo will have a bunch of little bacon bits running around. LOL
Tina What year was your senior night? Maybe they've stopped allowing senior nights there.
Bonach You may have a point. The staff may have known all the tricks by the time your class came along.
That should have been "litters" not "littlers" although "littlers" works, too. :)

'83 J/L~ I'm thinking we didn't go cuz they knew about all the alcohol Bonachichi was bringing in and didn't want that bad influence affecting our lives~ ijs~ :)~
These eggs are so damn old, if I did have a littler, or litter, they would be born 30 yrs. old ;)~
Tina, you nozzle! I'd figured out I don't like alcohol by my senior year in high school. So no drinkie-winkie for me! It was you they were looking for. Tina the Lush.
uh....numb nutz~ I STILL don't drink....try again, bish~
Mo~ Those are damn big booties I'll have to crochet~ ijs~
Mo, take care of your little bacon bits. Can we eat 'em after they're born?
CHI CHI...only if you put them in a milkshake!!
SHIRLEY...sorry you are still so sick. Can't one of your sisters get you your cough medicine so you don't have to go out again in the cold and save the cab fare?
Bonach LOL @ eating the little bacon bits.
Tina What did you all do for your senior night? When I was a junior, I went with my boyfriend from Temple City to his senior night. Their's involved taking a train to San Diego and then having a luau. It was pretty cool. On the train, one car had a band playing, another car had snacks and sodas. The luau was great, too, with excellent food. They roasted a whole pig. Sorry, MO.
How can you even remember that far back, J/L?~ I have no idea what we did~ yikes~
Tina I realize it was ancient history but I remember one because it was the first time I ever rode a train. I had kind of forgotten about my own senior night until we started discussing Disneyland and that reminded me of it.
MO: Well I'll be darn, you are going to have a baby? I hope you will still be able to travel to Chicago in May!
JENNIFER: I loved Disney on Sunday night too and I am from the old days of the Mickey Mouse Club and remember it like it was yesterday.
We went to our HOA Christmas dinner tonight. There are older people here that don't like to drive too late so it was at 4PM. They have a grab bag gift exchange and we were still out of there by 6:15 on a Saturday night so we decided to go and see a movie. We went to see Blindside and loved it. I like Sandra Bullock in any movie but I even loved loved loved Tim McGraw in it! Go see it if you have a chance.
SHIRLEY; I ';m sorry you are still feeling bad. I made some cocoa for you and put schnapps in it. I was hoping that would work on your cough.
It's really late as I have been on the farms tonight so off to bed because early Bronco game tomorrow (JODI) at 11AM Denver time. SHIRLEY; Remember how you said you would cheer this week for them? Just hold up a sign since your voice isn't great right now.
