His Hand In Mine

by Tinka

I would like to see my sister's favourite Elvis song on the blog.  It would be played on a small radio station just before midnight every Sunday night.  She would stay awake to hear it.  For some unknown reason I couldn't get that station. She would tell me about it and even though I thought I knew every Elvis song he ever recorded, I had never heard this one. After she died I found out it was on one of my C.D.'s.  It is now my favourite Elvis song.

Good morning ST.TINA!

TINKA...I can't listen to the video, but I will trust your judgement that it is wonderful

Good morning ladies....Loose term! Loose term!!

That song...and Elvis...reminds me of my Aunts and grandmother...and my Mother...and many more of that generation that loved and trusted in Jesus...

Of course I love Elvis too...I was very young but I remember sitting in a light rain with my Mother and sisters in an open air venue to see Elvis. I remember the place clearly....white wooden picket fences everywhere....even our seats were like that. I don't remember Elvis...I just remember wondering why we were sitting in the rain....
while my Father was in the comfort of the car...

Tinka...thats a sweet story about your sister waiting to hear it every Sunday night...

Those old Elvis recordings really take me back to a wonderful time in my life when the world was a different place and I felt so safe surrounded by my family....

I know how much you loved your sister and I know you must be feeling the love and nostalgia that I feel listening to it...

I have wiped more than a few tears from my face discussing this today...but its good for me to shut my mouth and feel something real every now and then...

Thanks for sharing...

TINKA: This is such a pretty song. My mom loved Elvis..especially his Gospel songs. I remember that the only thing she specifically asked for one year for Christmas was a complete set of his gospel recordings on CD. Since she didn't have a CD player..we got her that too..lol..She would listen to these songs all the time, they relaxed and comforted her. When she was in the hospital in a coma we brought them in and put the earphones on her so she could listen to them there. I like to think she heard every note.

I have always liked Elvis..no matter what genre of music he sings..but in much the same way that you think of your sister when you hear this song..I think of my mom when I hear any of his gospel songs. Thanks for sending in this beautiful song today.

Good Morning TINA, MO and MICHAEL. I hope every one of the owls has a great Sunday! :)

Good Morning Tina, Maureen and Michael.

Tinka said...

Tina - Thanks for putting up my video. It means a lot to me. I was so happy when I found it on Utube.

Tinka said...

Maureen - It's wonderful to me. Anyone who does not like Elvis nor religious songs will not enjoy it. I was being very self serving when I sent it to Tina.

Tinka said...

Michael - Your comment has me "tearing up" and I haven't even listened to the song yet. When a sweet story. Thank YOU for sharing.

Tina - I didn't write the whole story about the song because I didn't want any Owls to think I was losing it but maybe they already do so I will finish my story.

The discussion with my sister about this song went on for about two years. It took a long time before she could "catch" the title of it. I was intrigued because as I said before I thought I knew all his songs. The Christmas after Joan died was a sad one for me. When I opened a present from one of the Owls I found it was an Elvis C.D. That song was on it. I was so excited. It sounds silly but I felt it was a gift from Joan too. It made my day.

There now that's the end of my story. I will now drink the glass of orange juice Jack just brought me and listen to my song. Thanks again.

Tinka said...

Good Morning Zona-My-Baby -
You and I must have been writing nostalgic stories at the same time. I knew your mother loved Elvis songs and I think I told you one time about this one and how I think your mom would have loved it. Jack is wondering why I am writing and crying at the same time. Now I know he thinks I have "lost it" too.

I had better leave my memories and get back to normal living. I have 3 hungry little mouths to feed here. Tango, Tia and Teddy are all on the chesterfield with me and they are looking upset because it's 8:30 and they haven't had their breakfast yet.

Have a great Sunday Owls. It's raining here today but a spring rain is a pleasant rain. See you later.

Morning Glories!

Tinka I am so happy that you found this song and it is a comfort for you.

J/L and Dianne from Area 51, I am improving. I think we may have found a medication that works for me. Still early days but I am feeling more present. I still am having some issues but hope to work them out with the therapist. Thank you for asking. One day at a time.

I hope everyone has a good day. We are headed to our other daughters for our grandson Joshua's birthday. See you all later.

Good Morning Lynn - I am so happy you are feeling better.

Happy Birthday Joshua.

I want to share this because its cool but the last paragraph talks about the Voyagers 33 years in space and I didn't know we were still getting info from them....billions of miles away..... and there is info about the upcoming alignment and Dec 2012...lol...and please excuse the talk about ur anus...

Thanks Michael - That is reassuring that the world really won't end on Dec. 21, 2012. It won't because Nasa says it won't and that is good enough for me.

Dianne/Denver said...

TINKA: Beautiful song and story to go with it. I had never heard it before either. Thanks for sharing both with us today.

MICHAEL: Thanks to you also for sharing a family story with us. I think our stories help us know one another just a little bit more.

MICHAEL2: We are going to Spring, Tx, to visit my family. We will stay there a few days and then drive to Galveston to hop on the ship. It is just a short four day cruise to Cozumel and then we will stay in Spring for a few more days. I would have liked a longer cruise but that is all my cousins could get off work for....so that was fine. It will be fun to be all of them (6 of us) on a trip as we always have a great time together. Maybe you could come down to the dock and wave us off!

TINA: Morning little sunshine. Any plans for this afternoon besides a possible nap?

MO: I AM NOT PACKED I have junk laying all over the place and now I just found out Louis made dinner plans for us tonight. I was hoping to not have to primp today and just pack and then watch Survivor tonight. Grrr

Hi, Owls! Happy Sunday to each and very one!

But especially to you, Audrey! I am of course not grateful that Joan died, but I am very grateful that her death put into motion a set of very improbable events that have greatly enriched your life and the life of your family! I know she would be so pleased!

Michael: Indeedy, the Voyagers are still transmitting! They are both getting close the the heliosphere, that point where the Sun's "solar wind" poops out and is replaced by the interstellar medium (and no, that is not a far-out psychic!!). Once they get past it, they will have some very interesting science to still contribute!

Lynn D: Glad to hear!

whabbear said...

And yes, rest assured, the world isn't coming to an end for billions of years. Although, as the Sun continues to burn hydrogen and covert it to helium in the core, the core grows heavier, which makes it contract, which supports a higher rate of fusion. The net result is that the Sun grows steadily brighter over time, and in as little as 750 million years (by some estimates), all the oceans will have evaporated and the Earth's surface will have turned into a scorched cinder like Venus.

But what's a few hundred million years between friends?

Dianne/Denver said...

ZONA: Thanks for sharing your story as well. How is that pool repair going? Is it done? You should be able to jump in that pool soon.

LYNN: I am so glad you are feeling better. That is great news. Have fun at your Birthday party today and Happy Birthday to your grandson. How old is he?

Dianne/Denver said...

Whoops Hi BEAR: Typing at the same time. I just hope that GOD has the same thing in mind as Science does...:) I selfishly, really want to see my grandkids grow up.

whabbear said...

Actually (you've got me on a roll here, Tinka!), the fact that we're within several hundred million years of the Earth ceasing to have the ability to sustain complex life is significant. The "Cambrian Explosion" that led directly to the evolution of complex multi-cellular creatures didn't occur until about 500 million years ago, a good 3 billion years after life first emerged on our planet. So, from a geological (big) perspective, we've come along much closer to the end of life on Earth than to the beginning.

whabbear said...

Hi, Dianne! Yep, no worries there!

Maureen said...

DIANNE...get thee packing!

LYNN...glad you're feeling better. And I hope each coming day is even better the preceeding one. Happy Birthday to Joshua.

TINKA and ZONA...thanks for sharing those very personal memories with us.

WHABBY...thanks for the reassurance!

I think I have been abduted by aliens...I am watching golf and ENJOYING it! Go figure!

the weather her is simply smashing today! Nice and cool....with full sun....

I see the Rev. Mike Huckleberrie won't be running for president...that will take a lot of the grief out of the campaigning....

The republicans sure have a pitiful bunch of contenders...lol

Newt Gingrinch....ha hahahahahaaaa

I think I shall go into the village and see what I can get into....I'm thinking that maybe I'll attempt to make some brownies today....

I really want a pineapple upside down cake....but I didn't have much luck with that cobbler and it was right side up....

Maybe there will be a nice lady that can bake around that aisle at the market that I can ask stuff...

I will report back at around 1700 hours....

whabbear said...

'weenie: LOL at enjoying the golf! I love The Players!

Maureen said...

WHABBY...it is fascinating to watch! G-Mac sure had some problems on the 9th. Now a spectator has had a seizure at the 10th...

Why did I never watch this seriously before?

Tinka said...

I am up from my nap, having a little lunch of Jack's homemade muffins and slices of cheese. Of course I have to have my diet coke. That's my caffeine for the day. Jack should be home from the farm any minute. On Sundays he goes there while I am napping and feeds the baby fish.

speaking of Elvis....lol

"courtesy of Helen Lawson"

Please excuse my absence today. It is a day of mourning for poor Priscilla Presley. It was 4 years ago today that her face got, "caught in a trap.....it couldn't walk out."

Just_Lin said...

Tina Tina Aren't you tired of moaning in the morning? I mean, I'm old, so a certain amount of moaning when I get out of bed is expected. But you? You're still a young chick. What's your excuse. Oh, I know. It must be a Marilyn Monroe, sexy, kind of moan, right?

Tinka said...

Dianne - Thanks for the kind words. Did you notice the video starts out with Pink Tink? I don't know why as it doesn't fit with the rest of the video so I assumed it was just meant for me. (How conceited am I? eh?)

You are going to have a great time. Wouldn't it be nice if all the owls could go on a cruise together? We would take over the ship with our laughter. I don't think that will ever happen but I can dream.

Have you packed yet? It is no longer Friday the 13th. so it is safe. Have fun. Take care.

Just_Lin said...

Tinka Thank you for sending that blog in and thank you for sharing that story about your sister. I am an Elvis fan but not really of the gospel music. With that being said, this song really "spoke" to me today. Thank you for that.

Tinka said...

Dianne - I just skimmed the comments and you haven't packed. Now as your older sister I must say "Get a move on Sis".

Just_Lin said...

Zona I hope you're having a great Sunday, too. Mine has been good. Met some friends for breakfast, stopped at a shop and bought a new top, and in a few minutes I will start packing for my trip.

Just_Lin said...

LynnD I'm so glad you're feeling better. Have fun at the party.

Tinka said...

Whabbear - Thank you as well for your kind words. You have no idea how many times over the past four and a half years that you have said just the right thing to make me feel better. I love you for that.

Thank you for clearing

LYNN: Happy Birthday to Joshua!! I'm so glad you are feeling a little better each day!♥

BEAR: Mr Z set the alarm so he could go out and look at the planetary alignment..then came back in and told me all about it..hmmm..looks like he's getting a telescope for his birthday this year! :I..;)..:D

I for one am not worried at all about 2012..I'm more concerned about getting through May of 2011..lol..

MICHAEL: Did you make that chocolate cake in your avatar? It looks good! LOL@ Newt Gingrich..I agree!

MO: I use to watch golf all the time when Nick Faldo played..yummmy! :)

TINKA: I had 3 diet cokes today..I know bad..bad..bad.. *hanging head in shame*

DIANNE: We think the pool is fixed.. *knock on veneer* ..it's looking good..but I don't want to say for sure yet..Mr Z told me to keep and eye on it..that worries me a little..lol..

Have a wonderful time on your vacation..I'm going to miss you!

Tinka said...

Whabbear - Thank you also for reassuring me and maybe others that the world is not about to end. Some of your sentences I had to read 3 or 4 times before I could understand them: i.e.
The "Cambrian Explosion" that led directly to the evolution of complex multi-cellular creatures didn't occur until about 500 million years ago, a good 3 billion years after life first. but I think I understand it now.

It's amazing that the Voyageurs are still transmitting. Thank you Michael for bring that to our attention.

HI J/LIN!! I'm glad you had a nice day..and I know you're going to have a GREAT time on your trip! :D

Tinka said...

Maureen - LOL @ being abducted by aliens. I hope they don't get you pregnant. If they do I have some pretty names picked out.

Tinka said...

Michael - Are you really going to bake again today? If you do please go back to your "cobbler page" and follow my directions. Don't even go near the microwave. Let us know at 1500 hours what you came up with.

Tinka said...

Zona - Have I told you lately how much I enjoy the furniture for my doll house and all the other treasures of your mom's that you sent to me. I treasure them now.

Tinka said...

Just_Lin - I am so happy the song spoke to you today. I know Elvis and gospel music isn't for everyone so I appreciate your comment.

What kind of tops did you buy for your trip? Are they bikini tops? How about some pictures?

Tinka said...

Zona - I just noticed your comment.

Three diet cokes in a day once in a while won't hurt you but as your mother I am advising you keep it at one a day. I don't know if we can believe the reports on aspartame but I can't take chances with my offspring.

Tinka said...

Zona - A telescope is a perfect idea for Mr. Z's birthday. Then you can enjoy it too. Those are the best kind of presents.

Good news about the pool. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything keeps humming along the way it should.

Maureen said...

DIANNE...I did! A chocolate malted flavor custard with hot fudge and whipped cream. It ws good, but to be honest, the hot fudge at McDonalds is thicker and better!

Just_Lin said...

I want to party, too, but nobody is getting any of my Custard! LOL

whabbear said...

Tinka: You are so welcome! And I'm glad you made the effort to puzzle out that sentence. The Cambrian Explosion is one of the great mysteries in evolutionary science. Why did life chug along at the level of simple single-cell organisms (bacteria) for fully 3 billion years, and then suddenly evolve into complex multi-cellular organisms that occupies all the distinct phyla that we see today? One theory is that life-generated oxygen finally accumulated in the atmosphere to the amount needed to fuel the more complex chemistry that these new organisms required. And it took THAT long to happen!

Zona: A telescope for Randy? Kewl ! And you're not too far from nice dark sky locations in Arizona to take it out to!

'weenie: STILL watching The Players, since we taped it earlier today. Golf rules!

Michael: I think you owe me an erotic story!

Maureen said...

WHABBY...I never realized the science that goes into golf. To know the how to hit the ball with regards to the wind and the slope of the green, how to know which club to use, how to walk that much in one day!!

Tinka said...

Just_Lin - We would never dare touch any of your custard. We would get our hands slapped. Of course you can party too.

Maureen said...

JUST LIN...Custard is all yours!
